Knee Deep in Dead Bodies

  • A drastic cut to an Illinois program that pays for funerals and burials for the poor drew protests Tuesday from a group of Chicago pastors.

Pastors United for Change said the program pays funeral homes and cemeteries when families on public aid can't afford the cost. It pays about $1,100 for a funeral and about $500 for a burial.

The Rev. Ira Acree of Greater St. John Bible Church in Chicago predicted "a national embarrassment" if funeral homes are forced to turn away families and bodies pile up "in President Barack Obama's home state."

Chicago in general and Illinois specifically are already a national embarrassments, seeing as how democrats are giving money to wealthy corporations and democrats are attacking union contracts. It's like living in bizarro world.
  • Quinn responded Tuesday that he believes everyone deserves a decent funeral and he'll look at the budget to see what can be done.

Quinn's budget had proposed cutting the program to zero. The version approved by the House and Senate cut the program to $1.9 million, from $12.6 million in the last fiscal year.

If you're dead, you probably don't care about a funeral, no matter how much Quinn thinks you "deserve" it. We don't recall any such provisions in ordinance, law or government document. And if you were a recently deceased muslim or Lutheran, would you even be caught dead (pun intended) having a Make Believe pastor presiding over your funeral?

How about all the unclaimed and unknown bodies be logged properly for possible future identification, then they all get cremated to save on morgue storage, coffin construction, transport, grave digging and burial. Same for the "can't afford it" crowd.

This "cradle-to-grave" welfare, literally, has to stop.

Bill Curtis from CBS Channel 2 News while reporting on the story said, "someone has to pay for these funnerals, people in this time of grief shouldnt be worrying where they are going to get the money to pay for the funeral". Fucking liberal media, I hate them almost as much as WHORE DEFENSE ATTORNEY's, how do you sleep at night knowing you help people get away with murder?

I'm so sick of it. Why bother with employment when EVERYTHING can be had for free? Oh that's right: pride and respect for others. You have it or you don't.

Cremate them, scatter the ashes in Lake Michigan, then cite that as a reason for beach closures.

Where's that? Kenya or Hawaii?

Anyway, things are pretty much like that as it is out in that cemetery in Alsip where whole sections just...well, disappeared.

I see that "national embarassment" Rev. Ira Acree has himself reappeared. Last time we saw him he was in and out and in and out of Blagojevich's place, trying to cut a deal for that vacant Senate seat...

Fire up the incinerator at Chicago and Tripp. The remains could then be given back to the family in a mini blue recycle bin. A momento of another Daley failed program that cost taxpayers millions. If the f*cking city and county weren't so f*cking corrupt we would be paying nothing in property tax just like Rosemont.

I just had to cough up money to bury a non-working irresponsible relative. Throw them in potter's field or cremate them. The freebies are coming to an end! There is no more money to appease freeloaders. If the economy gets any worse, feed them to the sharks.

Funerals are more for the living then for the dead. When you are dead, not only do you not care but you will never know what happens.

Keep it respectful as it was once a human being.

However, it was a criminal, gang banging thug waste of space and oxygen slime of the earth etc. Then I say just dig a hole and throw the pos in there or just do a mass cremation...whatever is the cheapest form of disposal.

We give them free housing so that they can breed. Then we give them free WIC to buy baby formula and diapers.

They get free hospital service and medical coverage. They get free education that they turn their backs on.

They get free cell phones. They get free food and free money off of the LINK card for any "extras" like cigarettes and lottery tickets.

They even get SSI for being stupid, or learning disabled. When their lifestyles of thug behavior catch up, we cover the cost of surgery, hospital stays and wheelchairs.

Now we have to bury the thugs that don't survive. When the fuck will this bullshit end?

I agree but it's never going to stop as long as these losers are able to keep voting. You can see how quickly Quinn caved in on this shit. He doesn't want to lose the votes of all the welfare collectors which clearly must have greater numbers than the working class at this point.

Ira Acree. What a race baiting, pot stirring, store bought reverend POS. I know him having met him a few years ago. He wants absolutely nothing to do with the white man or the Police because he views us as a threat to his kingdom. He wants nothing to do with anyone that he thinks may do something positive in his community that would divert attention away from him and cause his "flock" to abandon him. His "flock however is to stupid to realize that it's not all about them or the "church", that it' really all about him and him alone.

You can't eliminate the casket makers, the grave-diggers (they now
use a back-hoe) the embalming fluid
makers, and all the the other people associated with the funeral
industry because if you throw them
out of work, guess what happens,
they'll end up collecting unemployment compensation or public aid and the Poverty Pimps
that call themselves " reverends "
would have to get " real " jobs.
And your idea of cremating all bodies to save time, space, and money is a great idea, but would you really want the dearly departed
to " burn " twice ? Once in the
retort and again in Hell ?

Whatever happened between separation of church and state? With all due respect for the deceased and family, why should I pay for something that I don't expect for myself - or have my own family pay for? In a civil society, we don't push our values onto others by having them pay for them.

Use the bodies - if someone's family is too indigant (sp?) to pay $1000 for a funeral or $500 for a burial, just turn the body over to a university for research.

I would say harvest the organs for donations, too, but really, with the high rates of Hepatitis in the ghetto, I wouldn't want to run the risk of putting someone's infected (name your organ) into a normal person.

How about this: Everyone who thinks it's important (church members, pastors, funeral homes, cemeteries, community organizers...) donates to a fund to pay for the funerals. If they're not willing to donate, maybe it's not that important after all.

Bodies piling up in barry obamas home state! the state and city where he does not give millions to,that would protect it's citizens! When Bush was in office (Do you miss him yet?), Texas was flush with cash but barry has not apparently given us anything why? Barry should give us millions to help us hire more police, and how about it Mr president shore up the pension funds in your home city/state!

I can see paying for a burial. That's necessary, and it's going to fall to the state no matter what if the responsible parties don't do anything.

But a funeral? Does that include flowers? A few nice words from the pastor?

And why is the state paying for religious services anyway - I thought there was some of that separation of church and state going on here in the US, no?

Ya gotta love those Illinois lawmakers.

You know with all these education cuts and teacher layoffs there's a concern that students test scores reflecting the students ability to communicate in-writing may suffer.

The Illinois Lawmakers have the answer!

===

[...]

Lawmakers eliminated the writing evaluation for high school juniors in the budget Quinn signed into law last week. The move is aimed at saving $2.4 million as the state continues to grapple with money problems. The tests for elementary and middle school students were eliminated in a cost-saving move last year

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/politics/clout/chi-quinn-lawmakers-should-reconsider-cutting-state-writing-test-20110707,0,7961660.story

Can you believe it? The taxpayer pay these guys hard earned money to make decisions like this.

Let's save the $2.4 million we spend on the kids and the future of this community and so that we have money to give to Sears as a tax break under the guise of saving jobs..

Man-oh-man the political stupidity is immeasurable.

Let see how that plays out when the next generation of WalMart workers are all we have to generate tax revenue for city services and to fund social security and medicare and things like that..

Deduct money from all their freebees (LINK, section 8, WIC),etc. to save for their funeral fund. Taxpayers have to put money aside for this or pay insurance premiums, why shouldn't they? If the Revs don't like this, they should pay from their "congregation". Perhaps the revs could start the ball rolling by refraining from buying a pimped out car every year. Why does he taxpayer have to foot everything?
