North Avenue Beach Again

  • A father "had to fight" to get his 2-year-old child away from a man who tried to abduct the toddler this morning on North Avenue beach, and police said a person was in custody in the attack.

The incident happened shortly before 11 a.m. in the 1600 block of North Lake Shore Drive at North Avenue Beach, said Police News Affairs...

  • After wrestling the child away from the man, the father stopped a nearby bicycle officer and gave a description of the would-be abductor.

The man was identified by officers moments later as he attempted to leave the beach...
Seeing as how the increased police presence is centered on North Avenue, this was bad timing on the pervert's part. Frankly, we're surprised the beach was left open, what with all the heat and humidity. It's dangerous to be out near the cool lake waters in those types of conditions. And now it attracts kidnappers apparently.

The quick reaction and even quicker arrest is a credit to CPD as a whole - good job officers. Link

Pretty brazen for this moron to try and abduct a little kid on a crowded beach in daylight. Thankfully everyone responded and arrested the offender. Watch your kids!

This is every parents worst nightmare, having to fight for the life of their child in the face of an kidnapper or attacker.

Thank god the father was able to stop it, thank god there was a cop nearby who could give chase and take this miserable fucker down.

This is not a modern phenomenon. I was the subject of an attempted abduction when I was a kid. We are talking early 60s. I got away, and he got away from my father, who was large, an ex-professional boxer and Calabrian....

I favor summary justice for child molesters.

Kidnapping???

Did the kidnapper of "distinctive appearance" have an "exit strategy" with thousands of beachgoers and lots of police all around at midday?

Motive? What was the kidnapper thinking? Ransom demand? Sexual assault of a 2-year old male infant? Cannibalism?

Fast response by police to a mental. Barring admissions as to criminal intent, he will probably be charged with battery to which his public defender will successfully plead insanity.

I'm retired and never met this guy, but one look and I said here's a paper-jumping egomaniac, full of himself, clouted, Napoleonic complex, insecure bully who wears that shirt as a shield to tell everyone, "Look at me! I'm a big deal!"

I'm guessing he did some police work at some point but he looks like the kind of guy sits at home with his General Order on Department Awards and plots out his strategy on how he can obtain each of the next ribbons on the list and who he can get to add him to their list whenever someone IS being submitted.

How close did I get???

Just like animals in the wild, the predator human preys on the weak, old, sick and young. This animal walked off with its prey and the parent came to the rescue of his young cub.

Then, because the local government of communists has disarmed him, he had to run and find a police officer. Luckily, even though the communist government has failed to keep the staff levels of the police up and beaten those sill working down, an officer was nearby and able to take down the wild animal.

Welcome to the rules of the jungle, given to you by failed liberal policies that have replaced the rule of law and the United States Constitution that is supposed to protect your God given rights from these dictators.

Keep voting for these democrats, suckers.

I wonder when the judges and state legislators will realize a fact that is well proven in statistics and research; child molesters are incurable and should be locked up for life. They will be repeat offenders as soon as they are let out of confinement.

What a savage animal. And already a registered sex offender. Come on down to Chicago, folks! Our liberal judges and prosecutors have made sure that everyone's rights are protected from the evil police.

It's working out great, isn't it? We should pay the police less and hire fewer of them. We don't need them because cameras can stop the crime. Would a camera have made the arrest or just given a blurry image of the abduction?

It is not the job of the police to take action based upon the projected assumption of what may or may not happen in a court room many years from now. It is the job of the police to enforce the laws we have and not to stand aside and discuss possible defenses while a bad guy attempts to take a child.

The following things are clear from the comment you made:
1. You went to college.
2. You ate up all the legalese that has nothing to do with your job and you love citing this crap to prove some in depth knowledge of a job that you really know nothing about.

Leo got the majority of those medals when he worked the 012 district robbery team. His cousin (or aunt) was the liaison for the medical district and city services - specifically dealt with the police issues as the medical district was
A prime target for the mutts. Every time Leo made even the most menial arrest, she ensured she made him a hero and used her juice to get him every award that the city, police and UIC university and medical district had to offer.

It also helps when his father in law is a very very rich real estate broker and developer from the north side who has has the money, the juice and phone call to get Leo whatever he wants. His wife wants the status of being a police Lt but doesn't want the work, understandably she wants to be a mom- that's why Leo and not Ellen is an exempt

For those of you who weren’t there, it was GEU guys who made the arrest and Schmitz was on camera for that reason plus the fact that he was the highest ranking supervisor assigned to the beach. What you didn’t see was clout-hack Lt. MB from news affairs who orchestrated the press conference, and who was being paid OT to be there as she was dressed in her summer best and not to represent the department.

Bash Leo or anyone/anything else all you want, but being quick to judge based on what the media shows you is as wrong as when they sway public opinion to believe that the “victim” was a good boy, or that the beach was closed due to heat, etc. etc. etc.
