Gambling to Save us All?

  • Mayor Rahm Emanuel predicted Thursday that Gov. Quinn will sign a bill that would create a Chicago casino and others around the state.

“I believe that when the governor weighs it, and weighs all the equities and analyzes it, he’ll come to the conclusion I think I came to on behalf of the city of Chicago,” Emanuel said.

Wednesday, Illinois Gaming Board Chairman Aaron Jaffe had said he would be “flabbergasted” if Quinn signed the bill after speaking out against it.

Quinn is dithering far too long on this thing and Rahm needs it in an effort to close up Daley's monstrous budget shortfalls. Plus, with Des Plaines about to open their casino in a few short days, a Chicago casino will end up struggling for a lot of north suburban dollars that are already too scared to come into the city.

UPDATE: A few of our degenerate gamblers informed us that the casino in Des Plaines opens this Monday. Post corrected.

SCC Quinn isn't stalling on signing this bill. I read an article the other day online that said Sen Cullerton still has the gaming bill & the electric increase bill on his desk. It said he was stalling until he had a better idea on how Quinn would go before putting it on the Gov's desk

Anyone catch the breaking news how Mara Georgas, Daley's lawyer pupet, just got a very high paying job with the law firm that Daley now also gets a nice check from? Yes, the law firm that got a lot of contracts back when Daley was the dictator of chicago and was also involved in the parking meter scam. Many in the new are starting to talk about the corrupt connection.

Yeah but I'll bet that the Chicago casino will have bucket beaters out front and you just can't get that kind of entertainment in Des Plaines... I don't think.

Prepare to be flabbergasted, then. Do we not think Emanuel will ask Obama to put the screws to Quinn, so Chicago can drag itself out of this Daley-created disaster?

While Rahm and others see a Chicago casino as the salvation of many of the City's financial ills, I see it as the creation of a whole new set of issues regarding crime, corruption and cronyism. But we'll see...

The mob should profit plenty from a city casino. As for taxpayers we’ll be lucky if it breaks even and doesn’t end up costing us millions.

Quinn will probably do a line item veto on some portions of the bill. I think Chicago will get a casino because the connected arceholes already have their greedy beaks in everything to do with it. I doubt much of the money made by the city will ever to to citizen services.

In other news, he's an asshole of the highest order.

Gambling is not a government function. It's a way for them to fleece the public yet again. They have irresponsibly spent the public's tax dollars and now want to make the public pay again by shaking them down in a con game house.

Disgrace. Democrats are ruining this country.

I went to Rivers on Tuesday to get my players card early. There was a line wrapped around the building! I almost pulled out when the guy directing traffic told me the line moves very quickly. He was right! Took about 20 minutes and every employee was almost absurdly friendly and polite. They were handing out bottled water, ice cream, t-shirts and other swag. Looks like it's going to be a nice, upscale place.

Interesting thing about the hundreds and hundreds of people in line: I'd say 95% were white senior citizens. I sure hope the gangbangers keep going to Indiana to spend their discretionary money!
