Media Cover Up Continues
As posted in the below UPDATES to the "Another Shooting (And Another!)" post, the media continues to either remove or crop the photo of the 13-year-old offender in an effort to alter its meaning. Here's what they show:
And here's the actual photo, given to the media by the family before someone told them this might be a bad idea to have floating around:
It has been pointed out to us by a number of commentators that he is representing one of the most violent street gangs ever to grace the streets of Chicago, namely the vice lords. It has also been mentioned that the nearby Piccolo Elementary School has suffered a rash of windows being shot out by BB's over the past week along with neighborhood cars. Also, the time of the shooting (after 2300 hours) indicates a curfew violation. But none of this is being covered in the media reports now. All we're hearing is how police are too heavy handed, Jimmell was a good boy, there was no gun, blah blah blah.
Two words for the media - Yummy Sandifer.
You think this isn't still happening today? You think the media is doing anything but abetting the next juvenile delinquent by cropping the only decent photo the family had of Jimmell (and it's him throwing up for the nation)? You think making the police the enemy of a community so dysfunctional that their children are amassing felony records before they can legally drive is going to suddenly....
Ah screw it. We can only point out the media hypocrisy and their inept reporting skills for so long before we throw up our hands. Maybe some of the extra visitors we had yesterday will drop back in, see what the media is truly up to, become so disgusted they cancel their subscriptions and the entire dead-tree media dies that much faster.

This is why no one trusts the media anymore. They distort the true story to get sympathy from the viewers who they assume all hate the police and to sway the viewers to think it could have been a bad shooting. It would be nice to see at least one media outlet show the real photo. The media's job is not to take a side(which they always do), but to just report the facts and let the viewers decide how they feel. The media was given the photo and they should show the whole thing. If a copper was seen in a photo doing something wrong you can bet the media would not edit it. FUCK YOU MEDIA!!!
I work at a small new media publication that serves Chicagoland.
Newspapers are like Amy Winehouse a week ago. They may be alive right now, but there's no doubt how their story turns out.
They will always exist in one form or another- owning one will be a hubris thing for local big shots (kinda like owning a sports team)- but their days of being of 'premier relevance' are over.
Going forward, "New Media" will consist of the following three entities.
1) Credible, independent commentary (just like this blog)
2) Established "masterbrands" serving video content (ie- the networks)
3) Amateur content and commentary.
In the year 2011 and beyond, there is just no room left for grinding trees into dried, bleached pulp, dousing them with ink and hoping people care enough to pay for it.
The newspaper's glory days as the 'immutable ideological bastion of liberal thought and idea' died as soon as US internet saturation broke 50% and opened up the free exchange of information to everyone, rather than being filtered by a closed-circuit cabal of old media clerics.
Don't confuse yourselves, my uniformed friends. Just because they aren't 'gone' yet doesn't mean they aren't wholly and entirely dead.
Do not fret when you see some BS story published by old media. Their 'reach' figures are padded and dishonest, meant to keep their kooky old shareholders believing... They're a tree falling in the woods.
I was at the express DMV at the Thompson Center last month, I had to wait to talk to a supervisor about my license renewal (I'm a reservist and did a tour, and because my license has been expired longer than a year they were trying to tell me I have to take a friggin road test like I'm some 16 year old kid, but I digress...) and right next to me sits this fat, 300lb monstrosity of a human being, pregnant, eating, can't make this up, flaming hot cheetos. I threw up in my mouth a little bit.
So the super comes out and tells me he has to make a phone call to check on that, and then he kinda walks away and Kikishawreeka asks me "dat be da manager?" I look at her, and after about 5 seconds, hesitantly, disgustingly say "yes." She then tries to get his attention via ebonics, and he told her she had to wait. Haha, it was great, a little victory in an otherwise shit city with shitheads roaming the streets.
All I could think, was SHE WAS THE PROBLEM. IT'S YOU FUCKING THIS CITY UP. You are waiting to pop out a welfare check that I get to pay for, as they train to point guns at da poleece.
I went home and took 5 showers in a row.
Anyway, keep up the good work CPD. You are the real police. Fuck the liberals, fuck the yuppies, fuck the media, and of course fuck the rev-undones.

Ch 5 news is now making reference to Chicago cops being "trigger happy". Lots of distortion with the news concerning police shootings. All of these Thug shooters and their families are looking for money in the aftermath of these incidents. Does making these criminals look good sell more newspapers or increase tv news viewership?

If he's a "straight A and B" student, then why is he in the sixth grade at the age of 13? That would make him around twenty years old if he graduates high school without flunking again, right?

I'm going to be a bit controversial when I say that many people (not all)can see thru all of the words and make up their own minds about this stuff. Yes, we all question the police but that is mostly b/c we are a bit fearful of getting a ticket from you.
Plus, most citizens assume you are part of the city's administration and working on their behalf. We wonder why people act like these kids and wish they would not eat so many Flamming Hot Cheetos and study more instead of acting like asshxxxs on the bus.

Had a murder trial a couple months ago where the victim's family brought in several "life photos" of the vic....the ASAs ended up using one of his CB photos instead. Pretty funny.
As for this case, another future 16year old 8th grader from the CPS...if he lives that long. Considering that...why are all the teachers patting themselves on the back for this kid's development? Sounds like failure to me.

When I moved to Chicago from out of state 5 years ago, I went to the DMV to get an IL license. I was 32 at the time, married, no kids, working as an attorney, 29 year old wife a CPA, so both paying LOTS of taxes.
During my wait, I was sitting next to a young black lady with a cute little baby on her lap, so asked her, "How old is your daughter?"
Her reply - "Oh this ain't my daughter, she my grandbaby. I need to become her official guardian bc my daughter is 15, I still get her social security, and need to get it for the baby too."
I asked her how old she was - same age as me, 32. Appalling, sick, disgusting - talk about your generational welfare. It's like the state might as well just take the money directly from my pocket, and put it into that bitch's (though if it did that, it couldn't profit as a middleman). I told my wife that day that we're never buying property in Chicago, that we're keping our cars licensed at our family's homes in MI, and once our future (since born) children are old enough for school, we are peacing out to the burbs up north NOT in Crook County.
On an unrelated note, she & I both are grateful for you men & women in blue, especially for being willing to deal with POSs like these every day. And most attorneys here, save for the fucking litigators, feel the same was as we do.

I'm not from here, or a cop, but I recently visited for the first time. I've been following the city's politics very closely ever since.
The media bias in Chicago is unbelievable and cops are left fighting a battle that cannot be won because they have no support. I do not envy any of you police officers. Cops are getting killed solely because they're cops. It's absurd that this is happening in a world-class city and it's even more absurd that the mainstream press is keeping the public in the dark and creating a convenient environment for the victim card to be played. The cops are the only people left in town with a sense of accountability, of right and wrong, and they're made to be brutal tyrants by a useless class of people that gives birth to a cheques and bemoans its loss with ALL KINDS of passion and fervor that simply isn't there when it comes to raising said cheque. It's appalling.
None of this affects me directly, but I'm troubled by it. People who aren't from Chicago are paying attention too.

I used to work for a news outlet many years ago. It's true that they want the best selling story. They purposely cut the facts to do whatever has the most shock value. They always crop photos and edit stories to they way they want. There really needs to be a news outlet that reports the truth. There is more shock value in that, than the unreality that the media portrays nowadays.
If these kids were in school or at home watching Sesame Street, this wouldnt be happenin..
A side-note on this case: as always, the media likes to refer to a BB gun as something other than a real gun, often referring to it as a "toy gun," or something harmless. When a P.O. in 018 shot a teen punk with a BB gun a few years ago, the Sun-Times referred to it as a "toy gun," and encouraged the city to be outraged. The Tribune, at least, quoted a spokesperson from the Daisy BB Gun Company who related that a BB gun is indeed a "real" gun, whose projectile can cause great bodily, or, yes, even DEATH. All teen thugs carrying BB guns on the street deserve the use of force they receive from the police.

I also hate what the Sun-Times and other media outlets do with photos as in the Officer Michael Bailey case this morning.
They post the offenders photo, same size right next to Officer Bailey's. Like he has some right to be in the same anything with Michael Bailey.

Here's the deal.
We, as coppers, see it all--the good, the bad, the ugly. We don't have the option of having filters on our eyes, hearts, or souls. We see reality. I think that is why we get so pissed off when things are distorted by the media. Tell the damn truth. It's pretty arrogant of them to think they have the moral authority to spin stories. If that was the pic given, print the damn thing.
I think the only true journalism left, that captures the true spirit of the press are college newspapers.

Of COURSE it does. Pissing the public off makes them come back and look for more bullshit to piss them off.
Take a look at every comment in every article at both media rags.
98% of every post is someone pissing and moaning, trying to get their "word" out and feel like someone actually gives a shit about their pathetic opinions.
Get with it dude, pissing people off is the only thing the media has left to keep people interested.
Yes, we all question the police but that is mostly b/c we are a bit fearful of getting a ticket from you.
Plus, most citizens assume you are part of the city's administration and working on their behalf.

I don't know where YOU'VE been hiding bud, but the majority of police DON'T write tickets. That's the one lone traffic car on a watch that bothers to write tickets.

Let's all remember the law, in order to be a firearm it has to shoot at 700 ft/ sec or faster. That is the technicality the media is using to classify this as a toy gun. If you want to punish the press, don't buy the papers. Cancel your subscription and encourage your family, friends and neighbors to do the same.
Always write in to them to tell them that you think they are slanting stories. They'll write back with an excuse, but you should still let them know.
