The Cycle Continues
The 7400 block of South Sangamon had a street party Saturday night and little Arianna Gibson didn’t want to miss it.
The 6-year-old was all giggly over spending the weekend with her grandmother, who lives on the block, and playing with friends at the party.
The kids drew chalk drawings on the pavement, bounced in a jumping-jack and wolfed down cupcakes. It was the kind of neighborly event that residents said has made the block feel like a refuge from the violence that surrounds them in Englewood.
Then the kids were packed off to bed. Shortly after dawn, the block was a refuge no more.
The article continues with all sorts of talk of vengeance and retaliation and promises of payback. We have no reason to doubt any of it based on past history. Be careful boys and girls.

Um.....cupcakes and chalk? By the looks of this victim's family members it was more like pass the mr. Pure with vodka and hit the crack pipe. Sure, no kid deserves to die that way, but this little girl was doomed when she was born. What about her teenaged play cousins in the house? Probably the actual targets, but let's all pretend it's the random, faceless, responsibility-free blanket of VIOLENCE that's 'killing our children'. Don't hold anyone responsible-- just make this another story that's labeled a tragedy, when it"s really just business as usual in a part of Chicago that might as well be another planet.

Listened to Auntie on 780 yesterday....her exact words "if you want to go at somebody, go at at them, why do dey have to go after her?" Like she was the intended target and it is ok to go after someone, just don't miss.
I just wonder which one of Grandmama's "babies" the shooter was really after.

Yeah, I caught that on the news. 6 years old, 17 years old, and 18 years old is not what you would call a normal slumber party...
What was that stuff I glimpsed in a Jewel liquor department the other day? Some kind of plastic tube of sugary lemonade concentrate. "The alcohol is in it!"

Totally agree. Getting tired of the 'novella' style of so-called reporting.
And the social commentary by the newsreaders on tv, as well.
