Sinai today...apparently this worker dealt with the homicide from earlier in the week...and related the thug shot by police was apparently there at Sinai causing problems and working the crowd of "mourners" up by saying he was going to take matters into his own hands by getting revenge. All while carrying a gun of his own...the same one he pointed at police which caused his downfall. Good "kid" my ass.

I'm one of those that posted about him not being a gang-banger. I'm by no means a liberal, but I find this picture to be quite unfortunate. I'm glad it was posted bc I heard it existed but couldn't find it. I grew up in West Lawn (15-20 years ago) and occasionally hung out w A's and Two Six and although I'd I would NEVER have joined a gang, when I was 13-14, I'd occasionally throw something up...for reasons i'll never understand. I also have pictures of a now-cop as a teenager who was throwing up two six, even though he never was. Kids do stupid shit. Regardless of what he was, my friend saw a different side of him I guess, as did her sons. At this point, I couldn't be happier that they left Humboldt for another state only month ago. Good timing on her part.
You've confused deceased with wounded. The kid gunned down Monday was said by all accounts not to be a gang-banger. Nobody gave such an account of the kid shot Tuesday.
This is a big part of the problem - those Chicago police who could tell the difference if they tried, but simply refuse, and instead label every kid in the neighborhood a gangbanger.

I'm sure you're all comfy in your condo, commenting from on high, but those of us who grew up in Logan Square and work in Logan Square know that it's hard these days NOT to be in a gang. It's, sadly, the norm. We're not generalizing; we've been here, done that.
There were no gangs when I went to Darwin School. There were a few 'social' gangs, who tipped garbage cans and smoked on corners, when I went to high school.
Now, kids are recruited when they're nine or ten, and a kid whose daddy is a major player in a gang is definitely NOT divorced from the family business when he's sitting on daddy's front steps the night he turns 15 and 'becomes a man'.
So, go have a latte and enjoy your dvd collection and, please, don't inflict your sheltered, coddled brilliance on us. We're the ones in the squad cars at Hirsch and Spaulding, having bottles thrown at our cars at one a.m. You're not. We're the ones who see these kids day and night. You're not.

if this is true make sure that worker is interviewed immediately by someone from the city and it is put on paper. This is no joke. There will be a lawsuit filed about this shooting as with every police involved shooting. If you want to help out those coppers please let the detectives handling the case know. As a detective myself in area 2 I would go over there and debrief that person and at least get something down on paper and the persons information. In the long run this can only HELP OUT THOSE COPPERS. If that person were to testify in front of a jury in federal court it holds a great amount of water. If you dont want to get involved with it, let a sgt know or just give the detectives a quick call and let them know the worker, where they can be found and what they said.. And dont wait too long, since it just happened it would make for a great fresh statement and paints a great picture of this guys character.

Now that the daily shootings are just business as usual and acceptable in this "Sanctuary City" culture you can expect to see the be-headings like in Mexico and the mass graves as in Mexico as the drug cartels run within the cities zones of impunity -- just like they have in Mexico.

They were holding up signs saying that for every 8 black mailes in prison there is 1 white for narcotics. The wonderful speackers were speaking to the fact that the war on drugs destroys familys. Thanks for that input. There are way too many po's that come across info that never gets documented. Whether they're lazy, don't want to get that involved, don't care about the incident or dont realize the value of a good investigation. I've always made a point to instruct this basic info gathering on every shooting with every PPO or newby I worked with. This is how we used to do police work, even as patrolman, we thought like detectives and enjoyed our work. Now we no longer have the luxury of taking time to produce quality work, expectation of promotion or even a quality supervisor.
If you can, jot down everything, (always carry misc cards!) after your partner interviews someone, you re-interview the witnesses, people sometimes forget things or maybe feel comfortable speking with some one else. There will be somebody,somewhere that can always use that info or at least get it to someone who can. Even if it's for your own satisfaction, your effort will never go to waste.
I've been hung up on by many a dectective (with notifications) in the past, lots from SVU, with the proverbial 'you ain't got nothing kid', but there's no way I won't do a Supp Report. One fact today, there just aren't any detectives left to do many follow-ups, and it's going to get worse,but keep being the police, kid......

Money has been poured into communities on the south and west sides for years, decades, and nothing gets better. It will not get better until the behavior of the inhabitants improves.
Not everyone in these areas is bad; I have met quite a few upstanding and justifiably proud people in these areas while working. You can tell them very easily. They are the ones with clean houses, freshly cut lawn, and hold themselves in a maner consistent with good manners (ie, not cursing every 3rd word for effect).
However, there are too many people who cover up for their scumbag relatives who are involved in nefarious activity because they help to pay the bills.
When you walk into houses on the south and west sides, see cockroaches crawling all over the walls, dirty dishes stacked in the sink, babies sitting in shit filled diapers, but a brand new plasma TV, and Xbox 360 or other game consoles hooked up, it jades you toward helping them or the community. Why should I help if they cannot prioritize what is important, or, in some cases, refuse to prioritize what is important?
