A predator police patrol?????
Sneed hears the investigation of Chicago police officers stemming from an incident last week involving a 22-year old woman claiming she was sexually assaulted by two cops after being picked up in their squad car — is enlarging.
Sneed is told nearly a half-dozen women have either come forward or are being interviewed about allegations of sexual assault involving two Town Hall police officers — and a third officer, who works with the men on the same over night shift. has also been relieved of his police powers for “misconduct.”
“It looks like the police department may be dealing with police predators and a heavy lid has been placed on leaks to the press on what is becoming a high profile case,” said a Sneed source.
- “The police department command staff is taking this case very seriously and more than four women are talking about their experiences with these police officers,” said the source...

The way to fix this place is to get rid of your exempts or at least 90 percent. It all starts at the top. by doing a jody shuffle with them to different spots did absolutely nothing.
Then work your way down.

These guys just didn't decide to come to work one nite and pick up a woman to have sex with out of the clear blue. They have been honing their skills for a while. They liked to troll Clark St on a regular basis. So you would expect more women to now come forward. This is just the beginning. Our CPD black eye is going to take a while to heal.

Actually, that's not a change, lying on department paperwork is a rule 14 violation and has always had the potential to end your employment.

Retired Sgt says, from 1999 on when I first had to deal with a domestic battery between two cops where victim from home called in "battery in progress" which of course turned in to a 10-1...dozens units respond, victim goes to ER for head wound. Offender calls his clout which was so high up that the field lt FG, and W/c TL, and Street Deputy JP squashed the whole thing. Later JP left as the cr# sat open for five years. Victim recanted, and case closed,...PC became biggest boss, and put a sgt buddy in IAD long enough to cover down this case so it never saw light of day(sure it wasn't the only one) Victim promoted, offender promoted twice, Lt FG promoted twice right out of district, ditto for W/C TL and the by the book Sgt
was bricked, informed there would be no more rank promtions...stayed the "good" sgt for over 20 years, and watched the inept above continue to curry favor in many similar incidents. Got past bitter, sorry to see the dept in the sewer but there is too much corruption in the merit ranks and phony capt ranks and above now to quick fix all the ruin. Like many po and sgts in field know, the real day to day thin blue line against total violence and anarchy is really in patrol districts, all 25 of them....the best and true sworn are at least 95% out in disticts. I hope for these fine officers/sgts/that the new mayor will create real review of upper ranks and clean house alot better than Weis did under Daley. I worked in IAD for a few years in the 90's. It was totally corrupt and influenced by the bosses back then. There were many investigations of commanders on up. The reports would go straight to the Dep. Sup who hand carried them into the Supts. office. OPnly a few people were allowed to see the files ( of course we had our ways). There were many coverups for sexual harrasment, battery, domestic violence, burglary, DUI, theft, illegal wire tapping of department telephones, destroying confidential records and files, etc. Do these things go on now? I can't say. But, I seriously doubt that there has been a complete turn around under Jody in four short years.
There is no blanket CR # stop making shit up they know coppers are immediately going to put a face with these scumbags. What's the point of a CR how come it's never been done before?

We do a really shameful job of posting bad things about people on a daily basis on this blog. If the public hates us or feels we are screwed up we can take a huge chunk of that blame. Posting really fucked up stuff about each other will be our downfall. We have enough to bring us down without adding to it. Back in the mid 90's, my partners stopped for a hand waver ( first mistake ) who said her 10 year old daughter had a fever and wanted a ride to the hospital because the babmulance would not come for them. They told her they were not a cab company, told her to take CTA and drove away. They each took 5 days for not providing a ride.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
I understand it is a totally different situation, just pointing out how stupid this Department was, is and always will be!

The problem with this is that these are the same people that are going to be sitting in that jury box during all your criminal and civil cases. Incidents like this makes us look like untrustworthy goofs.

They deserved a 10 day suspension or even more than 10 days. Their actions were totally and entirely unprofessional and irresponsible, bordering on cruel, not to mention stupid. The bad press potential was immense, like we need more bad press at our own hand.
Your partners should have handled the call as a 7/IDA/X-RAY, not as a 7/DAVID/F-HER. We do not have the luxury to refuse service like Fire Dispatch does all the time. I do not know how Fire Dispatch gets away with it, but they do, time after time, day after day.
And if you are afraid of getting suspended for helping a citizen in need, regardless of how high the fever or the mother's status in life, I would rather take time for helping a citizen than take time for being an asshole.
It is very difficult to make many changes with the working conditions of cpatains. They are exempt members as recognized by our very own pension board and their time as captains count toward the gold braid pension should they go higher in rank. But , they are also unique in the fact they have a CONTRACT which governs their pay and working conditions. How great is that? The only way around this would be to eliminate the rank, which the city can do. If this happens, they do not go back to any previous rank as many would suspect, but they are out of a job if the city so chooses to go that way. The city can allow them to revert to a previous lessor rank if they choose.
We should use the public forum to boost the department and our images not drag what shreds we have left down further in the public eye.

The bad stuff is interesting. Most of the good stuff is not. SCC would have about ten readers if the bad stuff was left out. The public reputation of the CPD can't be fixed by cheer leading on a blog, or trying to present a rosy picture when rosiness is not warranted.
I would bet the average law abiding citizen reading the blog gives you a lot more credit for showing your blemishes than you might think.
No matter what you do, the crooks and other low lifes just won't like cops, and trying to get them to like you is a lost cause. Don't waste the time and effort.
Most law abiding citizens are not real cop friendly either, for several obvious reasons. The big one being the control freak attitude a fair number of cops adopt when dealing with the public at large. That and being the victim of the latest revenue stop. That is pretty much the sum total of the average law abiding person's interaction with LE. You can't really expect to be liked all that much when most interactions are going to be viewed negatively to varying degrees.
The thing is for every ten cops that is a decent human being and treats the law abiding public in an appropriate way, there is some AH that doesn't who blows it for the ten good guys. This is an extension of the "ten attaboys is worth one awshit" rule.
But most of us can get past that. Its not really the cops' fault that the politicians are addicted to spending and revenue stops are part of that mix.
The control freak thing is a little tougher. People just naturally no longer trust authority figures. And mostly it is for good reasons, or at least understandable ones. It is not helpful when officers learn to say "sir" with a look on their face that says "shitball". And it really does not matter much that a lot of the people cops interact with on an everyday basis really are shitballs.
In the end cops are necessary in any society. And a certain personality type is often drawn to LE. It is just the way it is. Most people can adapt to that reality.
I don't think the average cop even realizes how they may appear to the average law abiding citizen. It may be some kind of protective camouflage that is adopted for all I know.
The public in general does not have a high opinion of the CPD. It is ironic to me that a lot of posters here refer to the glory days of the CPD when the CPD was the greatest PD in the country.
Over time people tend to remember the good things they were involved in, and forget the crap. That's just the way humans tend to be mostly.
The CPD never really had that great of a reputation with the public. Not in my 50 years. And it was probably not any better before that.
But in the past I think people accepted those warts as long as things were going along smoothly. When old man Daley ran things, it was no less corrupt than it is now, but it was handled in a more genteel way.
The CPD has always been a bastion of cronyism and corruption, especially at the top, just like every other city department. That has not changed any since the late 1800s. The city has never been known for being clean. Why would a bunch of crooks want to have a clean PD? The answer is they don't, and never did, so it was never important enough to them to make it so. As long as it did not get out of hand, no one really cared.
No doubt the kinds of things that are getting CPD coppers nailed of late (like the most recent incident) have been going on for a long time. It is just a lot harder to cover it up these days. It is just the reality of the way things are now and cops are going to have to adapt to that reality.

The problem with this is that these are the same people that are going to be sitting in that jury box during all your criminal and civil cases. Incidents like this makes us look like untrustworthy goofs.

Yes! Continue the unabated sense of entitlement! The Government will handle all of life's daily problems! Free education/babysitting. Free food. Free rent. Free ride to the hospital. Free ER visit. Free Tylenol. Personal responsibility is a (crack) pipe dream, unless you are the police.

I found it hurtful as my Aunt JoAnn had Downs Snydrome, and I do considerable work for several adult-services programs in my area. He continues to lob the word around and his sole recognition of my being offended, was to say, "I know you don't like this but . . "

Who are the other 023 "people in charge " that are goofs?
Back in the mid 90's, my partners stopped for a hand waver ( first mistake ) who said her 10 year old daughter had a fever and wanted a ride to the hospital because the babmulance would not come for them. They told her they were not a cab company, told her to take CTA and drove away. They each took 5 days for not providing a ride.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
I understand it is a totally different situation, just pointing out how stupid this Department was, is and always will be!

its like when greg brady found the tiki idol in hawaii, he just kept having bad luck. 023 just got a bad tikki idol (KB) and every where it goes it brings bad luck.
Since when did CPD fall under HIPAA? It's common for health care workers to get fired for looking at medical records with no reason. Sounds like someone needs to see whether or not there is a GO that prohibits viewing records.
