Mob Attack Reported Downtown
A mob of about 15 to 20 youths reportedly beat and robbed two people downtown, a witness told NBC Chicago.
The attack happened near the intersection of West Chicago Avenue and North Wabash Avenue at about 8 p.m. The young people stole one of the victim's wallets, which reportedly had about $300 in it.
The thieves then ran to the nearby Chicago Red Line stop, at Chicago and State, the witness said.
When contacted by NBC Chicago, police said they were investigating a "battery in progress" in the area.
The reported incident comes within hours of police issuing a community alert in connection with a pair of mob attacks on Chicago Transit Authority buses and weekend attacks in Streeterville and the lakefront.

Mobs Attack on City Buses: Police
Gang of teens storm bus, attack victims and run off with their belongings, police say
In two separate incidents, as many as 15 teens have stormed Chicago Transit Authority buses, attacked their victims and darted off with cell phones and other electronic devices, authorities said Tuesday.
Both incidents were near the University of Illinois at Chicago campus, prompting city and campus authorities to issue community alerts.
In the first attack, near West Roosevelt Road and South Loomis Street at about 11:40 p.m. Saturday, a victim was struck multiple times before the thieves ran off with his cell phone.
About 25 minutes later, near South Racine Avenue and West 13th Street, a student said he was sitting on a No. 12 bus when as many as 15 black boys and young men boarded the bus without paying. The student was hit in the back of his head with a glass bottle and was robbed of his iPod, said UIC police.
An ambulance took the student to University of Illinois Medical Center for treatment, the alert said. Surveillance video from the bus may be available for review, it said.
The young thieves were described as being between 14 and 20 years old, standing between 5 feet, 5 inches and 6 feet, 1 inches tall, and weighing between 140 and 180 pounds. They were last seen wearing baseball caps, shorts and T-shirts. Some of them had braided hair and others had short hair, the alert said.
The community alerts come as other mob attacks in Streeterville and along the lakefront are making headlines. Five teens have been arrested in connection with the Streeterville attack, but police Supt. Garry McCarthy vowed to find more of them.

As police investigate, witnesses say the incident may have started as a robbery at the lakefront. The robbery victims then chased the suspects but were over powered when they caught up with a couple of the suspects.
ABC7 talked with one man who says he saw the scene unfold near Michigan Avenue as he left work.
"That's when we dropped our uniforms and I dropped my book bag and tried to help. The kid gets back up. And they chase the guy in front of Potbelly's and that's where it ended. They beat him pretty bad but he got up all right. He was really traumatized. It was his first time getting jumped on. So it's really pathetic that 15 have to jump two," said Cory Bynum, witness.
There are reports that as many as five young men were arrested.
A man was attacked in a mob attack Saturday night. Seven were arrested after that attack.
Residents are advised to be careful of their surroundings and take care when they take out their wallet.

These robberies and beating are really old news. Repoprts were always the same, group of male black teens robbed me and ran to the train and fled. Its sad that the media was that terrified of shanks that they couldnt report that this was going on for at least the last three years. What did he have on them that kept them in line for so long and failing to report what was really going on downtown for so long?
The solution is easy. Plant twenty-five agile young coppers inside the red line station. When the young felons come running into the station, spotters on the street will already have alerted the CPD, who will be waiting for them with open arms.

At 8:30 pm there was a shooting at 67th & Stony by Walgreen's, one person dead, one injured....so the wry cynicism doesn't work.
Remember ten or more years ago when there were all those summer details and the new recruits were sent to the museum campus detail, Wacker Drive detail, loop traffic detail, or the lakefront bike detail?? They were sent there after their cycles to finish up their probation. You couldn't kick a can without hitting a P.O. in the foot. But then that was after the city/country got all of the grant money from Clinton to hire more police. There was a hiring surge from about the mid to late 90's to the early 2000's. But then the money dried up and the city slowed to less than a snails pace in hiring. Downtown WAS the safest place to be, but little Dickey said, "Why do we need all of these police here? Nothing ever happens." And there it is. Shitheads would come downtown then and anywhere they looked there would be a copper somewhere doing something (even if he/she was just standing) and think twice about doing something stupid. Yes there were incidents, but there were police close by to handle it. Now what do we have downtown? Museum campus-TMA's, Loop traffic-TMA's, Summer mobile-gone, Lakefront bike detail-thinned out if not gone. I know we don't have the manpower to staff all of those details anymore but FOR CHRIST SAKE!!! Some kind of detail needs to brought back and placed down there. Open a 90 day detail bid and see what happens. Maybe some of the burnt out district guys can get a summer downtown. They could take care of the problem early on and then cruze through the rest of the detail. But special units and details are incomprehesible to our new Supe. "Not something I'm used to" he says. Well get a clue and get used to it!!! The east coast is different from the midwest is different from the south is different form the southwest is different from the west coast!!!! As stated here many times before, quit trying to reinvent the wheel. What worked in the past here will work today IF bosses back up the officers. This has been going on for months it's about time the media starts covering it, redeploying man-power is not the answer, blaming the victim's is piss poor and also not the answer, we need to be able to be the Police again! Hate crime attack in 013, 3000 W. Chicago Ave@ 2130 hrs. Five M/ 1'S beat male Hispanic-not a gang member- to the ground and flee S/B on Sacramento and then ink. Victim states he was awaiting a bus and without any provocation he and girlfriend are attacked.

I think the "mob" makeup should encompass the racial makeup of the city! Blacks shouldn't be the only ones allowed is the "mob". Young whites,Hispanics and Asians need a voice. By not allowing these minorities into the "mob", opportunities are being taken from the excluded groups! I actually enjoyed the fact that while at the white house, Rahm enjoyed daily viewings and reviews of the drone attacks on insurgents. Heard a rumor today that I hope is not true. I was told some alarming information about our new digital radios. Apparently OEMC and law engorcement agencies visiting OEMC have the ability to listen in on conversations, wether you're keying your mic or not. I addition, I heard in this rumor that those listening can do so for as long as 90 minutes at a time. Remember you have no right to privacy while at work. Ultimately, setting aside the cowardice of the thugs that are committing these brazen crimes and the politicians that enable them, the real problem in all of these incidents happening in high traffic areas is that we law abiding citizens aren't often using OUR strength in numbers. In most situations, we outnumber the animals.
Concealed carry or no, able bodied men acting together can subdue, or at least scare off, a bunch of undisciplined, chickenshit thugs. Even those who might feel they don't have the physical strength to lend their fists can start their cell phones recording, then upload it to YouTube under an easy to search title and tags while also forwarding their content to the police. Community cohesion needs to be the order of the day. The bangers stick together, why don't the rest of us?

I continue to be haunted by the case involving the woman, Sally Katona-King, killed after being knocked down the stairs at the Fullerton el a few months back. In the midst of rush hour at one of the most congested transit stations in the city, some piece of filth was able to steal a phone, kill a woman, and exit the station without being stopped by anyone.
It's beyond pathetic that people give thanks that someone else is being victimized and go about their business. Police do what they can given the shackles they are working with, but the rest of us need to reinforce one another too.

I suggest when these shitbirds get arrested that an "I" bond be out of the question even for the pimpiest of charges. Locked up a bucket boy about a week ago and suggested there be no bond for him but ultimately he left hours later. There has to be zero tolerance for all crimes having to do with quality of life issues. When they are enforced no "I" bond issued. These P'OS don't care about getting locked up because they know they'll get out soon or be released to they playanutie. Send them to court in the morning. It'll put a little salt in their game. Meanwhile northside cops should brush up on the the obscure charges relevant to districts like 001,019, 018, & 023.
