Copper Injured on Traffic Stop
- Police were looking for a 27-year-old Chicago man who fled a traffic stop on the West Side on Sunday and injured an officer.
Police say officers stopped the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee about 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the 100 block of South Kilpatrick Avenue for minor traffic violations.
One officer was talking to the male driver and another officer was talking to his female passenger, with the passenger-side door open, when the driver put the vehicle into gear and accelerated. The officer who was standing on the passenger-side was hurt.
Best wishes to the injured officer.

Some of our best and brightest citizens don't worry anymore about running over cops. This goes on all over the country. The police are just targets for their frustrations and anger. Back in the old days.....well those days are long gone.
Next time say, "Please turn off your car, take the keys out of the ignition and put them on the dashboard". One officer does the talking, while the other one watches out for everybody. Safety is number one!
Get well, brother.
Three thousand pound weapons can be more lethal than the ones with bullets. Be careful out there, people.
He had produced his ID before speeding away, so police know who he is.

Another genius who is going to go away for a few years over a traffic ticket.
Get well soon Kev, but not too soon!
Make sure you are healed properly--sometimes these injuries stay with you forever if you don't get them treated properly!
To next time say, thanks for solving that. Tell us what to do next.
It's a good bet this driver has no drivers lic, no insurance, probably not driving his car good luck catching him. And if they do some judge will let him off with probation and no fines.

This may work in the Academy or even the suburbs, but not Chicago.
Half the people we stop don't speak English.
Half have tinted or obscured rear windows, mutiple passengers etc. You can't see the dashboard.
What happens when Joe doesn't want to do as you command? Eventually you have to get out of the car.
If we did this stuff on every "regular" traffic stop we ALL would be down waiting for supervisors.
The ball is always in their court, We try to pick the playing field. These coppers did nothing wrong.

They know who he is. Reading comprehension isn't your strong point, I guess.

Maybe try it and then go from there. It could keep another copper from getting hurt. NEVER let them have any control. They did nothing wrong I agree but dont assume ya cant change it up a bit.
