Two-Thirds = Failure?

Gun Rights groups garnered unprecedented support for Concealed Carry, but couldn't quite get it over the finish line:
  • Giving gun-control advocates a major win, the House Thursday rejected a bid by Downstate gun-rights advocates to permit Illinoisans to carry concealed weapons.

The measure pushed by Rep. Brandon Phelps (D-Harrisburg) failed by a 65-32 vote, with one voting present. Seventy-one votes were necessary for passage.

A "major victory"? This is one of those cases where the tyranny of the few thwart the will of the majority. 66% of the legislature voted in favor of Illinoisans being able to protect themselves, families, neighbors and loved ones when the police are unable to be there 24 hours a day.

The rhetoric from the left is typically slanted and in most cases, outright distortions and lies:
  • Critics argued that such a program would pump even more guns into crime-infested neighborhoods, pose a serious safety risk to police officers and allow as many as 100,000 people carrying concealed weapons to attend crowded city events such as the annual Taste of Chicago fireworks celebration along Chicago’s lakefront.
Seriously? What a joke. At least it would be 100,000 law abiding citizens who might have an effect on the few hundred animals that have been showing up and wreaking havoc on the lakefront the past few 3rd of July nights - but not last year, because Daley canceled the big show knowing that it was going to be a bloodbath if it went forward.
  • “I too like the John Wayne movies. I like those movies about the Wild West, where everybody is carrying a weapon and everybody is shooting at each other. We don’t live in those days anymore,” said Rep. Monique Davis (D-Chicago), who voted against the bill.
None of which has happened in the other 48 states that have Concealed Carry laws in effect. And the John Wayne movies were just that - movies. Works of fiction. The "wild west" never existed with a shootout every day and twice on Sundays. The fact is that places like Dodge City and the OK Corral were hundreds of times safer than any west or south side neighborhood you can name right now.

That being said, perhaps it's time to do a little recruiting. Here's a link to the Illinois State Rifle Association website. They are in the middle of their Spring Membership drive and are looking to add as many voices as possible to the drive for gun rights for all citizens, not just Daley's and Quinn's bodyguards.

Gov. Pat Quinn confuses me, he's quoted as saying "I don't think we're in the business of trying to increase danger to the people of Illinois. We want to work with our law enforcement and prevent bad things from happening,"

So letting violent criminals out for early release to save Illinois money doesn't put the people of Illinois in more danger?

Stopping the death penalty because Quinn feels 'its the right thing' to do only insures that after the criminal that kills you so you can't identify you after the crime, will not have to worry about the needle, and will be taken care of better inside prison than outside.

Gov. Quinn has withdrawn the state from a federal program that runs immigration checks on fingerprints of everyone arrested by the state and local police.

Although officials had said the program would deport immigrants who were convicted criminals, Mr. Quinn wrote, fewer than 20 percent of immigrants deported under the program had serious convictions.

That will be welcome news to the MS-13 drug mules coming through our porous borders that after posting bond, you're welcome to stick around long enough to open another franchise in an under-served suburb.

Best I can tell with HB-148 being voted down and Quinn saying he would veto concealed carry in Illinois, shows to me, he's got the criminals best interests in mind, not mine. These measures alone show Quinn IS in the business of trying to increase danger to the people of Illinois.

O.T. Obummer is saying he wants to tax drivers based on the amount of mileage they drive every year. Why don't these DemocRATS just get the fuck out of our lives. They keep coming up with intrusive laws like the amount of water in toilets, light bulbs that will spew contamination and require extreme measures to clean up when they break. What's next? a scale in toilet bowls that weighs excrement when someone is shooting a deuce? They will do anything to cater to special interest groups to entice voters to vote for them. Fuck DemocRATS.

The bill did NOT fail, as the media is reporting....per ISRA Executive Director Richard Pearson

"The bill was put on postponed consideration. That means it can be called anytime between now and the second Wednesday in 2013."

Apparently placing the bill into that status before the vote goes on the official record is like the vote never happened.....

There's some political wrangling going on.

The "100,000 armed people" comment came from Marlow Colvin Representative from the 33rd District (South Chicago, East Side, Hegewisch).....who said that he'd be concerned at the Taste fireworks because a potential of 10% of the crowd would be carrying

Also, there were 20 members of the house who did not register a vote before the bill was placed on "postponed consideration"

Again, this bill did NOT fail....it CAN be brought up again until the second Wednesday in 2013.....

Take a good look at me, officers, for I am a hardened felon. I am a middle-aged white male who gets up every day, goes to work, pays taxes, gets zero assistance from the goverment, wears a seatbelt, has medical insurance, drives the speed limit, stops at red lights and stop signs, pays for everything I own and, oh yeah, did I forget to say that I am a hardened felon?

I am because Illinois has made me one ever since I looked down the barrel of a gun twenty-some years ago while I gave up my watch and $37 to someone who was apparently just about to turn his life around - that is, after he shot me. For my trouble, I got pain, a lot of pain, time off work and a really cool scar. The offender got three years off the street. Three years.

I am a hardened felon, officers, so when you see this non-descript, middle-aged, white, Irish-American guy walking his dog, driving to the drugstore, playing golf or going to work, be advised that somewhere on my person there is at least a .380 and sometimes a .45, depending on the weather.

Heard today that FOP is supporting a bill that was in Springfield on the house floor for the use of Medical Marijuana. If that's the case why? FOP says they won't use resources to make a comment on any Conceal Carry Legislation yet they come out and support Medical Marijuana. The majority of the FOP membership, seems to be in favor of Conceal Carry and FOP say's they don't want to use resources to support the bill yet they support Medical Marijuana? How can this be FOP? You use resources to Support Medical Marijuana but not Conceal Carry. FOP needs to be accountable to the Membership of what they are doing in Springfield.

CPD does not need to hire 1,000 police officers , assign et's and crime lab to district or detective division , assign all clerical gun toting officers back to patrol .
Everyone hired to do police work and many are now doing office work.
Hire civilians in erps , crime lab , let cta hire own police dept.
check activity of mass transit , they have alot of free time doing nothing , crime lab sits in office waiting for someone to get shot , make the investigate crimes during down time , assign crime lab to det div , 1 less commander , less sgts necessary , close a district like 13 and 21 , no lock ups and very low crime rate , this will free up over 60 supervisors , desk officers and less building maintenance , good luck Boss , let's hope you and Rahm did click and he allows you to clean up waste in the CPD

It's interesting to read how concealed-carry opponents and the mainstream media have portrayed the police, particularly the CPD, in regards to this legislation...

"Opponents say, police officers who encounter armed men would have to determine whether their guns were legal; and the officers could be killed while waiting for the answer." -WGN website, May 6

"Democratic Rep. Edward Acevedo, a veteran Chicago police officer, said the legislation would have made police work more dangerous. Officers currently know that a thug on the street with a gun is breaking the law, he said, but the bill would require police to first figure out who has a permit and who doesn't. 'That delay will make a big difference and that difference could be fatal to that officer,' Acevedo said." -Tribune website article, May 5

"Although Chicago police brass opposed the proposal, downstate police largely supported it." -Bloomington Pantagraph website article, May 5

Politicians like Daley, and there are many of them in Illinois, have armed body guards driving them around all day doing their business and errands. If I had that kind of protection for my family I would also be in favor of some type of gun control. But like most folks we don't have that luxury. Daley will have his body guards and gofers for him and his wife until they take their last breath. And we are paying for this with our taxes. Not enough cops on the street...so what. A good citizen and you can't Carry and Conceal a weapon for your protection...so what!
