No Cover Up

  • In the latest twist in the high-profile homicide case involving a nephew of former Mayor Richard M. Daley, the Chicago Sun-Times has learned that the Chicago Police Department’s original files from the case were missing for months — possibly years.

It’s the second time that law-enforcement records turned up missing regarding the violent death of 21-year-old David Koschman of Mount Prospect, who succumbed to brain injuries days after getting punched in the face by Daley nephew Richard J. “R.J.” Vanecko during a drunken confrontation in the Rush Street area in April 2004.

Unfortunately, this crime might be irreparably damaged to ever be fully investigated and prosecuted. But the alleged cover-up might still manage to take down a few people.

It's funny how they point fingers at each other. I hope this thing becomes huge and those responsible for covering it up will pay for it.

The sad part is that numerous members of our department had a hand in this and some of them are sitting next to you at roll call. It wasn't only gold stars.

and the Daleys continues to receive free CPD body guard detail including two full gased vehicles available to tote around Maggie and shanks at their beck and call...courtesy of Chicago taxpayers.

Just a citizen but one who understands clout, politics and those who give away their integrity. Its very obvious to those that understand the above that favors were done, things misplaced and not followed up properly, ignored etc...and that most likely involved at least several people, from CPD, CCSA and of course the soulless shells of the Daley clan and their hangers on were involved. Maggie Daley, you're a mother, how can you sleep at night knowing in your heart that your nephew commited a homicide, an innocent young man died (and the heartache his Mother is going through)while your nephew and his friends conspired to cover it up, using your last name and family as leverage. Perhaps it's time to bare your soul while you still have time left. I'd hate to go before my creator with that heavy weight on my soul.

Just on "general principals" richard m. "shortshanks" daley should get 10yrs incarceration along with a nice yellow jump suit to match the stripe on his back.

CCX the homicide without ever re-interviewing the offender VANECKO? And now you know exactly why the detective division supervisors at #650 are detective division supervisors at #650! And it has been this way at #650 since long before the cover-up of the KOSCHMAN murder, and the murder of the Arab kid at the "1-2-3" at Diversey and Central, or the attempted cover-up of the Billy LOGAN murder in 015...

One would have to assume at this point in this particular VANECKO investigation that the people mainly involved in the distortion of statements/concealing-displacing of certain files have likely all retired; some may even be deceased by now. One thing is for certain, no charges of homicide will ever be placed on Vanecko himself, and no one will do any prison time as a result of a case with many sets of City Hall fingerprints all over it.
All of the friends of 'the connected' all stood together, providing a wall which kept the truth concealed for many years; love or hate the Daleys, that says a lot in itself. No one is going to willingly or easily bite the hand of the Daleys.

Let's be clear about this: Jimmy Gilger was simply asked to review this case LONG after the real work was done, and only looking at the submitted supps. This was an Area 3 job all the way.

I am willing to bet that the coverup took place in a corner office, on the 5th floor at 3510 S. Michigan Avenue.

In all probability the calls for O'Brien to appear at the lineup do not appear in the Felony Review log book is he was instructed to appear after calls were exchanged between the same office on the 5th floor and the office of the State's Attorney at the Daley Center.

The Sun Times should concentrate their investigatory efforts on what Cline and Devine agreed upon!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't a man who was shown ON CAMERA defending himself and his children just spend a year in jail after being charged with murder? Somehow those files weren't "misplaced".

I have said it before and I will say it again: Only a grand jury will ever sort this mess out. Subpeona everyone down and possibly give a few immunity to testify under oath. The Cook County States' Attorney will never do this so it falls on Madigan or the feds as a violation of civil rights. Jody Weiss in his new role should call his fed buddies.

12: 24 am the world agrees with you. The maggie daleys of the world have already sold their souls. They are so far out there with their feelings of entitlement and privilage, they dont feel for the commoners. She has been in the loop with the corruption that is the family business. Her husband, brothers in law, son, nephews all have their hand in the till, never having to "work" a real job. These asshats had the privilage to sell off almost all the city "revenue" assets, with their million dollar consulting fees being put in their swiss bank accounts. Just wait til the gambling bill gets passed. They will make even more money, now that the head troll has retired into academia. The university of chicago, has become the dumping ground for the scourges of our city. She knows her days are numbered, judgment day is a certainty for all of us. She made her deal with the devil, she sleeps in the same house with him. I highly doubt, given the fact that they need police protection, because of the stuttering fools misdeeds and the possibility for retribution by the people he has fucked over, that she gives a damn about the loss of this poor woman's son. All those involved, your day will come. The coppers involved, hope it was worth tarnishing the badge and collecting the pieces of silver. Hopefully with G-d's grace this woman gets justice and wins the ghetto lottery and all those involved enjoy lenghty prison sentences and their day in bankruptcy court.

I work in Area One and would have a raging hard on if given an assignment to charge a member of that fucked up Daley family with ANYTHING.

Once again the media doesn't miss a chance to lay this goat fuck at the feet of the police.

I don't know the dicks who handled the case but it's hard to imagine any officer giving a fuck about any Daley.

IF this case was fucked with, there's no doubt it was fucked with by Darren O'Brien or others in Felony Review NOT the dicks handling the case.

A more interesting expose by these "investigative journalists" would be how the CCSAO Felony Review unit, NOT THE DETECTIVES, dictate how a case is investigated. THEY lead the investigation, not us. They have all the power.

It's a shame that a lawsuit can't be brought that would attach felony review to the CPD in regards to any future lawsuits brought by these jagoffs.

If that ever happened the SAO would cut and run and it would be the end of felony review. They would just let us charge them and nolle the case later.

Hey Carol Marin and the Watchdogs, "Follow the money."

Don't forget: no car insurance to pay, no city sticker fees, no insurance, no maintenance or upkeep or car washes, in addition to those bodyguards and chauffeurs who are paid one grade higher than their rank, just for the privilege of driving the Daleys and fetching their dvd rentals.

Hey, does the 001st district ALSO still have a car sitting outside their house, inside the gated, secure townhouse association, 24/7???

Anita Alvarez?!!?!!? She's part of the problem with this whole damn case! She's not going to do anything but help coverup the BS and add to the lies. Hopefully there's a break somewhere in this mess. From the looks of it, its obvious that this guy has gotten away with murder. He has no worries...he's living it up in Cali.

Manslaughter is a legal term for the killing of a human being, in a manner considered by law as less culpable than murder.

Manslaughter is usually broken down into two distinct categories: voluntary manslaughter and involuntary manslaughter.

Voluntary manslaughter occurs either when the defendant kills with malice aforethought (intention to kill or cause serious harm), but there are mitigating circumstances which reduce culpability, or when the defendant kills only with an intent to cause serious bodily harm. Voluntary manslaughter in some jurisdictions is a lesser included offense of murder. The traditional mitigating factor was provocation; however, others have been added in various jurisdictions.

Involuntary manslaughter is the unlawful killing of a human being without malice aforethought. It is distinguished from voluntary manslaughter by the absence of intention. It is normally divided into two categories; constructive manslaughter and criminally negligent manslaughter.

Boy oh boy! It's really nice to have a uncle who has the power to control everything. Even the FEDS are scared to touch their family. Feels like am living in a Third World Country. Oh, we are heading that way . . . . . King Daley Rule!!!

Be careful what you ask for. Felony Review is one of the few areas that ASAs can be sued--there's no prosecutorial immunity where ASAs act as Investigators more than as prosecutors. However, if FRU was abolished, and the Police could charge every felony they want, you would see a rash of NGs and Nolles.
That would lead to a huge increase in False Arrest lawsuits against CPD.
Many cases brought to FRU are not supported by sufficient evidence to prove guilt beyond a reaonable doubt.
It would be interesting to see--coppers would spend infinitely more time testifying at trial because no defense attorney would plead a guy guilty to the shit cases that would ensue without FRU.
Job security for ASAs
