Two girls, ages 2 and 7, were shot in a park in the Northwest Side Avondale neighborhood Wednesday night.
Emergency crews responded to the shooting in the 3500 block of West School Street at 7:48 p.m. and found two injured children, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado said. Both were taken to Children’s Memorial Hospital in serious to critical condition, he said.

A man was mugged on a Red Line train on the Near North Side this morning by five people who punched him and took his iPod and some cash, police say.
The 35-year-old man was on his way to work from his Evanston home when he was attacked by the group at the Chicago station, according to Police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak.
The man told police he had seen the group harassing other passengers before they robbed him. A woman in the group grabbed his iPod and, when he tried to grab it back, one of the others blocked him and punched him in the mouth, Kubiak said.
The assailants were described as being 15 to 25 years old. Four of them were males.
This morning's attack followed a Wednesday afternoon mugging at the Brown Line stop three blocks away, in which a group stole a male victim's wallet and iPhone. That group comprised four to six people, with one of them possibly female, police said. But police couldn't say if the same people were responsible for both attacks.

Two black male offenders, purposely pushed the woman and her baby down a flight of stairs, said police. Then the suspects went through her diaper bag looking for money, said officials.
It's unclear if anything was stolen and the severity of the victims' injuries, if there were any, was not disclosed.
Both suspects are in their early twenties, approximately six-feet-tall, and 180 to 200 pounds.
One offender was wearing a gray shirt and baggy pants. The other criminal, who has dreadlocks and a beard, was wearing a red shirt and black baggy pants.
A direction of flight was not given.
Police are investigating.

Where precisely would you go to get away from this? The fact is that the USA is broke. We have $61B in unfunded government union benefits; that is, each citizen owes $543,000. It was in a study posted by USAToday yesterday. I have also seen the number $77B mentioned in the economics news and magazine. The end of the road is in sight. These payments and bennies are just things that polticians have promised the unions, crossing their fingers and hoping that the money would appear from somewhere. There is no somewhere. You can't get it unless you enslave the rest of the population, and that--or something comparable--is probably coming. And you still won't get it.

Mob Attack Reported In Red Line Subway

CHICAGO (CBS) – Another mob attack has been reported on a CTA train, this time in the Red Line subway in the wee hours Thursday morning.
A 35-year-old Evanston man was on his way to work on a Red Line train at the Chicago Avenue stop around 4:30 a.m., when five suspects attacked him, police said.
One of the suspects, a female, took the man’s iPod and when he tried to grab it back from her, he was “blocked” by other suspects and then punched in the mouth, police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak said. Cash was also taken from the victim, who was bruised but was not taken to a hospital.
The suspects are four males and a female, all between the ages of 15 and 25, Kubiak said.
The victim told police he saw the suspects “harassing other people” on the train, according to the officer, who said the suspects fled and were not in custody as of 11 a.m.

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court says fleeing police custody in a vehicle can be considered a violent felony.
The high court made its ruling on Thursday in the case of Marcus Sykes.
Sykes was convicted of being a felon in possession of a handgun in 2008. Officials said he was subject to a sentencing enhancement because of two previous felony convictions, one of which was fleeing the police in a car in Indiana.
Sykes argued his fleeing conviction shouldn’t be considered violent and two federal appeals courts, the 7th Circuit in Chicago and the 11th Circuit in Atlanta, have ruled in opposite ways.
The high court said in a 6-3 judgment that Sykes’ flight from police can be considered a violent felony.

How many police officers are there really? Per the City database, 14,147. There are 34,218 total employees listed. Search on "police." You get 14,611 results -- including 54 fleet maintenance employees (police motor maintenance), 2 Police Board employees, and 462 OEMC employees with police-related job titles (communications). Subtract these and you get 14,611.
Now... where are all these folks?

Ok enough is enough reintstate tru or msf. The dept needs a large moblie unit in uniform and marked squads that can be deployed to combat violent crimes. In my district there were over 28 people shot and 2 homicides in less than a week. So much for all the extra bodies being held down on paper jobs. Im sure my commander is gonna get dumped because the command staff has to save their own ass. Other districts are facing the same trend. Bottom line is we need more proactive and less reactive police work this is not nypd we don't have 40,000 officers and chicago is quite a bit larger than newark. Oh while your at it hire more officers we are budgeted for 13,500 so we are down by almost 5,000. Cut budgets from other areas not the police. The fd is fully staffed aren't they? yet they don't ride on 50 percent of the fire jobs called in the police get sent instead. 21R ride with fire on this asthma attack because they are affarid to work in the ghetto. To clarify the shooting route the gangbangers took in 017, they did not go past they field house or marked squad to get to the playlot. Avondale is an angle street that backs up to the expressway. The bangers came though the alley behind the park. They did, however, have to flee past the marked squad on School St. The CAPS officer and 2 civilian caps people did a great job. They car tore off onto the expressway, (right around the corner) and the description of the offenders, vehicle, and LICENSE PLATE was immediately given out while the officer did a great job of calming down screaming parents and little kids. The car was found by 14 a short time later. Everyone there did a fantastic job, p.o.s supervisors, detectives, and CAPS civilians. I was there. The CAPS coordinator was the one who wrote down the plate. He deserves his due. Made me proud to see how everyone came together and got the job done fast and got it done right. As much bitching about 017 that goes on this blog (probably by a few choice dogs) their shit is together when it matters. Good job 017, 014, and A/5.

Most librarians have a Masters degree in Library and Information Science. Many of them work as archivists. It's not a gimme degree that you get one night a week in room 101 at the academy. I know you're a lot smarter and much more worldly with all them one-baggers and what not, but that doesn't mean educated professionals shouldn't earn a livable wage.

Second, the layoff notice is just a formality, to ensure unemployment benefits for them and to comply with the law, for her.

OT: PENSIONS: Just got the FOP bulletin; says they pooled our money with other unions to fight SB512 - THIS BILL HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CPD. This bill protects only AFSCME employees. The FOP also took our money to pay Donahue and a lobbyist to not move a single one of our bills. There is an AFSCME meeting on June 28 at 205 N. Michigan Ave., Suite 2100 at 6PM. short bus, if you bothered to go to a union meeting in your whole career, you might have learned that cpd and cfd could be added to this at anytime. so the unions decided to start fighting this from the beginning, not the end. the likely scenario is that cpd of cfd will end up on something if not this bill.

True, and it is inexcusable, but putting it aside, he was a darn good boss. I worked for him. Not a racist or hater bone in his body and I worked for a number of racist haters. It makes for an absolute shit work life. If there was only one person to ever get a pass for lighting up the cup, I am glad the pass went to Frank Trigg.
Trigg was a disgrace to the exempt ranks, period.
Another one (from 007) was Ivory, dumber than a box of rocks. No, neither one of them could be called racist haters, but they were ineffective leaders, which should be everyone's main concern.
ANd as far as 'racist haters' go on this job, blacks have never been in a strong position of power within the dept. Not 30 years ago, not now, even when we've had black Supts., all of them pretty much did the Mayor's bidding. I don't doubt there may have been some higher ranking blacks that may not have felt much love for their white brethren, but it's doubtful that any were in a position to hurt you.
I recall many years ago that Renault Robinson was ordered to patrol an ALLEY because he dared challenge a few 'racist haters' back in his day.
