A similar incident occurred last Friday at 7:30 PM at the same location. The police arrived after the offenders fled.

Not nearly the whole story. Not even close. Officer had an on-going issue involving the school. He and his partner were both replaced. Him and the partner worked in a high school, but couldn't communicate with each other effectively because they couldn't stand each other. This was the straw that broke the camels back.
P.S. They both received the exact same assignment, after being re-assigned from the school, both still getting weekends off, so there was no favoritism. However, that could change if one wishes to be a crybaby, making phone calls to get the beloved school back.

Um, I saw the victim on the news. He is a PHd candidate, was coming home from a night class. He said that he thought it would be safer to ride his bike home from class along the lakefront rather than on the streets.
Don't be so critical. He is a victim of this city--he perceives the streets as unsafe, so his only alternative was to take the lakefront--
Thanks to Daley and now Rahm, the streets have become, and will remain, unsafe.

What I don't understand is why hasn't something been done about CRITICAL MASS? Hundreds of these idiots ride through the most congested intersections during rush hour always on a Friday but without a permit. They get police escort (I think a unit is assigned to this now) the whole way through and not one citation is issued for all the major "rules of the road" violations they are committing.

I carry my Sig P 250 .40 cal with me all the time. No exceptions. And no, Im not the police. The 'gun law' In Illinois provides a loophole for concealed carry. Read 720 5/24. I wont post the loop hole as there are some that feel only the police should be allowed to carry. THAT is not only archaic in thought but fundamentally unconstitutional as well.
I am NOT advocating vigilante style justice on these animals only an immediate means of self defense.
Example: I was at Costco at Diversey and Clyborne. In the nice safe and quiet 19th District. While returning to my truck with my newly purchased tools,I was approached by 3 black males one of which thrust his hand into his pocket as if going for a gun. the other 2 tried to circle around me. At this point,the one with his hand in his pocket advanced. I drew. They ran.
I hold A valid FOID card and was perfectly within my rights to do what I did. And yes,officer I WILL do it again and again and as many times as needed to protect myself.

Did you see it was a ten year old with what was essentially a 2x4 who laid open the head of the victim. 10 years old. If anyone comes at us with a 2x4 looking to remove our head from our shoulders, he's going to get shot, pronounced and planted. End of story.

It will not be hard to find cops to take credit for putting him away and getting a gun off the street, as if that does any good.
never ran across a criminal gun yet. guns don't do crimes. get the criminals off the street. that will actually do some good.

O.K. sharkster, but they couldn't communicate because she's an IDIOT who's NEVER worked 1 day while being on this job. She's coddled and ALWAYS taken care of by the gutless w/c. I have no idea why the w/c bends over backwards for her cuz her daddy who was her clout retired many, many years ago. She needs to be thrown on a beat car but I'm sure the w/c would dump someone off their car to put her in the 10 sector. She hasn't worked a weekend in at least 15 yrs, and when schools are out over the summer and the beat cars are manned, he puts her on a bicycle. It's a joke!

I agree the W/C makes some strange decisions, but both officers have used their clout to get easy jobs, neither has worked weekends in over 15 years, and both have been coddled. In my mind, both of them blew it by not settling their differences and realizing that no matter how much they disliked each other, they keep it quiet. Once something like that gets to a boss, they run the risk of being on the receiving end of a hostile workplace complaint if they dont address it. That type of beef doesnt disappear easily, unless you're DTEB, the bartender, or someone of that clout.
I don't know..there was no good answer there. Maybe timing could have been a little better, thats for sure, but its been brewing for a while.

What? Can you read fucking minds. It's not a hate crime because the robbery is a higher charge.
What I don't understand is why hasn't something been done about CRITICAL MASS? Hundreds of these idiots ride through the most congested intersections during rush hour always on a Friday but without a permit. They get police escort (I think a unit is assigned to this now) the whole way through and not one citation is issued for all the major "rules of the road" violations they are committing.
