Good Job Officer
An off-duty cop and a passerby grab a DUI offender who just killed a man:
A landscaper and an off-duty cop chased down a reportedly intoxicated man who fled after allegedly running over and dragging a 66-year-old insurance broker in a fatal hit-and-run in Logan Square Wednesday night.
“As soon as I saw the guy running, it just kicked in,” said 30-year-old Ogden District Police Officer Zachary Cuatchon. “I got out and gave chase. I said, ‘You’re not going anywhere,’“
Cuatchon and 39-year-old landscaper Adalberto Aceves were both on their way home from work when they helped catch the man who was later charged, Saul Chavez, 35.

Officer Zachary Cuatchom has always been an excellent human being as well as an awesome Police Officer. This does not suprise me one bit. Good Job Zach. Not bad for being in the "worst class in 5 years".

Is it just me or is anyone else sick and tired of the Supt. public threats. Wow why don't the Police keep there cards close to the chest and just do it. Why give the gangs a reason to turn on police with scare tactics. I'm sure the Police are willing to take down this and any street gang for that Great 2% increase they received.
I work in the courts. Trust me, the offender will go to court, continue his case until everyone drops by the wayside and get probation.
About a year ago, there was a DUI case where a Chicago police officer's son was killed (may have been retired) who came to every court appearance for the case. Offender was an illegal. It was continued forever and then finally thrown out for some bullshit. The offender wasn't even turned over to ICE. I can tell you everyone who worked in that courtroom had a broken heart for that father. He listened, heard and then got up and walked out without saying a word. This is our system today. There are no consequences for criminals and no justice for the victims. And THAT is the reason animals are attacking people on the Magnificent Mile in broad daylight.
To that father---we know who you are and you are included in prayers everyday by many many people. God Bless you and I am so sorry for your loss.

let the young officers work the street , that's what they were hired for , not to perform office or security guard work , let's be real evidence techs could be replaced with a civilian and those officers could be assigned to districts , plenty of sworn officers hiding in every district commanders office , homan square and crime lab

We the average joe citizenry NEED you GOOD GUY COPS ! But you need us good citizens too. I have observed an incident where a citizen jumped in to help save a life at an accident scene and the responding tough guy cop treated the citizen with disdain, contempt and YELLED at him to "get lost".
Please officers, please don't tolerate those types amoung your ranks. We the unarmed working stiffs NEED all the good cops a city can hire. But the few bad apples are a clear and present danger to both good cops and good citizens.

I saw this accident after it happened. Officers were just cuffing the scumbag and behaving much more professionally (i.e. not beating the shit out of him) than I ever could have behaved. A neighbor who witnessed the murder (not exactly an "accident" when you know you're dragging a pedestrian) said they had to have the CFD come to winch the car off of the body. It was burned and disfigured from being under the car--as if the horror isn't enough for the family member when they ID him. Fucking drunk shit head. I hope he gets shivved and bleeds out slowly.

If justice is to be had in a case like that, a veteran cop knows it won't happen inside a courtroom.
Either take care of business yourself or get lots of grief counseling and forgive the offender.
Slow down boy-o, no charges until ASA talks with everybody who ran back into their garages, the people who live on the 3rd floor of a building 2 blocks over [who were not home at the time] and then ask the offender if the police mis-treated him.

I hear you 110%. The only people who actually see this injustice day in and day out are the ones who are involved in law enforcement. The police, prosecutors, defense attorneys, people who work in the court system, etc... We need to educate people and tell them how the irresponsible get away with a deed and the responsible get screwed a second time (1st by the criminal actions by the offender and 2nd time by the courts who give probation, supervision, etc.).
If the public knew that in most instances criminals get away scott free, then there would be outrage.
