Instead of saving money on salaries it appears they (aldercreatures) have arranged a way to waste more of our tax dollars on providing valet service's to self important psuedo-royalty. It's a shame that some of these goofs (daley & burke families) have not learned how to wipe their butts and other essential things that most folks learn in early childhood.

I realize this is off topic, but kind of related (as far as jobs in the CPD), Disclaimer: I'm not a cop. I read in another recent thread here on SCC that Chicago no longer has a dedicated auto theft unit?!!?

I happen to find this appalling. I've always enjoyed owning nice cars and have had a three stolen from me (two were tow truck thefts in store parking lots).

The fact that a city the size of ours- with such a significant presence metals recycling- doesn't have a dedicated auto theft unit is just disgusting. What is even more sad is reading over the comments and how many of the skills those detectives had developed over the years are endangered of going extinct and not being passed on to a new guard of officers.

Is there anything in the works to bring this unit back? I realize one mans opinion doesn't really 'matter', but is there any way I can voice mine to the department? Should I write a letter, or something?

So they all keep the free cars and free manservants and free city gas and free butlers/gofers. WHY?????

Now we can watch all of these body guards retire so they can collet a second check in retirement, which will obviously mean NONE of them will return to patrol.

Way to go, Rahm. You just made it worse!

Does anyone think that "certain retirees" were given the heads-up ahead of time so that they were the only applicants that had a chance to put in for this spot?

So, who loses out on this? As usual, NOT the politicians, but us tax paying schmucks!

And as posted in the thread on the bike run--yes, expect to be wearing a tiny camera on your shirt soon.

Coppers in one podunk town actually thought it was a good idea...although it seemed like all they did was write tickets, so it was to their benefit in traffic court.

Seriously, I was stunned when I found out a W/C (here) can tune in to the squad car and overhear conversations between the officers.

WTF? So you leave the W/C all pissed off about something, want to vent to your partner, and the W/C can 'tune in'? Or did I misunderstand?

If true, I'd learn sign language pretty quick.

First, thank you for paying attention and realizing what happened was a travesty.

Second, yes, write a letter. Write several letters. To the ballerino, McStupe, your alderman, the city council, anyone you can think of.

Thank you again for realizing what we lost.

Funny story--when I first went to the unit and was taken on a field trip by one of the old guys to one of the junk yards, the owner of the yard had a bunch of his trucks named after the auto dics--had their names painted on them.

Ah, the good old days. If I could remember half of what they taught me, people would think I'm just whip-smart.

I miss all the mud. For some reason, every yard I ever went to was at least ankle-deep mud.

A true sign you'd earned your chops was carrying your boots around with you.

Please write. There are still some guys out there with a lot of knowledge, both young and old.

Sadly, the old-timers are all gone.

They did have awesome parties and golf outings!

One last thing about the A/T Unit.

They decimated personnel to the point that at the end there were maybe 30 (or less of us left)spread over 3 watches. Investigations went downhill because we just didn't have the manpower.

At one point I heard the unit was 150 strong--that's what we need again.

But the city only wants to focus on gangs, guns and drugs. Consider it an insurance crime, no big deal.

These new rules for "private" security will probably drive up the cost of the present valet/gofer program. Now there will probably be many more "specialist" added to give even more pompous politicians free cars, gas, and a sense of impoprtance. So many are out here in the vast economic wasteland just trying to make ends meet. When will this rip off stop? Just how the hell do we send a message to these fat cat politicians that the free rides are over. Perhaps a line by line cost of each person receiving this special treatment and the true cost in dollars and cents. Have the city give us the truth!

Write a letter detailing your concerns. Mail it from your new address in the suburbs. There is no logical reason to live in what is fast becoming Detroit.... If the city doesn't take car theft seriously can you imagine what else is ignored? We can't even keep flash mobs out of much ave stores, and you are surprised that the detectives don't devote time to autos? I share your disgust! If only I could share in your right to move out of the city without being fired!!!!

The BIG question is: why are taxpayers providng security to anyone retired off the city payroll (Daley and clan) and alderpeople who can conceal and carry?
Now Rahm, "everyone has to sacrifice" is just changing the title of the person doing the armed body guard service, from a sworn officer to a specifically chosen individual who retired from the CPD to their "new spot" that happens to be another patronage job.Chicago politics as usual. sickening.

well if you were a cop you would realize that the auto theft unit was a complete joke filled with do nothings. Back in the day there was a real auto theft unit that had auto theft dics assigned to it and they were the real deal... then the unit got turned into a unit of inside people who got to go out and play police a few days a week and had no clue what they were doing. its a waste of time and manpower. If the unit came back and had dedicated auto theft dics on it who actually had time and experience on the job then it might be worthwhile...

Yes, please write a letter or email to the mayor and your alderman and make it a strong one. But not just to get the Auto Theft Unit back, we need police back in our neighborhood. We need to hire police and do it now.

Didn't it occur it occur to anyone else that this Praetorian Guard for the politicians was going to be their own private police force.

They were not going to care about the rest of us because they could have a cop sitting in their living room 24/7 or outside their house in a city car.

They wouldn't care so much about the price of gas because we would be paying for their limo service.

Stay safe, we should all be writing letters, and demanding responses. Register and vote!

If that could be done with the Dash Cam mike it would be a big violation of the eavesdropping law. Just be careful of open keys on your radio mikes there have been some real doozies over the years with those.

I blame the bodyguards for holding coats and opening doors. They should have their hands free to draw their weapons if necessary, not providing valet service.

Ed's valets probably lay out his underpants in the a.m., and help him into them one leg at a time. Seriously, how can you have any self-respect doing a job like that?

Sorry, but those cops will be OK. If people get splashed because of the third world condition that Daley left the streets in, and they have been listed online as among the worst in the world, then they should go and picket his home.

If I'm driving and hit a pot hole filled with water, it's going to splash. Sorry if you're in the way, but that's city living in Daley's sanctuary city paradise.

I don't give a shit what IAD does to try to crucify cops. Any good lawyer can get them off for something that is the city's fault to begin with.

Editorial in Scum Times about thugs getting splashed is PRICELESS! This idiot liberal reporter is such a huge moron it's hard to believe that it's a real article and not something out of the Onion.

You have to read it to believe it and then you will understand why it's true that liberalism is a mental disease. Even the picture is funny! A total thug!

Hell I would've done it for free for an MP5 and a little coiled wire ear thingie.

The REAL DEAL said

Let me tell you about those ear thingies. They suck. I used to use one occasionally when out on OPS with SEALS or DELTA. They would go bad all the time. I'll tell you what they're good for. When I was on Burke's detail many years ago, I was driving him somewhere I can't remember right now. Anyways, he was being a real pain in the balls this particular day. Snapping and barking at every little thing. By midway thru the day I had enough. I stopped the car, got out, opened his door and smacked him one. Then I yanked my ear thingie out, wrapped it around his neck and pulled him out of the car before smacking him again. After which I pulled out my MP5 from the inside of my trench coat and sprayed the car. Needless to say, that was the end of my "security specialist" detail. I was gladly back in patrol. Until next time,be safe.

The REAL DEAL

"I realize this is off topic, but kind of related (as far as jobs in the CPD), Disclaimer: I'm not a cop. I read in another recent thread here on SCC that Chicago no longer has a dedicated auto theft unit?!!?

I happen to find this appalling . . . ."

The Auto Yheft Unit has been gone for ten years or more. I guess the mob wants to keep CPD away from their wrecking yards.

More alarming to the citizens of Chicago is the fact that mayor daley not only disbanded the Auto Theft Section, but more recently got rid of the Gambling Unit as well as completely decimating the Bomb & Arson Unit. Under mayor daley the total number of Chicago Police officers has dwindled from 14,500 to 8,500 in the last fifteen years. Now does this make any sense? It does if you are a member of organized crime (the mob).

Now why would mayor daley get rid of all these investigative bodies of the Chicago Police Department?

Maybe daley believes that the City of Chicago is unique among all other large metropolitan highly populated urban areas, and does not have a problem with auto theft, gambling or arson for profit which we all know are rackets of the mob.

Now why would daley make it easier for the mob to operate in Chicago? That is the BIG question all the investigative reporters as well as the FEDS should be asking daley and his merry band of crooks. Patrick Fitzgerald where are you???

Jackson has not had CPD guards in some time, maybe 10 years. However, he has had, fairly recently, Cook County sheriffs as body guards. They even accompanied him out of the country. I really do not know who guards him at this point, and i really do not care. These pompous assholes should not have any bodyguards. They allo think they are rock stars.

So all the Private Detail PO's just filed for retirement and then applied for the new Jobs?

+++++++++++++++++++++++

according to the now closed requirements under the job description, you had to be retired for two years to apply. Yea, I'll bet.

The reason these assholes get sharked in the first place is because they throw all their garbage in the street which clogs the sewers. Fuck them.

Tell that jag reporter to drive around 009 and 007. It looks like Haiti.

Re: Auto Theft Unit

I am a daley hater and do believe all the conspiracys. But in this case it was solely supt cline who wiped out auto theft. It was a unit he never liked. He felt those detectives were not working detectives. It was personal.

What a stupid fucking illogical reaction...

Hey! Rumor has it, a particular investigative unit is dog-assing... Instead of taking measures to address the operational culture of that unit, I'll just disband it!

So now, we have a few dogs who got shuffled off to some other position, retired away, and the millions of people in the city of Chicago are left without an auto theft unit, because there once were some dogs in there.

What a fucking retard.
God, I hate the assholes that run this department.

Ummmm....read that again...

it's retired TWO YEARS OR LESS...

and... being able to PASS AN ANUAL P.O.W.E.R. Test.

The politicians want to create their own Secret Service styled private police force. Answerable to whom, no one but themselves. They will care even less about the citizens because they will not need the CPD.

Ask anyone who works in hospital insurance billing about their health coverage. On the surface it may look like any other city employee's, but there are no problems with their medical bills.

Next they will probably want their own private fire department and EMT service, all paid by us of course.

Sorry 5:18 pm. Cline was Chief of Detectives when Auto Theft was disbanded (Whoops. I mean "decentralized").That idea came from then Superintendent Hillard. Not personal, just uninformed.

It is funny that everyone on this site goes the full distance to criticize the Police Security Specialist and then as soon as the spot becomes available a shit load of people apply. More hypocrisy.

7/10/2011 09:26:00 PM

Yawn. This must be your first time reading a blog on this new idea called the "Internet". You are very wise, and I'm sure nobody on this blog will ever be hypocritical ever again due to your keen observational skills. I can't believe we stooped to that level to offend you. Tell us that you will forgive us. Please?
