Budget Crisis?

We could have sworn there was a budget crisis somewhere nearby, but we guess not:
  • Mayor Rahm Emanuel today took steps to make sure homeless people seeking help in the wee hours of the morning during the winter can get rides to shelters — just two days after aldermen pushed back on the issue.

Under the mayor’s plan, $200,000 would be set aside to reinstate two to three homeless outreach teams between 12 a.m. and 8 a.m. from Nov. 15 until temperatures warm up again, likely sometime in April. Overnight teams were eliminated about two months ago after the state cut in half grant funding that helped pay for city homeless services.

The cuts fell under the spotlight Monday, when the aldermen expressed concern about it at a budget hearing.

No word about the aldercreatures' supposed "concern" regarding city employee pensions. Whenever that uncomfortable subject comes up, it's always "cut, cut, cut and we'll call it reform."

Evidently we must vote even less than homeless people since the aldercreatures and Rahm are sucking up to their unwashed asses. Plus, Rahm doesn't want to look like a complete hypocrite driving around Shortshank's ass and not catering to the other dregs of society.

at least we will have a ride to stay warm when we retire and have nothing to show for it.

Besides the bizarre suggestion that they take cabs to the shelters, an alternative solution was for you all to take them, so this might be a case of money well spent.

Fuck them. All those homeless have the opportunity to go to a shelter. Those still on the street refuse to, why? Because they would have to listen to rules, be in by a curfew, not come in high or drunk, not use alcohol or illegal drugs on the premises, show proof of their actual identity, sign up and participate in job glasses or educational meetings, etc. They are all big boys and girls. Let them live on the street then without the tax payers having to flip the bill.

They would have plenty of money for those over night workers if we eliminated 25 aldermen, their offices (2 each, one at the hall and one in the ward) and all those staffers that do nothing but tell you to call 311 for service!

Doubling water rates by 2015, charging $120 for an extra 200,000 vehicles that weigh too much under Racoon Eyes new standards, imposing speeding cameras on 50% of city streets, more taxes on city parking garages, and whatever else his tax generating munchkins think up to fuck all of us living in Chicago. Fact is all of these proposals are trial balloons to see what he can get away with. Imagine how many thousands of calls have been made to night crawling Alderfools about their outrage at these new "revenue enhancements". Fuck this little uncaring asshole. But this is how politics are played in the State of Illinois and Crook County. The politicians do all their butt fucking of the peasants during the first two years of their four year terms. Then play nice the last two years before the next election in hopes that we are as stupid as they believe and we will forget about being cornholed by our elected leaders. The Com Edison rate increase is a perfect example. We will be getting raped by Com Ed for the next ten years and these low life greedy Bastards didn't even buy us dinner before hand. A movie after dinner would have been nice too.

The park district is reassigning "McFed" people, maybe they can work midnights, ship the homeless there and when they arrive, assign them a mop or broom to clean-up and earn their keep. Win-Win, as Rham would say. The 13 Ward would be a good pilot program

Speaking of assholes......looking at the SunTimes this morning I'm glad to see that yet another Federal Judge has ruled against Daley and has said he CAN be SUED over alleged police torture.

Next question......will he have the city (aka: tax payers) pay for his defense?

No offense SCC but does CPD think that they are special?

I mean the private sector has had their FICA raided, their 401k's raided and their IRA's raided and so now they are going for the public pensions.

Gee what a surprise!!!

Look around you.

No-one is getting busted for the frauds and the thefts.

* Oy…

The 2012 budget passed by the state legislature and signed by Gov. Pat Quinn earlier this year cuts funding for homeless prevention services by 52 percent, eliminating $4.7 million for shelters, emergency housing and transportation. Homeless advocates are fighting for that funding to be restored, but neither party seems optimistic about that happening.

Numbers from the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless indicate that more people were turned away from homeless services last year than were taken in. That’s 45,673 turn-aways compared with 40,542 intakes.

But, hey, the state apparently has $800 million in extra cash laying around for tax breaks.

The reality of this deal and many other deals that will be cut in the next few months is that this is what Rham wanted the entire time.

Rham had planed to give $200000 to this from the start but by saying he was going to cut it and gut it completely he know looks like a good guy for "coming up with" money for it in the end.

Watch the library hours remain open or go to new "longer" hours then what is now being suggested. And after the debates continue over that, look closely at the mental health facilities, and I bet you it will be the same thing. They are all going to suffer cuts, but in the 11th hour, suddenly Rham has figured out ways to keep the services going longer than what he PUBLICLY floated out to the press.

The sheep will continue to think: Wow, what a great guy Rham is - he really cares about us. And with that, they will continue to vote for him.

Sadly, this is why, as SCC points out, that even the homeless carry more weight with Rham than the CPD.

To the spelling police - I know it is Rahm but I prefer to go with Rham - fits his actions better. He is going to r(h)am his will on you - just know you'll be better for it.

City Budget: There is no budget crisis in the city of chicago. All the funds needed for services are locked up in TIF'S. The books need to be opened and prove the assets and liabilities of the city. The government should be there to provide basic services and then with additional assets provide more humanitarian services like rides for the homeless after a day of soliciting on city streets and CTA properties to be chauffeured to their over night accommodations. The repeal of all TIF accounts should be priority one for our city residence as the mayoral slush fund taken away. The mayor and alderman should propose in open council meetings the future spending of city monies. CityWorker

The earth now has over 7 billion people. How can the world support this many? Modern tech keeps it this way. Without modern tech, this world can only support about 2-3 billion. Perhaps its time for a full blown world war again? Isn't it natures way of survival of the fittest? If the homeless die, its the way it is....

I don't get it- if it's freezing ass cold out why don't they stay at/near the shelters? I'm unemployed. I walk. Everywhere. Even in the cold, wind and snow. I'm about to walk 4+ miles back and forth for a doctor's appointment right now. I don't expect the mayor to pay my way there- should I now??

AND WHY THE HELL IS THIS SERVICE BEING OFFERED AT THE HOURS IT'S BEING OFFERED???? Hello?? Doesn't that support and encourage their HABITS? When they're done assaulting, robbing, drugging, verbally abusing citizens for the day, (and yes, I've been yelled at numerous times by these creeps for saying "Sorry" when they ask me for cash) they get a FREE ride back to a FREE shelter to sleep their FREE high off???? Is there no civic duty expected of these bottom feeders?? What about giving that money to families with sick children instead? I'd vote yes.

Just saw this on "Illinois Review", thought you might find interesting. Its not just Rahm with the speed cameras, apparently a donation goes a long way. I think you get the point.
"Kirk Dillard has taken donations from red light camera companies, including "RedSpeed," as recently as last year – well after legislators knew all the facts about red light cameras and why they should be opposed to them."
