Off-duty Injured
Another attempted robbery:
- An off-duty Chicago police officer was injured during an attempted robbery in the Oakland neighborhood early this morning.
At 1:46 a.m., two men approached the officer in the 3900 block of South Lake Park Avenue and tried to rob him, said police News Affairs [...]
One of the attackers hit the officer on the head with a brick, prompting the officer to fire at him [...].
No one was shot, and the attackers ran from the scene.

Let's see here; pay attention dumbells in Springfield and alderman. Person is assumed to be easy pickins' by 2 hoodlums because they think he is unarmed. Hoodlums go after assumed easy pickins' only to find out he has a nice big boom boom. Aw, that does spoil the fun now doesn't it? Idiots, pass CCW now!! My hat goes off to the lucky officer who at least had a right to defend himself.
Always, always, always carry off duty. It still pisses me off when I run into fellow officers and they are unarmed, especially when they have their children with them.
You need to be able to defend yourself from Daley's voters. This is no longer a safe city for family people.

Take your time coming back officer hope you feel better! Another reason to always carry,the more stories I read and thinking that most times I personally don't carry really makes me change my mindset! Hope that thugs that did this get hurt and arrested soon!
This is the reason why law abiding citizens should have the right to carry a gun. For just one moment consider what would have happened to this officer if he didn't have his gun, the gun saved his life.
To bad his bullet didn't hit the bad guy. If this guy wasn't the police and he didn't have a gun, he would be just antother RD#. But crime is down.

Mortar Shells Fired at Illinois Police
An incident that left a Peoria policeman and firefighter with temporary hearing loss after being fired upon with mortar-type fireworks in Taft Homes is being reviewed by authorities Tuesday.
Just as the grand finale of the riverfront fireworks display was exploding over the Illinois River on Monday night, emergency responders were summoned to Taft Homes on a call of a burning Dumpster.
A fire engine and two police officers were the first to respond. Peoria Fire Department Division Chief Gary Van Voorhis said a crowd that had been shooting firewworks as the engine arrived turned the tubes toward emergency personnel and ignited the contents.

From the sound of the number of unit responding on the radio calls I'm pretty sure a 10-1 went out..Yet still being overwhelmed in numbers it's been reported that no-one was arrested for officer safety reasons.
What kind of 'broken windows' message does this send to the communities of Illinois?
In a somewhat relate story NYPD just swore in the largest single number of recruits in five years.
1,635 officers were swore in during the latest mass hiring event.

The good officer deserves special dispensation considering he was hit over the head with a brick. Too bad he missed, but I'll bet the perps needed a pair of Depends after getting shot at.

After getting hit in the head with a brick it was amazing that he could do anything. Good job getting out your gun and defending yourself.
Sucks you missed officer, good try however. Hope you are well and can get over the injury taken in the attack.

EVERYONE should carry a weapon, cops or civilians, If you kill some scumbag while defending yourself or someone else there is no way they would risk a public relations nightmare,Headline "State seeks charges on man defending his family killing armed thug gang member" I'll take my chance packin my own heat, You would never see my piece untill it's too late!
