"Borrowing" Cops?

501 openings, and how many up north in 016? Zero! But this is happening?
  • Hey SCC, thought you and the other hundreds of Coppers who live in 016 would love this info. For the last 2 weeks 016 has been borrowing 4 pos from 015 to cover the midnight shift. Tonight sat for sun 015 has no bodies to loan, so there are no early cars on midnights. Yes that is correct 6 of 12 cars down tonight.
3rd watch Rapids to work mandatory 2 hours over time and tact starting at 1900 to help cover. But remember there is not a man power shortage.
Safety issue anyone?

Taxpayer coverage issue anyone else?

Hey SCC; How about posting the work sheets from the midnight shifts all around the city (or all the shifts) and maybe post the front office staff's so we see how many are doing NOTHING?

Maybe the Media will pick up on this and embarass the city to start filling these EMPTY SPOTS with Real Bodies and not the RAHM Smoke and Mirror B.S. he is handing out to the community.

The previous Posting of Officer Bailey's Activity sure got results and coverage.

This needs to be done for a few weeks so the public can see what's really out there on the street!

The Taxpayers Deserve to know the TRUTH!

And SCC seems to be the only format that they listen to!

Not sure how wise this is to post.

I understand the outrage of all of the workers in the 16th District, the rage you must feel when you continually get screwed.

I just think posted how short we are can become an alert to the element to even be more bold and head up north for "easy" pickings.

It would be much better to leave 3,4,5,6,7,11 & 15 short staffed on mids, seeing that these areas do not have as much invested in their homes and neighborhoods.

This is exactly how the politicians expect the sheeple to react.
To take officers from a "quiet" tax paying area and redeploy them in an area loaded with the beast is morally wrong and flat out reprehensible.
If these "bad" areas need more officers so be it but it shouldn't come at the expense of a nicer neighborhood.

district can do without tactical
officers wearing blue jeans , arrive late , long roll call , long lunch , maybe a dope pinch , leave early
there are many aggressive officers assigned to a watch , that answer calls , wear uniform , work a full tour and make more arrests than tactical officers
check the numbers of tactical units , not that impressive
disband tactical units , we need 2 man beat cars that work a full tour everyday

No Sergeant on First Watch in 012.

Started off with two scheduled to work the street and an actor on the desk.

Then one got sick and hit the medical the other had to rush his wife to the hospital. There were no spare sergeants to "Borrow" from Area 4.

The only solution available was to pay a Third Watch Sergeant time and a half to be the ONLY Sergeant working over night.

No hiring...

No promotions...

Taxes to pay for 13,000 police...

No coverage in areas we live in...

Taxes spent on "New Americans", The Dream Act and flowerpots...

This really sucks if you work for a living...

So how many people knowing this is going on in the 16th District will
call the 41st Ward Alderman and raise holy hell about all this.

Some of the suburbs and small towns use Dummies (ex CPD bosses will do) placed in squad cars along their roads and intersections to ward off crime. Could work in Chicago. Cops here won't do any more work than a Dummy because they are afraid of getting sacked. The Dummies could be moved around in a U Haul truck to whatever district is short. We could also have Dummies stand behind McGruff at news briefings nodding up and down to agree with all his moronic bullshit. Why pay good money for real cops when we can use Dummies!

Not immmigration who do not want to assimilate to the American way, 1st by speaking English, then working hard. American rule today by politicians and media = don't speak English, don't work and cry about it - receive money, benefits, health care and more - and guess where it comes from - not the politicians or media but yep the real Americans the working class. America will no longer exist with liberal democrats in rule.

I was trying to figure out why you still have so many full duty officers working at HQ. Stopped by the 3rd fl. and couldn't help notice so many PO's. I asked how it was that they were still there when the districts are still in need of manpower. The civ. had the same question, she added that they had sent light duty officers back and kept full duty just to show numbers. It's insane how they would rather keep full duty officers behind a desk instead of fully staffing districts. Why count those officers at all they don't belong to the patrol numbers, That is the reason why I joined the KMA club this dept. Doesn't care about us I'm sure 016 isn't the only one have this problem.

I just took a quick glance at the 2012 on-line, in the Dept of Water Management alone there are:

3- Deputy Commissioners
4- Managing Deputy Commissioners
9- Assistant to the Commissioner
13- Assistant Commissioners
4- Project Administrators
7- Administrative Services Officers (what ever that is)
14- Assistant District Superintendents
2- Project Managers

All of the above 56 positions are paid between $92,000 - $110,000+ ,a year. Is it any wonder this city is in the tank. And oh,by the way..No money for the Police

Posted as a comment on the Sun-Times web-site story,

"Cop witnesses victim beaten outside Water Tower Place, teen held"

"A motive was not known."

Do you think anyone really believes that nonsense?

There are so few Chicago cops now that no neighborhood in this city is safe. Rahm and McCarthy have cut the CPD down so far some districts have to "borrow" officers and sergeants from other districts just to get a few cars up on midnights. This will get worse unless the citizens bring some heat on the politicians to HIRE MORE POLICE.

We have some bad times coming next year, the G-8 Summit, NATO Conference will produce riots downtown that will spread to the neighborhoods. And, what will happen on election night 2012?

We need to get police, hired trained and in place well before these events and just to keep us safe on the streets and in our homes.

So call and or email your Alderman to HIRE MORE POLICE NOW.

But you dog asses in 016 need to wake up and start doing something because the house that is getting broken into may be your own. This is obviously a problem but, just to set the record straight, although the midnight watch could certainly use more manpower there are approximately 9-10 people on IOD, a couple of people on the medical roll and several people are on furlough. This turned out to be the perfect storm.

Yep...keep on busting your ass for this pathetic fucking department, ladies and gentlemen. Parkers and assorted other revenue-makers REALLY make the upper echelon happy, so be sure to give 'em a couple each a day.

And try not to take it too personally when they deny your CU; the family plans you had will have to be cancelled or rescheduled. You see, the manpower shortage issue is YOUR problem, and you will have to sacrifice to help make things right.

And this just in: McStake and the brain dead BrassHoles to float ideas sometime this week in an attempt to create some citywide response team, complete with "special training" in preparation for the big G8. With the salty taste still lingering in the mouths of dejected TRU & MSF pawns, the 35th Street Think Tank is sweating bullets. Their conundrum? Circumventing the contract to avoid using reverse seniority (getting stuck with less-tenured/experienced officers) when no one with an ounce of grey matter will volunteer to be part of the new "elite" C.R.T. (Citywide Response Team).

Rumors of restricted time due is their way of making patrol unbearable to enough folks to entice them to put in their request for this in-the-making unit.

Hey dummy, did it ever cross your feeble mind that NO ONE knows if 55 & out health care will be available in 2013 BECAUSE OUR CONTRACT EXPIRES 30 JUNE 2012.
That will have to be renegotiated come contract time.

And if you absolutely must be a nosey jagoff worried about other coppers' life plans, 46 have EXPRESSED INTEREST IN RETIRING THIS OCTOBER. That is not to say that 46 WILL retire...there's A LOT of steps to take when retiring, so that's why you got the "we're not sure" answer. Many coppers (like YOUR dumb ass) underestimate the amount of planning that goes into retiring, so they often postpone doing so. If you would've done your retirement "homework" you would've known these things, but intelligence obviously isn't your strong suit.

In closing, don't begrudge "The Kid" Shields because he seized an opportunity. He put his money where his mouth is and made a successful run at something you don't have the testicular fortitude to even attempt. Douche bags like yourself would rather sit anonymously behind a keyboard constantly inflating the price (what are we up to now, 65K?) of a vehicle that the MEMBERSHIP OWNS and Shields uses in the interest of the MEMBERSHIP. He isn't lugging the wife and kids up to the Dells in the fucking car.

Glad you're retiring, crybaby, as I don't really see you as an asset in any way, shape or form to the poor schlep that might get stuck in a beat car with you for a tour. Now play detective and see if you can figure out who I am. (Hint: I work at 1412 W. Washington).

A 6-year old dies from a gunshot to the chest and NOT ONE SINGLE FAMILY MEMBER went to the hospital to be with her. I fucking hate this job some days. And if I see ONE wailing family member on the news later I think I'm really going to lose my mind.

8/07/2011 01:35:00 PM

This just makes me really sad. As the years go on, I see more and more disregard for human life. Whether it be the senseless killing over territory, of the lack of caring for ones child. As a pretty optomistic person, I am slowly becoming more and more cynical as the days pass. I go to work, try to take care of my officers as best I can, make sure I get home, and when I do I always peek in on my 1 year old sleeping, and just whisper that I love you. Cus there in such a lack of love in society. I don't care anymore about the citizens that make up the district that I work in. They will get, until I see a change in their approach to life, only the bare minimum of what is expected of me.

The Department is messed up. The establishment would rather have a window dressing (political appointment of command) than compentent leaders to restore the luster that is gone. Society too, wants that window dressing, becus they magically believe that is the best thing, to have someone in charge that "looks like he belongs in that area", instead of the best person for the job.

There are no solutions to these problems, people have tried to change it to no avail, and until we change the mentality of everyone involved, we are just pissing in the wind.

Its because officers are bidding out. Four more next period. Look no further than bosses to see why.

that's what happens when were several thousand officers short, we continue to lose about 30-40 every month to retirement, death, suicide, etc and the city still refuses to hire the police we need. they love shuffling those numbers and lying to the public. it's down right sickening.

district can do without tactical
officers wearing blue jeans , arrive late , long roll call , long lunch , maybe a dope pinch , leave early
there are many aggressive officers assigned to a watch , that answer calls , wear uniform , work a full tour and make more arrests than tactical officers
check the numbers of tactical units , not that impressive
disband tactical units , we need 2 man beat cars that work a full tour everyday

The above post is totally correct, and before you start bashing I am on tact.

The simple answer to solve this problem is for all tact officers to put in a to-from requesting to go back to the watch immediately. If tact officers are not willing to back up their fellow officers on the watch then they are all showing their true colors. Also, before the bs begins I left tact 10 months ago because I saw the writing on the wall. Lets see if tact guys are really all that they believe they are. If they don't leave and go back to the watch, they are nothing but selfish.

Yes. It's because the other 87% of the population allows it to happen.

The real problem is that the bosses that live in the 16th district don't have the stones to speak up to the powers that be and tell them that we need help! I'm sure the same goes for the southside districts where the police live. We pay A LOT of our salaries in taxes to live where we live and deserve to know that if there is a problem while we are working, there will be a few officers to respond. I won't do the usual,"bid to 16 and help us", because downtown obviously doesn't give a flying fuck about the 16th district and is so worried about filling the ghetto districts. I don't want to move to the ghetto to see a police car every now and then. I would love to see some of the officers from TRU/MSF working to keep the homeland safe. Please, to the bigshots of the CPD, give a fuck about us and give us what we deserve. MORE POLICE! Why does the ghetto deserve more police than us? The ghetto mutts roll up to 16 and 17 and there isn't enough police to stop all of them. Fuck the ghetto, I want my family to feel safe while I'm at work! Like I said, the taxpayers deserve to feel safe too.

Because they're actually doing the nuts-and-bolts day-to-day running of the department.

The bosses just take the credit. Most of them were never really the police anyway, so they need someone who's actually been there.

Worry about you, not about what somebody else is doing.

Back in the early 90's, when I worked in 024, it wasn't unusual to come to roll call and see 6 people at each roll call. One for each beat car and 2, 2 man wagons. No rapids, not late cars from 3rd watch. Just us.

The difference was, you got a call and the entire sector, if not watch, would show up. If you wanted the night off, even last minute, it was given and we did what needed to be done. You backed each other up, not only because it was the right thing to do, but because when you wanted TD, you knew the rest of the watch would handled business!

All this Tact bashing is useless. Yes, they make stupid, useless arrests, but they are out there doing some work. I had a traffic stop the other night and a couple of our Tact officers swung by to make sure I was OK. It's a little thing, I know, but if I needed help, they were there. Our other beat cars and Sgt's stop when they see the lights also. If you have a hot job or a traffic stop, you can be certain that another car will take a look to see if all is well. I work in one of the slower districts, but we do look out for each other and I'm proud to say that.

Last weekend I was walking home late from the McCartney concert in 16. Some jamoke in a van stopped and then backed up after seeing me. Instinctively, I crossed Milwaukee and gave him a look communicating that I'd rip his spleen out if he came near me. I'm a pretty good size woman, so he thought better of it and took off.

I was unnerved, but kept moving, lit cigarette in one hand, keys clenched between my fingers in the other. I noticed that there were no squad cars cruising Milwaukee. It was around 00:30 hours.

Forget taking public transportation and walking two blocks. Next time I'll take my car and fight traffic.

Yes, a big-city union president should most definitely be driving a motor scooter. And, he should transport visitors and others who he engages on our behalf via a little wire basket on the handlebars.

GET OVER THE CAR, people. YOU own the car. It's a UNION asset and it will be a UNION asset for many years to come, likely beyond Shields' tenure and the tenure of the president who follows him.

Get real about how adult businessmen conduct business. The lack of understanding about how people operate in business is why we haven't been taken seriously up to now.

It's why people like Emanuel and Quinn dismiss us. If a nice car and a fine scotch help move the machine along, so be it.

As for answering emails, well, maybe they could be polite and start doing that. Because adults in business actually DO respond to emails.

It's people like you that this department does not need. I won't call you officer because the title fits you big. Just because you have a mouth doesn't mean you need to speak. In case you didn't know civ. are paid to do those jobs. If you need to get into nut and bolts and day to day functions, Civ. are the fingerprint experts, civ. clear arrest reports when the districts are in a bind, civ. audit criminal records and in case you didn't know each one of these positions make close to six figures. Make the civ. work for their pay allow the police to help at the district level is what I said. If people like you are afraid I'm sure there's an office spot for you. Next time you pay respect to any of my fellow officers make sure you tell yourself, "they should have only worried about themselves".

For thos that think that HQ is just bursting at the seems with P.O's, think again! it is bare bones. There are not many officers left in the building to move out. There are still quite a few civilians, alot of which are some director or manager, making well over 6 figures, with minimal tasks, other than telling subordinates what to do. I'd rather have a P.O. in there with access to, and handling, sensitive info, personal data etc. Put the light duty people in there. Also, free up the mia's being held captive in callback already. Next, all the light duty people should be ineligable for any promotions; seen it too many times, people are light duty and unfit for the street UNTIL they get test results, then miraculously enough, they are cleared for full duty, just in time for that promotion to det or sgt; it's bullshit and shouldn't happen. ( I know we haven't had any promotions, but when we do, we'll see this again.)
