Quinn Wants More Victims

  • Gov. Pat Quinn sought to stall a push to allow concealed carry in Illinois, saying Tuesday that he would veto any measure lawmakers sent him that would allow citizens to walk around with loaded guns in public.

"I don't think we're in the business of trying to increase danger to the people of Illinois. We want to work with our law enforcement and prevent bad things from happening," the governor said at a morning news conference.
What is it about Illinois democrats that makes them believe something that is legal in 48 other states (soon to be 49) won't work here in Illinois? What makes Illinoisans so incompetent that they cannot safely handle a firearm like so many millions of other Americans do every single day?

And how is an armed populace "increas[ing] danger" to anyone except the criminals already out there preying on people?

The bill passed out of committee 12-1, so it looks as if the representatives have a better handle on the people's feelings than Quinn does. And the support of so many law enforcement organizations across Illinois bodes well for initial passage. Quinn may win a temporary stay of battle, but he's handing gun rights people an easy campaign issue in a few years.

Then why does the political apparatus continue to look the other way when it comes to illegal immigrant drug cartels -- they ignore the illegal immigration laws that endanger the law abiding citizens and they grant the criminals sanctuary.impunity?

Create one crisis after another -- then spin the problem of violence to guns so you can run an agenda that leaves the middle class dependent on an understaffed and overwhelmed police force

Political propaganda and lies. So sick of it.

" An e-mail message from the Illinois State Rifle Association…

We have good news and bad news regarding HB148, the 2011 Concealed Carry Bill.

The good news is that this year’s concealed carry bill enjoys broad bi-partisan support from around the state. The reason for this success is that the bill has been carefully crafted to address some legislators’ concerns about public safety while, at the same time, ensuring that the provisions of the bill will allow for citizens to protect themselves and their families from dangerous criminals. This bill has been so fine-tuned that there is absolutely no practical reason for anyone to oppose HB148.

The bad news is that the Chicago Gun Grabbing Machine has switched into overdrive in its efforts to kill off H148 so that you and your family remain defenseless against muggers, murderers, robbers and rapists. The gun control movement is using threats, intimidation and outright lies in its attempt to coerce members of the House of Representatives to vote against HB148.

I’ve asked for details about the alleged “threats, intimidation and outright lies” by opponents, but I’m still awaiting a response.

And, thanks for bringing to light the heinous plan to replace 'our' guys with so-called 'community-based ministry'.

It wouldn't have been a 'hit' they would have taken; it would have been a mutiny. I don't need the likes of a self-pfromoting, pfretend pfriest beside me during a shooting, or after the murder of my partner. Appalling.

Best wishes on your pending retirement. I thank God you were here during most of my career. You were the 'other' partner, who was always there, in the darkest times and the most unlikely places. You have always had my utmost respect and gratitude for the work YOU do. Thank YOU.

OK, so repealing the death penalty, and releasing repeat felons from prison doesn't increase the danger to the people of Illinois?

Living and working in a number of states with concealed carry, I've felt safer walking down the street in Mesa Arizona knowing there may be someone CCW'ing than I ever feel walking in Chicago.

Gov Quinn needs to take a walk down Michigan Ave or the Red Line without his security detail and see how long it takes before he either changes his mind, or we're calling for Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon.

This is the typical response from liberals and bleeding hearts. What they should not be in the business of is denying the Constitutional rights of American citizens, no matter where they live. Bad things happen in an instant and nobody has a cop in their back pocket to whip out in response. I agree with poster Shawn.
Quinn is shortening prison sentences of convicted felons and
releasing them back into society
and threatening to block legislation that will give citizens
a right to carry a firearm to protect themselves when these felons go back to their former ways
and confront the citizen in a criminal way. And you can rest assured that said felon will have a
gun. So why not give citizens an equal chance pack a gun and protect
themselves and perhaps save their
own life or someone elses life from
these hoodlums because they are still violent and have no regard for their own lives or anyone elses. Governor Quinn is clueless as to what is transpiring in Chicago or the entire state and trying to be "Mr. In-Between" is'nt
going to cut it. He needs to grow a
pair and protect the interests of the voters, after all, they are the ones paying his salary, and his room and board.

The State of Illinois, County of Cook & City of Chicago are & will continue to be a complete mess & totally corrupt.

I cannot understand how/why they do not welcome the House Bill authorizing retired officers to carry their weapons concealed. This provides thousands of extra security across the country which would not otherwise be there.

I have retired & now live in Colorado. I jest went & qualified at the Larimer County Sheriffs gun range & was treated like a member of their family. They could not have been any nicer. Myself, an officer retired from Hawaii & another from Minnesota all qualified & can continue to carry our weapons as we wish across the country.

From my understanding CPD retired officers must drive to Will County or other counties in order to be able to carry their weapons.

I guess we all expected this from them.

State Rep John Cavaletto Wonders If Daughter In Law Would Still Be Alive If Concealed Carry Law Had Been In Effect
5/3/11 @ 8:15:31 pm

State Representative John Cavaletto is questioning if the murder of his daughter-in-law Michele Cavaletto along a rural Walnut Hill Road could have been prevented if legislation had been in place allowing people to carry concealed firearms in public. Cavaletto made the remarks during debate in the House Agriculture and Conservation Committee. The comments came the same day that Governor Pat Quinn said he would veto any conceal carry bill that reached his desk.

With Cavaletto's vote, the committee eventually sent the bill to the full house on a 12 to 1 vote. "I had a daughter-in-law walk three years ago on a Saturday morning and she never came back home. She was hit by a car and drug into the bushes. The man came back a few hours later and stabbed her 13 times. I always said if Michele had a gun in her fanny pack when she went for a walk she may have been able to save herself. She lived on a farm and knew how to shoot a gun and if she would have had one things may have been different," Caveletto reasoned.

The most central point to this discussion is that we have 20+ years of data and 48 states to reference. Yes, when Florida was the first state to pass a statewide shall-issue CCW in 1987, some of the questions were perfectly valid... Would there be "gunfights at stoplights"? Would the blood run in the streets over trivial arguments if we let permitted individuals carry defensive sidearms?

Well, the results are in. We have almost 25 years of casework to reference and the answer is no, those things just do not happen.

The next time you bring up CCW and the anti gun rights morons start blabbering their little "scenarios", make sure to point out that we aren't asking how many angels fit on the head of a pin anymore. This is a question that was asked 24 years ago in Florida and for the past couple decades, in 48 of the 50 states, we've figured out the answer.

with illegal gun ownership and murder.

Not really. This is really no different than when Harold Washington snagged the mayor's office.

Got to love Texas. That's why criminals are flocking from there and coming to Illinois, the criminal friendly state.

How is it that Gov. Quinn has forgotten already he serves the people not his own agenda. Quinn, the people of Illinois want the death penalty AND concealed carry. How dare you end the death penalty based on your beliefs alone. The death penalty issue should have been a referendum and let the people decide, the people you SERVE. Who the fuck are you to shove your beliefs down the throats of the peple of Illinois. I'm so sick of these jagoffs in power who feel they speak for me. How quick they forget that they were elected by the people and they are not Kings. You need to take the pulse of the people and quit deciding for me what you think is best. Fuck you and your idealistic no death penalty and now this concealed carry bull shit. Hey King Quinn, you don't speak for me.

They got to her while she was vulnerable, just like Ron Holt and Mike Ceriale's parents.

Those of us who can take care of ourselves scare those of us who cannot.

That's why the libs are against concealed carry. They prefer to have government make the decisions for them and to "take care" of them.

It's the same image that they foisted upon "survivalists," as if it was something bad to prepare yourself for natural or man-made disasters.

Hell, now they recommend preparing yourself for such things. See www.ready.gov

"I too have spent time in CCW states, particularly Texas, where(gasp!!) people walk around with guns on them. In broad daylight!!!"

I love it when they compare the responsible carrying of a firearm to the "Wild West."

I'd be willing to be that there was less violent crime per capita in the wild west than there is today in Chicago.

re: "Fingerprint All Guns?"

One of the biggest problems with this idea is that the ISP lab ONLY tests for DNA. They are fingerprinting fewer and fewer guns these days (The state's broke, remember?).

They send the guns to be fingerprinted to CPD forensics and there is only one guy who does the fingerprinting on the guns, as well as for burglaries, thefts, etc.

There isn't enough time in a day for one guy to fingerprint all the guns we take in.

"Quinn Wants More Victims"

Aren't we already his victims?

Hell, even convicted felon George Ryan temporarily lowered the gas tax when prices spiked in 2001.

One more reason to add RECALL to the voters' repertoire.

This guy was always thought to be a goof. I'll bet that Gov. Goofy has an armed security detail that chauffeur's his pathetic ass around. He is like the shankster, do as I say, not as I do. The next time that asshole has to run for re-election let's not forget what this guy did. He has abolished the death penalty, stalled conceal carry, and is pushing the Dream Act. I am 100% Irish and I REALLY HATE almost every Irish politician. Daley, Quinn, Madigan, Durbin The Turban, our pro terrorist senator. I don't have time to name every Irish wanker politician. This country needs a mid course correction. How about lecting a pro American politician. Not some self serving assholes.

I just read this morning that Quinn has discontinued Illinois' participation in the Federal deportation program of illegals who commit felony offenses because evidently some who have commited misdemeanors have been deported.

Quinn doesn't like that so he idemnifies illegals from the law and he ignores the law in the case of the 2nd Amendment!

The Democrats are intentionally planting the seeds to create a crisis in this state so they can maintain total and permanant control.

He pulls this shit after he folded and did nothing on the political reform front but to make Madigan and the combine more powerful.

What a turd.

Perhaps if the pussies at F.O.P. would have supported concealed carry it might have had a chance, now I have two more assholes on my vote no list

Lets see Pension/Collective bargaining rights or Right to carry? Ohh, I already have right to carry, I'll take PENSIONS!

If the politicians feel that they
require armed security details to
protect them from the populace, then it would stand to reason that
the average citizen needs to carry
a weapon to protect his or herself
from the bad guys because they can't have the luxury of a Police
Officer following them around for
protection. Because they, the citizens can get shot anywhere, on the streets, in their vehicles, or even when they are in their homes !

Just vote Quinn out next election.

Then everyone can carry a gun. Of course, it will mean you have to give up your pension, but that's a small price to pay.

Forgotten? He never felt that way from day one. He's a democrat of the worst ilk; the kind that knows better than you and I. He knows what's best for us, or so he thinks.

Illinois withdraws from federal immigration program

Gov. Pat Quinn and state lawmakers Wednesday cast Illinois as a sympathetic voice in the nation's volatile immigration debate with two actions that run counter to a wave of pro-enforcement measures approved or under consideration in Arizona and other states.

Quinn's office on Wednesday sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security declaring the state's formal withdrawal from Secure Communities, a federal deportation program that targets hardened criminals but has also been used against illegal immigrants arrested for misdemeanor crimes.

The lack of a CCW law here in IL has not only made this state more dangerous for the public in terms of street crime, but it also has set us square in the sights of muslim terrorists. Terrorists will always try to attack the weakest target, and right now,IL and WI are the weakest targets, since niether state has CCW. With Chicago the "home town of Obama", and with the security in NY, LA and DC so much higher, that makes Chicago a very tempting target, since the terrorist know that they only have to worry about the Police, there are no armed citizens for them to worry about, making us all very vulnerable. If you doubt this, do a little research on the Beslan Russia school take over vs. the way that schools in Israel are run. Beslan, with no armed citizens (at least not initially) vs. Israel with many armed citizens. In Beslan, the death toll was in the hundreds, mostly children. Israel has never had a successful school take over, never. There have been a few attempts, and they all resulted in the terrorists dead before the body count could go past a few. CCW makes us all a little bit safer, by making our State and City a harder target for both criminals and terrorists!

RE: Retired PO's being arrested by NY and NJ police.

Is this true or just some Snopes.com BS?

Is this a State and/or agency policy?

If this is not agency policy, then an officer that arrests someone because the officer does not believe in the Fed law faces the prospect of personal civil litigation. Which means he pays his own legal defense and damages.

Yeah, I know NY and NJ are left wing shitholes, but gotta have more proof on this to fly.

Greetings from Montana, I moved here 14 years ago from the Shitty of Chicago. I didn't want to become a convicted felon. I've never been convicted of any crime in my 67 years on the planet. I always carried a gun my whole adult life in Chicago, I'm sure I wouldn't be here now had I not have been able to defend myself. I never had to shoot anyone however the sight of my .45 usually did the trick.

Quoted below, how could these politicians be so clueless?

People aren't bringing Twinkies and Ho Hos to Navy Pier and Independence Day fireworks.

Via Detective Shaved Longcock:

Rep. Monique Davis, D-Chicago, said she cannot get beyond the violent deaths of Chicago police officers.

“I, too, like the John Wayne movies,” Davis said. “I like those movies about the Wild West where everybody’s carrying a weapon and everybody’s shooting at each other. We don’t live in those days any more… America is no longer the Wild, Wild West. I urge a no vote.”

Outgoing Rep. Harry Osterman, D-Chicago, warned the legislation would lead to people bringing guns to places like Navy Pier and create tragedy.

"This will add to injury, to death," said Osterman, who was recently elected to the city council.

Rep. Marlow Colvin, D-Chicago, said downstate lawmakers come from places that are much different from the more dangerous streets of Chicago. He feared what would happen if concealed weapons were allowed at an event like the Independence Day fireworks in Chicago, where a million people may turn out.

“Talk about powderkeg,” Colvin said. “One size does not fit all.”
