Divide and Conquer
And the Teachers begin to cave, some for as little as $800:
- Mayor Rahm Emanuel is getting his wish -- partially -- regarding longer school days for Chicago Public Schools, and how it happened has some in the Chicago Teachers Union crying foul.
Two CPS schools next week, Genevieve Melody Elementary School and Skinner North Classical School, will add 90 minutes to their day. A third, STEM Magnet Academy, will extend its day by 90 minutes beginning in January.
Teachers at Melody and Skinner will be given a pay hike, a "lump sum of two percent equal to average teachers salary," explained CPS spokeswoman Becky Carroll. That amounts to $1,275, she said.
Additionally, the two schools will be given $150,000 each to make it happen, either by hiring aides or additional teachers.
When STEM Magnet Academy extends its day in the new year, it will receive $75,000. Teachers there will receive lump sum payouts of $800.
Now watch Rahm and Brizard exploit this across the system. And remember when Rahm tries to do the same thing to us. We've already seen officers willing to sell out contract protections for units and blue jeans. Shortsightedness will kill us all.
Labels: we got nothing
148 Comments:
Yet you have PO s in 003 circumventing the contract being in incident teams. You work when the commander wants you to start. Why? When are we going to wake up and tell Jersey shore to stick it.
So where's the accountability I don't get it.
The teachers work 90 minutes more doing what.... Supervising extended recesses, nap time, are the grammar schools going to add a calculus class or what?
Longer doesn't necessarily mean better.
Are we the taxpayers suppose to be rejoicing because now our kids may have a higher math and science score to work at WalMart or doing the presidents shovel ready jobs?
Everything else is being outsourced to Asia and it doesn't really matter what scores you have from school at a corporate CEO perspective. The bottom line is that a MBA grad can be had in China for $286/ A MONTH. That's a month not a week. I don't care it you happen to be an honor roll student we can't compete like that unless we adopt the Chinese culture of slave labor, pollution and political corruption and subsidies.
What a joke.
I don't give a shit about the lazy ass CPS teachers union. Don't compare them to us. My kid goes to a CPS school and I would like his teachers to have HIS best interests in mind, not their union's political bullshit. I welcome a longer school day and a longer school year. If they don't like it, let them find a job somewhere else.

What about the bike girl from 012 detailed to 023 that is writing on-duty coppers parking tickets IN THE POLICE LOT!!!
This is not a joke, or some made up rumor. This is fact.
What the fuck has this department come to.
Once again someone doesn't tell the whole story. The officer that was written works in 013 he is also a bike officer who refuses to assist in arrests or searches of arrestees. Sits on his ass and will not assist because HE DOES NOT BELIEVE THAT ARRESTS ARE CONSTITUTIONAL. Let an arrestee keep a knife going into the lockup. He has a motorcycle with 2004 temp plates and no city sticker that he parks in the 023 lot Also REFUSES to purchase license plates or city sticker because he feels that it is UNFAIR TAXATION. Asshole rides this motorcycle to and from work. You and I have to purchase city stickers. and plates why shouldn't he? The question should be why the fuck does everyone put up with this guys shit. He is the kind of guy that gets other coppers hurt and would probably be protesting against us during the G8. The bike girl from 012 got fucked over by him so she fucked him back. Sounds like she has more balls that you do!!!
9/02/2011 11:08:00 AM
Thanks new LT from IAD. You are the only one besides the wacko girl from 012 detailed to 023 that thinks it's COOL to write other coppers tickets on their personal cars, while their out there working the beat and their car is parked in the police lot.
But of course, you are a house mouse from IAD, so that's what you do. You don't see blue, you see a way to screw (your fellow cops).
Assholes. Maybe I should use their CPS email and direct them to this blog. Instill some remorse.
We need solidarity amongst our unions to fight the impending disaster ahead with Rahm. Cps, cpd, cfd all. Educate your colleagues, so many are clueless!
Signed,
A police loving Cps teacher
It's Daleys failures across the board and Mr Rah is there to cover them up and to be the pit bull against city workers. Daley needs to be held accountable for the mismangement of the city. Can Da former Mayo be sued in Civil Court? He has money and it should be placed back into the city coffers!! As far as Mr Rah he must be fought tooth and nail. He should really go after the former Da Mayo not the city worker.
This is how midget 9.5 manhandles people.
Hope we're ready when he sets his sights on our next contract and our pensions!
Didn't Rahm speak at a dinner last night and raise $40,000 for a couple minute speech?
Emanuel helps judge raise about $40,000
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/politics/clout/chi-emanuel-helps-judge-raise-about-40000-20110902,0,2689889.story
So here's the question.
Why isn't Rahm giving more speeches to raise money for the bankrupt city or the police department or teachers or whatever?
The man is such a revenue generation machine that people will line up with their checkbooks open to hear a few words we should buy him a gypsy wagon and send him on tour giving talks to help the city out of debt.
Seriously!
After all, there should not be any "no trespassing" signs put up when it comes to solving this debt crisis.
This isn't some sort of sacred cow is it? We should leverage the assets that we have and if that means giving speeches to raise money for the city I think he should do it as mayor. He can do it for himself or for his friends why not us too.
Speeches shouldn't be reserved only for campaign contributions and personal gain.
If there's that kind on revenue to be had by giving them send the man and tour and stop hammering the citizens with taxes and fees.
What's so hard about that?
Speechless?
Divide huh. Sounds like us!!!
So why hasn't McGoofy signed a contract to work for this city? The plot is thickening.....
I am really liking the idea of 25 alderman. Think how easy it would be to use the well established police district boundaries for a ward remap. Voila - one ward office, one alderman, one district. Saving how many millions(don't alderpersons get @ $1million each annually for their wards)? Should improve efficiency in the delivery of services too -no overlapping. How about some number crunching? Reader, BGA you game?
Never forget our elected officials still got their 6% raise this year!
Yes everyone has to sacrifice except these thieves!!!
And next year 6% again....
Whats wrong with this system!!!
Remember this word "CAPTAINS" they sold out the rest of the department before they are about to do it again.
You got that right!! no matter how bad the city treats us these people in units work in overdrive to keep thier spot...They undercut the union but they dont care! if the city went to the guys in gang intell and tell them they must leave the union or they all get dumped i bet 80% leave the union
The good thing about pulling this shit on the police is, the coward rat fuck sellouts don't have the ability to vote for things for themselves.
This is where the teacher's union fucked up. For some reason, they allowed for individuals or separate schools to vote outside union membership for personal gains while still being a member of the union and taking advantage of union bargaining.
With the CPD, no member has the authority to accept changes to any contractually protected item against the wishes of the membership majority.
THAT'S what a union's for.
So now Efuckuel is hoping the CTU attempts to move to have these schools removed from further bargaining so's to further cause problems.
All the CTU has to do now when negotiation is separate the judas fucks at those 3 schools and ensure that their acts against all teachers are compensated accordingly in the next contracts.
They've put themselves at risk in further bargaining because the entire membership can vote to have these schools personnel separated out for their own negotiations by the union that will ensure these cowards are paid no more than the rest of the membership.
Off topic: Doty watch
UCPD 1st Deputy John Doty continues to swing the madman's axe throughout our Dept. It now has been said that just about every watch commander that remains here has received some sort of suspension
for a day or more for 'failure to make a timely notification' to Doty and the rest of the exempt staff
here when incidents occur on the watches.. In each instance, watch commanders have explained that notifications via the UCPD's XMail/blackberry
system have been submitted after watch commanders were informed by investigating officers
of robberies, burglaries, mental breakdowns of
students (this is also a common occurrence) when
the officers have completed their investigations.
This reasoning is not good enough for Doty, and
suspensions are quickly administered. This bipolar
style of management has had a marked effect on
all of the watch commanders here now. Doty has fired 3 of them this year. Another has submitted
his resignation in writing, effective next week, we've
been told. The Lt. who has submitted his resignation has been subject to what amounts to
a hostile work environment here for well over 18 months. We can only imagine his relief to be
leaving what used to be a fine private PD. We've
also heard that Doty will announce more changes
here next week, and that another round of projected layoffs will occur, with the axe to fall on several Sgts.
here. As it stands now we have very few Sgts. that
are assigned to the two watches. Most Sgts. are assigned to our Community Services division, which
is structured like your CAPS offices. Now that all of
our squads include GPS, perhaps Doty feels that Sgts. have become obsolete, since officers can be
tracked via computer. Most, if not all of our current roster of Sgts. have been with the UCPD for some time, and began their time here as patrolmen, being promoted up through the ranks. Forcing them out will have an even more negative effect here, as Doty pushes for promotions of patrolmen to Sgt. and above while slicing to ribbons the current roster of
experienced senior supervisors. We've pointed out before that anyone who is promoted here beyond the rank of patrolman does so with no union or job protections whatsoever, their future held hostage to the ongoing meltdown of Doty. As you can all imagine, the talk around here is, 'who the hell would want to risk that?'
And yet, with the continuing talk of layoffs/firings
'due to budgetary concerns,' the UCPD continues to
hire more people to executive ranks of the Dept. We've all scratched out heads trying to figure out
how the University of Chicago can allow this bullshit to go on, with so few sworn members at the rank of patrolman to actually patrol the streets of the UofC
campus. We've also scratched our heads seeing the expenditures of the Tahoes purchased for these new executives. The University has spared no expense in these new top line Tahoes, they've got just about every option you can imagine. Why are they spending so much money on executive level gas guzzling SUVs for the execs, and hiring more of them, with so little resources spent to maintain an effective number of patrolmen to battle rising crime rates throughout the campus? You'd think the students and their families would be outraged at this, but there's barely a ripple in the water.
I don't give a shit about the lazy ass CPS teachers union. Don't compare them to us. My kid goes to a CPS school and I would like his teachers to have HIS best interests in mind, not their union's political bullshit. I welcome a longer school day and a longer school year. *********
Like it or not, if Rahm did it to them, he'll do it to you. ALL union workers need to stick together on this. The city will take small things away from one set of workers and use that as a precident for doing the same kind of thing to another set.
Let's say 41 weeks in the school year. 41 weeks x 5 days (maybe less)= 205 day x 90 min (per year) = 18450 (total extra minutes per year) 800 (the money given to them) / 18450 (total extra minutes) =.04. (or 4 cents a minute) .04 X 60 = 2.40 (two dollars and 40 cents an hour) or 3.60 cents for an extra 90 minutes approxiately. Maybe teachers are used to getting paid this amount for their work? Not getting paid enough in my opinion. It might be hard to get quality education delivered for such a price. Fortunately we aren't in China. At such a wage a teacher may not likely have the best interests of our children at heart. I despise how the politicans basically use our children as pawns in a game. Wonder why Rahm sent his kid to private school? It makes total sense to me especially knowing what he knows is probably going to happen. For this reason, I can't wait to move out of the city.
Do teachers work 2080 hours annually? If not then its hard to feel sorry for them.
the cops better stick together...
The real issue is that the teachers' contract entitled them to 4% pay raises, but Emanuel's school board broke that contract. In America contracts are supposed to be binding. In this new America with all of its change, contracts mean nothing. I AM DISGUSTED and fed up! We as a people cannot trust people who break contracts. It is really long past due to apply the tar and feathers.
OT--
Under "Rahm's Hatchet Man" someone wrote about the city paying $28 million to a "Minority" owned business whose minority status and all records were subpoenaed (sp?) by the Feds. Even after the subpoena, the city still paid them $3 million.
The lawyer for the firm?
ALLAN MASTERS, FATHER OF MIKE MASTERS....
Here's part of the article:
Allan W. Masters, a former Cook County judge, is the lawyer for City Construction, whose headquarters are on the far Northwest Side. “There are some supposed issues that I don’t think are issues,” Mr. Masters said, declining to discuss the case further.
According to the subpoena, which was sent in July 2010, a special grand jury that convened in March 2010 wanted “any and all records related to the application, certification, participation, re-certification and termination of City Construction Co.” in the city government’s contracting set-aside program for businesses owned by minorities and women.
During the long tenure of former Mayor Richard M. Daley, which ended with his retirement in May, the minority-business program was a frequent source of scandal.
********
I will go back and pick up the link and post it--it'll make your blood boil--this is why there is no money in the city!!
Here's the original post about the "Minority" business and the link to the article.
Might be worth writing about SCC:)

Shortsightedness will kill us all.
WILL?? It already has. The backstabbing and stomping by these new kids is unreal. But thats what you get for an over educated kid. They think they have something owed to them. These little pukes will sell out for anyting to get a spot on tac. Tac is BS.
This is where Masters x 3 gets his juice--I'm sure if Daley didn't give him some plum spots, Daddy-o would bring Daley et. al. down like a house of cards:

Longer doesn't necessarily mean better.
````````````````````
Grammar schools would not add a calculus class because many kids still struggle with the basics in math, which is why more time is needed. Most CPS kids read well below their grade level, which is why more time is needed to read in class. The more time students get to practice, the better they will get. So, longer actually does mean better for CPS students.
Students are currently in school for 5.75 hours/day. After subtracting time for in-class breakfast, lunch, "resource" classes (gym, art, etc.), bathroom breaks, and frequent standardized testing, there is very little time left for instruction.
The current system does not allow most students who start school behind grade level to ever get caught up. It needs to be changed.
Plan for it. They will try to turn the FOP against the PBPA and vice versa. Come contract negotiations all ranks NEED to be on the same page because the city will attack a lot of our benefits and give us nothing. The articles in the papers and the stories on TV news already bare that out. We need solid leadership from our union boards this time around, more than ever before.
Many teachers agree and are embarrassed by the union's constant attempts to block anything that will help students. Their mission seems to be to make teachers' lives as easy as possible.
Don't worry, with the 'Boy Wonder' at our helm we've got nothing to worry about.
He sounds so ignorant and inept I can hardly stand to listen when he is interviewed.
Get a speech coach! Do something about your delivery!!!!!!
We're doomed. Surely doomed.
I heard Brizard ranting about better curriculums and better classes, but not ONCE did I hear him mention better PARENTING and better study habits.
It's all the teachers' fault, not the lazy, unsupervised children who are the spawn of useless ghetto rats.
Thank you President Johnson. This is a fine society you created. I hope worms have eaten your useless carcass to dust.
a war is coming , im a firefighter who's father retired a sgt on the worlds greatest police dept. (cpd). we the cfd and cpd need to join forces before our pensions are gone and our pay is cut! let's remember without us this city falls into mass chaos.i remember seeing my father promoted to sgt.and the pride he had being the sgt. of police.the politicians have no pride or devotion to duty that most of us have.and yes my father always looked out for his men,did the things that would make you follow him into the gates of hell.this world is ass backwards now,lets take benifits from the military,cops,firefighters etc.. i hope for both are jobs we have people in place to protect us,stay safe out there brothers and sisters.
On Thursday at 26th and Cal the court sign in room wasn't open until 8:56 am. There were about 100 officers waiting outside the room. Not everyone was able to time stanp their slips on time. It was another way for Rahm to save some money.
Ever notice that schools in the ghetto have fancy titles. College prep?, Math academy? learning centers? You got to make them believe in their schools.
Multi millionaire Mike Bloomberg of NYC draws a one-dollar salary to save the city money. How much, again, does multi millionaire Rahm make? He likes NYC so much that he brought Brizard & McCarthy here why doesn't he follow the lead of Bloomberg?
A longer school day is only meant to keep the ghetto kids off the street a little longer before they continue killing.
Your mentality is exactly what the mayor wants. Divide and conquer is his plan. It starts now and involves every labor force dealing with the city. Lazy ass? Your a dumbass.
Your right, SCC. It's the “all about me” generation. A few CPS teachers cave in for a few bucks now, but in the long run they will be working a lot longer for a lot less. Your also right about the coppers who willing give up hard won rights for a few bucks, not to mention those who would sell their mothers to work plain clothes, a unit, or some place that is not in a district. All you coppers think the department and city can screw with you now, wait, you haven't seen anything yet and then you will really have something to complain about. “United we stand, divided we fall”! Sad, very sad, indeed!!! I am glad I only have five years left.
Remember, the Sgts voted down their contract with 80% no votes. Stay unified, stay strong!!
The teachers who accepted this may be assholes, but shame on the teachers union. I believe its called direct dealing with the members. They need to file with the Illinois labor board.
I would like you to remember your words when we start getting fucked when it’s OUR turn in the contract negations. This is the EXACT short-sightedness that’s going to fuck us ALL!
I am a copper and my wife is a CPS teacher. SSC, nobody has published the math, but this increase is over 20% in work day with only 2% raise. This is the rawest of deals. If they only extended the year without extending each day the increase would be over 10 additional weeks (between the 90 minutes per day and added two weeks). They are actually taking a severe pay cut of over 20% for the sake of the city... I mean children.
I don't give a shit about the lazy ass CPS teachers union. Don't compare them to us.
You miss the point, Rham is making them work 262 hours extra a year, and the "SELL-OUTS" that get $800 are working for $3.10 a hour. Just like our own who in the 90's were more concerned with our retro checks, then giving up or paying more for are negotiated benefits.
REMEMBER our contract is up June 2012!
I don't give a shit about the lazy ass CPS teachers union. Don't compare them to us. You are a total asshole. When they come for your benefits, you'll just need to shut the fuck up and take it.
How about trying to understand that they enemy is the one on the fifth floor of city hall and in the White House. They are trying to screw us all, and you play into their thieving hands with your bullshit.
Then again, you probably didn't vote or if you did, voted for these communist assholes.
12:23-great idea. F*#k everyone who isn't you. It's all about you, right? Remember that when others sell your pension out because it doesn't affect them, or when you lose uniform allowance.
It's your shortsighted bullish*t that gives Rahman an entry into busting the unions. The teachers were the second group attacked; the Teamsters and laborers were first with privatizing recycling; janitors (SEIU) are next. Do you think Rahman cares about cops, firefighters, or anything other than what he wants.
There will always be scabs. The firefighters had theirs in the 1980's and we'll have ours too.
The truly pathetic part is how LITTLE they sold out for. If there's no unity, the city will win. And from the sound of the comments here, they'll have a pretty easy time with us.
How many comments on how to cut what we have? Are you nuts? Are you trying to do Rahm's job for him? How about shutting up and sticking together for a change before he has us working for nothing and using the LINK card to feed our families.
Longer school day will only mean more wasted time. The teachers will not out this too good use especially the ones who are tenured and disgruntled. Anyone ever notice a pattern that the uglier ones are the ones parents have the most problems with ? The pretty ones are good teschers. Don't believe me, start looking yourself. A confident teacher is a good teacher but most administrators don't want teachers putting in their extra techniques. They just want them to teach in uniformity. Basically anyone can be a sub, just follow the book like a robot and presto you are a cps teacher. This 90 extra minutes will only help the lazy parents and give them a longer break
OT- Any word on the condition of the PO in 023 that was tasered by his own partner? Hope he takes a long time off!
New Academy class stars 17 October
The teachers work 90 minutes more doing what.... Supervising extended recesses, nap time, are the grammar schools going to add a calculus class or what?
-----------------------------------
I know someone that works at that school and basically they're just extending all classes, lunch, and study hall by adding a few minutes and will add a computer class that will be monitored by aides.
Soon CPD will be the CPD prior to FOP. A handshake to be backhanded at anytime the mayor pleases.
So at what price did the baseball caps, knit caps, shorts, 4&2, etc ultimately cost the FOP? The bargaining power of the union!
Except for the first couple contracts the city has cried broke ever since, though handing out huge bid/no bid city "old boy" contracts with a wink of the eye, and the FOP has gone along with 1% here, 2% there a year; couple with being the last to settle over 3 years of barganing. Yeah FOP has no power, other than to raise the dues everytime a new contract is approved; thereby negating the raise.
Watch for Mayor Twinkle Toes to do more harm to the CPD in his first 4years than Daley has done in 21 years.
OT: concerning the info from the Fusion center in the last thread about the terrorists in the schools. I just found out from my 7 yr old son that his teacher told the class that a man that protects the president was in the school to look for bad guys. Anybody have a similar story. Our kid is in an catholic school. I'm guessing the catholic schools are softer targets than public ( police working security there) . Also sep 1st was the anniversary of Beslan
Emmanuel is a super scumbag. Don't doubt he has had his ruthless henchmen (women) out in the schools making threats and promises. With the economy as bad as it is many are worried about their jobs. If this administration targets you then your job could be gone in an instant. This is how Rahm plays. I own the ball so play it my way or else. Divide and conquer. Old as time itself. The mator feels if he can defeat the teachers union then he can roll over all the others with ease. FOP better get in the trenches.
I don't give a shit about the lazy ass CPS teachers union. Don't compare them to us. My kid goes to a CPS school and I would like his teachers to have HIS best interests in mind, not their union's political bullshit. I welcome a longer school day and a longer school year. If they don't like it, let them find a job somewhere else.
Longer school day why? So you don't have to watch them.
You cannot compare the Teachers Union with the Police Union.
While the majority of teachers care, a large percentage of the CTU doesn't want it's members to work, they could care less about the students. Karen Lewis reminds me of Father Faker, a loud mouth about gimme gimme gimme.
I applaud the three schools that did what is right for the kids.
The teachers want to be professionals? Then start acting like it ! Keep the schools open from 8am to 5pm and keep the teachers in the building the entire time. They can grade their phantom papers in the building. Four weeks vacation each year, thats it! Most people work long hours for the money and benefits teachers get. I am tired of their whinning. It can be a hard job, but the whinning is just too much. The system is set up to benefit the adults and not the kids.
Remember all the wicked stories about Emmanuel when he worked in Washington. He is a dirtbag low life who will do ANYTHING to get his way. He was born and raised in a culture that rewards lies and back stabbing. At least Daley would stick his pinky in the air to test the winds. This mutt wants to stick his finger up your arce.
The issue is simple: Rahm is part of the Obama team, as is Duncan who was appointed to the Obama cabinet when Rahm was Chief of Staff. Duncan was brought here by Daley to bust the Union and transition to Charter Schools. THE DEMOCRATS OF TODAY ARE NOT THE DEMOCRATS OF THE PAST. THE NEW DEMS WANT TO ELIMINATE UNIONS AND TAKE CONTROL FOR THEMSELVES. YET THE UNIONS ARE DUMB ENOUGH TO FINANCE THE DEMOCRAT PARTY.
Last night on WBBM newsradio they were reporting on the City of Chicago budget problems. It was reported that the Emmanuel administration is NOT ruling out Police Department lay-offs to help balance the budget.
My partner & I both heard it and looked at each other in disbelief!
Anyone else hear it?
Hey there SCC, Off subject, but look who has just magically re-appeared . . . Monique Bond! She's now the spokesperson for the Illinois State Police. lol
Here's a link where she's commenting on the death of the woman killed on the Eisenhower, apparently about a half hour after State Police released her after a DUI arrest:
All they want is more "free" daycare.
Talked to a principal at one of the CPF schools last week. They know nothing about the planning of this 90 extra minutes of school. When she asked the higher up down town what exactly they want done fot the extra 90 minutes the higher ups said they don't know yet!
You would think since they are crying like crazy that they need this 90 more minutes that they would already know what to do with it. Chickens running with their heads off
Hey dick head, what u r saying about the teachers is exactly what people r saying about us. Read again and replace teachers with cops and you'll c what I mean. No need to bash the teachers either. They have it rough sometimes. Don't think they should b making anything even close to what we make, but I'm not going to bash them for making it this far $$$
Screw the CTU. Their greed and incompetence is stunning. Ask yourself, do you know of even ONE CPS employee who sends their kids to those thug academies?
CPS is one of the highest paid systems in the country with the shortest school day and year, yet they want mo money?
What do the kids in CPS call graduates of private and suburban school? Sir or Maam and will do so for the rest of their lives.
hey guy, everyone can say the same thing about us, "if they don't like it, let them find a job somewhere else" I know there are lazy cps teachers, and I know there are lazy officers. they deal with some shit too, have you seen the youth these days
EVERYTHING about Shitcago Government is a sham.
VOTE ONLY FOR CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATES IN THE 2012 ELECTION, IF YOU'RE TIRED OF ALL THIS SOCIALIST BULLSHIT.
Watch the pension fund boyz and girlz this clown is not going to do anything to make it stable or save it. Check to see if contributions are being made by the city.
The teachers pension fund is suing the the board for 32 million it failed to put in the fund.
EYES WIDE OPEN
Teachers are, for the most part, spoiled little liberal cry-babies. The Democommies pander to them forever because of their Union block voting power. The greedy Unions soak up all their Union dues and Party with them, then have to put on an act that they're concerned about the teachers when contract talks come around. Just like ALL City Workers, they get a little raise, which is immediately engulfed back via the excessive tax increases by the Crook County, Shitcago, State of Felon-ois, and Federal Government. All a scam people, Vote Republican, and just play the Democommie Game and don't let ANYONE know.
I don't give a shit about the lazy ass CPS teachers union. Don't compare them to us. My kid goes to a CPS school and I would like his teachers to have HIS best interests in mind, not their union's political bullshit. I welcome a longer school day and a longer school year. If they don't like it, let them find a job somewhere else.
Lazy ass teachers? What is your involvement in your son's education? Is the teacher lazy or the parent who does not get involved in his education? And what will your son do suring the extra 90 minutes? Have you attended any school meetings? i bet you could care less so long as they baby sit your son. Your the fool. Get involved asshat.
Incident teams , come in late , long lunch , get a dope arrest , contact cards and leave early .
That's why they don't care about contract , dummy.
Our union couldn't bring issue to the city braking STATE LAW by not making required contributions!! Or protect our pension from the double dipping "Hubermans" of the system. The only place more corrupt than Chicago is China...... Maybe. Keep dreaming about anything good coming from being in the union..... Jokes on you! Can I get another 1% raise please.... I'd be happy to have that stuck up my a## again.
Take it easy on the teachers. CPS teachers don't have an easy job. Ninety-nine percent of parents who send their children to CPS don't give a rat's ass about their child's education. The other one percent are delusional. How can anyone really learn when they are surrounded by ghetto rats who don't want to be there and have no desire to learn? Expecting CPS teachers to provide a quality education under these conditions is like requiring the police to eliminate crime in the ghetto with their hands tied. Bottom line: ever since the mutts were allowed to take over the schools, private schools have been the only realistic option for a quality education.
You are right Second City. So many coppers and all the current bosses will sell out for much less.
I attended one of the recent Comp Stat meetings and one of the (well known) bosses stood up and kissed Gerry's ass so bad by stating he was the best thing that happened to the CPD and that the CPD is getting better in touch with the ghetto areas because of his vision and tactics. I was so embarrassed by his ass kissing that I thought everyone was thinking the same thing but upon his conclusion EVERY boss stood up and clapped for about 3 minutes straight. We are all doomed it reminded me of how it was in 1939 in Germany.
The goal of all political parties is to break the Unions. Dem or Rep, we are entering a new world and had better unite. You think its bad now, try working for an idiot like Penny with NO protection. WAKE UP, Boys and Girls.
I don't give a shit about the lazy ass CPS teachers union. Don't compare them to us. My kid goes to a CPS school and I would like his teachers to have HIS best interests in mind, not their union's political bullshit. I welcome a longer school day and a longer school year. Hey Dweeb. Would you like to work 90 minutes more a day for $6. I know I don't. The teachers nor their union have stated that they didn't want to work the 90 minutes. They just want to be compensated fairly for it. It has nothing do with politics. You do sound like future exempt material for CPD.
The longer school year serves one purpose only, keeping 98% of the public school kids locked behind doors (bars) so there not selling dope or killing each other on the street. Education is the last thing on the mayors mind.
We the people......so whats the cost for the additional heating, A/C, lighting...for the additional two hours...what the fuck, really
Just one big fucking barrel of money mayor ? Really
Whats the average salary of a CPS educator ?
Signed, pissed off over taxed American !
So now the test. Does this side deal to break the union precipitate labor action by the union? Are we middled into holding the line for city hall? This could be the start of some very interesting times.
Im keeping my blue jeans at all costs
12:23 am You must be must be a stay home lazy ass parent who just needs a break from there parental duties. All bullshit aside how can you take away there 4% raise which was in there contract and then say well give you 2% but you work an extra 90mins and extra 2weeks. Who besides the big time politicaly connected CEO and cronies can afford this in said economy. And a news flash teachers don't get the summer off the money is taken out of there check through the year. Time are tough all over the city problem souldnt fall on the shoulders of working class city employees. These problems caused by years of financial misuse and just plain theft. 12:23 go fuck your self and that's with your kids best interest at heart.
Shame on those that caved to the bully dance tactics. And to any teacher reading this, I do believe there is a large # of great teachers. Much like the job of a police officer, we can not provide everyone with the answer they want to hear. Nor can we guarantee there aren't a few misfits amoung the troops. Maybe if the parents of the CPS students spent 90 minutes a day with their darlings we would all be in a better place. What a world it would be if the responsability of raising a child was given back to the parents. How about a little shame with being a teen mother and an absent father. Amen
I'm disappointed that I don't see any support for CTU from CPD or CFD,CFL or other major unions. Just like Rahm is dividing and conquering within individual unions,the unions are not showing solidarity with one another. You need to get beyond racial and gender differences to come together. Otherwise, we can kiss organized labor, and the benefits we all enjoy as a result of your sacrifices, good-bye.
along with firearm recoveries and arrests being down citywide - aparently the admin has been busy. SPARS are up 93% YTD citywide
To Range Instructor , if you really are? As a father I cringe at the thought of your stupid ass being the first responder to a school were our children may be attending and is taken over by terrorist, every gun shot you hear will be an innocent child being murdered and yet you say to wait ? what if it were your kids? you wouldn't want me to be a hero , and possibly save your kids? you sir are a true asshat and do not call yourself the police, with that type of bullshit attitude! If you ever want to know what is wrong with this job, just take a look in the mirror !
Talk about divide and conquer. Many of you get your panties in a bunch over comments like these. How do you know a cops even writting them? I wouldn't be supprised if the city hall was planting many of these comments. Remeber this mayor was the hatchet man for both Clinton and the current office holder. And many of you fall in the trap. Also, trust me many of the biggest sheepdog, warrior talkers would be the ones not going in either. So relax worry about the things that will effect all of us like pensions, and time off with our children. If you and your partner know you would go in and take care of business be confident in that. Remember don't be divided and conquered.
My kid goes to a CPS school and I would like his teachers to have HIS best interests in mind, not their union's political bullshit.
If you truly had your child's best interest in mind, you should do the right thing and enroll him in a private school. You will become less angry and the political B.S. will not affect your well being.
But some guy said, "I don't give a shit about lazy ass CPD" "If they don't like it, let them find a job somewhere else."
how come Walker and the Wisconsin legislators were lambasted publicly and had demonstrators from across the country due to their PERCEIVED union busting which has actually turned out pretty well for them, yet this dictator gets a pass on this obvious violation of contract and possibly state law?
I don't care it you happen to be an honor roll student we can't compete like that unless we adopt the Chinese culture of slave labor, pollution and political corruption and subsidies.
----------------------------
We already have most of that with none of the benefits.
Some young fella returned home from a deploymant with the USMC and the ENTIRE BLOCK of neighbors decorated their homes with American flags in the 3600-blk of 112th St. It was both moving and awe-inspiring to see everyone gather around to support one of our hereos and to pay homage to the soldiers who put it all on the line for us.
Semper Fidelis. GOD BLESS AMERICA!
Yet you have PO s in 003 circumventing the contract being in incident teams. You work when the commander wants you to start. Why? When are we going to wake up and tell Jersey shore to stick it.
9/03/2011 12:15:00 AM
Why hate on us.. Nobody says a word about all of the extra PO's in the front office, or the CAPS office. At least we do work.
"My kid goes to a CPS school and I would like his teachers to have HIS best interests"
9/03/2011 12:23:00 AM
Sir you are a cheap ass! YOU don't have your kids best interest. I wouldn't send my kids to any CPS/Charter school. I'd send my kids to private like Rahm.
You have great teachers in CPS, but CPS does not! have your child's interest in mind. CPS has money in mind, contractors and all politically connected allies to milk the cps system. More money for them less money for the frontline (Teachers).
Also, very sad to hear about the caving in at the grammar school for a cheap $800 or less before taxes. That didn't take long. Wonder how long this deal was in the works.
The joke is going to be on you pal. Let's just wait and see how your pay, benefits and working conditions will diminish. Then when you rant, rave and are pissed. Don't look for any sympathy from teachers. Multiple times you cops bash teachers, streets and sanitation workers, other city workers. As if you are something special. I can't wait until the mayor sticks it to you.
boy if the teachers are THIS stupid, what could they be teaching the kids??
The only thing wrong with this system is us.
Not enough of us are voting them out of office. Nor are we exercising our rights to eliminate 25 aldermen.
quit bitching about the court sign in room not opening until 8:56, last time I checked court doesn't start until 9
3:25 AM
Are you drunk? Ward boundaries are determined by EQUAL population. Your idea is impossible.
008 has about 250,000 people while 001 has only about 25,000.
Back to the drawing board, Einstein.
BTW, 25 wards is much too generous. The city should have no more than 17 wards. See Northside's chart elsewhere for the numbers.
On Thursday at 26th and Cal the court sign in room wasn't open until 8:56 am. There were about 100 officers waiting outside the room. Not everyone was able to time stanp their slips on time. It was another way for Rahm to save some money.
9/03/2011 08:00:00 AM
You get paid for three hours no matter what time you clock in. If you really want to milk the o.t. and you sign in at 0905hrs then I guess you will have to sit around playing spades past 1205hrs. See Rahm didn't save any money now did he?
I heard Brizard ranting about better curriculums and better classes, but not ONCE did I hear him mention better PARENTING and better study habits.
It's all the teachers' fault, not the lazy, unsupervised children who are the spawn of useless ghetto rats.
`````````````````````
Maybe that's because he knows CPS has no control over how parents raise their kids and spending more time ranting about it will not change anything. However, we can use the best strategies to give kids the best education we can, with or, more often without, their parents' support. Maybe if we can give kids a better education, they won't grow up to be like their parents..
To all of you who think the teachers who agreed to extend their day are assholes, just know that extending the day is something that's allowed in the current contract. All you need is 50% +1 of the teachers to agree to it. Other schools have also done this before, but you just haven't heard about it in the media because it was not a big deal until now.
I have worked with many teachers who complain about not having enough time to teach all of the things kids get tested on. We need more time! 5.75 hours doesn't cut it.
Even with adding 1.5 hrs to the day, teachers will still be working LESS than 8 hrs/day at school. Yes, more planning/prep time will be needed, but that will likely be built into the school day.
Most teachers at charter schools work 8 hrs/day, just like any other professional worker. Why the hell can't CPS teachers??
Ticket blitz! Everyone for everything! No breaks unless its a po or fam.
We the people......so whats the cost for the additional heating, A/C, lighting...for the additional two hours...what the fuck, really
Signed, pissed off over taxed American !
9/03/2011 11:37:00 AM
No different cost since the lights, heating or the A/C are on if the kids are there or not. Walk into a CPS building after school hours and you will see.
Is may 2012 too early for the next contract march?I am sure we will not have as many people as last time. Many P.O.s retired and left the state since then. Anything is possible when you have hope!

That is because Walker is a REPUBLICAN. He and his fellow congress people were set up by the George Soros run groups such as MoveOn.org. The union leaders sent their thug union people there as well. I would like to know of all those people who were protesting, how many were actually citizens of WI. Whatever happened to the doctors that were going around at these protests telling the people that they would write notes to excuse them from working?
And here in Illinois, quietly the DEMOCRATS from the governor on down are not honoring the union contracts, not a peep of protest from anyone...
Stop, These Meaningless Postings.
It's Time, To Take To The Streets !
Who's With Me ?
WRT: "Grammar schools would not add a calculus class because many kids still struggle with the basics in math, which is why more time is needed. Most CPS kids read well below their grade level, which is why more time is needed to read in class. The more time students get to practice, the better they will get. So, longer actually does mean better for CPS students.
"
--------------
Heh...I was being sarcastic about calculus guess that doesn't always come across that clear using this medium.
Nevertheless the kids will only learn if they are engaged and who knows what they will really be doing for the extra 90 mins.
We can assume that all the teachers will be responsible and adjust their lesson plans accordingly yet I see no guarantee or checks and balances here to ensure that it happens.
Furthermore, on a more social economic scale if this nation doesn't correct it's trade and labor policies it's not going to matter too much how high our kids math and science scores are. Therefore we may just be throwing money out the window for education that our elite leaders are either unwilling of unable to leverage and use.
The labor is cheaper in Asia and the corporations don't care about you, or me, or this country.
The corporations are embarrassed to have their name associated with America. That's why they refer to themselves as "Global companies" today.
USA Corporation will bow to China's demands for fear of losing their access to the Chinese market.
Just Google the number of current USA college grads that are sitting idle back home at mom and dads because this corporate wage arbitration game has made their college degree a virtually meaningless piece of paper.
What were the numbers on the last college graduating class of 2010...over 50% either unemployed or under-employed? With numbers like that you have to start asking why we are spending money educating kids that the elite leaders are unwilling or unable to use.
If you're going to start your own business it's a different matter. Although the city of Chicago in collusion with all the existing businesses have set up all sorts of hoops and licenses to make it nearly impossible in an effort to eliminate their competition.
This plan is how we end up with alderman in various wards in the city running unchallenged -- it's the hoops, the barriers to protect the status quo.
As it's allowed to continue I just don't think education is going to matter. More than ever it's who you know not what you know today.
Okay,Ive read all this vitriolic doom and gloom bullshit. Listen up ! they're posturing ! As big of assholes as they may be, they also know a copper scorned is a copper who won't do shit ! If you were in charge,would you jeopardize approx. 300-400 bucks a day in income (5 parkers, 1 mover, maybe an anov )to save roughly 4k a year ? NO F-ING WAY! c'mon kids,learn how to play poker !
Update on Divide and conquer!
Teachers at those schools were urged to sign these agreements to supposedly keep their jobs next school year or face a shutdown of their school for budgetary reasons. Sounds like coercion.
Watch closely CPD they long started making you look like fools too!
Make teachers and officers look like lazy incompetents.

9/03/2011 08:40:00 AM
The CTU has NEVER supported the police. They got great contracts last time around and we got shit on. In fact most of CTU members hate your fucking guts. Did you hear the lining up with us to get a better contract? No, you didn't fuckhead. I'm not hearing the teachers all fired up because despite, a 2percent raise this year I take home less than I did on the old contract. Im really gonna feel sorry for some person that hates my police guts, works from 9-3, no weekend school, gets two weeks off for the holidays, doesn't work all summer and makes more than me? I don't want them to see them loose anything, but I'm sure as shit not standing with them when they left us twisting in the wind.

Apparently chalkie didn't go to the Dells for the weekend.
The time will come when talking and complaining about what the politicians are doing to all of us isn't enough. The real question is, how hard are you willing to fight for what is yours?
Rahm knows what is best for all.
Bring in outsiders to operate the schools and the police the WAY he wants. Who do these outsiders turn to when a decision is to be made? Who else but the guy who made them. No prior alliances, connections none.
Make no mistake about it, this guy will manipulate his way to have total control over this city in short order. Media, they'll cower to him faster then the city council.
Our last dictator took years to consolidate his power, and is sitting on the sidelines in amazement of this very small man with very big plans.
You aint seen nothing yet.
Whatever power that was once held by our city unions will be a thing of the past.

The teachers want to be professionals? Then start acting like it ! Keep the schools open from 8am to 5pm and keep the teachers in the building the entire time. They can grade their phantom papers in the building. Four weeks vacation each year, thats it! Most people work long hours for the money and benefits teachers get. I am tired of their whinning. It can be a hard job, but the whinning is just too much. The system is set up to benefit the adults and not the kids.
9/03/2011 09:32:00 AM
How can they grade papers while baby sitting those rug rats? What about writing lesson plans and contacting parents and other grades? teachers complete their work at home you idiot. give a copper home work and they will scream like a stuffed pig. BTW no one whines and bitches more than the police. Just read this blog for examples.
We are talking about a total of no more that 60 teachers out of a system of 20,000 that voted to waive some of their contractual rights under duress and out of the 60 maybe 35 voted for the longer school day. The way I see it this is a manufactured sky is falling syndrome to provoke fear and a reaction from the Union. From what I hear, none the schools had any waivers actually initiated by the staff or community. In most cases the staff that did vote for the waiver were new, who had a vested interest in listening to what the principal wanted. The clear intent of the waiver process historically is to adapt each school to local educational needs with the input of the community, not a top down management mechanism. There are contractual and organizational safeguards in-place that protect against widespread mass hysteria to giveaway collective bargaining rights.
In my opinion, the strategy for the Union is to stay the course and be focused on what the Union wants to accomplish: Good Working Conditions. Rahm and Brizzard are erratic and not able to appropriately work through difficult issues without bullying, intimidation and deception; character flaws that only lead to failure.
What we are seeing is an escalation of union busting tactics rather that a concerted effort to sit down and develop a plan that improves the quality of education in Chicago. To organizationally react and run a 30,000 member union in response to media stunts is counter productive and silly.
When I was teaching carpentry, if I reacted to every personality flaw that my students had I would never have finished my daily lesson and they would never have learned anything. My job was to teach the skill of adulthood to teenagers, not worry about what my students liked or did not like. In the end all of my students, even the ones that ended up on the bad side of the tracks, appreciated the consistency and focused learning environment I established for them.
It is good to remember history. Brizzard was run out of Rochester while under federal investigation for sexual and racial discrimination. Rahm left one of the most influential jobs in the world to be a mayor of a city to straighten things out before the 2012 presidential election. For over 100 years the Chicago Teachers Union has been advocating for public education.
Our constitution makes it perfectly clear that:
We, teachers, and other educational personnel in the Chicago public schools, being members of the Chicago Teachers Union, do hereby declare this Union to have the following purposes:
1. to protect and improve the services of the public schools as a social agency for developing the capacities of the young and promoting adult education;
As our motto goes
Good Working Conditions
Are Good Learning Conditions
"quit bitching about the court sign in room not opening until 8:56, last time I checked court doesn't start until 9"
What court are you talking about? I haven't been to one court room in 15 years that started at the specified 9am call? ASA's don't trot their asses in till 930 and the judges don't get on the bench till 10-10:15 at the earliest. Then after a once thru the call with the private hand-job attorneys being called, it's a half hour recess.
You cannot compare the Teachers Union with the Police Union.
YOU are an idiot.
ALL UNIONS ARE BEING THREATENED.
ALL UNION WORKERS NEED TO STICK TOGETHER.
They don't care what union you are from. They want to dismantle any and all union contracts. WAKE UP!!!
Some people think the teachers do not deserve their wage but remember they watch out children when we won't, they take crap from parents every day, they work in a system that refuses to let them fail those who deserve it, they work in a system that "main streams" children with all sorts of issues and they find it almost impossible to get rid of a student who should be removed and finally they do a job we wont and couldn't.
Now if these are not enough reasons remember the mayor is trying to break the Teachers Union then it will try to screw us.
I wish the teacher well and hope they get a fair deal from the Mayor
A Strike by all union employees against the City will bring them to their knees! Even for just one day.

"They didn't stand with us before and they won't in the future."
Uhm,dude, the Teacher's Union were there marching with us outside city hall. They had their banner too. I have pictures to prove.
Where were you?
WAY of topic but had to vent- Christ Hospital ER is like a third world care. Anyone else have problems there? I wish police and fire and any other emergency services area could have their own hospital.
Rahm refuses to work with any union in this city. He uses the media to spout his nonsense -- like "I have ideas for the police department (after going on one ride-a-long, by the way), but I'm not going to tell you what it is." He's trying to baffle us with bullshit. The unions need to call him out on his crap, instead of letting the media fawn all over him over every little thing he says.

And, thank God Oprah went off the air, because one judge in juvie court wouldn't hit the bench til the end of the Oprah show. Pitiful.
I marched on City Hall in April 2009, and reps from
the Teacher's Union were there standing with us.
Also saw Streets & San people there too.
Guess who else I saw marching? Henny-Penny,
when she was assigned as a Capt. in 007.
This is not BS, I saw her with my own eyes.
Saw a number of Lts. there too, and more
than a few Sgts., some even holding signs.
It was a great day, huge crowd, lots of comraderie.
Probably never happen again now under the current
administration.

The joke is going to be on you pal. Let's just wait and see how your pay, benefits and working conditions will diminish. Then when you rant, rave and are pissed. Don't look for any sympathy from teachers. Multiple times you cops bash teachers, streets and sanitation workers, other city workers. As if you are something special. I can't wait until the mayor sticks it to you.

I am not one of those who say f--k the teachers, I empathize with their situation. With that said, I do recall that they received a nice raise in their last contract as opposed to our less generous raise. I don't recall any teachers coming on this blog and empathizing with us. I don't wish them any ill will, I am just saying that we as police were already left without their support when we got our small raise over 5 years, we don't really expect their support when we get reamed a new one with our next contract.

He wants nothing more than to open his evil mouth and take everything we have worked for, the union say what you want without it we would be fucked even worse! Shields has his work cut out for him/us lets just hope he can stand up to the tyrant mayor and his band of 50 spineless cowards!

Actually, I’m kind of glad.
I like that they are U OF CPD stories, and not CPD stories.
I’m happy that jagoff is gone!

Yea the guy who keeps posting the updates which are as long as "War and Peace"
Does anyone give a shit about the U of C police and the Doty stories?
9/04/2011 09:17:00 PM
Absolutely. The U of C Police Department has always been a very helpful partner agency for us and it is a shame that Doty is out to ruin it. Did you ever work in the same place as Doty? If you had, you would want to know the sob's whereabouts and antics in order to avoid him at every turn. Doty is no good and keeping a safe and comfortable distance can only be accomplished with reliable information. The heads-up on this asshole is much appreciated.
I taught high school for CPS for a few years, then moved on to the college and university system. I also retired from CPD. If anyone really believes that teachers spend hours at home every night grading papers and writing lesson plans, then either you are standing up for a family member who is a teacher and tells you this, or you have been drinking the kool-aid of the teacher's union. This is simply not true. Lesson plans, curriculum, etc. are established by the school administration and department heads. The book publishers always send out to teachers outlines for each chapter, sample examinations and quiz questions and sample lesson plans. And, very little time is spent grading papers. Many exams are machine scored or you can always do the " exchange papers with your neighbor" routine. Yes, the writer who called for teachers to be in the school building 9 hours a day is bringing up a good point. The students leave at 3pm and they can do there phantom paper work in peace in their classrooms until 5 pm., just like the rest of professionals who work long hours for less pay. Interestingly, educators were listed in the top ten jobs that pay more and require less work by the US Department of Labor and private studies. Frankly, I am sick of their constant whinning and demands and the total lack of success with our children. Many teachers take the job because of the huge amount of time off and blame others for their lack of success. My tax bill keeps growing and most of the money goes for education. The system is very top heavy and will come crashing down unless it is fundamentally reformed.
How can they grade papers while baby sitting those rug rats? What about writing lesson plans and contacting parents and other grades? teachers complete their work at home you idiot. give a copper home work and they will scream like a stuffed pig. BTW no one whines and bitches more than the police. Just read this blog for examples.
9/03/2011 10:35:00 PM
Yes, some teachers do complete their work at home, on occasion when they have some. But, if you only worked 5.5 hours a day, then you have time to do so at your home and you are still getting a full days pay. So, I would not really call this "homework". TRhe writer who called for the teachers to stay in the school building and do their " homework" is correct. Let them do it on the premises and we will see how much they really have to do, " at home" every night. I say bullshit to most of their complaints.

I'm a CPS teacher, and speaking for all of the teachers I know, OF COURSE we support a longer school day, for a long and varied list of logical reasons. Why is it so hard for non-teachers to understand that we simply want to be paid for having to spend additional time at work? You need a minimum of a Bachelor's degree to be a teacher, plus a Master's if you want to climb the Lane credit pay scale. I will be paying off my student loans for many years to come. Furthermore, we are required to take a minimum of continuing ed classes each year in addition to our college degrees. I dare anyone to name another profession with the same educational requirements that pays a salary even similar to what teachers receive. And then people expect us to work for free, for the "sake of the children"? We're not fucking nuns and priests. We have our own biological children, most of whom we have to pay to educate privately, and teaching is a job, like any other.

You must have been out of the system for a long time. I agree that many teachers exaggerate the amount of time spent on lessons, etc., but the days of scripted lessons and "teacher guides" are gone in many schools. Teaching is now all about differentiation, so using "one size fits all" materials no longer works. At the elementary level, many schools have tossed the textbooks and teachers develop their own lessons.
7:31pm If teachers are so educated why do you send your kids to private schools? No faith in your fellow workers to educated your own children but it is OK for everyone else?

It's not the teachers, stupid, it's the students. And here's a tip for your next comment: watch your verb tense.
"We have our own biological children, most of whom we have to pay to educate privately, and teaching is a job, like any other."
If you had confidence in your own work as a teacher and CPS you would send them to a public school. You and many other teachers send their kids to private schools. If you don't believe in the education given there why should we?
How many elected officials send their kids to private school?
Gee, a typo with a verb tense. Grow up.
