Money for Nature
The city would acquire 21 acres of woods and wetlands that belong to the sprawling Rosehill Cemetery on the Northwest Side and turn the tract of land into a nature preserve under a plan introduced by Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
The mayor is seeking city approval to spend $7.8 million — which would come from tax increment financing and tax-exempt bonds — to acquire the land in the northwest corner of the cemetery, roughly Peterson and Western. The city would then turn the tract of land over to the Chicago Park District for a $1.
“The land will be developed into a nature preserve with walking trails, a bird sanctuary and fishing opportunities in the existing ... pond,” Michele Lemons, a park district spokeswoman, said in an e-mail to the Sun-Times.

I realize how this looks on the surface to you, SCC, but this is actually putting to rest a long-standing feud with the owners of Rosehill. IIRC, there was a plan by the owners to sell off the wooded property to housing developers. Yes, homes right next to a cemetary. O'Connor, for once in his life, did the right thing and put a kibosh on the development. I think this nature park thing is to ensure that homes are never built next to Rosehill, which is a historic cemetary like Graceland.
However, I can't WAIT for the numbnuts who want the city to buy Edgewater and turn it into a park to start screaming. Nevermind that there's asbestos and bankruptcy problems with the building. Who knows, maybe this is a sop to their overinflated sense of worth.
So let's see.
The Fed gives us an FICA payroll tax break of 2% Robbing from our future retirement dollars so that we can spend the money now to stimulate the economy
However...The State of Illinois immediately increases our State income tax rates by 2% so that Illinoisan's never see a dime of that tax break..
(( They had to act fast so that the money would never show up in a single paycheck because people don't miss what they never had. ))
Then with the new windfall tax increase in hand, the governor goes on a corporate tax break award spree handing out our FICA retirement account dollars, that we ourselves will have to replace later because you know damn well we can't tax the corporations, to various corporations claiming that it's going to create/save jobs.
The governor is the decider who gets the money!
Motorola Mobility was one of the last ones to get a deal and no sooner then the tax break deal was signed Motorola Mobility was sold.
What happen to the tax break? What happen to my retirement money that was stolen?
I don't see any jobs and it sure doesn't feel like we're all in this together. It feels like a ponzi scam.
In fact it feels like the Illinois and Chicago monarchy is redistribution wealth as they please. To parking meter contractors and clouted friends. Tow Truck operating clouted friends to run the pounds..and OMG the list just keeps going on and on I can't list it all here.
Did Sears get their tax break yet. I know the CME group has been running the extortion game and they're up next. Talk about welfare. Look at all this corporate welfare!
"Give us tax breaks or we will behead these careers and you will lose the tax revenue!!"
heh the only thing that's missing is a video tape being sent to Al Jazeera no?
What ever happen to "we don't negotiate with terrorist"?
Anyways, so now we're going to build park birdbaths and walkways for how many millions while we close prisons and metal health centers and move the homeless people that once resided in them to their new homes in the police stations.
Brilliant!!
We don't want these piss bums mucking up the new planters and flower pots in the parks by lying around ya know. Shove them in the police lobby and get 'em off the streets.
But we still have to commute 1 1/2 hours to a shooting rage to qualify for the M-4.
I though we are in the red. It's all lies folks. Remember this when we demand a raise.
no worries, what could possibly go wrong at a bird sanctuary?
How about a fucking Range we can shoot at!
Question:
why do otherwise seemingly intelligent people keep right on voting Democrat - when it has proven 100% to result in nothing but scandal, failure and disaster?
I hope the arbitrator that we will eventually get to settle our upcoming contract remembers that the city crying 'broke' is a bunch of bullshit.
Why not put that money toward shoring up the pensions of first-responders?
I didn't think I could hate a mayor more than I hated Shorty--but I was wrong.
Lets set it aside for the annual Freaknik. Big fence, let them do what they do and come burn the bodies left the next day.
And how many high paid aldermen will it take to rubber stamp this?
This is a recipe for disaster. Building a park on a burial ground? Have we learned nothing from the 025th District?
I can see it now. This will result in zombie squirrels and chipmunks, not to mention the flying vermin in every park. Does no one listen? Think of the children,
http://www.osha.gov/as/opa/worker/complain.html
The city needs these areas so young teens can gather and do some wilding.
" You only moved the head stones! You didn't move the bodies!"
Did any of the money get returned that Blago gave to the church in Bronzeville that burned. Remember they received the cash in error and thought it was a gift.
WAKE UP and look around at other states. It is any wonder that Illinois is down at the bottom on almost every list except at the top of the one that talks about deficits in the BILLIONS.
Quinn needs to go to "Governor School" - if there was such a thing. He needs some type of education. He's as much of a Governor as I am an Astonaut.
Many of you complaining still voted Democrat or maybe didn't bother at all to go to the polls.
Stop your whining and suck it up. You let this guy in - deal with it.
Maybe next time (wow - those words sound like I am some Loser Cubs Fan), you will get off your butts and go vote these morons out.
Gun range. Mold-free buildings. Cops properly armed (Shotguns and rifles in EVERY squad car, no exceptions).
Let's get our priorities in order!!

I didn't copy your entire post because it is much too confusing, but hyou are sure all over the pladel. If you are a cop, and you sound like you are, ou don't pay into FICA, and the Governor has nothing to do with it.

It's the result of that mold that has surfaced in City/department facilities. It was originally created to ensure victories for the daley machine. They now use it to ensure that future generations of police officers will not question corruption & not embarass the crime machine that is raping the city. The Gold Stars are injected with the mold when they receive Merit promotions. This is why they are such blithering idiots.
This so called Nature Preserve will be a great place to bury the skeletons. The closets & basement of city hall are filled to capacity.
sarcasm rant off.
You voted them in, Rahm & Quinn and O'zero, so quit yo' bitching and eat yo' peas.
smoke and mirrors- some rela estate developer still getting action (maybe mrs oconnor will be the RE agent)
according to letter from Ald O'Connor- he introduced two ordinances at city council mtg on 08 Sep 2011 relating to Rosehill
(1) in Nov to acquire and develop public nature preserve- to be opened in 2013
(2) rezone cemetary land in southwest portion cemetery to RM=5 for devlopment as senior houding or other institutional uses
Just what 020 needs- another nursing home, SRO or building full of studio apartment to house senior citizens, the mentally ill, convicts on probation and predators all under the same roof
(OT) Again the news media makes something when there is nothing, the animals complain? WTF they should be happy the police were there!

You guys just keep forgetting the fact that even though the City is flat broke, we've still got OOODLES of MAGIC DOLLARS! We can buy anything the alderman wants! And it doesn't cost the taxpayers a penny, because they're MAGIC DOLLARS!
Mayor Daley got this special money years ago from a big tall guy who was selling beans.
This is a luxury we cannot afford in this Obama economy.
Oh yeah, I can't wait to eat a fish with that pickeld corpse flavoring.
want to go fishing go to skokie lagoon or lakefront--- want to get in tune with nature go to 5801 n. pulaski--- it's loaded with deer, red fox, and all kinds of flying things--- we all know the 7.8 million will end up turning into 70.8 million using the democratic accounting method--- we can't afford rahmbo's little play park....
And what about the state of the art outdoor range that was supposed to have been in the works??
Chicago is not broke its all lies. The united states crying poor is all lies. Really were planning on cutting city jobs and we can spend millions on a fishing pond and bird santuary. How bout making a homeless santuary so there not in our stations and have someone normal to sleep.
Don't forget the BS "Bloomingdale Trail". Millions of dollars so the yuppies can have their nannies walk their kids amongst indigenous weeds.
Wtf. No money for police but theres money for a park.
TIF funds??
Sauganash is an economically deprived neighborhood??
What happened to spending TIF money in areas that need it, which include Roseland, Gresham, Austin or Englewood? Besides Saughanash has more park land than the other four neighborhoods combined.
It is time for a citizen or a south side alderman to take the City to court over how they spend TIF funds!
“The land will be developed into a nature preserve with walking trails, a bird sanctuary and fishing opportunities in the existing...pond,” [said] Michele Lemons, a park district spokeswoman"
There is a Depression on. No one is going to build anything here for profit.
You can't turn every available space into a "park," every empty factory into a "community center" or "performing arts venue."
We have about reached the limit on this kind of thing -- and on the number of "spokeswomen," too.
How much does this "Michele Lemons" cost us per year, and what does she produce that adds to the wealth of the nation?
Don't answer that.
"How about a f___g Range we can shoot at!"

Myself and my family were consistently treated like s__t at Edgewater. Good riddance.
Oh...where does Daley's embarassing leftover Michael Reese Park stand on the construction list?
What idiot thinks Sauganash has alot of park land? The only park is one block long by about 80 yards (240 feet) wide. The two baseball fields cannot be used by anyone over age 7 they are so small. If you think that the big park east of Sauganash belongs to the neighborhood, guess again. Its called Peterson Park and North Park Nature Center.
bird. sanctuary? Aren't we filled to the gills with sanctuants already ? That chunk of land, doesnt it sit in a ghettovian enclave? Another 'park' for bums and thugs to roam lawless. Rahm, pay the City's bills with that TIF money and stop spending on crap.
Let's get something clear. The City of Chicago is shrinking. FAST.
LA has almost a million more residents and a smaller police force than Chicago. New York has 30k for almost 9 million people.
In the 2020 census, Chicago will be the fourth largest city behind Houston. In 2030, Chicago will be lucky to be in the top 8. Cities in Texas, Florida, and southern CA will all surpass Chicago.
Chicago has lots of problems, but the police department being too small is not one of them. Having way too many criminals, well, that's a problem. It's too bad that there are too few taxpayers to solve that problem with more police officers. It's much more likely they'll just solve that problem by moving away.

Your experience is probably one of the reasons why Edgewater went broke. The people who are agitating for a park are the ones who have moved into those homes that were built on parking lots just to the north of the building. They want Edgewater turned into a park for their special snowflakes because, you know, their kids are so much more special than the generations of children that lived to the south of the hopsital without a park.
I have a bit of an issue with the fact that a bunch of yuppies who overpaid for shit new construction feel they are entitled to spend city money on a boondoggle.
And 09:00:00 AM - that sucks. I hadn't seen that letter. May as well call Peterson and Ravenswood the human warehouse corridor.
Hey FOP , will our new President notify IRS and ensure former mayor daley and his wife are paying federal and state tax on services provided by tax payers .Two Cars , 3 Sworn Officers receiving Sergeants pay for driving Mrs Daley to hospital and doctors office and protecting Mr.Daley.
Something Jane Byrne battled with everyone and never needed any body guards provided by the tax payers .
Richie can't drive or provide his own protection , City of Chicago has $18 an hour guards protecting the OEMC - 911 center . That's a 1/3 of what daley body guards make .
Wake up Chicago , vote the bums out .
21 acres for the use of homeless bums, Gangbangers, and perverts. No one decent will walk around that park. I thought the city was brooke. We buy it for almost $8 million and then give it back to the Park District for one dollar? Let the Park District buy it for themselves. They are a seperate taxing body and can get the funds. TIF is just a giant piggy bank for Chicago mayors to hand out favors and give money to connected low lifes. Emmanuel also gets to put his moniker on the freeloader sign donating the land. I wonder who is going to make all the money off of this deal. I know they don't look in the yellow pages for lawyers, contractors, and such. Rahm has over $867 million sitting in that TIF account. Time taxpayers took that money and used it for US and not arrogant selfish politicians.
where did the money that daley got for the skyway go. the pols are stealing anything they can get their hands on. but dont fret mr, taxpayer, its all on the square. and the print media wont say a word. now if it is a punk gets bitch slapped, how can the cpo do a thing like that.
Turn this parcel of land into an outdoor shooting range for the Chicago Police Department. Then the assholes who try to break in will be close to their final resting place. Problem solved
Back in the late 80's early 90's while working in 020 we did a lot of partying in that wooded area of Rosehill. What a good time.
I/F.
Fuck the mutts. Cut off the funding and they will move somewhere else. Easy fix
Rahm said we must all make the hard choices by making financial sacrifices and tighten our belts to help chicago get out of it's $$$$ problems.
Yeah sure Rahm you are really making the hard choices by spending money we don't have and don't need to spend. Do we really need to spend all that $$$$ on this land???? How can we believe Rahm anymore when he says chicago is hurting financially?

Yeah just like the "bird sanctuary" at montrose harbor. It's nothing but a place for gay men to meet and have open sex in the woods. It's now a disgusting shithole with used condoms and other garbage left all over.
parks for savages and tourists..but no money for the city workers pensions..please city workers take a pay cut. while alderman get raises for part time job and are on more special boards collecting a check..

If you were the police, it would be a problem. More criminals, less police, means more officers killed on duty. Taxpayers are leaving because the democrats way of business(including how they deal with us)is not conducive to a non-criminal lifestyle.
Uh-Oh..this is baraka calling Chicago spin control over.....
The monarchy is not going to like this news at all.

Rivers Casino is killing other Illinois casinos: Illinois Gaming Board
Rivers Casino - the newest Illinois casino located in Des Plaines, Illinois - is trouncing the other Illinois casinos with its phenomenal success. Furthermore, it is likely killing Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s idea of putting yet another casino in Chicago - so close to Rivers Casino. The data to date indicates the obvious conclusion that the casino market in Illinois has been saturated. The latest data from the Illinois Gaming Board indicates that Rivers Casino has done more than twice the business of any other casino in the state during its first six weeks of operation - from July 18, 2011 to August 31, 2011.

Why can't you have housing next to a cemetery? Come out to Mount Greenwood or the Southwest suburbs. Houses and condos all over and next to grave yards. Even houses around Burr Oak cemetery in Alsip where the ghouls stole all the bodies. Alderconman O Conner probably didn't get a cut of the deal so he put a stop to the deal. By the way there is a nice neat little lake on that proposed site in Rosehill. Used to nap there on Midnights. Spooky but very very quiet!
policemen and cemeteries went together like ham and eggs--- nobody complains about anything because they are all dead and you could soak up the tranquility until the radio barked out your next job--- with the advent of gps the commander got pissed that everyone was relaxing among the dead and had the groundskeeper lock the back gate at dusk to keep the coppers out--- it was a tragic end to some of the most legendary shenanigans I have ever experienced on this job....
"...so now we're going to build park birdbaths and walkways for how many millions..."

...that the decent public wil be afraid to use.
Beautiful gardens, gazebo, chess tables built on what was a vacant lot on the southwest corner of Thorndale and Sheridan - i.e., Kenmore/Winthrop Corridor. Great place for the bangers to congregate, lounge, smoke their blunts -- no elderly person from nearby buildings would even walk through the place, let alone sit down there.
It will just be another dumping ground for unfortunate murder victims in this hole of a city!! Sad to say but true!
The new Rosehill park will be a great place to put a Democrat polling place on election day. Since Chicago Democrats are so loyal they even come out to vote even though they are dead. This way the Zombies won't have to walk so far to cast their ballots. Might even cut down on the live voters they usual put the bite on when they travel to their former polling places.
Rivers Casino is killing other Illinois casinos: Illinois Gaming Board
Been there and it is a below average casino with very hig miniums at their gambling tables and very few cashiers where people were waiting on average 45 minutes to cash out. If this place is killing all the casinos in the area then a Chicago Casino at 3 times the size of this place would smoke everyone else. To the Casino Experts. If you put a casino in downtown Chicago it would be the largest producing Casino outside of Nevada and New Jersey period. Been to the Rivers Casino. It's small, it is a below average casino with very hig miniums at their gambling tables, very few cashiers where people were waiting on average 45 minutes to cash out. The dining choices are very limited. Imagine a casino downtown with all the established resturants. All the people living in the condos down there within walking distance. What it would mean to the survival of McCormick place. If this place is killing all the casinos in the area then a Chicago Casino at 3 times the size of this place would smoke everyone else.It is also the last hope we have here in Chicago of saving this city and in turn saving all city pension funds and giving the taxpayers some releif who have been getting hosed for years. If the casino does not happen in Chicago we are all going to be paying more to the piper period. I don't give a fuck about what special interest, or what entity produced what study. So let's get them wheel of fortune slots going in downtown chicago. You build it, they will come.
I thought we were broke????????????
As soon as they spend TIF in your neighborhood they put section 8 housing in.
No mention of the unknown project to be built on Bowmanville....the park is just cover!
Why not put the new Chicago casinin Rosehill cemetery next to the Gangbanger/Homeless park. This way if you win the city can take you out back and dispose of you. This way the house always wins. Just like the roach motel...You check in but you don't check out.
There's a novel to be written about the moonlight (and daylight) escapades that took place back in those woods next to the lake. Wambaugh's Choirboys had nothing on 020/024's midnight watch.
