Bodyguard Detail to End?
- Sooner or later, Mayor Rahm Emanuel must sit down with Ald. Ed Burke, 14th, and retired King Shortshanks and tell them the bodyguard party is over.
Emanuel has done well in office so far, and though it's been only six weeks, the six weeks have gone rather smoothly for him.
Smooth is a relative term seeing as how the superintendent has run interference on the gun issue and the head of the schools is picking a union fight.
But what started out as a poke at Burke over Burke's backing a residency lawsuit against Rahm has taken on a symbolism of its own and both parties are eager to get back to sticking it to the taxpayers, breaking the unions and enriching themselves and cronies with connected contracts.
We're betting the bodyguards are reduced (or gone) by fall.

How is one going to justify cutting 650 city workers while preaching "everyone should have some skin in the game" -- letting this waste of manpower go on?
Let 'em call 911 and sit in the backlog like everyone else if they need security.
What kind of judges do we have here anyway. To order 24/7 protection for a grown man and ignore the needs of taxpayers children getting shot and raped at the playgrounds.
Why hasn't our judges ordered 24/7 protection for these kids? This culture of privilege needs to end.

Removing Burke's butlers would be largely symbolic. You can bet not one of them would ever land in a district. Just like Shanks ex butlers all went to either mass transit,the airports or intelligence.

We have judges that were appointed by the criminal Daley and told to do his bidding. How do you think they were able to rob the city and not face justice?
Why was Chicago's court system almost shut down under Operation Greylord? It's a broken and corrupt system. Read some books about the history of that crime family. You might be surprised what you find.

Speaking of a complete waste of time and why we are always in a RAP, OEMC took this call and dispatched it Thursday night. A women called and stated she was sitting in her car and was afraid to continue driving because of the hail. The noise that the hail made hitting her car scared her. She wanted the police to come and take her to a safe place. The Sgt. coded it out. But the point is OEMC took and dispatched the call.
Gone? They should be. The only threat they face is being like the rest of the citizenry. Bodyguards? They are nothing more than glorified valets.
I really am surprised that a copper would subject himself to this humiliation. I was asked a long time ago and didn't have to think twice. NO!
Actually drive you own car? A car that you actually paid for? Get a driver's license? Pay for gas and maintenance on the car? Insurance? Pay to park on the street or in a lot and walk two blocks to the restaurant or office? Have someone fetch my dry cleaning or go grovery shopping for me? Drive me to my summer home in Lake Geneva or Grand Beach/Pick up my wife and take her to appointments? Drive my kids around? Hold my coat? Are you kidding? Don't you know who I am? Those things are for you, the sucker tax payer.

Then in 020 you have The Earl of the North Side, the one and only Ald. O'Connor. Who, on many Fridays conducts his wine & horse-shoe party in the local park! No enforcement here, but what about Joe Schmoe walking from his kitchen job, or the "Immigrant" from "South of the border" with a can of beer in a brown bag! Enforcement there! I guess these Alderman are of the Irish Gentry!
It's amazing that these clowns are both very very wealthy and still take from the tax payers pockets with city cars, fuel, and expensive chauffeur's(I mean police bodyguards). Burke has been robbing the taxpayer's for 30 years just to get chauffeured around by police officers. The funny part is he carries a gun, So why the need for police body guards? He just wants to look like a big shot and have servants.
Can you imagine Maggie Daley having

Would be interest to know just how much in dollars and cents Burke's detail cost the taxpayers over the years. We would probably be shocked.

Factual information to be assigned a "security specialist" you need no special skills,just attend a 1 day class by the secret service and read a packet of materials ta da your promoted! Bottom line if your connected you get this easy,unlimited overtimes,new cars,extra duty availability checks assignment. "Don't hate the valet hate the royalty."

I know of at least three superintendents who should be guarding mumbles along with Keating, Little Tommy, Masters Masters Masters and any number of other suckhole bosses.
why does the mayor's detail of eleven officers need its own commander? seems like a bit of a waste of taxpayer money at $154,934 a year.

I got a plan, how about just getting a bus man it with 1 uniformed, radio equiped, on duty police officer. Then Daily, Burke, Neeley, Santos and of course Rahm any other requesting city politician can call for a ride for them and their family. Only one bus city wide. First come is picked up first then the bus could swing around and pick up the other pols. They can talk old times and cut new deals and make Blagoyavich jokes. Only 9 POs needed city wide to cover 24-7.

Are you new or just dense?? Police dispatcher's don't get to say "no" to sending the police like the fire side. Fire can decline to dispatch. If "joe-blo" requests the police dispatch is "required" to send them. But while on the topic of Sgts coding jobs how about the idiot sergeant on days in 008 that codes everything out as soon as it's dispatched. Hate to be a copper that lives on the west side of 008 cause all those calls are being "19-Pauled".
Got a great idea for reality television with the profits being used to reduce Chicago's budget deficit.
Each politician whose bodyguard detail is removed would ride the Blue line alone. Or take a stroll along one of our beautiful boulevards alone. Or wait on a corner in January for a CTA bus alone. Or do any of the everyday functions which all of us do alone.
Film it, get close ups of their faces as they see the city as it really is. I think it would be a hit, don't you?

Ald. Burke was a Chicago Police Sergeant before his old man died and he inherited the ward throne. He carries a gun so why can't he just protect himself? I would bet most of our city aldermen drive themselves around. The old days are over Eddie.

Bodyguards aren't all they are cracked up to be. Two CPD officers were watching Sam Giancana around the clock and he got whacked in his kitchen anyway. No one heard a thing.

A 'Classic' explanation!
I wonder if Burke has been allowed to pay into the police pension all of these years and is eligible for his sergeant's pension? He does say he is a " retired police sergeant". Many people with clout in the past have been given the privilege of continuing their pension payments when they were " on leave" to another type of law enforcement, and the aldermen do consider themselves as peace officers.
The officers assigned to dignitary protection detail, unit 542, probably do not care if Burke or the mayor does not talk to them or they have to drive them or their wives to the summer homes.During their time on the detail they get sergeant's pay, a monthly clothing allowance, they never use medical days or their comp time and when their boss is out of town, they have more time off. In addition, when they retire, they get a pension based on sergeant's pay. Not bad, huh >??
wtf.. they should have to pay..these bloodsucker...there no reason for them to for tax payer to foot the bill..

It gets better daleys detail also has a COMMANDER for what 8 guys? He has another title code thanks to keatings influence but still the $160,000 per year and take home car! NICE!!
