"The NRA Does Not Like Me"

Nice quote tucked away at the end of this Channel 2 story:
  • On Sunday morning, McCarthy attended mass at St. Sabina Roman Catholic Church in the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood, where he revealed another part of his philosophy about cutting crime.

“The police cannot arrest our way out of crime. It’s got to be done on a different level,” McCarthy said. “It’s got to be done in recognition of the moral authority of the community to change behavior of criminals.”

The Rev. Michael Pfleger and the congregation at the church applauded at McCarthy’s remarks.

“The NRA does not like me, and I’m OK with that,” he continued.

Someone couldn't warn McCarthy about Pfleger and his race baiting antics? Honest to pete, the exempt structure still in place must be steering him to all the wrong places and laughing behind his back.

But back to the matter at hand. We like the NRA. In fact, we're joining up. You ought to, too:
And speaking of joining, the Illinois State Rifle Association is always looking for members.
Both organizations will like you just fine and send you all sorts of stuff to remind you how much they like you. Unlike Pfake Pfather Pfleger who would rather make you a victim every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

The NRA has a cheaper rate for the police. You still might be able to get a life time membership for $300.

Here is the link but it needs to filled out by a current life time member.
https://www.nravalidate.org/

Talk to one of the range guys, or Area 1 property crimes afternoons if you need a life member. Use the pax line and leave a message.

It pays for itself with the magazine and gun insurance. It is also tax deductible since we are police and can be claimed as a trade publication (not as a charitable donation).

Well 49 states can't be wrong can they?

With Illinois having the toughest gun laws people need to ask themselves why aren't the criminals in Chicago flocking to other states in droves where things like open and concealed carry permits are allowed?

Why isn't the crime higher in those states than it is here?

Why does Chicago have one of the highest crime rate per 100K people if the gun regulations are working?

If the ability to carry a gun causes high crime there's 49 states out there with less restrictive gun laws they should have higher crime rates than us according to the gun control propagandist.

Maybe the entire gun control issue is just a distraction away from the real causes of the high crime rate

Think!

When some of your first orders of business are preaching with Father Phleger, publicly voicing your opinion against the 2nd Ammendment and lying about gang activity, you're not going to earn many fans of the rank and file.

It's sad to see our Sup. climbing into bed with a fake and phoney like phlegar. This guy is nothing close to religious and is nothing more than a charlatan that preys on the niave and dumb. mcCarthy did not have to throw in the NRA comment, but I guess he is more of a politician than a cop.

It would be nice someday to see a boss that did not "buddy up" with these phonies. Phlegar may be the worst of them.

(longest rant comment ever)

I'm from another state, but moved here to take a job in the city.
Background: White collar guy, family man, boring life, my “record” consists of one traffic ticket since I started driving a billion years ago and now that I live here, in spite of the fact that I spent the better part of the last 20 years as a die-hard competitive shooter and gun safety instructor, legally prohibited from defending my family when walking the streets of the city I live in.

Back home, we had many officers who were members of our USPSA club. Hell, the local tac team used our private steel course to train a couple times a month. Sometimes, just for fun, they would even shoot against the club members on the poppers and plates to see who was faster (those guys were very good, too)... and ya know what? I spoke with all of them in great detail and there wasn't a single soul amongst them who was opposed to our gun rights! Not a damn one. If anything, they were rabidly in favor of honest citizens being armed. And now that I'm in "anti gun Chicago", so far my handful of casual chats on 'the gun thing' with CPD street officers have been no different. They all seem to strongly support my rights, too.
So just why is it that the men and women in uniform who are on the streets everyday, facing down all the anti-social bullshit we pay cops to deal with, are so quick to realize the necessity of allowing honest people the most effective means of self defense, while the ones who sit tucked away in office buildings drinking coffee and playing solitaire all day don't understand this? (now there's a question that answers itself...)

And more importantly, WHAT QUALIFIES these “administrators” to carry a gun themselves, yet claim that I, once vetted and permitted, shouldn't be able to do the same thing in lawful defense of my own brood?

Does Garry McCarthy- who presumably carries a sidearm yet thinks I'm “unqualified” to do so- does he think he can swing by a USPSA club and prove the validity of his position via demonstrated proficiency? Anyone think he'll be able to outshoot the club members? Anyone willing to bet on that? Shit, I'd bet the deed to my overpriced house in this dump of a city he couldn't outscore a random C Class shooter, yet he'd probably have the audacity to look that same person in the eyes and say he/she “isn't qualified” to own a firearm!

It's just ridiculous.
Yet another example of the colossal divide that exists between 'the officer on the street' and the career-climber politicians who somehow always seem to weasel their way into leadership positions in police stations around the country. I support blogs like SCC because they give a voice to the cops who are doing the job, rather than the “figureheads” who only exist to sit in office buildings and regurgitate bullshit fed to them by suit-and-tie assholes in City Hall.

Sorry, but this is the one issue that gets me going like no other... and why? Because I'm now a “criminal” for deciding that the lives of my family are worth more than the miserable criminal bastards who would harm them. The resume has been floated and at the first possible chance, Chicago will lose yet another 'provider' in terms of a high income earner leaving the city, because it values its rodent population more than its law abiding people.

McCarthy has a track record for gun control and is Anti-NRA as are all Democrat big-city police chiefs.

Newark police director is named chairman of gun control subcommittee for U.S. lobbying group

Published: Sunday, March 06, 2011, 5:00
By James Queally/The Star-Ledger

http://www.nj.com/

In January, McCarthy was named chairman of the Major Cities Chiefs Police Association’s subcommittee on gun control.

Earlier this year, Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) introduced legislation to reinstate the Federal Assault Weapons Ban, which outlawed the possession, import or sale of gun magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition. He said the bill, which was formally endorsed by the Major Cities Chiefs on Thursday, can only be helped by the support of people like McCarthy."

Politically, McCarthy is acknowledging what the media has dubbed "community leadership/activists".

Unfortunately, no one in the communities, like mine, see these fake pastors as leaders.

The real community leaders are not Fr. Phleger, or Jesse Jackson or the rest of the myriad of fake reverends, pastors who mug for the media and who the media go running to for "statments" at every chance.

The real community leaders are seldom on TV and prefer to stay out of the limelight. I know who the real leaders are in my community...most everyone does. The problem is the media and people like McCarthy don't take the time to find the real leadership, for if they did, they could really make an impact on community/race relations.

The fake pastor leaders are not respected by everyday community members. And real pastors in my community work with lay informal leaders to teach them non-violent ways to promote change. Real pastors CREATE genuine leadership in OTHERS, not themselves.

I like McCarthy's style, from what I've seen. I will respect him more if he takes the time to work with real grassroots leaders/community organizations and not the fake reverends who have been horrendous race baiters and poverty pimps for decades - time to end their reign.

McCarthy seems to be a very astute person, honed by his years in the upper ranks.I am sure he knows that he needs to make a connection with all sorts of individuals who are power players in Chicago, and the Rev Mike is indeed a power player. McCarthy hardly is a "goof" and I think the real good is the person who thinks so. Do not forget that the police superintendent is also a member of the Mayor's cabinet and must, to a certain degree at least, follow the directions of the mayor.New York and its mayors and police commissioners also do not like the NRA and do not cooperate with the retired concealed carry federal legislation. I have been warned by retired NYPD do not get caught with your weapon inside the city if you are retired or even active on vacation as you probably will be arrested . You can quote the law all you want, but you will be arrested. It will be interesting on McCarthy will handle this issue in Chicago.

I am all for gun control, a firm grip, not too tight and breath control, squeeze until the bang happens. Repeat as often as necessary.

If 48 out of 50 states can have concealed carry in one form or another and if violence in Chicago is spiraling out of control and the powers that be here still insist on fooling the public into thinking they do not need guns, well, what the fuck? What are they afraid of, a bunch of thug shitheads getting buried at county expense? A Father Pfleger backlash?

That former marine who killed the thug over a dog crapping on his lawn has to be my hero of the decade. Several thousand more citizens like that and the gang shit will take a definite slowdown I feel.

Perhaps go visit Officer Cozzi who is a very good man rotting away in jail. Well McCarthy, you just sold your soul to Satan. I'll remember that every night at work.

ABout once a month I go to a differnt Catholic Church. It's kind of a hobby. I look around before Mass, light a candle, admire the artwork, etc.
About four years ago, I went to Mass at St Sabina. I am a white male, 50+ years old. Now it was not my way to worship, but that is not what got me. What got me was the fact that as I entered the church, two "ushers" made me open my jacket, apparently to check me for weapons. I asked them if they wanted to frisk me, and if as a Catholic whether I was welcome to take part in Mass and they apologetically backed off, but one of them kept an eye on me through the whole Mass. I was not the only white male in the congregation, but I was a new face. Could you imagine if a black guy got a visual frisk at St Joe's in Wilmette and had an usher stare him down through the whole Mass.

I emailed several members of St Sabina, including Fr Pfleger, about what had happened. I received a reply, (not from Fr Pfleger) accussing me of having a racist agenda, that I had delibrately came to mass and acted in a questionable and suspicious manner, etc. I would have been happy if they replied, hey we have security concerns, etc. I forwarded that email to several folks at the Arch Diocese, who never bothered to get back to me.

btw, I attended Mass two years ago at a closeby Catholic Church where I was actually the only white person in attendance and could not have been more welcome.

There is ALOT wrong at St Sabina !

To all Police Officers that have or plan on taking advantage of the Concealed Carry for LEO's (HR218) remember that it was largely due to the efforts and assistance of the NRA that this landmark legislation passed. While the National FOP was one of the lead agencies, without the help. both financial and political, that bill would NEVER have passed. And don't forget George Bush II. There is no dumbocrat that would have ever have signed it. The scummy likes of (the late) Fat-Teddy and Charles Schumer did and are doing whatever they can to undermine and reduce this bill.

For all retired POs and good citizens. The city nows requires
a Chicago Firearms Permit (CFP)
CPD-31.577(7/10) and a Firearms Registration CPD-31.562(Rev.10/10).
You can call Gun Registration (ask to speak to a real PO) and ask them to send out the forms.

After over forty years of having legally registered firearms (duty and otherwise) the city couldn't even be bothered to let a retired PO know how the rules had changed and what was required. I am sure they would have eventually told me that I couldn't have guns in the city even though I am IROCC qualified.

How about including a link to the NRA.com?

It is an informative and eye opening website on the goings on in Springfield and Washington Congresses!

I was amazed at some of the bullshit articles and views they have exposed of the likes of the ACLU and other garbage anti-gun organizations!

They have great case laws and studies and current laws that work against the 2nd Amendment!

Then maybe some of our Liberal, Left Leaning Officers will see the Right light and join the NRA like the rest of us common sense thinking folks, who see garbage that should be exterminated on a daily basis!

Two observations.

First, as a Roman Catholic, I would never identify St. Sabina (as it exists today) as a Roman Catholic church. "Father" Pfleger long ago turned it into an evangelical Protestant church that is only nominally Roman Catholic.

Second, SCC writes, "Someone couldn't warn McCarthy about Pfleger and his race baiting antics? Honest to pete, the exempt structure still in place must be steering him to all the wrong places and laughing behind his back."

In my opinion, McCarthy knew exactly what he was doing; and doubtless his visit to kiss Pfleger's ring and robe was endorsed by (and perhaps even suggested by) the Fifth Floor at City Hall. Let's not forget that beyond the tough talk at press conferences, the Emanuel Administration is a very left-wing north-shore political organization----the type that deep down abhors cops, blue-collar whites, etc. So it's not at all surprising that McCarthy did what he did. Just don't hold your breath waiting for him to show up in Mount Greenwood or Garfield Ridge.

Wrong. Trying to "arrest our way out of crime" is exactly what Rudolf Giuliani and his team tried in New York City in the nineties -- and it worked. I am OK with being hated by all the jagoffs I've sent away. But the NRA protects my rights, unlike our elected leaders here and their toadies.

The NRA doesn't spray schoolyards with bullets; the NRA doesn't do drive-by shootings; the NRA doesn't stick up small businesses and then kill one or two for fun; the NRA doesn't enforce anyone's drug territory with murder.

Why the damn problem with the NRA? I don't get it. With responsible citizens carrying weapons we would have perhaps a dozen dead assholes these past two weeks and iPhones with their owners.

And that older woman who was pushed down the stair of the Fullerton El over someone else's iPhone might be alive or, at the very least, her killer might not be.

By the way, no arrest in that one as I recall. Who is going to be obliterated for that? Trail is growing very cold there.

The NRA is not the problem. Every thug gangbanger in the city IS. Make some new holes in those miserable bastards, don't vilify the NRA.

Nothing will be accomplished by banning assault weapons again or high capacity magazines.

An armed citizenry will accomplish much to restoring order here, not sleight of hand of our east coast boss.

You are showing us you are just another pol. I would like to see a police superintendent who frankly is edgy with the aforementioned types who have in part denegrated our city. Phlager has been in that church for decades and he has accomplished what? Someone tell me what credits can he boast of in that community? You go there to kiss his ring and what do you accomplish? I would like you to be your own man. The second place to get edgy is with your boss. The only way any superintendent is going to succeed in that job is to make the people you expect results from reasonably happy by defining the mission, staying on target and hold the fringe around the city and in city hall at bey. If you do not, you are going to be just another hump with his picture on the wall in a few years.

Hello 10:13 AM.
I'm the long ranter guy. Here goes another long reply (lol)

Unfortunately, when I moved here to Chicago for professional reasons, I set aside my competitive shooting so I'm not really 'in the scene' here like I was in Nebraska. I am, however, an ISRA member and I'm quite confident that they will steer you to the right local club.

Action shooting is quite possibly the coolest and most fun hobby on earth, not to mention having just so much usefulness to a guy in your line of work. You will traverse being "qualified" with a firearm into the realm of being "competent" and eventually, "skilled". After a while (and a LOT of ammo), there will come a time when you can knock down three steel plates in one second flat, almost as a matter of pure instinct. Getting to that point is just so rewarding. In your line of work, it's worth attaining that level of proficiency.

The only real piece of advice I can give to an officer looking to get into the action shooting sports is to resist the temptation of the Open classes.

Yes, the Open class squirtguns ("Raceguns" with electronic sights, big compensators, massively oversized controls, extended mags, etc) are fun toys but impractical and irrelevant to the skills needed for the sidearms we're apt to carry for defensive purposes.

IDPA or the Limited/Production divisions in USPSA are great and will really make you into a beast with your duty sidearm.

3 Gun Matches are worthwhile and will hone your practical skills with your duty carbine and shotgun (Chicago carries long guns, right?)

Anyway, head over to youtube and look up some of the established greats. Rob Leatham, Dave Sevigny, Brian Enos, etc. This will give you a glimpse into the boundaries of what a sidearm is capable of.

As always, a great blog. Now, as far as NRA not liking the new boss, I don't believe it. I think it is the other way around. I think he fears the NRA for what it represents. The NRA represents freedom, kind of an equal playing field, where CCW creates a new balance. This is a threat to some of those people who would be threatened by that equality. A guy in charge with certain special powers is all of a sudden not as powerful as he once thought. I believe this is the real problem in the last holdout states for CCW. The lawmakers and top cops simply do not want to relinquish that power. Also, I believe Springfield and Chicago think that all people are too irresponsible to CCW and thus have not passed every time it's voted on. It's a firmly entrenched mindset that will be difficult to change.

Great tough guy comment. For one, the NRA is not going to defend you. For two, NY and NJ are hoping for just such an event. They want to take the entire law to the federal courts to test the constitutionality. And, you WANT to be the test case? I love the guys who quote the law and dare someonw to arest them so they can sue. The states and cities can require you to abide by their paperwork and they do so. Just listen to the comments by those who live in other states, namely NY, NJ, Penn, states which totally ignore the law. And, don't forget to mention your own city and department which refuses to acknowledge it. So, after your tough guy comment, why don't you go to NY city and stand in TRimes square and tell the cop on the corner that you have a handgun on you. Then report back.
