Disaster Alert

What brainiac thought this one up?
  • Just saw that Dave Matthwews Band Caravan is coming to play a 3 day festival on Chicago's lakefront on Jul 8-10.

    Awesome right?

Flocks of suburbanites will swarm to downtown and spend lots of cash, right?

    WRONG!

    It's at 8500 S. Greenbay Rd!!!
Why worry about the thugs coming downtown when you can just ship the victims right to their doorstep? And this isn't just a concert - this is supposed to be a full-fledged "festival" with tents and displays and side shows. The venue brags it has 30,000 parking spots and can host 70,000 people. At 85th and Greenbay Road.

Anyone got the over/under for smash-and-grab totals for this little shindig? Because we have a bad feeling about this one coming on the heels of what should be a very interesting year at the Taste.

Oh, yeah, the Rahm/Vanecko Cloutfest at 95th and the Lake. They're terrified of the flash mobs, and want to save the plate glass in the Loop, so they'll run this in slag-cocklebur-and-stuff-sticking-out-of-the-ground land, the old USS site.

I've no objection.

Just watch out for the packs of "rib dogs" running across the wasteland. They mean.

It will be all hippie wanna be kids and hipsters going to the show. Maybe this will turn out to be a good thing. They think they know everything about the beast and feel free to tell us how to do our jobs all the time, let them get some real world experience. Maybe then they'll shut up and let us be the police. I doubt it though. No matter what happens, the media will report that it was a peaceful event and a good time was had by all. Can't wait to hear the real stories on SCC.

LOL, how many clueless suburbanites will wind up driving down 79th st. The venue will probably have a ton of security. Getting to and from the venue is another story. Most problems will occur when the love your neighbor hippie types or the obama supporting liberals will cruise the ghetto, are stupid enough to stop and sample the local cuisine, or even worse decide to hang out at any of the lake front parks (rainbow beach or even calumet park) so they can brag to their friends that they hung out in the hood. But some will get lucky, the wolves will be so busy feeding on sheep that some are sure to get away. Good luck... It would be a good night to send some city wide unit over there,,, oh wait, never mind..

But Ald. Sandy Jackson says it'll all be fine.

Just watch out for those bubbly puddles, kids; Sandy says the site has been cleared of decades of heavy metals pollution. I'm thinking the Vanecko Pollution Removal Company might not have done a real thorough job of it.

If you glow in the dark after the concert, but you didn't buy any glo-sticks, that might be your first clue.

The Emanuel/Vanecko Music Machine.

Like the old "Kinetic Playground" where they invented the term "festival seating;" i.e., no seating. Takes up space. Grab the money at the door and jam as many of them in there as you can, quickly before the "security guards" pass out from swigging all the confiscated liquor.

"Look on the bright side, it's not like his tour bus can dump shit on anyone or anything that matters."

Great point; there really is nothing you can do to make the area worse...

First one in the crowd to find a dead body or skeletal remains, etc. in the underbrush gets a Miller Lite T-shirt.

As many as are steered there by their GPS. TomTom doesn't contain "DANGER - GHETTO" information.

They go into default/reset mode, "I'm not seeing this," both hands gripping the wheel and eyes straight ahead looking past the bucket boys flopping on the car, trying to ignore the bottles flying off the corner and the shouts of "YOU IN THE WRONG NEIGHBO'HOOD!"

This will be a good way to show off future prime lakefront property. The musical lineup is stellar. By following some of your posters logic,I should have been shot, raped, spindled and mutilated going to all those events at the Stadium in the 70's and 80's. There is nothing wrong with being alert and cautious. It is another thing to scare away potential city revenue. My hope is that the fine members of the CPD will do what they do best... Protect the citizens and visitors of this still good city.

Plus all the crap that can get stolen from hippie's car then pawned at pawn shops and resold on craigs list will increase revenue and money into the economy. And yes I agree as well, it's true at least the bus won't be dumping shit on anything or one that matters, enjoy your jagoff fest!!!

Very real -- my buddy in Pullman saw one trotting along a dirt road "back there" with a freaking human arm in its jaws, probably jerked and twisted off a stiff someone tossed out of a car.

"Missing people" are all somewhere...

Bad, bad place to get caught when all you can lay hands on is a railroad switch broom that God happened to leave leaning there, the kind that has a metal tip on the off end for chipping ice.

Believe me, you revert real fast in a 50,000-year-old situation. "Hmm -- I got LOTS of big rocks too..."

If you drove and parked in the right lot you were ok. Nobody took public transportation, there was nothing in the neighborhood for anyone to go to so nobody did go far, traffic patterns were all major streets which were usually covered and there was alot of shit that hit the fan if something went bad. All the white ushers would leave in a big group and catch a bus to the EL all at the same time afterwards, which should tell you something.
Face it though you are asking an apples and oranges question... Wirtz and Old man Daley were not Rahm and whoever the fuck is running this half assed idea of fun, and nobody was afraid of being Cozzied if they lit an asshole up.
