Money for Nature

  • The city would acquire 21 acres of woods and wetlands that belong to the sprawling Rosehill Cemetery on the Northwest Side and turn the tract of land into a nature preserve under a plan introduced by Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

The mayor is seeking city approval to spend $7.8 million — which would come from tax increment financing and tax-exempt bonds — to acquire the land in the northwest corner of the cemetery, roughly Peterson and Western. The city would then turn the tract of land over to the Chicago Park District for a $1.

“The land will be developed into a nature preserve with walking trails, a bird sanctuary and fishing opportunities in the existing ... pond,” Michele Lemons, a park district spokeswoman, said in an e-mail to the Sun-Times.

Priorities. And remember where we all fall in that list.

I realize how this looks on the surface to you, SCC, but this is actually putting to rest a long-standing feud with the owners of Rosehill. IIRC, there was a plan by the owners to sell off the wooded property to housing developers. Yes, homes right next to a cemetary. O'Connor, for once in his life, did the right thing and put a kibosh on the development. I think this nature park thing is to ensure that homes are never built next to Rosehill, which is a historic cemetary like Graceland.

However, I can't WAIT for the numbnuts who want the city to buy Edgewater and turn it into a park to start screaming. Nevermind that there's asbestos and bankruptcy problems with the building. Who knows, maybe this is a sop to their overinflated sense of worth.

So let's see.

The Fed gives us an FICA payroll tax break of 2% Robbing from our future retirement dollars so that we can spend the money now to stimulate the economy

However...The State of Illinois immediately increases our State income tax rates by 2% so that Illinoisan's never see a dime of that tax break..

(( They had to act fast so that the money would never show up in a single paycheck because people don't miss what they never had. ))

Then with the new windfall tax increase in hand, the governor goes on a corporate tax break award spree handing out our FICA retirement account dollars, that we ourselves will have to replace later because you know damn well we can't tax the corporations, to various corporations claiming that it's going to create/save jobs.

The governor is the decider who gets the money!

Motorola Mobility was one of the last ones to get a deal and no sooner then the tax break deal was signed Motorola Mobility was sold.

What happen to the tax break? What happen to my retirement money that was stolen?

I don't see any jobs and it sure doesn't feel like we're all in this together. It feels like a ponzi scam.

In fact it feels like the Illinois and Chicago monarchy is redistribution wealth as they please. To parking meter contractors and clouted friends. Tow Truck operating clouted friends to run the pounds..and OMG the list just keeps going on and on I can't list it all here.

Did Sears get their tax break yet. I know the CME group has been running the extortion game and they're up next. Talk about welfare. Look at all this corporate welfare!

"Give us tax breaks or we will behead these careers and you will lose the tax revenue!!"

heh the only thing that's missing is a video tape being sent to Al Jazeera no?

What ever happen to "we don't negotiate with terrorist"?

Anyways, so now we're going to build park birdbaths and walkways for how many millions while we close prisons and metal health centers and move the homeless people that once resided in them to their new homes in the police stations.

Brilliant!!

We don't want these piss bums mucking up the new planters and flower pots in the parks by lying around ya know. Shove them in the police lobby and get 'em off the streets.

It's the result of that mold that has surfaced in City/department facilities. It was originally created to ensure victories for the daley machine. They now use it to ensure that future generations of police officers will not question corruption & not embarass the crime machine that is raping the city. The Gold Stars are injected with the mold when they receive Merit promotions. This is why they are such blithering idiots.

This so called Nature Preserve will be a great place to bury the skeletons. The closets & basement of city hall are filled to capacity.

Let's get something clear. The City of Chicago is shrinking. FAST.

LA has almost a million more residents and a smaller police force than Chicago. New York has 30k for almost 9 million people.

In the 2020 census, Chicago will be the fourth largest city behind Houston. In 2030, Chicago will be lucky to be in the top 8. Cities in Texas, Florida, and southern CA will all surpass Chicago.

Chicago has lots of problems, but the police department being too small is not one of them. Having way too many criminals, well, that's a problem. It's too bad that there are too few taxpayers to solve that problem with more police officers. It's much more likely they'll just solve that problem by moving away.

Your experience is probably one of the reasons why Edgewater went broke. The people who are agitating for a park are the ones who have moved into those homes that were built on parking lots just to the north of the building. They want Edgewater turned into a park for their special snowflakes because, you know, their kids are so much more special than the generations of children that lived to the south of the hopsital without a park.

I have a bit of an issue with the fact that a bunch of yuppies who overpaid for shit new construction feel they are entitled to spend city money on a boondoggle.

And 09:00:00 AM - that sucks. I hadn't seen that letter. May as well call Peterson and Ravenswood the human warehouse corridor.

Something Jane Byrne battled with everyone and never needed any body guards provided by the tax payers .

21 acres for the use of homeless bums, Gangbangers, and perverts. No one decent will walk around that park. I thought the city was brooke. We buy it for almost $8 million and then give it back to the Park District for one dollar? Let the Park District buy it for themselves. They are a seperate taxing body and can get the funds. TIF is just a giant piggy bank for Chicago mayors to hand out favors and give money to connected low lifes. Emmanuel also gets to put his moniker on the freeloader sign donating the land. I wonder who is going to make all the money off of this deal. I know they don't look in the yellow pages for lawyers, contractors, and such. Rahm has over $867 million sitting in that TIF account. Time taxpayers took that money and used it for US and not arrogant selfish politicians.

Rivers Casino is killing other Illinois casinos: Illinois Gaming Board

Rivers Casino - the newest Illinois casino located in Des Plaines, Illinois - is trouncing the other Illinois casinos with its phenomenal success. Furthermore, it is likely killing Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s idea of putting yet another casino in Chicago - so close to Rivers Casino. The data to date indicates the obvious conclusion that the casino market in Illinois has been saturated. The latest data from the Illinois Gaming Board indicates that Rivers Casino has done more than twice the business of any other casino in the state during its first six weeks of operation - from July 18, 2011 to August 31, 2011.

Why can't you have housing next to a cemetery? Come out to Mount Greenwood or the Southwest suburbs. Houses and condos all over and next to grave yards. Even houses around Burr Oak cemetery in Alsip where the ghouls stole all the bodies. Alderconman O Conner probably didn't get a cut of the deal so he put a stop to the deal. By the way there is a nice neat little lake on that proposed site in Rosehill. Used to nap there on Midnights. Spooky but very very quiet!

Rivers Casino is killing other Illinois casinos: Illinois Gaming Board

Been there and it is a below average casino with very hig miniums at their gambling tables and very few cashiers where people were waiting on average 45 minutes to cash out. If this place is killing all the casinos in the area then a Chicago Casino at 3 times the size of this place would smoke everyone else. To the Casino Experts. If you put a casino in downtown Chicago it would be the largest producing Casino outside of Nevada and New Jersey period. Been to the Rivers Casino. It's small, it is a below average casino with very hig miniums at their gambling tables, very few cashiers where people were waiting on average 45 minutes to cash out. The dining choices are very limited. Imagine a casino downtown with all the established resturants. All the people living in the condos down there within walking distance. What it would mean to the survival of McCormick place. If this place is killing all the casinos in the area then a Chicago Casino at 3 times the size of this place would smoke everyone else.It is also the last hope we have here in Chicago of saving this city and in turn saving all city pension funds and giving the taxpayers some releif who have been getting hosed for years. If the casino does not happen in Chicago we are all going to be paying more to the piper period. I don't give a fuck about what special interest, or what entity produced what study. So let's get them wheel of fortune slots going in downtown chicago. You build it, they will come.
