Our "Leaders" at Work

You know what will stop bust-outs, gang bangers, scrappers, and whore from breaking into buildings? Raise the fines!
  • People breaking into abandoned buildings in Chicago would face stiffer fines under a proposal headed to the City Council.

Aldermen and Fire Department officials have sought ways to give more teeth to city ordinances governing abandoned buildings, which often become havens for crime and dangerous fires.

Ald. James Balcer's plan seeks to deter homeless people, drug addicts, prostitutes, gang members and others from breaking into the buildings by increasing to $200 the fines they could face. The Zoning Committee approved the plan today, and it will head to the full council next Thursday.
Brilliant! They'll all be paralyzed into inactivity based on a $200 fine!!! Nevermind that the homeless have no money, the dope addicts spend anything they get, the whores are turning tricks there to get money, the gang members don't really care since they'll beat the case in court and the scrappers will just break into the next house if they get fined at all.

Does anyone have any idea how many abandoned buildings there are in Chicago right about now? There are swaths of the south and west sides where unoccupied dwellings outnumber the occupied by factors of ten. Certain police districts have 1,600, 1,800 even 2,000 vacant buildings in various states of being boarded up. The numbers are certainly much higher than the number of coppers that would be required to check every single building with any regularity. We'd bet probably over 20,000 buildings.

You know what solves the problem? Bulldozers and dump trucks. It also reduces the stock of unoccupied buildings, leading to a more stable housing market. Economics 101, supply and demand. It also reduces crime. And provides jobs to union operating engineers, truckers, waste haulers, etc. Sounds like an all-around winner to us.

There are 483 Abandoned vacant properties in just the 15th Ward alone. Calls to the alderscum Toni Foulkes go unanswered.

The banks hold many of these foreclosed properties and in some cases have taken the property by fraudulent means. They are the ones that should be fined -- fined as creating an unsightly nuisance.

You have to go after the people that have money to run a revenue generation machine for the city -- ya know?

You know.... it's like going after the guys that roll through a red light camera at 3 mph at 4am on their way to work to try and make a living and contribute to society.

Those are the guys you hit.

They're easy pickings. They're not going to challenge you in court -- they can't get the time off work and if they did they would lose more money in the process. So you hit them.

Hit them for the red light cam violations. Hit them with rear-seat seat-belt violations and things like that. That's how you raise city revenue.

Tow their cars from in front of their homes on some b.s. abandoned vehicle claims while they're asleep. There's a real jackpot for revenue generation.

After all... the citizens of this sanctuary city really want it's resources being spent raising this kind of revenue.

They don't want you chasing the gang bangers and the drug runners. Those people are tying up the courts they have no money to pay fines and are tying up the jails.

Funny. I was thinking the same thoughts when I heard this. The people who break into abandoned buildings are typically homeless and penniless, or drug addicts needing a place to fester. The City Council could enact a $1,000,000.00 fine and the impact would be the same. Nothing would change. So go ahead, waste more of the taxpayers money on such foolhardy endeavors. This may even beat out the idiocy of the foie gras ordinance of 2006.

Sounds like a winning idea to probably most people...except those (mostly banks) who own the decrepit buildings. The city would never approve any plan that would mean major businesses would lose millions...unless they can figure out a way for their connected friends and family to benefit from it.

This story sounds so...well....DETROIT. Vast areas of Detroit are just a wasteland. The city just sends out the bulldozers to level vast areas that were once homes and neighborhoods. Chicago is well on its way to becoming Detroit. How sad.

What a totally fucking hair-brained idea...and the whole city council, brainiacs that they are, fully endorse it.

Yes. Fine them. That'll work. Who the fuck is going to write them, and who the fuck is going to collect?

Yes, the addicts and whores and scrappers will take care of their responsibilities.

Smart.

Makes me want to run for office.

MISSPELLING, SCC. "Whore"? (sic)

The correct spelling is "HO". The plural is "HOS". A hoe is a gardening tool.

In a sentence: Tyrone told the HO to close da DO' and give him some MO'. "R" is silent on da West Side.

Ever check out some of those abandoned properties? Many still have electricity. Who's paying the bill? Now don't pay your bill and see how fast they cut you off. Hmm, maybe if one is next or across the alley from me I should tap into their free power....

Abandoned properties are a big issue. The banks should have re-negotiated with some owners to keep the maximum number of people in properties.
This has been a lose-lose situation all across the country.

$200 fine? Isn't breaking and entering already a crime? Isn't trespassing a crime? Aren't there laws that require properties to be maintained to avoid creating an "attractive nuisance"?
We don't need more laws, we need to put some teeth into enforcing the ones we've got.

Maybe they will assign more "abandoned building officers" to enforce these fines! The area 3 "abandoned building officer" never leaves the office unless its to smoke outside, take a phone call, or bs with the front office people!!! Put her ass back on the street answering calls like the rest of us!!!

I'm not a cop so I have a few questions to ask.

In order to arrest someone for trespassing ddon't you need a signed complaint by the homeowner? And wouldn't I then have to appear in court to testify of the trespassing?

And this is going to raise revenue for the city or just make it safer?

I've always thought that de-annexing some of these neighborhoods would be a good idea. Let some of the fringe, sparsely populated neighborhoods become their own town/village. They're a drain on city resources and like an well run business you have to get rid of the parts of the business that don't work.

Chicago used to end at Fullerton. North of Fullerton was the city of Lakeview until the 1880s.

You can fine people in vacant buildings? What is the charge?

I guess through common sense I never thought such a thing existed. The fines will never get paid, warrants will be out for their arrests and taxpayers money will just be wasted feeding them balony sandwiches for the night and officers taken off the street for bullshit failure to appear warrants.

"You know what solves the problem? Bulldozers and dump trucks. It also reduces the stock of unoccupied buildings, leading to a more stable housing market."

...as the U.S. population is increased by another 150 million -- primarily through explosive breeding and Third World chain immigration -- by the year 2050.

"...the Nation's population is projected to increase to 392 million by 2050 -- more than a 50 percent increase from the 1990 population size.

"The non-Hispanic White population would contribute nothing to population growth after 2030 because it would be declining in size...The Black population would double its present size to 62 million by 2050."

http://www.census.gov/population/www/pop-profile/natproj.html

Sounds "stable" to me.

"The city just sends out the bulldozers to level vast areas that were once homes and neighborhoods. Chicago is well on its way to becoming Detroit. How sad."

Yup -- "urban prairie," with no jobs and unaffordable rent on the few remaining apartments; ideal conditions for the twenty-in-3 1/2-rooms, forty living in a small two-story house, that we're already seeing here.

The "Hell's Kitchen" of the 21st Century, without the prospects for improvement.

LISTEN UP - increasing FINES won't do it. Theses are the same people who have no driver's license, no insurance, but drive anyway. These are the same people you arrest, but the ASA's dismiss or nolle it. These are the same people who racked up a bunch of fines, but plea to the judge "they ain't got no money" and the judge gives 'em a pass or sentences them to community service that they don't serve anyway.

THE ONLY WAY TO GET TO THEM IS TO TAKE AWAY THE LINK, SECTION 8, SSI, WIC, UTILITY PAYOUTS, FREE CELL PHONES, ETC. and all the other government freebees. Take away the LINK and section 8 vouchers to all the baby mommas who have no fuckin clue where their little 10 y/o is who is commiting a felony. MAKE THEM BE RESPONSIBLE for THEMSELVES AND THE FELONS THEY ARE BREEDING. They are causing a drain on society and everyone, including their own race, are tired of it. rant off.

Hey to all you geniuses’ out there how about this. Fine the people who have the money, the banks. For every unsecured property that is facilitating crime, a $1000.00 fine for the initial occurrence and a $100.00 additional fine per day until the vacant property is secured. Haven't we given enough money to the banks in the form of bailouts and now you want to demolish their property for them using city workers. This is just another form of a bailout. Haven't we given them enough?

The Social Security Administration puts a brick (stop payment) on a Deadbeats SSI monthly check when the Internal Revenue Service reports income from some other source to the SSA.
How about collecting fines and court costs from a garnish of Welfare income.
Why are the criminals not punished judicially or financially???
The government gives them free money why not take it away?
As for Leaders at Work....bull. Part time aldergoofs will say anything to get attention. Goofy curfews, banned goose livers, and plastic bottle taxes. What's next besides my tax bill going up for a failing schools system, a park system overrun by thugs and pissbums, a sanitation system that cleans my pot holed street 3 times a year.
What's to say on any given day City Hall Aldermanic offices are mostly abandoned after a 2 hour work day.

Only post that are directed at the libtards who try to pass themselves off leaders should be published on this blog. How about when the contract comes up for body removal (which is what about $900 a stiff) we make it special employment or another police unit staffed by wagon guys. One truck north and one south could handle the load.

Just to clarify, 90% of abandoned buildings are owned by banks so fines on building owners are generating huge revenue for the city.
Maybe we need to audit the city books and see how much the Police actually generate. I bet it's more than we think!
