- Republicans said the measure would help people take control over their own safety, particularly because some felons obtain guns even though they're not supposed to have them.
"This is about allowing law-abiding citizens to protect themselves," said Rich Zipperer, R-Pewaukee.
Under the measure, weapons would be allowed everywhere except police stations, jails, courthouses, government buildings that screen for weapons and beyond airport security checkpoints. Weapons would also be prohibited in places where posted bar them, and also in specifically exempted sites such as Milwaukee's Summerfest music festival. The bill keeps the current ban on guns in schools in place.
In Illinois though, only the law-abiding are required to unarmed and victimized.

The number of illegal immigrants in Illinois has remained stable in the midst of the recession, bucking a national trend in which the number living in the U.S. declined as jobs dwindled, according to a study released Wednesday by the Pew Hispanic Center.
Illinois ranked No. 5 with an estimated 525,000 illegal immigrants in 2009, more than the approximately 475,000 in the state in 2008. The Pew analysts cautioned that their figures were based on a range of estimates, meaning that it is safer to say the Illinois illegal immigrant population was stable rather than to say it actually increased.
Nationwide, the total number of illegal immigrants has declined by about 1 million since 2007, to 11.1 million in 2009, representing about 4 percent of the U.S. population.

We don't know who they are or where they are from. The numbers are only estimates. Now imagine that just one percent of them are terrorist cells! That would be an estimates 5,000 in Illinois and over 100,000 nationwide.

Wisconsin already has open carry.
Felons can buy ammo in Wisconsin but can't buy a firearm or hunting license. So what is the point of allowing them to buy ammo? Maybe the state pols should address that loophole.

Once you leave Cook County you will find criminals actually going to jail for their crimes. Still no capital punishment however, you can get away with murder, just don't get caught slapping some piss bum in uniform.
Bill Cozzi is still in prison while burglars I have arrested have been convicted, sentenced, served less than half their their sentence and are now released.
As long as the Daleys, Madigans Burkes and others have government paid body guards for them and their families then we will be sitting ducks for the criminals and gangbangers. We have no one to blame but ourselves for this situation.

It is WAY past time Illinois passes a RTC bill. HB 148 is still alive and needs only 5 more votes.

Why do we not hear of ANY FOID charges with all of this gun crime??? I have to show my FOID card to even look at a gun in a gun shop or gun show. State Prosutors should use this charge to keep the ileagal gun user in jail for up to a year. Why is it not being used?????
It is a sad day, indeed, when law abiding, productive citizens who work hard and pay their taxes have to become "law breakers" by acquiring firearms to protect themselves and their loved ones. Our state and local politicians are the only ones in the nation now who forbid law abiding citizens to exercise their second amendment rights. Given the Hobson's choice between breaking the gun laws or staying alive and protecting family, morality and responsibility requires breaking the law. The gun laws are a farce because they are not enforced and result in a society where only the miscreants have weapons and are free to prey upon the unarmed. The voters in Illinois and Chicago should vote out any anti concealed carry pols so that the average citizen can protect himself without breaking the law.
Chicago F.O.P. could have supported concealed carry but chose not to, Just like the chicago democratic machine, Turds of a feather flock together.

Never mind we are the second biggest terrorist target after NY. The taxpayers money squandered, and the crime the "Sanctuary City" brings is enough to bring a sane man to scream enough!
When will the voters wake up to this travesty? When will the taxpayers vote as a whole and so "no more"?

You would think we'd all be pretty much behind the whole CCW thing by now? But I know plenty of guys on the job that have been more or less brainwashed since the Academy that citizens with pistols is the end of the world. They cling preciously to their own off-duty carry perk, but will vigorously deny that a regular Joe-Citizen should even be able to own a handgun, never mind carry it. These coppers are otherwise good guys, switched on, know what time it is, etc, but I just cannot make them see that the Second Amendment applies to all Americans, not just CPD. Perhaps some extra Constitutional Law classes need to be introduced into the Academy program.
How does the spokesman for the illegals, Congressrat Gutierrez, own 12 or more properties on that little federal paycheck? Where's the IRS when you need them?

The law breakers are those that enact and enforce laws that violate the Second Amendment.The Bill of Rights is the law of the land.We need a massive civil rights movement like that of the 1960s and stand up for your rights.

A Felon who has a gun illegally I guess he or she should be allow to legally buy ammo....and this great city of ours Chicago is much to populated to have every law biding honest citizen toting a gun,outside his or her house that is,much too difficult for the police ....just a thought!

I have to agree with many of the commentators on this blog and other blogs. Take away the police bodyguards/drivers for all of these politicians with the exception of the mayor and you might see some change. Who knew that the head of the CHA had two unmarked police cars and two police officers assigned to him as drivers? Not right. There are many police officers who are detailed out from the districts and other units as bodyguards/drivers who are not assigned to detached services and who do not show up in the numbers released by the city for officers assigned as bodyguards. As you can see, Rahm cut a deal with Burke and Burke keeps his detail. Take away the guns from the alderman and their right to carry concealed. Of course, Rahm is not going to do that.

For whatever its worth, it's just legal semantics.
Felons are already prohibited from possessing ammunition on the Federal level. If the US Attorney wants to make those cases, they absolutely can (and in many districts, they regularly do)
If they hang a real shithead for something and all they got is some ammo, they can defer it to the Feebs, where it is a felony offense.
