OEMC Cuts
Chicago firefighter-turned-alderman Nick Sposato (36th) and the union representing fire dispatchers maneuvered Monday to kill Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s plan to reduce the ranks of police and fire dispatchers at the city’s 911 emergency center.
Fire and EMS dispatcher Jeff Johnson , union steward for IBEW Local 9, said the mayor’s plan to eliminate the jobs of 17 fire dispatchers, lay off nine others and shrink the supervisory ranks from 13 to 8 could send response times and employee burn-out rates through the roof.
The jobs of 45 police dispatchers would also be eliminated. So would four of 22 radio repair technicians at a time when radio and data frequencies need to be reprogrammed to comply with a Federal Communications Commission mandate.

'Onion Field' killer seeks compassionate release

The state parole board will consider Tuesday whether to release a man known as the "Onion Field" killer, who was convicted in the 1963 kidnapping and murder of a Los Angeles police officer.
Gregory Powell, 77, was convicted of killing on-duty LAPD Officer Ian Campbell and sentenced to death, but the sentence was later reduced to life without parole.
Campbell and his partner, Karl Hettinger, had pulled over Powell and accomplice Jimmy Lee Smith. Powell pulled a gun and disarmed Campbell, then forced Hettinger to give up his weapon.
Powell and Smith took the officers to a deserted onion field near Bakersfield, where Powell executed Campbell. Hettinger escaped.
Joseph Wambaugh wrote the book "The Onion Field" about the case. Smith died in prison in 2007.
Powell, who has prostate cancer, is asking for compassionate release from prison. The union of Los Angeles police officers has opposed his request. The board of the Los Angeles Police Protective League said in a statement posted on the union's website earlier this month, "It defeats the purpose of a life sentence if, at the end of life, cold-blooded murderers like Powell are let out so their last days can be spent in comfort.
Part of the deserved punishment for his brutal crime is that he spend his last waking moments deprived of freedom."
The union noted that Powell has been denied parole 11 times since 1972.

Welfare is state and federal, link cards are state or maybe federal and the shitty stores allowing the bogus purchases are under state control, as you point out. Next time you are in Jewel or WalMart or Target or wherever, take a minute to see the shit that they sell for food stamps and link money. “The 99% of Illinoisans that don’t get a double dip pension, a legislative scholarship, a county or city job, an interest-free loan from the government, or special treatment on their property tax appeals should be outraged,” said Brady.
Brady made the statement following the latest revelation about Madigan from a Chicago Sun-Times/Better Government report that Kenneth E. Pannaralla – once a top precinct captain for Madigan – got a pension from the City of Chicago in addition to the three paychecks from his three current government jobs, including one as the executive director of the Southwest Home Equity Assurance Program, a government agency created under a law Madigan co-sponsored.
Madigan, who is also chairman of the Illinois Democratic Party, also gave Pannaralla’s daughter, Jennifer Pannaralla, a one-year legislative scholarship in 2003 to the University of Illinois at Chicago. And Pannaralla’s son, Kenneth, is paid $24,000 a year as an aide to Madigan. Pannaralla also received $25,000 in interest free loans from the government agency he oversees.
“‘Occupy Chicago’ should ‘Occupy Madiganville,’” said Brady. “What’s a couple of bad years in the market compared to 40 years of getting it stuck to you by the Madigan Machine!”

The Lodge's position is that these new helmets would be the subject of a first issue item. Any member who is told that he is required to purchase a new helmet as a condition of remaining in his current assignment should contact the Lodge immediately.
Why anyone would stay on a tact team or special unit is beyond me. The G8 is approaching and WE have the power. Leave tact and go back to patrol. In tact they can mess with you. If there is no-one on tact, the Department if screwed.

Love it!! Racoon eyes is perfect for the one term Mayor of Chicago. I predict that Obama will lose miserably and his little buddy Rahm will do the same. The tax payers of Chicago will not tolerate this a hole for another term.
I've been at oemc for a while and the place is mismanaged. Too many clout heavy people work there, do not produce, and are never disciplined.
The 4th floor has too many administrative positions, there are too many floor supervisors, and why the hell does there have to be 2 watch managers per watch?
But the answer is always: cut the people from the bottom who make the least amount of money and do the most amount of work.
Reporters and investigators:
Overtime is used to cover the medical abusers and people who do nothing.
The medical roll is documented, there are a dozen people on a leave of absence, and people who use a sick day every chance they get. There are people that have been there 10 years and do not have 1 day of medical time. File a FOIA.
Supervisors are supposed to track every one's performance and stats. They keep records and perform 6 month reviews. Ratings are 1 through 4 (poor to excellent) in several categories including attendance, number of calls taken, time spent in busy. File a FOIA and see who the assholes are, and connect the dots. Could mush mouth be a dispatcher on his own merits? Cortez Trotter and his reverend political bullshit got him hired.
Speaking of the stats, log in time in CAD, number of calls taken and time spent in busy is tracked daily. Why are the dogs who take 80 to 100 calls a night allowed to work? Why don't supervisors ever talk to the call takers who sit in busy? Why don't the supervisors talk to the dispatchers who are never at their station?
The answer is poor management. Political connections, favoritism, and indifference jack up the overtime. Look at the stats, look at the GIGANTIC difference between the people who perform and those who don't.
Fire the dogs, keep the people who work. There would be no overtime and efficiency would be at 100%

All cpd & cfd dispatchers & calltakers are city employees and their payroll is in the city budget. None of the Homeland Security or 911 tax revenue is used for city employee pay. FYI...the 911 tax revenue did pay for the plants & furniture in the atrium outside of the operations floor! Go figure! And Homeland Security.....maybe that pays for the security guards @ 1411 Madison.

Just went through 3 days of training for Crowd Control...all tact teams are doing this city wide....our helmets work fine with shield and gas mask...never has been an issue...the problem is that the helmets we currently have are DOT(dep of transportation) rated...not riot...the shield has been broken in training numerous times by tennis balls...thats why new helmets are needed and not just for Tact...everyone needs them if the end up near the G8/NATO

Hey 10 of those 12 are about the same incident. It should only count as one misstep. I agree that he shouild of handled it differently, but I have seen plenty of times where cops, their wife or kid has had things happened that we just look the other way. It happens ALL THE TIME in some areas.

I wonder how everyone would feel for example if the 19th ward was given half to Carrie Austin and half to Howard Brookins. Go ahead and use this as an excuse to bash O'Shea, but think about it.

Go ahead & put my house in one of their wards. Ginger & O'shea only take care of the choosen few. Plus if the 19th was gone we would have so many stupid useless bosses on this job because they would have never been promoted without Ginger's help. There are probably more "Merit" promoted people in the 19th ward then anywhere else.
just look at all the take home cars out here. And dumba$$ bosses or do nothings sriving them.

Hey 10 of those 12 are about the same incident. It should only count as one misstep. I agree that he shouild of handled it differently, but I have seen plenty of times where cops, their wife or kid has had things happened that we just look the other way. It happens ALL THE TIME in some areas.

That doesn't mean it SHOULD happen 'all the time'.
I for one feel as thou we can get by with less call takers down at the OEMC. We should just go to an automated system to save money for this GREAT & PROUD city.
