Off Duty Shooting

  • An off-duty Chicago police officer managed to avoid being hit by gunfire in the Chatham neighborhood early this morning but a friend with him was hit, police said.

The two were outside a residence in the 7500 block of South Wabash Avenue about 2:20 a.m. when a gunman opened fire on the pair, said Police Officer Amina Greer, citing preliminary information.

The officer returned fire but missed, Greer said.

It was not clear if the site of the shooting was the officer's home.

No one is saying if the assailant knew he was shooting at an officer or if it was just a random ambush in that neck of the woods.

OFF TOPIC:

Since the day SCC did the thread on this not guilty verdict and there were only 70 comments, and then there were only 30 comments about Vanecko screwing the pension, AGAIN. However, we did have over 80 comments on the dead CPD horse. I would suggest that our priorities are not in order with all due respect to Mikey C, the horse, but come on.

Your Safety and Your Pension, and after that, nothing else really matters on this job. Hopefully some of you will see the light.

Anyhow, people bashed Chuck Goudie for stealing this story from the blog but at least HE did something. Now, almost a week later, Channel 7 does a news story of it. Thank you Chuck, somebody is doing something.

Of course there is still nothing from any of the people at 189, from the FOP, from any of our leadership and especially nothing from G-Mac, and of course, and nothing, not a word from Tiny Dancer. When is Father Faker having another invitational sermon?

To all you fucking idiots who say things like "you have a job move out of the ghetto" or "why do they live there." Whether it is the ghetto or a nice neighorhood every has to live somewhere and your home is your home. I know white people like to run when neighorhoods change, maybe if we did not run this city would be whole lot better place.

They should, 012 and 014 can meet at Chicago Ave, split all personnel between those 2 districts.

002 can absorb 021 entirely, all personnel in 021 go to 002.

If you think your life, and the lives and safety of your family matters, why would you live in a scumbag neighborhood. These brain dead murdering animals just shoot at people because they look like someone they don't like.

off-duty Chicago police officer managed to avoid being hit by gunfire in the Chatham neighborhood early this morning but a friend with him was hit,.
The two were outside a residence in the 7500 block of South Wabash Avenue about 2:20 a.m. when a gunman opened fire on the pair.
The officer returned fire but missed.
It was not clear if the site of the shooting was the officer's home.
The officer's friend, described as an adult male, was shot in the shoulder and taken to an area hospital in "stable" condition.
UPDATE: An off-duty Chicago Police officer returned fire at a suspect who shot and wounded the officer’s friend outside a South Side tavern early Thursday in the Park Manor neighborhood.

The officer chased down two suspects and found one of them reportedly hiding in a garbage can.
Two men are in custody after the incident, which happened about 2:30 a.m. in the 7500 block of South Wabash Avenue.
The incident unfolded as the men were standing outside Willa’s Fifty Yard Line at 69 E. 75th St., Gresham District Police Lt. Paula Schmeer said.
An off-duty officer and a friend were outside when a man approached and fired shots, striking the officer’s friend, Greer said. The officer returned fire, but did not hit anyone.
“It was all about a song the DJ was supposed to play,’’ according to the lieutenant.
Someone asked the DJ multiple times when he was going to play a certain song and that person was punched in the nose in the bar prior to the shooting, according to Schmeer.
Outside, the son of the person punched allegedly tried to shoot the DJ, but instead accidentally hit the officer’s friend, who was standing next to the DJ, according to the lieutenant. The officer was not the DJ.
The suspects ran south on Wabash but the officer gave chase and apprehended them a short time later, according to the lieutenant

I hate to inform what is apparently a large number of close minded white officers on this blog, but the 7400 and 7500 blocks of South Wabash are not 'ghetto areas.' That area is one of well tended homes and lawns, mostly occupied by older, solid middle class black Chicagoans. The area is one of the most quiet in the 003rd/006th Districts. The 'problem' in the area is the 50 Yard Line lounge, which occasionally attracts some of the young sleaze. Not much we can do about that, but the area itself is relatively crime free, other than the occasional burglary, like most other areas.
It is apparent from many posts here that many
of the posters are not familiar with many black
middle class enclaves in the Chicago area.
Chatham and Gresham are two of them. Of course,
demographics have changed a bit since the closing
of several Chicago area housing projects, and like
many other Chicagoans, we're all dealing with that
as best we can.

I am a white Sgt. and years back while asigned to TRU, I was amazed at all of the nice houses in the area of 74-79th and wabash. Folks take care of their property when they are paying for it ,working a real job and not Section 8, or dope boys. the lawns were groomed and no garbage on the streets.

I worked in 003 for 8 years and there are are nicer areas in three just like any other district.
75th/Wabash block itself is a working class area with nice homes and well kept lawns. Minimal calls for service there. However, the 50 yard line club/lounge attracts a lot of the criminal element for nearby "ghetto" areas. There are a lot of ODPO's that go to the 50 Yardline, and I don't understand that for the life of me. There have been numerous shootings there, fights, and just so much nonsense. Same with Rodney's, its closed now but I remember several shootings there as well and was surprised to find out a lot of ODPO's go there every weekend. I'm not going judge anyone, it's not my business what you do off duty, but there are certain places you should avoid. 50Yardline is one them. As well as Great America and some clubs in downtown are infested with shitbirds. I went to Joe's Bar on in 018 last month to celebrate a birthday, and while walking back to our car, there was some shitbirds yelling out SD to a car load of assholes on the street. A lot of coppers live in 008, and there are many "ghetto" areas in 008 as well. I know two years ago a ODPO got into a fight with some 26ers or Latin Kings in 008, and it was west of Midway airport, while walking his dog. So it dosen't matter where you are 003,018,Gurnee,IL and the 016th district will get it's share. Black, white, or hispanic it doesn't matter.
