A 16-year-old boy drank vodka, smoked marijuana and took ecstasy before he stole a car and crashed into a 911 police dispatcher, killing her as he tried to elude officers, Cook County prosecutors said Monday.
Preliminary tests showed that Marquis Harrison’s blood-alcohol level was .186 — more than twice the .08 legal limit to drive — following his arrest Sunday morning,Minutes before Adkins was hit, Harrison stole the Range Rover while the 45-year-old owner of the SUV fed a parking meter box on North Michigan Avenue, Costello said.
The motorist had left the Range Rover running when Harrison, who told police he drank and took drugs at a party, jumped in, Costello said.
Harrison was previously sentenced to probation as a juvenile for two counts of possession of a stolen motor vehicle in Kane County, Costello said.
He is an honors student at Urban Prep Charter Academy and plays football and basketball, assistant public defender Preston Collins said.

At all the Catholic High Schools that I know about, there is a decent percentage of Honor Students that do drink a bit too much.

It's not a big stretch, SCC. As a teen, I attended a prestigious Catholic HS in the Chicago area. The
guys with the highest GPAs were always the ones
you'd hear doing or dealing drugs, stealing or disappearing with Daddy's Jag for an entire weekend, etc. So this doesn't surprise me at all. Plenty of so-called 'future success stories' walking around out there seeking various thrills, no matter how dangerous. And you know what? Oftentimes, we as cops as the enablers, because many times when we find out the 'backgrounds' of these little darlings after they wind up in the back of a squad, we'll often help by cutting them a whole lot of slack, when maybe what they really need is an overnight stay in the crossbar hotel to straighten their asses out.
I went to Morgan Park HS with Mae Jemison and she was an honor student and then was an astronaut. She must have been an "old school" honor student.
All of a sudden this individual is an addition to the contributing part of society?

The information on what he did in school isn't appropriate. School is out. Why do they always build up the bad guy as he's not a bad guy. How wbout just reporting on what he did. This kid could have killed many more. He put every officer and citizen he passed in danger. He stole a car. He uses drugs. He drives drunk. He is a criminal. No one is safe with anyone having behavior like this. Now this criminal should pay for his actions. And who cares what he did or didn't do at school, home, neighborhood, church, and sports. The media needs to focus on why he made the news. He was out of control and killed a working person, how about the fact that he killed a person trying to make the world a better place by doing the right thing, living a clean life and making the world a better place by going to work every day.

I went to an all-girl's Catholic high school in the Detroit suburbs, and geez, we knew Latin, but we also were sneaking into bars on the weekends.

Isn't there some law that says you cannot leave a car unattended while running? If so, I hope he gets charged with that.

Whitney Young graduate here. YES that Whitney Young! Let me tell you, we had more gangbangers,alcohol/drug use and promiscuity than some regular schools. But P. Collins, M. Renz and all the other upper admins kept it on the hush-hush because we were honor students and as such could do no wrong.
I graduated in 1988. Some of the honor students routinely did lines of coke.

You sir, have read my mind. Without this dumbass leaving his Range Rover unattended while running, this whole incident wouldn't have occurred and the poor innocent victim would still be alive. Isn't there some law that says you cannot leave a car unattended while running? If so, I hope he gets charged with that.

Yes the owner was stupid for leaving the car running, but I'm sure we have all done it at some point. (warming it up in the winter, starting the car then run in the house quickly after you have forgotten something etc.). Lets keep blame where this death belongs-on the shitbag who was a high, drunk, criminal thief, who led the police on a chase that ended in this woman's death. You almost sound like the media and the liberals passing blame on everyone except the CRIMINAL.
Go easy fella's ! He may turn out to be an aldercreep that gets him a set of valets to drive/escort him around. Then he can drink all he wants.
Hopefully some good can be salvaged out of this tragedy. Unfortunately as a minor he won't serve any time. Maybe they will require mandatory community service where he has to go around to high schools (until the age of 25 or something) telling others (high school students)of his mistakes and pain he caused others and what not to do. Sounds a little Disney but maybe something positive can be generated from this horrible tragedy.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the deceased.

The information on what he did in school isn't appropriate. School is out. Why do they always build up the bad guy as he's not a bad guy. How wbout just reporting on what he did. This kid could have killed many more. He put every officer and citizen he passed in danger. He stole a car. He uses drugs. He drives drunk. He is a criminal. No one is safe with anyone having behavior like this. Now this criminal should pay for his actions. And who cares what he did or didn't do at school, home, neighborhood, church, and sports. The media needs to focus on why he made the news. He was out of control and killed a working person, how about the fact that he killed a person trying to make the world a better place by doing the right thing, living a clean life and making the world a better place by going to work every day.
Who cares what grades this guy got. He failed in the real world.

Well, this asshole did not make the 'honor roll' for his skill demonstrated in Drivers Ed Class. That much is known!
For CPS- if you show up and don't stab anyone in the school building itself, that month, and not have that act get recorded on camera: You are officially an honor student.
Public defender and the comments made: Typical attempt to spin the life of the criminal as anything but what it was prior to the crime this bum was caught for doing.
This shit head can be an 'honor student' behind bars for decades to come. Top of his class!

Did mom call the police to report a missing kid or was this kid so far out of control that she just gave up? What WAS he doing in that area so early in the morning and high no less?

Honors students are different from honor students. If you take "honors classes" then you're an honors student. Generally that means your classes are more demanding and you may get more grade points toward your gpa. Nobody said anything about him passing those classes. Just cuz he tested into them doesn't mean anything.
