The Obama Recovery Continues
- As the economic recovery continues to sputter, several Chicago-area companies have announced plans for more layoffs, starting next month.
A total of seven Illinois companies have filed reports with the state that it plans to lay off a total of more than 600 workers, starting next month.
Among the Chicago-area companies affected: Morgan Stanley, Jewel-Osco, Bistro 110, Emmis Communications and Ryerson.
Where's Quinn with a few more imaginary millions of dollars to save these jobs?

My wife was given a letter that July 31st is her last day,after 33 years in the finance industry,her sister working for a large insurance firm was told all the business will be in india by Nov 2011 her job will be gone,brother in law lost his $80.000 a year job was out 4 months took a job making $38,000. What recovery? Rahm is saying the city is broke,pensions are fucked up, companies everywhere are cutting back. We are still though with dumbocrats in control giving out free link cards,free schools,free healthcare,free CTA rides,free everything for illegals WTF! We are becoming rapidly a socialist country! Lets hope and pray that this barry obama "experiment" is gone 2012!

Love the way he's so arrogant about a private corporation's decision to close. Obviously, the store was not supported by the area. Reminds me of all the excitement about the Starbucks at 87th and Kedzie. Closed without fanfare. The politicians talk about wanting this and that but the residents lifestyle don't support those types of businesses.

governor quinn has about 33,000 people who would like him beheaded---- they are the state's unionized employees who just found out that they will get no raises this year--- this follows what the chicago board of education got away with--- after almost 3 years without a contract arbitrator benn gave the chicago police department a 6.5 percent raise over 5 years--- quinn summarily took that right away with an increase in state taxes---- in june 2012 our contract once again expires and things are not looking good with a 700 million dollar budget deficit--- the survival of the pension fund has to be our biggest priority when we go back to the table....

great recovery right barry? This man has single underhandedly completely destroyed the economy,by having no clue what he is doing! But he golfs alot,his wife has been taking her family and friends everywhere all over the world on our dime though! He will go down as the worst president in history, and eventually people will find out he was not even born in the USA! About 2,500 jobs remain unfilled in the Chicago Police Department. Jobs that are in the city budget and funded by some of the highest taxes in the nation. 2,500 secure jobs with good pay and benefits.
Now why isn't Jesse and Father Pflakey marching their phlocks on city hall demanding those jobs be filled by their people.
I suppose when enough of the old guard, the teachers of what is to really be the police pass on and there are so few left that chaos runs the streets that is exactly what will happen. Then we will get the Obama inspired socialist orientated police they want.

The problem is the businesses whining about paying their fair share of the taxes. What do they care anyway? They'll just pass it along to us anyway. God forbid any of them actually give up some profits for the massive government services they use. Have you ever thought about how much it costs to process & prosecute a $150 shoplifter the arrest, the prints, the inventory, the bosses approval, the housing of the offender, court costs - judge, reporter, security, building, ac, water, restrooms, continuances, etc? The $150 retail translates to what, a $25 loss to the store? (Remember, theft from a store is a felony at $150 retail, including tax while for a regular joe it's $300 cuz they have big bucks to pay the lobbyists to convince the law makers.) Not to mention the obscene costs of protecting their property rights globally or the streets, phone, internet, on & on & on. Why don't the politicians say a word? Cuz republican or democrat, the rich line their campaign funds.

For decades, I found the employees at Jewel to be friendly and helpful, and they always appeared to be working their tails off. Look for quality to continue to dive at Jewel, just as it has at Dominick's. This really makes me wary of food safety issues and produce freshness etc.
