Sneed Stealing Blog Comments

  • Cop shop . . .

The tsunami of new flash mob violence on the lakefront is a threat to tourism, business, Chicago’s economy — and the infancy of Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s promising new administration.

"Promising?" Way to suck up there Sneed - good to see you haven't lost a step with the new administration.

But duh! It's been going on for a few years now, not that Sneed would notice seeing as she carried water for Daley and Burke all those years. Remember, she stays at Burke's castle in Ireland when she visits.
  • "There was trouble on the lakefront before — but nothing like this," a top cop source said. "It’s like the bad economy has forced the gangs to enter into rich man’s land. If the city loses the lakefront to the flash mobs, there goes the economy."
Again, duh. And again, not reporting the crime doesn't mean it isn't occurring. Remember, they were shooting at the Taste years ago. And a quick youtube.com search shows the helicopter being used in the midst of a couple of huge gang fights by Buckingham Fountain years ago. But since it's happening in "rich man's land," it's finally getting covered.
  • Sneedless to say, it’s one helluva way for new Police Supt. Garry McCarthy to cut his prodigious incisors — especially because Chicago is reportedly short police manpower.

"reportedly"? It's your own damn paper that's citing the 2,000-plus number Sneed. Don't you ever talk to Frank and Fran?
  • So here’s a Sneed tip . . .

Why not hire retired police officers for part-time work and let them work a few days a week shoring up the areas that need protection?

Retired cops — nearly 2,000 in the past few years — are always looking for second jobs and part-time work.

They’ve got their uniforms, their weapons, their equipment. Many of these guys have 30 to 40 years of police experience.

"Always looking for...part time work"? Some maybe, not all. And many have second jobs that have nothing to do with chasing bad guys or police work. Many wouldn't come back here if you paid them blood money. Most probably sold their uniforms the first chance they got, probably at the FOP resale event that we hold twice a year. They couldn't wait to get rid of the damn things. And their 30 to 40 years experience is telling them to stay as far away from this superintendent, mayor and city as they can.
  • The city wouldn’t have to pay into a pension plan because they are already collecting their pensions — and have free medical care until they are 65.

Yet another reason to stay away. They got all their repairs done before they left. Why jeopardize the new hip, knee or shoulder?
  • The retired cops are still paying union dues.

Those are "fraternal" dues Sneed. They get to come to meetings, go to the golf outing, fish, get a newsletter, etc. They even get to vote. But the union can't negotiate employment for them. They can't provide them legal representation. They can't determine seniority issues, pay scales, work rules or hours. It's a near impossibility.
  • They wouldn’t be replacing cops or taking jobs away, just filling in the blanks until new cops could be hired.

Actually, they would be taking jobs away. Special employment and other such opportunities that are already provided for in the Contract. You can't just hire an entire class of workers and plug them into jobs already held by active members. There are laws against it. Here's a question - how are you going to indemnify these guys if they end up catching, fighting and shooting one of these fine honor roll students? That debate would last about Rahm's entire term of office.
  • Sound like something worth thinking about? Just asking.
Well, why not just shut up then? It is barely worth addressing, but we needed a filler piece tonight.

No matter how many police are there,or how many you catch...if they only get caught and released, they will continue to steal and commit crimes. The judicial system has to be a part of the equation. Mandatory 3 days in juvie for all mob crimes. Then you will see a difference!

Just LOVE that little 'they've got it so much better than you do' shot of Sneed's.

Just because you're retired does NOT mean you have free medical care, nor does it mean we have free medical PREMIUMS.

But, once again, the public will believe it because it's PRINTED IN THE NEWSPAPER, so it MUST be the truth. Bitch.

Just looked at the citywide incident report for 11 Jun 11. The report appears to tabulate the number of homicides and found that they list the number of homicides as 2. However, a closer examination of the number of people killed reveals that there were 3 people killed. I wonder if the city is counting it as 2 instead of three to kill crime. Just wondering.

I've got over 30+ years CPD experience and so the seniority to get any Special Employment the city offers. I have the worn out knees from all that police work. Am I suppose to chase these thug-mobs like I could when I was just out of the Academy?

Daley torn the CPD down to pay his friends and Rahm is doing the same and the citizens are suffering.

What you should be saying is:
To Rahm, HIRE MORE POLICE!

It is sad to say, but many retired officers were forced off the job by age. There are a small percentage of officers still looking for side jobs and miss this work. I hate to see a 60 year old work the street but use them inside and take advantage of their knowledge. How many retired exempts actually retire? In fact how many retired officers are truly retired? Times have change in the last five years.

Quick questions:

Do these retired guys have to live in the city?

Who gets hired back and and what pay rate? (Merit Babies)

Can you lose your pension or be sued civily for a B.S. complaint?

Who investigates the B.S. complaints when the citizens gets the service they need vs. the service they want? (cause there will be a whole lotta GFY from your retired cops who find they dont or care to take s+@t the animal anymore.

The short of all this is we already have this program in place, it's called Call back unit or 311 for alot of these type of active duty coppers. (No I dont work there.)

I mean, sure, this new guy is fudging numbers and being Rhambo's puppet, but the sense of destruction of the PO is gone. JFled hated us and jammed us up any chance he could, but this guy hasn't had ONE bad word to say about us. I don't feel so targeted and paranoid.

Are you brainiacs that fuckin stupid? It's simple.

There is no way that I would want to go back to doing police work.

Sadly we all know coppers who refuse to give up the star and we see many 70 years old still working full or part-time cop jobs in the suburbs.

I've been retired for 3 years and happily living in a small (Mayberry) type town.My goal when I retired was to get out of Chicago/Crook Co/Illinois ASAP.

Well, family obligations only allowed me to accomplish 2 out of 3 of my goals, but I'm happy and life has been very, very good to me.

There is not enough money on this planet to get me back to Chicago, much less back to the CPD.

The CPD world I entered 37 years ago has gone the way of the dinosaurs, good luck and God bless each and everyone of you on the job.

Never did a Police related side job or worked special during my career and certainly would not entertain the idea now. Oh, by the way, I could have worked two more years and got free medical coverage until age 65 when Medicare kicks in but retiring at age 58 was worth the healthcare costs just to have two more years of my life not being "on the job". Boys and Girls, make a plan and get out as soon as you can. Keep safe.

Let's admit the honest to goodness truth: the city of Chicago doesn't have enough police officers to provide basic security for it's citizens. Especially it's most productive citizens.

When North Avenue beach was closed down, there were no more than 500 to 800 gang bangers there. Imagine if 1000 to even 2500 gang bangers show up in downtown Chicago?

We need to hire more police officers before Chicago becomes another Detroit or Cleveland.

What Sneed said was a press release, she did no work on here own.
Ask any retired PO about the "free" stuff they get, there is none.
Sure, many politiians get free medical, but not us. Also, every year we pay more and get even less.
What ever happened to the FOP idea of taking over the health care. If I remember right, it would have saved the taxpayers and us ablut 15-20%.
In regards to the retired POs working, they could take over some of the civillian functions and would do a great job, they could also augment the desk, but not take away any bid positions.

For Crying Out Loud!!!!!!!!!!! Sneed I know you read this Blog, so answer me this. Every Government body Federal,State, County, and Municiple has a annual budget. Its where the elected officials decide what will be the operating costs for the upcoming year and alocate funds, ie;MONEY, to various deapartments to operate for that physical year. Ever since I have been on the Chicago Police Department it has been budgeted for 13,500 Sworn Police Officers, noticed I said Sworn not civilians. That means the Police Department has in its coffers money enough to pay for EXACTLY 13,500 police officers and thier salaries. So why doesnt the Chicago Police Department have 13,500 Police Officers? Why in the last 10 years the City hasnt been hiring Police Officers? What was the Police Department budgeted for 2011? Finally, where the fuck is that money budgeted for 13,500 Police Officers. If we are 2,500 Police short and the City has a hiring slow down, WHERE IS THAT MONEY THAT IS NOT BEING USED TO PAY FOR THOSE OFFICERS THE CITY HAS NOT HIRED TO BRING HE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO FULL STRENGTH? Sneed you have all the inside gossip within City Hall, please answer my questions.

Here are some comments from our wonderful leader at St. Sabina church.

The police can not arrest our way out of crime.

Everybody’s afraid of race. I am not afraid of race.

Slavery, Jim Crow, segregation, etc…. what do they all have in common? Government sponsored racism. Today, federal gun laws facilitate guns into our urban centers where are our black and brown children are getting killed. The NRA doesn’t like me, I am ok with that. These rich gun manufacturer owners are rich and live in private gated communities.

I am very disappointed with Supt. McCarthy. He is a joke. We need law and order in our city not EXCUSES.

I can't stand it. These "flash mobs" have nothing to do with the bad economy. Liberals will find an excuse for just about every type of bad behavior. Yes, I am so sure that these punks are using the money they get from selling these stolen Iphones to feed themselves and their families. They get a thrill from victimizing who they consider the "enemy", that being whites. It's so easy for the media and basically anyone who isn't a cop to romanticize what really happens in the ghetto. They take an African American history class in college and they think they understand what is really going on. Of course the cops who work in these neighborhoods for eight and a half hours a day couldn't possibly know better than Sneed, who sits behind a desk downtown.
I also love how they refer to downtown as "rich man's land". Last time I checked people of all socioeconomic status' frequent the area.

I agree, though. People are being killed for mere "e-waste," some piece of plastic. If you have the money to activate a phone in the first place, they'd just give you five or so as part of the deal anyway. Like free popcorn.

Ever switch on a stolen satellite radio with the account expired? Watch all of the former owner's station settings disappear as they are erased by the Big Computer the second an uplink is established. Now you have a plastic box that makes a "ssssssssssss" sound.

These are hate crimes -- but just make sure to take something from the victim and you'll be OK.

Retired CPD should be used to fill the inside desk jobs, Academy, etc; not on the front lines. Too many bosses girlfriends and buddies on their cushy non crime-fighting positions would have to be kicked to the streets though, so don't count on this happening.

Think about it this way, the City has 6 or more people to patch a hole in the street. How many times have you Coppers had 6 or more Cops to back you up on ANY suspicious call or In-Progress job? Couple that with your 2% raise. Isn't this enough proof that the LaSalle Street Kremlin (City Hall) really DOESNT give a flying fuck about you? They just want to work you like a Dog, and not hire, so they can spend Taxpayers Dollars on their "Progressive" ie. Communnist Agendas. Wouldn't doubt if it's being done deliberately so the Obama Regime has an excuse to institute their Citizens Security Force Obama has pledged, aka his Private Nazi-Type Brown Shirts.

Off Topic, but the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, who last week threatened to leave IL over the high tax issue, just put two of the three buildings in the CBOT complex at 141 W. Jackson (1.4 million square feet in total) up for sale, looking to lease back only 150,000 feet from the buyer.

Someone here mentioned that "we should not blame the victims" of flash mob attacks, that it should be OK to walk around talking/texting/listening to music.

Well, it is -- in an ideal world.

I saw a genuinely obnoxious cell phone commercial once, with some trendy twentysomething girl literally sashaying down a city street, talking and talking and talking on her cell, while all kinds of Peter Max-type flowers exploded around her, cars turned into bunches of balloons and floated away, groups of ducklings followed her, etc., all to the accompaniment of this really squeezy, dippy soft-serve music by some "Peter Bjorn and John."

The cell phone is a paradigm shift; many users no longer inhabit the real world, but live in a virtual construct. Physically they are here, but perceptually they are off somewhere with those clouds and ducklings, burning minutes. It's insulting in a way -- they won't even look at another person, and anything happening around them is simply irrelevant. The world just doesn't suit them anymore.

For the first time, I tried using a Walkman a little bit the other day while bicycling, and I couldn't do it, even on a quiet suburban side street. Five minutes was enough, and it was set real low on a news station. The first accelerating car I don't hear may well be my last. No thank you. I will stop next time if I want to check the weather or something. No problem.

...but then, I want to live.

Other people want to continuously talk, play games, send texts, zone out. They walk across busy arterial streets looking down at that little glowing thing -- hypnotized.

The police cannot always protect them from the consequences of these decisions.

Teachers and students who may be only two feet apart aren't even looking at each other anymore in the classroom. "One East Los Angeles teacher is embracing social media as a teaching tool...Enrique Legaspi, who teaches 8th grade at Hollenbeck Middle School, uses Twitter to engage his students. For example, in a discussion about World War I, his students answered questions on a Twitter feed using the hashtag "#WWI.""

This is crazy.

"If the city loses the lakefront to the flash mobs, there goes the economy."

There's the "tripwire" meme again.

The economy is already gone.

Example -- The Lake Street Elevated was not built to provide fast, frequent passenger service to glass-strewn vacant lots.

That whole area was a roaring manufacturing district. Dresden and Hiroshima and Nagasaki have all been rebuilt by now, but not this.

A wasteland -- what, will they hold rock concerts here too?

Why not hire retired police officers for part-time work and let them work a few days a week shoring up the areas that need protection?

Yeah....right.

Just what you want in a fast-moving action district: some old, over-the-hill-and-out-to-pasture retread.

Why would a retiree come back to push a beat car? Put his body at risk? Just to pick up a few dollars? And maybe a lawsuit?

Even to do paperwork. Can't displace a bid desk officer. A retired Detective working district desk would probably have to be trained. What would the pay be? $15-$20 /hr to do the paperwork he used to do for $35?

Would he be armed?
What if something happens at the desk? Even if he doesn't actively get involved, what if he/she is injured? Indemnification? Health care? Effect pension eligibility?

It won't happen. Most retirees, when they left, left because they had enough.

Off Topic: Glenn Beck Mentioned Chicago "Flash Mob" Crimes, and all the Violence/Murders occurring here.
It was refreshing to see a TV Station telling the truth. Unfortunately, he's unaware of the Lies and Bullshit Politics played by Daley and former Superintendent, and current Mayor and New Superintendent lying about crime, and attempting to hide this as Daley has done. Also what wasn't mentioned by Beck and unknown to him that we're down Police Manpower by almost 3000 Officers! Also unknown to the rest of the world is that Rahman lied and said he was going to hire 1000 Police Officers as part of his campaign. Instead, he and the new goofy superintendent have only shuffled existing officers instead of hiring new recruits! Chicago's problem have now gone National. So, now Scum-Times, and Lousy Tribune can no longer hide, lie, or distort the news when it comes to flash mobs and high crime in Chicago! Thank You Glenn Beck.

In the meantime, the wealthy Ryan LeVin will end up serving about two months in prison after buying his way out of 45 years for the drunken hit-and-run killing of two British tourists in Florida.

"LeVin admitted being behind the wheel of his $120,000 Porsche 911 Turbo when it jumped a sidewalk and killed Craig Elford, 39, and Kenneth Watkinson, 48, as they were walking to their hotel on Feb. 13, 2009.

"LeVin initially denied driving the speeding car and pinned the blame on a friend.

"He planned to serve his house arrest at one of two oceanside condominiums owned by his parents, Arthur and Shirley LeVin. There was a time when you could trust some of the stringers. You'd feed them stuff, and sometimes like with the Chicago Today paper, (yep) you'd give them a good photo and your kid's athletic team might land up in the sports page a few weeks later.
I can only imagine those days are long gone. If the papers were smart they'd get a person that wrote pro-police, and made a name and then got the good stuff because of that. They are not that smart, and probably it wouldn't sell anyways. This blog which my grandson showed me a while back is about the closest we'll get to the guys who would hang around and get stories. Its a shame. And Sneed I doubt anyone would want my ass back. I am nearly deaf, haven't run in years, but I still shoot a few times a year at the range. Doubt that skill would be tolerated. Besides in the summer I listen to the loons in Wisconsin, in the winter I watch the quail in Tucson and no amount of cash is worth doing much more. I don't know if I would have gone on the job today the way things are. Probably though because when I got out of the Army, it sure beat digging ditches, driving a bus, and nobody in my family were firemen so that was not a good way to go.

Way more kids being charged in juvie and held in custody .Seems to be a change in strategy with states attorney office and judges . Hold in custody pending trial and if case is no good, at least they were off street for a while. Also, if they're already on probation , it's easier to get them held on new stuff or violations. This is mostly true for the better judges . Have seen a few judges blow their tops when they hear kid has been arrested 20-25 times before a case ever filed for court. Also seeing more of the 17 year old misdemeanor kids being held.

That's the whole idea about being retired. When you retire you no longer have to deal with all this bullshit. What retired cop would want to deal with this bullshit?

6/13/2011 01:03:00 AM

It is sad to say, but many retired officers were forced off the job by age. There are a small percentage of officers still looking for side jobs and miss this work. I hate to see a 60 year old work the street but use them inside and take advantage of their knowledge. How many retired exempts actually retire? In fact how many retired officers are truly retired? Times have change in the last five years.

6/13/2011 06:39:00 AM

I am 60 and I work the street and I will at 61 and 62.

Rahm just announced a plan to put an additional 750 officers on the street. He will have the district desk call officers at home and in bed and order them to come in and hit the street.

Viola! 750 cops on the street in a flash! Each night they call a different district, 750 new cops on the street EACH NIGHT!

Wow, that Rahm Emanuel is a genius!

For Rahm's next trick he will drink soap suds and blow bubbles out of his ass. Really! I saw it once, Rahm is really slick that way.

Now do people finally start to see why mumbles was the way he was? This is why mumbles answered questions with confusing double talk bullshit or just muttered silly, silly, silly.

He had no need or desire to provide factual answers, he just babbled on and walked out. He had it all planned. Shortshanks was brilliant! And we all thought he was dumb, Hah!

Sneed is a toothless, panty-less cheerleader for the status quo...

She's spending a lot of time slobbering on the upturned buttocks of 9.5 so she won't have to don that brownish-orange wig and thigh high go-go boots with the run over heels and hit the bricks with the regular media whores.

We pray that we see the day when they're all revealed for what they are and what they truly represent.

Sneed and all of her ilk should be homeless, destitute and cowering for shelter under every fucking bridge over the South Branch of the Chicago River/Sanitary & Ship Canal from Cermak Rd. to points south & west.

And since when did that talentless hag and the other media talking skulls ever give two quick shits about the cares and concerns of Policemen?

They've demonstrated 22 years of not giving a fuck... Now they're so worried about "their" beautiful downtown & lakefront being lost to the "catered to constituents?"

Ride it... Then turn around and eat it... None of you humps have sweat and blood equity vested in this ungrateful, forest preserve shit-shack of a city. Let alone having to live here and see it destroyed/turned into a place unfit to raise a family before your very eyes in the span of a generation.

Chicago is a punch-line now. A minority of captive, working middle class people held hostage to support the rapidly replicating LINK card/"crazy check"/government hand out bunch.

Every retired Copper we know would rather bite a fat rat in the ass than be aggravated with the exercise in fuckery sneed is revolving her dentures about.

This smells like a trial balloon.

...Somebody put her up to this.

Somebody desperate to avoid having to deal righteously and fairly with the men & women of CPD.

A true sign of desperation when shit like this is flung against the wall to see what sticks.

How do these fools conjure this shit up and still sleep at night?

...Barnabas Collins style or hanging upside down in a cave perhaps?

Time for three fingers of old weller 107 & a dr. pepper...

*Clink* to all of ya who may have been there, done that, bought the t-shirt, won the stuffed animal and probably got the scars to prove it... And good sense to know they don't know it all.

It's just incredible that the mainstream media has succumbed to the propaganda put out by Rahm: that he is keeping his promise to put 1,000 more officers on the street not through hiring, but by changing their unit designations. 500 officers (who were already working the streets) are "transferred" to patrol where they will work the (same) streets.

That's like saying we have more journalists in chicago if move Sneed from her column writing and have her cover politics and gossip. she's already doing that for crying out loud.

remember that Rahm was elected by 20 percent of the eligible voters to get where he is (40 percent showed up to vote and he only needed 50 percent of that to win the election). we are like a third world country here when we say we have a democracy but we really have an autocracy that is essentially run by a small group of movers and shakers.

OT-

Janusz Kopycinski, the guy who yelled obscenities at Mayor Daley as Daley left office, is STILL being held on $100,000 bond on "felony charges," according to Channel 9.

The LeVins founded Schaumburg-based Jewels by Park Lane, a direct-sales juggernaut that relies on at-home sales parties and generates about $155 million in revenue annually..."

He's only come up here to Stateville at all to chat with the parole board, everything is all arranged already.

Busy man, and all that...

Who says money doesn't talk?

Before he struck and killed those tourists, he ran over a Chicago cop and caused a high speed chase. He was caught. This happened shortly before he went to Florida. He was only given probation for striking the cop.

He is a civilian. I'll bet a hundo that if he ever wears a uniform the beard will be gone.
The fact is that the police in this city, and I was one for 28 yrs, look like slobs. Not everybody. But VERY many. Worn out shit, dreads, sideburns, no hats, fifty different outfits, it is fucking sloppy looking.

It's a UNIFORM which means everyone looks the same. UNIFORM: all as one. If you don't believe me, next year at St. Jude take a look at the State Police. Then look at the CPD. Case closed.

Unless there are mass murders on the lakefront or near north side the media will either not tell the story or put it on page 47 of the morning paper. If no one tells the story on tv or the press then it didn't happen. Rahm: "Never let a crisis go to waste".

"LeVin was sentenced to two years of house arrest earlier this month after pleading guilty to two counts of vehicular homicide for the hit-and-run deaths of two British tourists in Florida. Though he could have gotten up to 45 years in prison, Broward Circuit Judge Barbara McCarthy agreed to a lighter sentence after LeVin agreed to pay the victims' families an undisclosed financial sum. Checks were given to attorneys for the families after the judge's ruling."

Buy your way out of prison.

Or maybe L.A., all cookie cutter the same.

What's the basic difference?

Many departments have a uniform commissary system. One style of this, that any everything. You get your issue uniforms when you come on the job and turn in your old stuff for new stuff (or reconditioned).

Take a vote and tell me what you think would pass; the commissary system or what we have now. If you are a CPD cop, tell me that you don't want what you get on the first of February, August and December.

Stay safe. Now if Rahm can figure how to make a buck for the right people on this you may get your wish.
