  • Chicago police shot and wounded a person late Monday in the South Side Brainerd neighborhood, officials said.

The shooting occurred in the 9400 block of South Justine Street, officials said. Early reports indicated the officers fired shots and that an offender was struck, said [...] a police spokesman. He had no other details.

Details as they become available.

Hey all you south side beverly guys, what's going on with your neighborhood? I've been hearing it's going down hill, but what do those of you that live down there think? Been thinking about making the move down there, but then i hear this stuff. Is Mt Greenwood the only decent area left down there now?

I live at 94th and Hoyne. The chopper was going for a while tonight. It's not the first time with the forest preserve nearby though this seemed to last a long time. It sounded like the boys were working hard to sniff out the last perp. Hopefully they got him and all got home safe. Great job regardless of the outcome. If he's still out there, I'm confident he'll be bagged soon. Thanks and cheers.

I am not a cop, but I have a question.

The guy who always look like he just finished golfing 18 and used to be the spokesman now comes on the news and gives an actual clear picture of what happens in these police shootings, and manages to throw in a little pro cop viewpoint.

That guy should be on the news every day making people aware of what the hell you guys are dealing with, and pay him his greens fees or whatever he wants because he actually gives a classy, clear statement.

Why isnt this guy still the Police Spokesman? WHO LET HIM RETIRE?

And I love it because I am sure it drives the New York City tough guy nuts that a Chicago retired guy makes them look ineffective and the reporters lend credibility to someone who actually looks like he worked in a police car in Englewood, instead of the hard guy Yankees fan acting like a cop, who probably is more of a politician than he ever was a cop.

I have great admiration for Chicago Policeman, and I have had since I was a kid. They ARE the real POLICE. And I just wish they could do their jobs to make us safe instead of taking orders from pandering, liberal politicians who are more concerned with getting the Reverends and Father Phony Phleger on their side than doing what needs to be done in the City.

The guy you are talking about use to be the spokesman for the CPD and paid by the city. So he used to give the city spin but was always a coppers cop. Now he is retired and was hired by the FOP(union) to be a spokesman. Now he will paint the picture that he best can to let the public know what the city & lamestream media won't let you know.

OT --

The media are weird.

From the coverage of yesterday morning's storm, you'd think that Chicago was a vacuum surrounded by suburbs.

We had a tornado or near-tornado in the city, not very far from Channel 9's studios -- aside from this dramatic first-hand account on their web site, no further coverage whatsoever from anyone.

"Severe damage reported in the Portage Park neighborhood of Chicago- Eye witness account

July 11, 2011 10:05 AM

"This morning at apx 8:10AM CDT a strong wind event hit the Northwest side of Chicago. From my early ground assessment, a 4 block area centered around Marmora and Dakin Streets received either an intense micro-burst or an EF1 tornado. There is widespread damage. Power lines to homes are down posing extreme danger. 100 year old trees are down. Large branches are down on cars and through their windows parked along the roads. Some streets are totally blocked. Trees are completely torn at the base. Homes have branches through windows and roofs. Roofs have been de-shingled and some torn off. Gazebos, awnings and pools have been torn, damaged or destroyed. One eyewitness living near Austin and Byron reported seeing a whirling circle of clouds in the sky overhead just before the damage occurred."

There.

Simple Police Survival Technique in this current "mean season" for Chicago Policemen...

Continue targeting and killing the mad-dog criminals who seek to take you from your families and loved ones, Officers!

The mad-dog criminal has been given aid and comfort by the knee jerk majority, the media and their political-criminal masters at City Hall.

The mad-dog criminal moves and operates with impunity and immunity thanks to a thoroughly compromised court system.

The Policeman has no recourse, justice or safe harbor from the ongoing storm in this city but his own.

There are many who would rather see an honors funeral than a Policeman striking hard blows to protect himself and his comrades.

There are many who feel smug and self satisfied at hearing worthless politicians and dignitaries mumble pretty words about "brave sacrifice to keep us safe" while they themselves are neither brave or worthy of any so called sacrifice by men & women who are actually in the arena. Their talk is the prattle of idiots and the craven who wouldn't dare set foot in the arena yet they sit in harsh and haughty judgement.

Damn them and all they stand for to hell and the very devil himself.

Good on the officers doing what they needed to do...

Those who readily rotate their dentures about Policemen as "public servants" are in denial about the real character and soul of Policemen.

Servants humbly bow and meekly "know their place."

Policemen are ferocious souls, aren't they?

If you want cuddly and friendly, look elsewhere... Devils are being wrestled with out there in the real world.

They're made of the hard, rugged stuff that's the polar opposite of a "servant."

There will be no correction for the current "mean season" The Police are enduring and it's the good people who will suffer the most.

...Survival is The Policeman's task at hand. Nothing else.

"Be polite. Be professional, but have a plan in mind to kill everyone you encounter should it become necessary."

-USMC Rules For Gunfighting*-

*As wholly adopted and embraced by CPD.

They're intentionally trying to starve us to death through attrition boys & girls and they got us surrounded.

They've been rehearsing and re-writing their play book to avoid any nasty surprises by the "out of control cops." They're going to have to make their big play soon so be ready.

Mt Greenwood and Beverly both are dying communities. Why would you want to drive through complete shit to get home. When you live in either one of those ares you are essentially living on an island surrounded by nothing but problems. There are very few place's to eat and even fewer places to go for a casual drink without running into a D@#$ckhead. Just look at what burbon has become. It's mostly garbage that goes there now and why would you want to hang out in a place like that. (thats a shame to becasue they are very good to the police) No working poice officer would. You deal with garbage all day why deal with it at home. My advice is to look else where so when they do eventually lift the residency clause you won't have to foreclose on your house when the time comes.

Beverly just needs a moat and a wall. When the city had its real estate revitalization period from 1995-2006, Beverly benefitted, but more should have been done. East of Longwood and south of 111th should have been rehabbed more. Push back the line of demarcation.

(OT) Noticed comments on here about neighborhoods,we have lived in Garfield Ridge 21 years it is holding up OK. But went to downtown Lagrange tonight at about 7,and the place was PACKED,no parking people (Mostly White) everywhere, having a good time. Then drove back down Archer Ave,nice new street lights (The ones that had power),the streets are nicely resurfaced but a HUGE absence of businesses! Why? I know as a fact Alderman Zalewski has been reaching out to business people to try to get more business here, but you talk people at the top and they will tell you "Chicago has to many restrictions, and extra taxes on business." You look at the intersection of Archer and Narragansett,3 corners empty with a 4th up for sale, the Archer strip with all the empty store fronts looks desolate we need an influx of new business like Rahmbo said he was going to create more business opportunities but alas i guess not! Rant off/Thanks SCC for all you do!

Calm the fuck down with the Beverly knocking, it's a solid neighborhood with good home values and good schools. Mt Greenwood is ok too, loads of city workers in both areas. your right its not Beverly but 95th and wood sure is. and so is 95th and western and western ave from 91st to 111th and its filled with the SAVAGE. Say what you want about mt greenwood but i moved from 100th and damen area and i couldn't be happier. I dont care if the residents who are moving into Beverly are not the same sh*theads from englewood but then they bring the cousins and the sisters and brother all over to stay there and its like im living in roseland. Beverly from western east is crap. you've got at least two or three of "those" families on each block now and on some blocks much more. I now live around 106th and central park and its fantastic. All police officers, fireman and city workers who are quiet and easy going... I dont know where you are getting canaryville south from. Being born and raised in beverly i enjoy the change... at least everyone in mt greenwood doesnt walk around like theyve got a stick up thier as* and I dont have to hear from every single person about how they are best friends with ginger, matt oshea or the sheehans... sorry beverly, but your goin down the tubes. west beverly though, still a beautiful place to live in my opinion. from western to california 103rd to 113th still very nice(even though part of that is morgan park). love mount greenwood and couldnt be happier I made the move. why are people from beverly so defensive about it??? maybe its because they know that the neighborhood is going to shit and cant stand the thought of it... I know i felt like that for a while but forgot all about it once I met my neighbors and got into my house.. If your living east of western GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!!! Not putting your neighborhood down but its very great advice.

Stop trying to paint this picture that these assholes are taking over beverly cuz they're not. Good job to the citizens that kept calling 911 when they saw these assholes...to bad the other 3 got away.

I'm originally from another state but ended up marrying a CPD in the 90's. He had roots in Beverly. I lived on the north side.

We looked at houses on the South side, and no matter what he did, he could not convince me to move there.

Every route in and out of there, you had to drive through total shit neighborhoods. I could not see myself going through the stress of travelling through the ghetto just to get to work or home.

It was totally insane! One block was high-rent, and the next block was full of bust-outs. I'd never seen anything like it and didn't want any part of it.

We ended up settling north, and I don't regret it at all. I'm 3 houses from the Park Ridge border and don't have to worry about catching a stray bullet while trying to get somewhere.

You south siders are a strange bunch of birds.

Where this started was not beverly. Then where the POS got shot was where beverly starts. Once you get into the Area it is still good. They left an area on the outskirts and were walking down the busy street when they were caught. The area is still good.imo

Wake up, its a Northside copper (BW) pulling your chain.

9000 Marshfield is not Beverly. It's east of the Rock Island and only someone completely unfamiliar with the area or would call it Beverly. It is more like Brainard. Calm the fuck down with the Beverly knocking, it's a solid neighborhood with good home values and good schools. Mt Greenwood is ok too, loads of city workers in both areas. No place is perfect, not MG, Beverly, Hegewisch, Garfield Ridge, Sauganash or any where else. If there was police action like at 95 and Wood, I'm glad that our guys took out that piece of shit and helped protect the neighborhood.

Be Safe. The wolf is well armed.

You are wrong my friend...spend a little money and come live in 'Gods Country'....the northwest side.

Just an attention grabber to sell newspapers.

To the poster talking trash about Beverly, and the virtues of MG. You need to realize that 91st-111th on Western is a huge retail district. People come to shop from a wide area. Lastly, what about the firefighter from MG selling dope to the GDs? Yeah you forgot about that. Not to mention another home was raided last year for selling dope. Now go get your shinebox.

If you are a suburban cop and still live in Mt. Greenwood it's probably because someone stole the tires off of your trailer. If I didn't work for this chithole city I would not be living there

You guys sound like goofs arguing about neighborhoods. You are probably the same ones that still argue about whether Rita is better than Carmel. Get a life. The whole city sucks. North, south, downtown. Shitheads are everywhere

Carmels better

enough about the neighborhoods you self serving son of bitches, how about think of our officers who in the blink of the eye made a decision to discharge their weapons and will be scrutinized from here to eternity, think about the officer going home after sitting in the station, seperated from his partner, with everyone around him wondering if he overreacted. My god, we are our own worst enemies, I pray and hope you will never have to go through that. SCC , i applaud your ability to allow officers to vent, but please remind them, there is a proper place and a proper time to bitch. You allowed posts to become more about neighborhoods, rather than about the dangerous conditions that face our officers and further fail to address the needs of the officer involved . I can only wonder what the officers are thinking at the moment of discharging their weapons eg. they may never see their family again, what repercusions they might face, lawsuits and all they see on the blog is assholes talking about a neighborhood.

once again the animal is not living on my block or walking down my block every single day...end of story. now go have ribs and hot links with your neighbors. how about numerous newsworthy armed robberies of kids in beverly, a huge burglary pattern that is still going on and lets not forget the judges daughter who was robbed by sutherland. beverly is shot. You may still have nice houses but when the sun goes down the element comes in to your neighborhood, not mount greenwood.. Hopefully you carry your gun with you on your late night walks, especially if you live east of western ave.

been there three times in my career. all good shootings, one of them didnt even have a gun. Yes, its stressful at the time and will make you loose sleep. Now looking back at it I realize how much of a waste of energy worrying about it was. Its all the same thing. get into the shooting, think that you did wrong.. will it be justified? could I have done something better? is it on video(which doesnt matter) when will I get sued(soon) holy shit they are gonna take my house!!!( no they wont, you should pray you go to trial because YOU WILL WIN WITH NO PROBLEM and his "witnesses" are awful and get destroyed on the stand) then you feel vindicated... and somewhere mixed in with all that you feel a little guilt somewhere about killing someone... dont forget, you did your job that covers you and protects you legally to do what you did. Its hard to kill somebody but if you have a family and actually THINK about the alternative what could have happened then you will realize that you did what you had to do and what anyone else would have done or not been able to do... some are not able to kill someone and end up getting hurt or killed themselves. you will be commended with ribbons and awards but you will still worry about it from time to time because you are afraid that for some strange reason you will loose your job or fear going to a civil trial. Police officers fear being questioned about their actions. Police officers fear that when they are questioned about actions they are being accused of being guilty and wrongdoing. You need to understand, these lawyers do this to rattle you and scare you. They do it because they want MONEY. They dont sit around and think about your case every single day like you do. Your name just sits on a case file in a big pile on their desk. They do depositions every single day and play the same song and dance for every copper they sue. Ive been sued 19 times in my 27 years as a p.o. Ive been in three shootings killing two people. Ive gone through everything Ive listed above. Looking back I wish that I had not worried about a single thing. There is NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. What you did was proper and it was legal. Dont let any ipra investigator, IAD or civil lawyer tell you different because in the end like every other shooting in the cpd that is a legitimately good shooting you will be fine and it will all be a memory and you too will look back and say, "man that sucked, but I got all worked up for nothing." So the moral of the story here is, St rita is better, Marines are better than the army and Mt greenwood is clearly better than Beverly.

Easy there.... It is not Longwood Avenue - it is Longwood Drive.

When you are telling others that they clearly do not know the layout you need to clearly know the proper street names. Or, you loose creditability with your post.

Just saying...
