0320 AM?
A 9-year-old boy was shot in the head in his backyard early Wednesday as he and his father went outside to bring in the family’s dog.
The 9-year-old boy and his father — identified by neighbors as Ivan Burns Jr. and Sr. — had finished watching TV and playing video games about 3:20 a.m. when they went into the yard of their home on the 0-100 block of East 100th Place to let the dog in for the night, police spokeswoman [...] said.
Gunshots rang out while they were outside, [...], and the boy was struck in the head. He was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn...
Nine-years-old and he's out at 0320 a.m. and he's out to "let the dog in..."? Shame on the shooter for one, but who the hell lets a nine-year-old out at anytime after 9 p.m?

Tell me about it. The other night in 010 on 16th and komensky they had a big ghetto fabulous party with hundreds of people celebrating some shitbird's death anniversary, right in the middle of the street. Took most of 3rd and 1st watch to break up at about 0100.
I lost count of all the 9/10/11 year olds pushing strollers, unattended toddlers, teens drinking from Dixie cups etc etc.
No, its OK, Fox News in the am said that it was OK to have the kids up at that time, SCHOOL IS OUT!

Saw the comments on Chicago Breaking News where the liberals were all about not wanting to question the "parenting skills" of the kid's daddy and calling anyone who did so a bigot etc.

Took a 50 minute walk last night through my neighborhood at 11pm. Saw no kids. Saw no moving vehicles. Saw 2 other adults walking the dog. You couldn't get 30 seconds in the ghetto without seeing kids under 10 out on a school night. How about this idea? Your kid gets 1 curfew your section 8 housing assistance, you're link card and your SSI all get reduced by 10% and 10% for each subsequent offense. I'm tired of working two jobs to support you and then coming to work and play daddy to you and your kids.

Please don't tell me that you are actually surprised that certain segments of our population don't know when a child should be in bed. I feel for the kid, but I don't know if it is because of the wound, or the idiot parents that were sending him down the path of antisocial behavior and/or gangbanging.

Although as outraged as I am that this 'father' had this kid up at 0300 hrs., I guess you have to give him a tiny bit of credit for even being a dad, although a piss-poor example of one.
Why is he up playing video games and watching tv with his "father" at 0320 AM? Oh that's right, his father doesn't work and he's on summer break being trained on how to not work when he grows up too. I mean why work when you can get free housing, cable tv, medical care, a link card, a cell phone, and a goverment check. Might as well play video games until 0320 AM when you can sleep all day.
But he was a good father spending time with his son-teaching him how to stay up all night and sleep all day. If you read the comments, those in the area think this is just fine parenting because they were spending quality time. Explains a whole lot about parenting concepts.

This is all normal behavior. In the ghetto kids from several months old to adults like to be up and about all night. Then when the rest of the world wakes up to go to work, they fall into bed.
As someone who has worked nightshift for years,you cant tell if its 3am or 3pm in many of these areas.This is normal.

Sorry, but that's part of the problem. This guy getting credit for being "present" is another symptom of the lack of responsibility today. A Dad does not play video games with a 9 year old at 0320, let alone allowing him outside. A Dad would have put him to bed hours earlier. Kid would have been better off had "Dad" not been there to keep him up with videogames.

Typical,maybe he was teaching kid "how to be a thug!" Surely now the taxpayers are now paying for all the kids hospital expenses because bet daddy does not work typical bullshit!

Fact is still this kid was not on 16th and Komensky, or out and about as another person put it. He was in his backyard. A neighbor in the paper said the bullet came from the street back towards the alley...so all that talk of the bullet was intended for the dad is only speculation. One, reports are the dad with with him. Two, if the dad wasn't with him...how was he an intended target? I aint defending his kid being up with him at 0320. I am saying a lotta youse guys on here got kids who are sneaking in your booze, in your porn stashes,they got their filthy mouths from you so you be be the first to know that one poor decision as a parent usually won't define you because we all make some bonehead mistakes with our kids. Every account you heard of this guy is that he's ALWAYS with the kid. They also listed his occupation in the paper. All this savages this and that talk is unnecessary...he sounds like a good dad whose kid got shot b/c he lives in Roseland. If you bring your kid home from a family vacay and carry him in the house at 0320 and God forbid he gets shot...you won't be saying it's because my kid was outside at 0320. The problem is that the one place the kid should be safe 24/7 was where he got shot.
I love the news article about this. The boy just moved in with the father, who is a hard working self-employed heating and a/c man. They were up, bonding, playing video games and drinking Kool-Aid, then they went outside to let Lassie in. What a joke.
He was probably trying to get an early start to get to the library. The lines of honor students starts early. I'm surprised none of you knew that.
