Cop Injured

Subject in custody:
  • Chicago police this morning were holding a motorist who they said struck a police officer after turning to avoid a traffic safety check and then took off.

The officer, assigned to the Near North police district, was conducting a traffic stop when he was struck by a Jaguar at about 2:10 a.m. in the 1500 block of North Sheffield Avenue in the city's Goose Island neighborhood, police said. The collision occurred in an area home to several trendy night clubs.

The officer, who WGN-TV said was a 19-year department veteran, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries to his legs, police said.
Best wishes to the officer for a rapid recovery.

FYI, shots were fired by the police on scene at the offenders vehicle. Unfortunately the officer missed the driver. Driver apprehended after car chase that ended in 009. Offender resisted arrest and is currently hospitalized. Gentlemen, congrats on a job well done!

The only cars that try to avoid roadblocks at 215am are DUI's. You hit a police officer wouldn't that make it aggravated DUI?

---not a cop

Friend, it would be an aggravated battery to a police officer with other dangerous weapon.
