BREAKING: Another Police Shooting

  • A person was seriously wounded in a police-involved shooting in the West Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side -- on the same block where a 15-year-old boy was gunned down earlier this week on his birthday.

The shooting occurred around 4:50 p.m. near the intersection of Kolin and Hirsch avenues, said Chicago Police Officer Darryl Baety. The shooting was police-involved, but no further details were immediately available, although it did not appear a police officer was shot, said a spokesman for the Independent Police Review Authority.

The victim was taken in serious to critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.

Rumor in the comment section said it may be the brother of the recently deceased non-gang banger.

UPDATE: Turns out to be a "friend" of the deceased, probably out looking for revenge. Be very very careful out there boys and girls. With the fest this weekend and everything, this isn't looking like a good omen.

UPDATE: This is priceless:
  • The elder Gonzalez described his son as a good kid who wasn't part of a gang.
There sure are a lot of non-gang bangers running around with guns and getting killed over that direction.

Not anymore it doesn't.

There is exactly ONE comment allowed -- "Gangs? What gangs?"

Eliminate the comments sections altogether - they produce no revenue -- and fire the censors, who cost lots of money.

This evening family members on the scene identified the man as Pedro Gonzalez.

This afternoon, officers spotted a man standing near Jovany's makeshift memorial near Hirsch and Kolin with what appeared to be a bulge in his waistband. As the officers approached the man, he started running and the officers gave chase, the official said.

During the chase, the man turned around with a gun, pointed it at a sergeant and another officer. That officer, in fear for his life, opened fire and shot the man, the FOP official said.

About a dozen onlookers gazed at the crime scene from porches and decks of buildings as about a dozen police officers huddled outside the red tape cordoning off the block.

Gang banger or not, who leaves empty liquor bottles at the memorial of a 15 yr. old? There is something very, very disturbing about how this kid was raised and how he lived. Angel? I don't think so.

I hope 10 more kill each other over the next week. It will save us the expense of incarcerating them. Why not let them keep shooting at each other until they get tired?

We should sign them up for target practice in fact, so they have better aim and no civilians are caught in the cross-fire.

By Carlos Sadovi Tribune reporter

8:14 p.m. CDT, June 15, 2011

The first shooting occurred at about 5:07 p.m. on the 600 block of East 42nd Street in the Bronzeville neighborhood, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala. The location of the shooting is near Sumac Park, 4201 S. Champlain Ave.

The girl, who was listed by authorities as either 14 or 15 years of age, was shot in the neck and taken to Comer Children's Hospital in critical condition, said Chicago Fire Department Chief Joe Roccasalva. Her condition had stabilized.

The girl was standing on the street when a black Chevy Camaro drove by and someone from inside the vehicle fired shots, striking the girl, said Zala.

[...]

In the second shooting, a 14-year-old girl was shot at about 5:30 p.m. near the area of 116th and State Streets in the Pullman neighborhood, Zala said.

The girl was shot in the buttocks while she was standing on the sidewalk.

OT
WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court says fleeing police custody in a vehicle can be considered a violent felony. The high court made its ruling on Thursday in the case of Marcus Sykes. Sykes was convicted of being a felon in possession of a handgun in 2008. Officials said he was subject to a sentencing enhancement because of two previous felony convictions, one of which was fleeing the police in a car in Indiana. Sykes argued his fleeing conviction shouldn't be considered violent and two federal appeals courts, the 7th Circuit in Chicago and the 11th Circuit in Atlanta, have ruled in opposite ways. The high court said in a 6-3 judgment that Sykes' flight from police can be considered a violent felony. The case is Sykes v. United States, 09-11311.

OT:Mob UPDATE

-------

Chicago cops nab 3 in bus robberies by mobs

Two charged as adults, one as juvenile

Three teens have been arrested in one of the two bus robberies that happened in University Village over the weekend.

Police said eight to 15 teens rushed onto two CTA buses without paying around midnight between Saturday and Sunday, beating up riders and stealing electronics from them. One incident happened at 13th Street and Racine Avenue around 11:40 p.m. Saturday; the second happened at Loomis Street and Roosevelt Road around 12:05 a.m. Sunday.

Akeem J. Manago, 18; Christopher Jackson, 17; and a 15-year-old boy were arrested for the incident on Roosevelt. They were charged with felony aggravated battery in a public place and armed robbery. Manago was also charged with felony unlawful use of a weapon and misdemeanor possession of a gun and ammunition without registration.

At a hearing on June 9, a Cook County judge set Manago’s bail at $350,000 and Jackson’s at $250,000. They remain in Cook County Jail awaiting court dates on July 1. The 15 year old was petitioned to Cook County juvenile authorities.

In a news release announcing their arrest, the Chicago Police Department said the investigation was ongoing.

The arrests are symptomatic of a larger problem in the city, as mobs of teenagers have been swarming victims around the city’s downtown, battering them and stealing cash and electronics.

Straight public safety -- emergency vehicles need to control hostile crowds at funeral home, no room for bandstands, beer sellers, conga lines, other nonsense.

To 0114, what ABC7 allowed on television was another thug from the hood posing as a normal taxpaying citizen complaining about how the Police were brought in the make the area safer and then they go out and murder someone. He then goes on to say that it was another case of the Police not doing their job properly. And of course ABC7 allowed it, ran with it knowing full well it was bullshit. ABC7 is now on my list of television stations I will not watch any longer.
I once debated Ron Magers about the biased and unobjective way the news is presented here. He denied any bias and told me that the reason they put stuff like this on television is because the Police Department will not talk to them. That's good because I will now no longer watch them either.

Hey Ron, watch that piece and then try to deny that your profession is corrupt. Mine may have a few corrupt Officers nationwide but yours is corrupt, biased and umprofessional to the bone!

WASN'T THAT WHAT THE FOP WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ALL ALONG? THANK YOU RAT KID, YOU ARE A LEADER WHO REALIZED THERE WAS A VOID AND YOU FILLED IT!

Kolin and Hirsch are nowhere near Humboldt Park not even near. west Humboldt Park as they say/write. WTF ! really?

Chicago has official and unofficial community/neighborhood names.

Officially (i.e. especially for census purposes), Kolin and Hirsh is located in the Humboldt Park community, which is bigger than the park.

Unofficially, Kolin and Hirsh is located in the West Humboldt Park community.

You've confused deceased with wounded. The kid gunned down Monday was said by all accounts not to be a gang-banger. Nobody gave such an account of the kid shot Tuesday.

This is a big part of the problem - those Chicago police who could tell the difference if they tried, but simply refuse, and instead label every kid in the neighborhood a gangbanger.

Rahm and G MAC have just announced increasing police by nearly 1/6 of it's size everyday. He says that upon completion of their regular days off he will have them return to work thus increasing the police everyday! This will easily fulfill his campaign promise of adding 1000 every single day!

It amazes me how the good citizens of hircsh and kolin, didnt see the killer of the only decent kid on the block, but they know for a fact, the low life who was carrying a weapon, he had no right carrying had NO weapon. Enough already! These politicians, the reverends, especially the ones that like to politic on the pulpit, plegher, de jesus and meeks, have to step up to the plate. If they are going to accept gang blood money and their criminal members to their fold, then they have to come out and condemn their nonchristian behavior. Go out to the street corners and fix what you all have broken. There is no fear of G- d or the law. God bless the cpd, cfd and the good citizens of this city. From the daleys, jacksons, meeks, vaneckos, guiterrez,on down, these pillars of society have cuddled the criminals that lurked within themselves and the city. The blood of all the good people that have died or been hurt by the criminal element, they nutured is on their hands

What is proper memorial etiquette. Now do you add on making it a double memorial, or does each promising youth get their own separate memorial. Any how Im sure it will be a great repass.

I'm no cop, but I'm pretty sure that in the picutre at 1:34 in this video, little dead Pedro & the dead other kid are BOTH flashing gang signs.

Can any of you in blue confirm? Also, for which gang is this a sign (or an inverted sign of "disrespect")?

PS, thanks for all you do, normal, tax paying, law abiding citizens like me are grateful for those of you who put your life on the lines to protect & serve.

Grateful in Streeterville

The gang bangers killed in Humbolt Park..The father of the mutt killed by police yesterday said his son mentored young kids in the neighborhood and he stayed inside the house. What about the picture of your son throwing gang signs????? Ben Bradley failed to report the gang connection on the 10 pm news tonight. Ch 7 even blurred the photo of this mutt throwing gang signs. Charles Thomas last week on the Roe Conn show, and Ben Bradley tonight. Ch. 7 news are a bunch of liberal cowards. Channel 9 showed the photograph of the mutt throwing gang signs.

6/16/2011 12:11:00 AM

His dad also said that his 21yr old son was best friends with the 15 yr old who got kilt earlier in the week. A 21 yr old & 15 yr old best friends.

I think more like a mentor. Showing him the ropes. How the gang works.

If the mayor had ANY balls he would cancel the permit for the fest and the parade. So what if the POS get made. It will be best for the city & the police that have to work there.

Then again just keep the police away from there and let the animals kill each other for the 3 days. It will free up a lot of tax dollars & cut down on the crime in the future once they all kill each other.

6/16/2011 02:40:00 AM

==================================TThe area is called "West Humboldt Park" and stretches from Kedzie to Cicero. The park ends at Kedzie. And the corner od Koline & Hirsch are only 1 1/2 miles away from the park.

When they say Licoln Park they don't only mean INSIDE the park. It's the area around it. The park ends at Clark but the area west to the river is still know as Lincoln Park.

If what it is called is bothering you, I think you need to get a life.

Is there any way to listen to the scanner for the Humboldt Park area on saturday? I checked radioreference.com but don't see any feeds for the 14th district.

Also, what is the deal with the feed that is only named "Chicago Police"? Does that broadcast stuff for the whole city or is it for a specific district and just mislabeled? Here is a link to it: http://www.radioreference.com/apps/audio/?feedId=763

Cltv news had an interview of the offender two days before. In the interview his ignorant ass had his hat cocked to The left, talking about the so called innocent death of his friend/cousin or whomever the hell he was to him. He was a gang banger. Great job robbery team, so glad you all are safe. Be safe all and back each other up.

When is the last time a copper goes to train with his firearm besides the one time of the year to qualify? And that's only because it's mandatory. It seems the shitheads are more willing than ever these days to shoot back at POs-specifically aiming for headshots where body armor won't come into play. Coppers don't train nearly enough, especially when our lives, family, and the lives of our partners and brothers depend on it.

I'm sure you're all comfy in your condo, commenting from on high, but those of us who grew up in Logan Square and work in Logan Square know that it's hard these days NOT to be in a gang. It's, sadly, the norm. We're not generalizing; we've been here, done that.

There were no gangs when I went to Darwin School. There were a few 'social' gangs, who tipped garbage cans and smoked on corners, when I went to high school.

Now, kids are recruited when they're nine or ten, and a kid whose daddy is a major player in a gang is definitely NOT divorced from the family business when he's sitting on daddy's front steps the night he turns 15 and 'becomes a man'.

So, go have a latte and enjoy your dvd collection and, please, don't inflict your sheltered, coddled brilliance on us. We're the ones in the squad cars at Hirsch and Spaulding, having bottles thrown at our cars at one a.m. You're not. We're the ones who see these kids day and night. You're not.
