More Changes Ahead
The rumor mill is in full swing, and goodness knows cops can't resist a good rumor:
- Your going to love this SCC and readers! Starting tomorrow the last class of recruits from the now empty academy will be assigned with 1 academy instructor top patrol Michigan Ave 10 recruits to 1 instructor! No FTO pay,nothing extra "reality what a concept!"
If they were actually pushing through Academy classes, this would be a good thing. Every new body gets 90 or 180 days downtown. High visibility patrol, walking posts, fresh air, citizen interaction, and all sorts of action due to the mob attacks. But putting the last class through - what are there, fifty of them? It's a start, not a solution.
- All full duty p.os and sgts gone from 35. Including nurses. Admin and district spots next.
Is this an additional dump? Because we thought they had covered this about two weeks ago along with the TRU/MSF disbanding. We realize McCarthy said he'd bring paperwork to a standstill in order to man the streets, but the downside is that the incompetence of the command staff will be brought to full light without .... wait a minute. There isn't a downside. Carry on.

Good riddance. A useless subdivision of the Department created for the sole purpose of giving Shortshanks' fishing partner an undeserved deputy slot with all the overhead and none of the investigatory responsibilities needed to run an Area.

Any truth the CCG was formed so the C.O. of his bodyguard detail would keep his mouth shut about a domestic battery at the townhouse where the mayor said he fell off his bicycle? Probably just a rumor!
I was in 018 today and sure enough the last class of recruits were in groups of 10 with the class instructor (who by the way was no wearing his bullet proof vest as all the recruits were what a goof), Funny watching them try to march lock step with the instructor! maybe they should be out in teams of 2 to cover more area,they looked like the CTA busses all bunched up,then when you need a bus/copper you cannot find 1!
Oh, well, if investigatory abilities are necessary to RUN an area, then a/3 shouldn't exist.

I really believe this is a good idea, but I doubt it'll ever happen. After 21 yrs. on the job I can tell you they'll always take care of the clout babies..always. Not everyone in TRU saw the districts. All smoke and mirrors and always will be. Just back each other up, go home to your family and open a cold one. Be safe.

He created a special team that worked out of his office, which included Sergeant Sylvester Kinf and David Snethen. They quicly and effectively ended this problem with their unusual responses.
McCarthy should meet with Martin and institute a similar program on the Gold Coast.

C.C.G. was created to garner homeland security money..then , yet again, it became a made up boss spot..ie. car 47...keating...now tobias...its not needed...001 and 018 help each other out if necessary and both districts handle their business very well...all you have to do with these ''flash mobs'' is have tact actually get out of their cars and office..and lock them up..the beat cars in both districts are on the run constantly from call to call..001 has no rapid response cars...they never did...but both have numerous tactical officers that don't really do much....neither tact teams get any sort of calls..018 foot handles most of problems on michigan ave....up until recently..you never heard or scene anyone from 018 tact...and as for the 001st district tact teams....check the office..or the restaurants...or the viaducts...where they are catching up on the latest movies..BOTH districts have plenty of man power.
Like him or not Keating put in 16 hours a day dealing with 1 and 18, he started out a pompous ass but after awhile u could talk to him. He expected people to do their jobs, called them on it when they didn't and believed in the chain of command. Well chain of command from p/o to him, I can't answer past that.
Tobias is not the answer, by the time he's done stuttering another problem arises. You need a micro manager specialist to handle CCG, someone with experience downtown, that leaves georgas or Ryan.
Drug test CTA employees too. Half of them are asleep on the job or don't even show up for work in the first place. With the amount of riders the CTA gets everyday, its mind boggling to think they operate at a loss every year. At $2.25 per ride they should be printing money, and contributing some of those profits to pay off other city expenses. Instead its essentially a jobs program for the incompetent.

It's not mind-boggling that CTA operates at a loss. Public transit aint a money maker and if it was it wouldn't be public operation...it would be call the US CELLULAR TRANSIT AUTHORITY OR THE UNITED RAIL or something corporate like that.

I can't believe the new sup would be dumb enough to knock everybody out of 35th. Some work has to get done and can't be left. But then again maybe he doesn't care if all functions come to a complete halt. THis department just keeps getting better and better wtf

TSA HAS NO POLICE POWERS, they just the ability to call police for every little nail clipper, butter knife or old lady that doesn't want her stuff touched.

Eliminate the TMA from downtown. Has anyone seen these flailing traffic cones ever pull traffic and speed up the flow. They look at the light and when it turns red they hold up there hand. Then they stand there and obstruct cars and pedestrianns and when the light turns green, they wave at you to go. As I pass them I always yell out, "Thank God you were here!" I mean how else on earth would I have known when to stop or go? Do you remember a good traffic cop running an intersection. Light turns red and it's backed up he keeps pulling the traffic to smooth things out. Trafic is still a nightmare in the loop and now we have the wonderful flailing traffic cones on the city's tit. What a waste, why is there no accountability for them. When their supv. drives by, (Oh ya knows theys gots ta have a supv) what the hell is he looking at. eliminate the loop TMAs and save hundreds of thousands if not millions.

You have obviously accomplished a lot in your life but you should let the police do what they need to do to resolve the flash crime mobs and call it what it is. They are committing robberies and telling McCarthy to down play the incidents are a direct contradiction to your so called plan of openness. Instead of posting Police Officer names and salaries on the web you should be more concerned with telling the truth to the public about the crime in this city. We all know that the truth may affect tourism but if you want to be open, please tell the truth and let the professionals do what they need to do to get these thugs under control. I also recommend you hire an outside special counsel or investigator to look into the death allegedly caused by Daley's nephew because right now your administration is losing credibility very quickly. What a great idea! Since Water Tower Place is a huge tourist draw, a huge retail complex and a huge generator of sales taxes, it makes sense to concentrate police resources there.

There are no CPD recruits in the academy. There are suburban recruits in the academy, about 25 to 30.

aviation police do more than cpd on the field or in the terminal .... create more event numbers, more activity... arm aviation ..... it' s no difference.. all aviation is sworn.......never been major crime/ terrorism crimes committed in the airport.

LeRoy Martin is still living and at the time was the Deputy Chief of Area 4 Patrol. Fred Rice was the Superintendent when Martin was the D.C.
Sylvester King was the sergeant in-charge of the "smash & grab" team.
David Snethen was one of the stars of the team.

why does cpd need a deputy chief for 2 districts , have 5 areas with 5 districts each or close 21 and area 1 can pick up 1st district,close 13 and area 4 can pick up 18 , problem solved , 1 less deputy chief and lots of office workers back on the street.

I no longer live in Chicago, although I visit often, but I have not been downtown during the day, rush hour, in many years. The old time traffic cops, with the white hats, blowing the whistle on the corner, were absolute experts at keeping traffic moving in the Loop and environs. They were lartely self taught, and seemed to be impervious to weather, at least during the time that they were actually on the corner. Every once in a while one of them was a real hero in capturing a bad guy who had just stuck up a store in the Loop or pushing some pedestrian out of the way of a speeding car. Besides they were part of the fabric of downtown and nobody could make a whistle sing like those guys. Aaaah, the old days.
