Tourists Scared
No one was seriously hurt in the flurry of five random attacks by a mob of young men on Chicago's lakefront over the weekend.
But the feeling among many visitors and residents that the popular Near North Side stretch where the attacks occurred is safe for strolling on a summer night may have taken a hit.
"I think it reflects badly on Chicago," said Dr. Jack Singer, 68, a Seattle oncologist who was one of two victims in town for a convention of cancer specialists at McCormick Place. "I've been coming to the convention every year, and this is the first time I've felt threatened downtown."
Acting police Superintendent Garry McCarthy told reporters this afternoon at City Hall that, while he's satisfied with how the police handled the mob action incidents downtown over the weekend, he'll not be completely satisfied until he's got every offender in custody.
"The strategy to prevent that from occurring again is not to be satisfied when 10 kids commit an infraction and arrest three of them. The answer is were going to go after all 10 of them," McCarthy said. "We're going to find every one of them, and we're going to prosecute and arrest every single one of them."

You-Tube is not posting any raw video on these attacks. Just a watered down news story version of the attacks. Someone with gang knowledge will have to gather up some of these so they can be posted and circulated.

McCarthy sent everybody to the ghetto districts. Maybe if he sent some to 018 there would be a better chance of rounding up all of the offenders. Most coppers in 018 are riding 99.
People in 018 actually need and want more police and are real victims. But I guess its more important to send coppers to the ghetto, where people hate the police, don't pay taxes and won't sign complaints.

What the fuck is an infraction? Is it jaywalking, littering, or making too much noise? Or is it a Forcible Felony like Robbery, possibly Armed? Or God forbid, a Hate Crime. And the "kids" who commit these "infractions" shouldn't they be called what they are, male black thugs, gangbangers, etc.?

Had my father in law for the cancer conference and they stayed at the Four Seasons while I live around Millenium Park. Must've walked up and down Mich. Ave w/them a dozen times and never saw any officers but there were quite a few packs of thugs.
Pretty amazing there wasn't extra security for this group, doctors from all over the world who are the best at what they do. When they go back home, they see dozens of patients a day so any bad news about Chicago will spread quickly.

No, no one was seriously hurt. But did you see the face of the guy on they motorbike? Bruised and scratched up. So how bad does someone have to be injured before it becomes serious? I really am not interested in name calling, but can the Superintendent or at least the Commander address the problem? Or does the Commander, Captain, Lt. etc. have to check up the chain of command before any action can be taken? So how are all those TMAs working out? Back in the day when there were more police and even recruits doing loop traffic, and a summer mobile detail, I don't remeber this type of thing happening.
I am a retired copper. My grand-kids are coming in to visit in July from Colorado. They really don't have any "great" museums out there or attractions like the Pier and lakefront and are always excited about coming in to visit ours, Field, S&I, Adler and such. I will have to disappoint them this year because of whats going on downtown. What a friggin shame.
Oh Boy! The taste is going to be rough this year. Daley is such an asshole, when he declared the taste would be foreever free. it is too late this year to build a fence around theplace and charge admission, but that is the only way to make it safer. I never go to the taste, after working there for years with the tact teams, I know better.

"CHICAGO | A 22-year-old Calumet City woman died Tuesday afternoon after being shot Monday on a South Side beach, officials said.
"Aeyanuna Rogers of the 600 block of Escanaba Avenue was pronounced dead at 1:58 p.m. Tuesday at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner's office said.
"The cause of death was listed as a gunshot wound to the head.
"An autopsy was scheduled for today.
"Chicago police said at 11:14 p.m. Monday, Rogers was walking with a friend on the 57th Street Beach near Lake Shore Drive when a fight broke out. Someone pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots, striking Rogers in the head..."

Every square inch of 001 and 018 are covered by some type of security camera. Where are the videos of these hate crimes? You betcha that if a copper bitch-slapped one of the thugs that would make the news.
Patrol has a plan to pull more officers from specialized units to patrol the beaches. Soon, every inside job will disappear except for the young, pretty females. This is a temporary fix for the summer. There are some administrative units that must stay operational so smoke and mirrors.

If you've let it get bad enough where tourists are unsure if they should come to Chicago you've done irreparable harm to our tourist economy.

Charles Thomas of ABC-WLS Channel 7TV News was interviewed today on Roe & Roeper, WLS-890 AM.
Charles blamed the victims in the Gold Coast robberies and muggings because kids will travel where people have things that can be taken.
He then said the incident with the Polish guy on the motor scooter was nothing more than a fist fight. Roeper corrected him on it, but it seemed to go over Charles Thomas.
Charles then mentioned he is also worried about kids from Englewood that travel downtown this summer to have lunch at Water Tower Place. He believes that some police will not treat them properly.
