Thought you'd like to know, full scale combat at the Lollapalooza Music Fest tonight. Groups of 100 or more youths were rushing the entry points in an attempt to get into the main venue. Security was completely overwhelmed. No idea how many got caught, arrested or ejected, and no idea how many got in with what kind of weapons. Security was completely outnumbered.

The exiting crowds reminded me of the masses of people leaving the fireworks on the former 3rd of July fireworks. Complete mayhem on the streets. And yes, staff security and tact teams were completely outnumbered. Same thing happened on 05 Aug where a group bum rushed the gates and a Sgt. From 013 suffered a broken thumb, chipped tooth and swollen face. But who cares, once the tens of thousands leave the park they're 001st & 018th Districts' problem. Considering many of the 001st dist cars where 99 and one car was down.
Surprise, surprise no openings in 001. Maybe mcnumbnuts should dump more dog ass clout babies from their spots so we can get more bodies in 001. Not all the guys in 001 made phone calls to get there.
How many Officers had to work there rdo instead of relaxing with family and enjoying themselves? Why can this department not hire the proper number of Officers to ensure proper service and attention is given to the citizens of this schity? The real problem is not the number of security present but the actual amount of security paid for by the venue. as usual in shitcago the big corporate sponsor is allowed millions in tax breaks but claims broke when it is time to pay for security. any officer that gets hurt should sue the man (perry ferrell). many posters are correct let the jagoffs run wild, why risk getting hurt even if you are on the clock. security and the police were outnumbered at least 75 to 1. men and women of the CPD be safe and get home to your family after every shift. thats what matters

There is no good reason that any of their trucks and employees should be able to drive while breaking all of those traffic laws we know they must be breaking. No more double parking. WBBM-AM just reported that there was an incident in front of Water Tower Place last night around 8:30 p.m. Officers spotted a group of 20 or more youths "jumping up and down" and that was when they noticed they were beating a victim. When police approached, the group scattered with only one being caught. I believe they said the kid was 14 years old and is now being charged with mob action.
The news brief ended with how the victim was not going to press charges. I don't see this anywhere on their website (or elsewhere for that matter).

Daley's nephew Vanecko arranged this concert without paying any city taxes or fees. Let them provide the security. Gone are the days when CPD had enough personnel to supplement big events. We simply do not have the ability and the press continues to ignore this major issue. But the young officers will continue to risk their lives to stop gate crashers?? Who cares if they hop a fence?
On the editorial page in the Saturday, 06Aug11 Tribune, they actually did an editorial about Lollapalooza and the exclusive, (until 2018), no bid contract that was structured by former mayor daley's nephew, Mark VANECKO. The contract was awarded to a non profit group, "the Parkways Foundation". Non profits are exempt from paying a 5% tax on amusements, the permits and the three day use of Grant Park are free. Lollapalooza gives Parkways up to 10.25% of it's gross profits, along with all-access passes and complimentary tickets for Parkways' board members. What is the middleman's profit? and who is on Parkways board? It never ends! The Vaneckos can get away with everything from misuse of our pension funds to even murder and nothing will be done about it. You know it has to really be bad if the Tribune actually mentioned it!

My team worked it Saturday. Day off canceled. Everything was quiet until about noon. We had the entrance at Morore St. and had alot of kids just running past the security at the gate into the festival. Security just stood there and yelled at them as they ran past. They had a "no pursuit" order and we were told to write anovs to anyone caught jumping the fence because they didn't want us off our post. We were also told not to chase anyone because they didn't want any iod incidents. Security was way under staffed. The ones that they did catch were handed over to us and we issued them tickets and sent them on their way. Coppers were calling for help breaking up groups of 100 or more outside the fence on Lake Shore trying to find a way in. There was a Facebook page instructing the kids to meet at the bean and then rush past security to get in. Other than the fence jumpers, I saw little other problems. No fights, lots of people thanked us for being out there.
They behave that way because the media and politicians let them. They are more worried about being polictically correct and bow to the beast. They have created a demon and will never admit it. It is gonna get worse. I say let them do it as well. step aside and just say not enough man power.
I have worked Lollapalooza before....but this was the worst organized event I ever had to work, not worth the overtime on RDO.(no lunch/bathroom breaks)
I sure hope the Editor in Chief at WBBM is getting special perks for lying to us.

No new dicks in 2011 or 2012. In fact, there is a debate as to wether the department can dump 10% back to patrol.
The department's new focus is patrol. They are getting rid of SVU this year. All dicks will be assigned to violent crimes by next year. Murders, rapes, shootings, and armed robberies, along with high profile cases as needed will be the only regular follow up. Patrol will phone in burglary and strong armed robbery arrests and conduct any investigations for these crimes at the watch commander's discretion. If needed, the WC will use dicks in the follow up investigation, but the sole responsibility will rest with patrol. Missings will be handled by the watch commander and abuse allegations by DCFS with patrol assists when needed.
The bottom line is district commanders will be in charge of and responsible for resolving all property and low level crimes. The Superintendent thinks more detectives would be a waste of manpower.

Maybe the fencing on the Narragansett side will temporarily cut down on what you usually see there, people dragging a kid in each hand, running diagonally through the heavy traffic like they were deperately crossing a border or something. Actually, they run across from the huge family picnics in the park to use washrooms at the Brickyard.

The only thing they respect is a wooden baton across the shins ( I am dating myself). However, the black punk wildings are really something new in this country. Theyhave been going on for years in the black areas raiding stores, but did not spread to the white areas until recently. It seems they are going on around the country in many cities. Mostly white kids. They organized via Facebook and Twitter. Originally a bunch of them met by the bean and then they slowly moved towards the gates. When the first few ran towards the gates the rest of them followed. It's all on youtube. On youtube search for Lallapalooza riot and you'll see it. My kid found all of this shit on Facebook, Twitter and on youtube.

WBBM-AM just reported that there was an incident in front of Water Tower Place last night around 8:30 p.m. Officers spotted a group of 20 or more youths "jumping up and down" and that was when they noticed they were beating a victim. When police approached, the group scattered with only one being caught. I believe they said the kid was 14 years old and is now being charged with mob action.
The news brief ended with how the victim was not going to press charges. I don't see this anywhere on their website (or elsewhere for that matter).

Want to solve some of these problems? First, everyone on the detail has to wear headgear - that would be the baby blue riot helmet. While on post everyone wears sap gloves and holds their "real" baton, the one made from wood in their hand as they greet the people entering the festivals. Gate crashers and such would probably reevaluate their intentions.
Have we reached a point where large public gatherings in Chicago - of any sort - are impossible?

Try to comprehend. The "liberal" fucking victim refused to press charges. Meaning he/she is not going to show up or cooperate in court so why should the tax payers waste money for the the states attorney to attempt to prosecute. It's not always Anita and the S/As office that are at fault(most of the time it is) but rather the liberal tards who don't want to press charges on the "misguided youth" after being pummeled by a group of savages.
Tribune ran a Lollapalooza-crashing story in this morning's paper, and it was also posted on BN Sunday evening (with comments still up, though some were removed. My favorite exchange: "How do you know these kids aren't the Black American Youth?" "Because the comment board is still open").
Story ncluded quotes from a stupid 15-year-old who gave his name, saying he was not so much there for the music as for the mob action.
Clearly the way to force the newspapers to do their job is to get the news onto the radio and TV.

WBBM AM 780 began simulcasting their broadcast on 105.9, in response, apparently, to the arrival of this new all-news FM station. You really can't read. AGREE 100%!! The uniform "standards" have gone to hell lately. SO many variations, exceptions...less a uniform now, more Wrigley Field security look and feel to it. Officers' appearances no longer "command respect". The baseball cap has got to go..it worked for The Beaver and Lincoln Park yuppies, but presents no air of authority.
Same goes for the pants with pockets for a tape measure and hammer. We the Police or Washburne Trade School grads?
Go back to a more formal, militay look. No? Take a look at Illinois State Troopers. Crisp uniforms, no slovenly, lazy ass look to them at all.
