Curfew Nonsense

  • Three aldermen are proposing an earlier curfew for children under the age of 12.

The goal is to get unsupervised children off the streets earlier in the evenings and out of harm's way.

Well, if the stories are to be believed about the nine-year-old getting shot, he was under the direct supervision of his father when he was out at 0320 AM getting the dog and catching a bullet. So this law wouldn't mean diddly-squat.

But hey, if the aldercreatures can attempt to regulate foie gras, transfats, and every other thing under the sun, why not try to regulate how badly people can raise their offspring? It's not like they're actually solving problems anyway.

Why not stop all the ghetto kids from going out! Keep the thugs in the house, would be prep for them going to prison in the future! Enough nonsense, how about a curfew for aldermen?

Rhamster better plan to hire a lot more kiddie cops if he plans to enforce this curfew. The new Alderwoman who came up with this dandy must have had a nightmare and woke up during the council meeting. A really good one was from the other new Alderpire who wanted to jack up the cost of city stickers unless you owned a hybrid car. We can hardly put gas in our old cars let along buy new one. I have always wanted Aldercreatures drug tested every couple of months. They all act like they are stoned most of the time.

The administration in Washington just sign the act to allow Mexican trucks to deliver in the US. The will be a diaster for the trucking industry and should cause some problems in enforcement.

For Christ's sake people, he was with his dad, in his house, on a summer night. I can remember many a summer night, hanging w/my dad and siblings, late into the a summer night, either playing games/watching TV or taking a late night swim (yes, I was lucky enough to have an in-ground pool in the back yard-none of this bullshit Chicago above ground crap).

The boy was lucky enough to have his dad in his life, probably unlike the POS that shot him.

Failed cultures.
That's what it boils down to.

They've created an entire college of excuse-makers; assorted 'isms and 'ologies, accomplishing nothing more than rationalizing the shitty life choices made by certain communities, keeping the finger from pointing at the guilty parties and demanding they be held to account for their own failings.

Nope. It's all someone elses fault. Society's, perhaps. Or maybe Whitey's.

Until we can openly acknowledge the gargantuan cultural failings that exist in Chicago's black community and all the consequences that are associated with it (crime, squalor, illiteracy, welfare dependancy, broken homes and yes, anti-social behaviors like keeping your 9 year olds up at 3:30 AM...) the problem will continue to exist, with everyone under the sun being 'blamed', save for those actually responsible.

I hate to say this, but I really think the cmd of 023 should go. She is a nice person, but she has no control over the district or the w/c's. The one on third watch just does whatever he wants. He is the #1 reason the district is so short. Everyone can't stand working for that guy. Him and his band of goof supervisors don't even let you breath without notifying them first. It's an absolutely horrible environment to work in. As soon as anyone has a chance to bail they do. Heck, many have left for ghetto districts b/c they couldn't take it anymore and their were no decent openings and they just couldn't wait another period to get the fuck out of there.. The fact is the cmd should b setting the tone and putting certain bosses in check, but she doesn't have the balls to do it, so the 3rd w/c just treats everyone like shit, including other w/c in the district and nobody can do shit about it. It's a sad state of affairs over there.

There is NOTHING ANTI-SOCIAL about a child being up with his dad late on a summer night enjoying each other's companionship, whether playing video games, reading, watching sporting events, whatever!
Many, many kids and even adults have been shot while they've been inside of their own homes, asleep, watching tv, reading, whatever, as the madness of the streets have invaded their homes.
It's tragic what happened to that kid, but neither the father or his son were doing anything wrong, illegal or immoral, they were on their own property, and it should have been safe enough to leave your back door and retrieve a family pet from your own back yard. I also can remember in my youth being up late in my home during the hot summers of Chicago surrounded by family members, eating ice cream, talking about family vacations we had taken. Sometimes, even in Englewood, bad things just happen to good people.

If all these other unions have had double time why has FOP only gotten us time and a half?
Rahm also wants them to go to a 40 hour work week from 35. This one's a no brainer but how did these unions get a 35 hour work week to begin with?
FOP it appears these other unions have been much better at negotiating than you have in the past.

You're probably going to get blasted here in the comments, as well you should.

This isn't Mayberry RFD, son.

If you had an in-ground pool, you either lived in the 'burbs here in Illinois or in another state's municipality where they allow things like that. If you had an in-ground pool, you probably didn't live in the ghetto -- you lived in a neighborhood where the adults were in charge and knew where their kids were, what they were doing, who they were hanging around with, and gave the kids specific times when they should be home. If you lived in the ghetto, your dad and you wouldn't have been swimming at 3 a.m. because you either wouldn't have had an in-ground pool or your dad would have known that it wasn't safe. Not even in your own backyard.

No pity for the family. No pity for the culture. No pity for the neighborhood. The sociologists have been giving them pity for years and it means shit.

Who the hell lets their 9yo stay up until 3 a.m.? And he was actually awake enough to play video games and go outside to bring in the dog! That right there says loads -- 3 a.m. bedtimes are a routine in that household. I'll bet if you asked the teachers at his school (if he made it to school regularly), they'd tell you that he was sleepy or falling asleep half the time. Hell -- my kids (oldest 12, youngest 6) don't usually make it to midnight on New Year's Eve, the one night a year when they're allowed to go to bad later than 8 or 9. But 3 a.m.? Really?

You're missing the point here. Parents are the ones who should be responsible. The parents who are doing what they should don't need the city council to pass something to tell them when to have their kids in. The parents who aren't doing what they should won't listen to what the city council passes telling them when to have their kids in. It's similar to the whole "ban guns!" thing -- the only people who don't have them are the ones who follow the rules forbidding them to have them. The criminals don't give a shit about the rules.

This kid lived in a shit neighborhood and the dad (the kid probably knew it, too) knew it. So he should have been the one going out for the dog, without the kid.

I live in a safe neighborhood and if I'm up at 3 a.m. (which I usually am because I work from home and that's the only time I can get any work done without being interrupted), you can sure bet that I'm not letting my kids out in the yard, with or without me. (But as I've already said, they're sleeping then.) Kids don't belong up at 3 a.m. Period. If they're up, it should be because they're sick. Not because it's their regular bedtime after playing video games, etc.

Very aptly and deftly put, sir/ma'am.

The cut of your jib is both admirable and formidable.

Our $.02

The entrenched political-criminal class of Chicago that has enabled, empowered and mobilized the legions of catered to constituents as an army to defend the entrenched political-criminals against the well earned ire of the captive taxpayer.

Classic Siege Warefare...

The small garrison of responsible, hardworking, captive taxpayers who wish nothing more than to enjoy the fruits of their labors in some measure of peace and safety in concordance with the dreams and visions writ large by the Founders of this Republic; is being reproduced, overrun and legislated out of existence in this here city of Chicago.

You're an enemy and an obstruction to the liberal Stalinist Democrats that infect and inflame the body politic of Chicago, if you don't share their utopian aspirations of left wing collectivism, group-think and nanny-statism.

Which probably explains why America has lost it's mojo and those institutions SWORN to protect the true citizen from ALL ENEMIES FOREIGN & DOMESTIC (Police and Military) have been under attack and our educational system has been rendered into a Frankenstein that no longer teaches for the sake of learning but has turned teachers into nothing more than standardized testing coaches with a mandate to ensure a certain number of students can hit an arbitrary mark on tests that do nothing to lay a true foundation for life.

This nation is intentionally being walked backwards toward it's destruction and we do not like it one bit.

We reckon it will be truly free men who exercise common sense and discernment who will be stripped and enslaved to support those who look to the state for everything.

Daley, Obama and Emmanuel are the harbingers...

Those who have been sounding the alarm face the very real prospect of the powers that be going all in to silence them.

The clear-eyed contributors here know that.

There is real ugliness coming...

The Second American Revolution/Civil War is going to be God-Awful.

Cherished values and institutions are under constant attack.

Our so called leaders have been made to run funny, grow breasts, and want to "build coalitions" to the detriment of this republic instead of putting America first over all.

Massive curtailment of foreign aid for a presidential term will do wonders for this country.

Since when did listening to a scanner become illegal?

'Until we can openly acknowledge the gargantuan cultural failings that exist in Chicago's black community and all the consequences that are associated with it (crime, squalor, illiteracy, welfare dependancy, broken homes and yes, anti-social behaviors like keeping your 9 year olds up at 3:30 AM...) the problem will continue to exist, with everyone under the sun being 'blamed', save for those actually responsible.'Let me enlighten you. All black folks don't know each other. Don't equate my family with those who don't give a flying f*ck about themselves or their family. Whatever your background is do you want me to equate you with every jagoff that does something? You're the problem, because you can't tell a sh&thead from someone who is legit.

There is NOTHING ANTI-SOCIAL about a child being up with his dad late on a summer night enjoying each other's companionship, whether playing video games, reading, watching sporting events, whatever!
------

I'm sorry, but no...
Keeping a 9 year old child up until the wee hours of the AM as a regular matter of course is a maladjusted behavior type. This sort of behavior is common- even standard- in the ghetto.

Waking up at noon or 1 PM is not a good path to orient your child on, but it is tragically common in areas like that, where social mores take a backseat to 'impulse behavior'.

Why not let the young kids come out at night and put a curfew on the teens 15-19?

That would seem to lessen the violence a bit. Or not at all like this will do. Curfews don't curb violence.

Oh well... Just give the media something to talk about. Let the aldermen look like they are doing something and that they care etc.

What is next? All kids by law must sleep in a cast iron bathtub in the center of the house to lessen the chance of a stay bullet hitting them when they turn in for the night?

The terrorist have won!!

The alderman are transferring their guilt from their failures to the law abiding citizens.

Well Guess what?

They may want to push back that curfew time another hour because a seven y/o just got capped in the side just before 9 pm tonight on 7100 S. wood.

Hey, let's just declare martial law and get it over with shall we?

Unwilling or unable to stop the sanctuary city non-sense that creates this culture of: "laws don't matter" they've (the political apparatus) turned to blaming and punishing the victims now as a last resort.

Heh, of course if you go outside you're going to get shot. Dummy. What the hell you leaving your house for?

Stay in your house and don't come out. There's gangs out there with guns and we can't control them so we will control you instead and take away your freedoms.

It's a win-win for Crime Stats.

If everyone is made to stay inside they will only be shot inside and being shot inside is like an act of mother nature where we can't control it so we don't count it. It's an in-ee!!

Besides it's a great way to generate city revenue.

The fine is not large enough to take off work for to fight and possible lose you job over and it's big enough that we can fill some shoe boxes for the cities 175th anniversary parties for our leaders.

Working people trying to make their way are such easy marks for this bullshit.

BTW if we're going to do this I say definitely we set a curfew for the alderman too.

It's a brilliant idea because once the body guards lock the alderman up inside their mansions in the slums they're done foe the night and the city don't have to pay for another security shift to protect them.

When the street lights come on the aldermen have no business being out on the street.

If we catch them out fine them until they get the message....right?

Next week we will introduce the stay away from your windows ordinance -- so stay tuned.

Illegal Immigrants and law breakers -- enjoy your zones of impunity.

WRT" For Christ's sake people, he was with his dad, in his house, on a summer night. I can remember many a summer night, hanging w/my dad and siblings, late into the a summer night, either playing games/watching TV or taking a late night swim (yes, I was lucky enough to have an in-ground pool in the back yard-none of this bullshit Chicago above ground crap).

--and the POS went outside to unchain his pitbull at 3:20 am. Sorry Dude I was never up or out of the house with my parents at 3:30 am."

=====

Well good for you oh fortunate one.

Is having a pit bull a reason to get shot? You make no sense at all.

My father worked second shift his entire life. When i got home from school he was leaving for work. The only time we had together mid week was in the summer where I was occasionally allowed to take a nap and then get up at 2:30 am to share a snack while he ate dinner.

Too bad you never were able to sent up a tent in your back yard and camp out in the summer either.

Okay so we need a unit to run over to Comer Children's Hospital and another to Stroger to write a couple of curfew violations tonight.

The 12 year old girl got it in the legs and buttocks at 8:51 pm and the 7 year old got it in the stomach at 8:54 pm

Try this approach:
Chicago Municipal Code – Curfew Ordinance

8-16-020 (10)(2)

A Parent or Guardian of a minor commits an offense if he/she

knowingly permits, or by “insufficient control” allows, the minor

to remain in any public place or on the premise of any

establishment within the city during curfew hours.

************************************************************************

What does this mean?
In addition to completing the Curfew Form, write the Parent / Guardian of the minor who is in violation of the curfew ordinance an A.N.O.V. Hold the Parents liable for their children in the courtroom (400 W. Superior).

What to Write:
(In summary) In that he/she: is the parent or guardian of a minor in violation of the Chicago Curfew Ordinance.
Use above MCC Code: 8-16-020(10)(2)

(e)
Penalties. A person (or parent/guardian) who violates a provision of this chapter is guilty of a separate offense for each day or part of a day during which the violation is committed, continued, or permitted. Each offense, upon conviction, is punishable by a fine not to exceed $500.00
