Disbanding Permanent
Acting police Superintendent Garry McCarthy was quizzed by Chicago aldermen for more than three hours Monday before a City Council committee signed off on his appointment.
In his first act, McCarthy put hundreds more officers on the beat this summer, a shift away from the Chicago Police Department's strategy of fighting crime with specialized units.
"That's an easy fix and a different management style than I'm accustomed to," McCarthy said of the special units, which "parachute" into hot spots to respond to spikes in violence.
Those officers "may not go back" to their specialized units when the summer deployment ends, McCarthy said.
Oh, evidently the Acting Super's appointment passed out of committee and goes to the full City Council now. Hooray!

Depends on what the word "may" means. Does it mean might or does it mean can't? Either way I think our new superintendent is quickly showing how he is going to use semantics and out and out lies to explain away his decisions.

Even if McCarthy is a good guy and means well, he'll learn to play ball with the politics or else he'll get steamrolled and blamed for everything. He'll realize its better to be liked by the powers that be than be effective.

After the 90 days another citywide unit will be started. The unit will have a different name and be slightly smaller then MSF. The department needs a unit they can send downtown with all the wildings.

Kinda hard to go back to a unit that doesn't exist anymore. Everything is gone from TRU. All the cars, carbines, tasers, radios, everything. Place is cleared out. Where it all went is anyone's guess. Don't know what is gonna happen with the rest of the citywide units, but TRU and MSF are done. If I was in Gangs, Vice or Narcotics, I would be busting my ass right now, cuz you are definitely next. He probably won't "decentralize" those units, but "the cream will rise to the top" and they will stay and the dogs will go. Welcome to "meritocracy." It was a good run. See you all in the trenches. Don't worry most of the officers from MSF/ TRU will soon forget how they were treated and will be the first ones to sign up for the next BS unit.

McCarthy says he used this method in every department he's been in. He says it works wonders.

I said it before and I'll say it again, I enjoy having the extra bodies. However, it is not going to quell the violence as well as it use to when there would be an entire company in the district.

Whoever is complaining about not officers from TRU or MSF going to 010: I looked up 010 last night and saw a number of rapid cars up without any officers from TRU/MSF going there. 010 is one of the most fully staffed district in the city. It has always been that way and is one of the harder districts to get into, so please STFU!

This is why you all should have just stayed in patrol. I've seen it for 20 yrs. They start up these units and they all come to an end when we get a new Superintendent. They all come back to patrol, and not to a district or a day of group they want. Most have to find new partners. So, next time they start up one of these stupid units, DON'T GO!!!

Why would he bring back the units and save face. He would be telling Chicago he fucked up. Trying to do a "do over" is not in his vocabulary no matter how many tourists and taxpayers get victimized. I worked in MSF for 2 years and now after being dumped I can finally vent. I didn't appreciate being called the hair-gel police being that the only reason I got to go to MSF is because the dogs with more seniority didn't want it. How many times did district and mass transit police ask us to take their arrests because they were too f#@ken lazy or stupid to handle them. Yes we will be missed.

What the Chicago Police Department need is police officers that are willing to tackle the ruff areas and get these criminals behind bars as they should be. People are talking about the new Superintendent and where does loyalty lie, it lies to all the citizens of Chicago and the police should make sure this happens. When officers were sworn in for this job, they need that Chicago consist of (4)sides, east, west,north, and south and there is gangs throughtout each side of this city. What the sworn need to do is put their heads together and come up with a plan to stop all the crime, instead of knocking down another BOSS that they all have to answer to. Give it time and see what happens. My guess is that there will not be any difference in the crime stats after disbanding TRU & MSF. The matter of fact is that we need to hire more police officers.
Also tell Bureau of Patrol to knock off these BS missions they have beat coppers doing every day. I see these guys chasing their tails trying to find activity for the humper.

When they disbanded SOS we all went to other Districts and heard SHIT constantly about how those that never were in a "specialized unit" hated us". Well let me tell you my friend. Now if McSCUSE would put those fine Officers back to work on the beach front I think we would have a more placid beach. NYPD has ESU which IS SOS, and he is now going against it he is nuts!!! Pfffft. I don't know about those guys in 006, but im loving being back. Im in a better district than when I started and nobody bothers me. I answer my jobs, write paper, and lock up dude when I need to. It's fucking cake and that's all they want. What more can I ask?
I doubt those guys are miserable, and Im sure it will drive you crazy. Soon you will be bitching about the tact boys not cutting paper and G-Mac's goatee. Really, genius, you must be the one who told McGuff where to send people.
Look at the 10th Districts first watch over a period. Rarely a rapid or traffic car; often the wagon doubling as a beat car, only four sergeants for the whole watch right now. Often one or two primary beat cars down, but we don't have one-man cars.
Don't get me started on why we didn't get people, you ain't here so you don't know.

That was my impression of 006 also. Thats why I didn't bid there or a certain westside district.

You're right...I shouldn't call them animals. It's an unfair comparison; for the animal kingdom. You say they're as human as me? I work, pay taxes, take care of my family, have a mortgage and pay my bills. I have 3 kids by the same woman who just happens to be my wife. I don't use drugs and drink socially. I don't live beyond my means and I put some of my paycheck in the bank for future things like college for my kids. I'm nothing special, but don't tell me these crack headed, 40 OZ drinking, baby making, welfare abusing, uneducated, unemployed with no ambition to even look for a job pieces of ---- are even close to being as human as I am.

Oh, certainly! Plenty of officers "know how" to be the police. But see the only problem is that is it completely foolish and moronic to do so in this current anti-police envoirnment. You want you house on the line in some lawsuit? You want your name dragged through the mud in the papers? I don't think so.
You give me the supportive cultural envoirnment police enjoyed in the 1960s, and I will give you 1960s style policing.

it is really sad to discover how many molice officers wish ill on their brothers in blue. why would one be happy to see others miserable? i hope that the negative hating attitude is not a fair representation of the department and just a few disgruntled officers on the blog. yes i was in msf. i had a great team and worked my ass off for a city that i love and that has been home to my family for generations. i took the opportunity to do something different. i have 29 and a day to work a beat car. was it that bad to do something different for a few of those years. once the 90 is up i have enough time to bid to wherever i choose. it sad to see how many people get off on others misfortune. however the reality is nobody is crying about it the way a few portray it on the blog. no matter who you are if your calling for help i will be lights and sirens to help you...
