Election Today

All the aldermanic runoffs are today.

If you're lucky enough to be inundated with an extra month of campaign literature and endless phone calls, make the effort and vote. And to make it more fun, vote for anyone opposed to an incumbent and/or Rahm. It will provide everyone at least 4 years of amusement.

OT - Aldermanic runoff... WTF?

The FOP Board and COPWATCH are endorsing the same candidate in the 46th Ward runoff?

What's wrong with this picture?

Molly Phelan's grandfather was a cop killed in the line of duty. She, on the other hand, says that ALL OPTIONS are on the table regarding our pension fund. Not good. Now we come to find out that Marc Kaplan, the goof behind COPWATCH, has endorsed her.

Why would FOP endorse her before polling the membership?

4/04/2011 08:07:00 PM

The FOP polled the membership in the mayoral race. The retrn of those ballots was embarassingly low, pitifully so. Even then, by the numbers, Rahm won it. Still the board declared it a dead heat and endorsed Chico.

They have never polled the membership in an aldermanic runoff. the board votes and that is that. The candidates must actively seek the FOP endorsement. If one doesn't they aren't even considered. Don't know who did or didn't in this one.

There have been many disagreements over endorsements in the past. Ask Caparelli.

A predator police patrol?????

Sneed hears the investigation of Chicago police officers stemming from an incident last week involving a 22-year old woman claiming she was sexually assaulted by two cops after being picked up in their squad car — is enlarging.

Sneed is told nearly a half-dozen women have either come forward or are being interviewed about allegations of sexual assault involving two Town Hall police officers — and a third officer, who works with the men on the same over night shift. has also been relieved of his police powers for “misconduct.”

“It looks like the police department may be dealing with police predators and a heavy lid has been placed on leaks to the press on what is becoming a high profile case,” said a Sneed source.

“The police department command staff is taking this case very seriously and more than four women are talking about their experiences with these police officers,” said the source, who also stated sexual assault complaints had been reported against at least two of these men in the past by several women, who reportedly

†All three police officers have been stripped of their police powers and charges against at least two of them may be forthcoming by the end of this week pending the conclusion of a forensic investigation, the source added.

†The probe began last Wednesday when a 22-year-old woman told police she wound up having sex with one of two cops who offered her a ride home in their marked Tahoe SUV. She also told police she played strip poker and had sex with an officer in her Rogers Park apartment because she was afraid to refuse. Police were summoned by a neighbor who spotted the woman running from her apartment screaming.

Sneed is also told one of the police officers may be on a videotape buying booze at a liquor store while en route to drive the alleged victim home.

†The third Town Hall District officer, who has not been implicated in last Wednesday’s sexual assault allegation, works in the same overnight unit with the two cops under criminal investigation for the assault — and was the recipient of a previous complaint by another woman — when he was partnering with one of the officers involved with Wednesday’s incident.

Stay tuned.

Getting ready to go work the polls for Lt. John Garrido. He's going to be a great alderman. I may have to stop making jokes about them after he wins.

John is a stand up guy and I hope that he wins.

Dirty tricks on election day in the 46th Ward?

Apparently ward residents have been receiving calls that one candidate has dropped out of the race and endorsed the Ed Burke/'machine' supported Molly Phelan.

Dirty politics is the companion of desperate candidates.

Chicago! It's a gorgeous day -- make it a gorgeous four years!

I've been out here in the 45th ward since 7:30 this morning, encouraging folks to vote, and I keep hearing
"I don't have time" ... "I voted in February" ... "it won't make a difference"

Turnout for this aldermanic runoff is pretty low so far. There's a lot of cops in our ward. Those of you who have done your homework know what a welcome difference John Garrido will make as our alderman ... and why certain folk want to make sure he doesn't win.

Won't you please put in a little extra time to urge your neighbors, your family and yourselves to vote today -- for John Garrido -- and give us a record turnout that shows how much we care about our ward?

Voting's till 7 --- let's do this!

(thanks)

Go Johnny Garrido!!!!!!
He will make a great alderman,(is that possible; to use great and alderman in the same sentence?

Well, FOP endorsement did not win the election for Chico (or make it very close), did nothing for Phelan, and Spasato and Garrido both lost.

If you don't vote, all you're doing is bitching. All those idiotic puns on "Democrat" from non-voters are . . . irrelevant.

4/05/2011 08:48:00 PM

-------------------------------------

I'm a pretty good number cruncher and looked realistically at the vote total John would need. It isn't there.

In his best precinct, he garnered 71% of the vote. To overtake Arena, he'd need to get 73% of the outstanding votes. Chances are those votes will be from different parts of the ward and more evenly distributed around 50%.

I feel so horrible for him. He worked so hard on this election. It's sad commentary when people look at labels, and attack mailers, rather than the candidate, when deciding who to vote for.
