New Unit?

Anyone with half a brain could see this rumor starting up:
  • Over heard talk of a unit opening up second period, 120 Officers, 6 sgts and 2 Lt.s you need to be carbine and riot trained to apply. Going to be used as a misson team when things go bad, and lets face it in this city things go bad fast and often. Downtown wants a unit they can call up and dispatch to a busy district with zero notice, intereasting sounds like what sos and msf was for but since we have new bosses we will have a new name for the uint and new clouted know it alls in it.
Someone else one-ups the totals:
  • There will be a new unit, but it will be closer to 180-200. All current sat and gun teams will be the members. They will try and break into 3 teams, 60-70 each, 1 sgt for each team and 3 Lts total, with an xo running the show.
In the meantime, following the disbanding of SOS, TRU and MSF, there are no openings posted for transfer for the fourth month of the past five. None, not a single opportunity to move. Which of course, leads us to agree with those who say volunteering for this unit is just begging to have it broken off in your ass a few years down the line. Chicago isn't hiring in any great numbers, Rahm wants a 9,000 man department at the maximum, and all the politicos have to do to staff a district properly is disband a platoon or two to somewhere far away from home and then close the openings.

Guess what Our leaders feel that when the 3 district are closed they will have an extra 120-180 po's hence the new unit. The New 012 will have only 12 beats! that the way it going to be with the other redistricting.
Look for another 2 districts to be on the chopping block in Feb

Yeah the new division name will be called purgatory. A temporary holding place to reside until it's determined and verified that the district from where you once came is working just fine without you.

Preferably it will be the more senior people with the more expensive benefit plans that we hope to lure into these jobs -- as it will enable the sanctuary city to put out press releases about how we are "saving" and it's goodness.

How can anyone trust the people stealing pensions and breaking promises? How?

BTW..speaking of pensions...

Watch carefully around the upcoming holiday either during the deep dark of night or while you're busy with black Friday shopping or coming out of that Thanksgiving coma. That is when your noble and honorable lawmakers will act in presenting and passing million dollar tax breaks for Sears and for the CME. Watch how they sneak it through with a low profile as everyone is distracted with holiday happiness.

It's our money. Money that should be in the budget and enabling pension funding contributions.

Instead it's going to the corporations.

We don't have a mayor of Chicago. We have a mayor of the CME group. We don't have a Governor of Illinois. We have a Governor of Sears, and Ford, and Motorola Mobility.

They don't represent the people. They represent the corporations. All the assets are being transferred to the corporations and the liabilities that are left behind are placed upon the taxpayers.

They get a tax break -- we get a tax increase. We have money taken our of our social security FICA payroll tax and the public pensions and it's given to the corporations giving us b.s. about it creating jobs. It's b.s.

Look around. The parking meter deal was an asset. It generated revenue and it was given to a corporation.

The water bill increase to repair and upgrade the infrastructure? That's a liability let the taxpayers pay for it.

The lists go on and on..

Besides when I make supt I'm just gonna disband it and start my own high speed low drag unit. Its gonna be a unit that can rapidly deploy anywhere in the city at a moments notice, flood the lock up with one bag arrest, and crash the I clear system with contact cards. I think I ll call it the tactical mobile ninja squad. All members will be required to change days off, no summer furloughs, and being willing to jump on paper in order to maintain peace throughout the city.

RUN-Rahm-RUN...

File under politics:

You call this journalism NBC?

Source: http://www.nbcchicago.com/blogs/ward-room/134302173.html#ixzz1ePwjgpjd
"

Just what is NBC reporting on here? Yeah protestors heckle Rahm?

Nothing in the text about what the message was from the hecklers. I want to read what they had to say as it seems like it's an important part of the story here. Furthermore, we have this quote...

"Over the weekend, Illinois Sen. Mark Kirk criticized the Occupy movement, calling it "un-American" and consisting of "generally spoiled, pampered, unfocused clueless young people."

-----

Get the facts straight NBC.

Illinois Rep. Joe Walsh made that comment over the weekend and the hilarious thing about it is that Mr. Walsh admits in his town hall video that he has never even attended a General Assembly meeting at Occupy and so -- we wonder how he can speak as some sort of expert on who the people are that make it up!

Rep. Joe Walsh: "Occupy" Protesters Are CLUELESS

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVhzNedtjt4

I know some people will argue that it's disrespectful to heckle the mayor and I reply that respect is something you earn.

I'm disappointed. There's no meat in this NBC story.

From the NBC angle presented my interpretation is it's about turning on the Christmas lights and convincing the taxpayers to spend money at the corporations.

Rahm looked like he couldn't get out of there fast enough.

Regarding units: Cold case closing. Det's going to areas. New auto theft unit opening. All financial crimes det's from all areas are supposed to go to new financial crime unit to be housed in A4. I don't know how they can do this. I do F/C in Area 3--are they saying I have to go there whether I want to or not? Or are they going to have enough volunteers? I thought everything had to be subject to bid? If they open a new unit, wouldn't people have to have the opportunity to bid to it, a la, a new financial unit or auto theft unit? Will the new auto theft unit be detectives or po's? I hope FOP is paying attention!!!!!

Still not even sure what Areas are closing. Is it 4 and 5, or 3 and 5, or 3 and 4? With 20 years on, I can't see them arbitrarily forcing me to go anywhere! Anybody else heard anything?

hate to tell you but we are at full strength right now. You will never again see 13000 cops on this department. Dont you remember that they got rid of the vacancies? That means from now on our department is only 9600. We are "not short" right now. Any officers we loose from now will be short. It takes almost an act of god to make more vacancies i.e. the next mayor wants the manpower of the cpd to be increased from 9600 to 11,000. There has to be huge debate, negotiations, budget hearings etc in order for the approval to make those spots. but it takes one swipe of a pen to get rid of them all. Say goodbye to the manpower of years ago. what you see now is our current full strength.

SCC,
Bottom line.....murders are down from last year and it looks by the end of the year there will be less murders then previous Superintendents. We are close to 1000 police officers short and we as CPD did it. My next point is we also have 1500 carbines on the street. I estimate that number will double with relaxing the fitness standards being relaxed. Ground on the outdoor range broken. That means we will have an outdoor range by next time this year. Figure that, the second largest police department in the country, and we now get an outdoor range. The previous Supt's (Martin, Rodriguez, Hillard, and Cline) never would have started a Carbine Program. Did you forget that LeRoy Martin was presented with a Glock so he got pissed off and kept Glock off the approved carry list. Even that past joke of a unit, HBT, was not allowed to carry their carbines. The only way they could take the M4s out of the truck is if they broke the seal on the case that had to be shared and later you had to write a To/From why you did. I hate to say this but J-Fed has done more for CPD then any of the previous Superintendent's. With the recent hardcore violence with assault rifles against us and the threat of terrorism I have an AR-15 in my trunk to do good things. Say whatever you want about J-Fed none of these past or future Superintendents would have allowed us to have AR-15s or the extra training that go with it. Give credit were credit is due. This new Supt is destroying us more then J-Fed ever did. Take the gloves off on this new guy.

F/C Detective in Area 3 why don't you ask your F.O.P. Rep about the reorganization? He explained it to me,probably because you work somewhere else. I will help you out, Area 3 & 4 Closing. If you want to stay in Area 3 you will, but you will do Robberies, Burglaries or SVU. No Financial Crimes. If you want to do Financial Crimes you can go to Kedzie & Harrison 2nd Floor, which will house F.C and Fugitives. Hope that helps you out.

The unit will be called FMT... fool me twice... and po's will line up for the screwing...

I was in msf. I live in 017. Got dumped to 004. My commute everyday is insane. So why shouldnt I bid for a new unit???? I would rather drive back to homan square instead of four. I dont see myself getting out of 4 anytime soon. So sure, I will try to get to the new unit as Im sure many will do. If they disband it so what. They will do what??? They cant possibly send me any farther away from where I live than I do now. So if i can get out of four four two or three years then so be it. I could care less about working for the "company" or thinking im elite. I will try to go to this unit so it can help me out. If people dont want to apply then great... better chance for me to get in.

An IQ of 72?

You are lucky if the combined IQ of both partners reaches 50.

11/22/2011 06:07:00 PM

This statement is only partially true, the full time SWAT team was started under Supt.Cline, we were all issued our own m4's at this time. This unit was under the direction of commander Matt Tobias and Lt. Gulliford. As far as calling HBT a joke, it's about time you get over your insecurities and accept that fact that HBT is apart of CPD history and apart of history I am glad to been apart of! Calling HBT a joke is like saying my life is worthless and I don't take a liking to this comment because all of our lives are worth something. We are definitely better than we were back then but by no means are we perfect, we are still a work in progress. God bless and be safe, Greg Insley

Oh no the sky is falling because it was posted on the internet! Believe everything that someone with 5 minuted of time has to post to keep everyone salivating. This unit is not happening, then mcstupid won't be able to yell at the commanders that he gave them the resources and they haven't produced results. Wake up dummies!

Is SWAT letgit? Or should I not even bother. Please SCC can you let us know. Three of us are thinking about going through the process but would like to know if you have any info. I keep hearing they already know who they want. I don't want waste my time and be disappointed. Can you help us out and open a post? They are supposedly going to start the process 02 jan 12. Thank you for helping us and keep up the good work.

Yes, I can honestly say this test is legit! If you have the highest scores in the shooting, PT and confidence tests you will have no problem but if you are only meeting the bare minimum standards you will be on the bubble. So it depends on how bad you want and how hard you are willing to train for it... This is the city of Chicago after all and I can not guarantee that 1 or 2 guys will squeeze through the cracks but I will promise you that they will still have to pass all phases of the test to get in. Good luck to all who choose to put their talent where their mouth is! (AKA shit talkers) Those who are confident in themselves and their talent don't need to brag, I look forward to your arrival. God bless and be safe, Greg Insley unit 353 SWAT

People can say what they want but for some POs its the only way to get out of Area 2. I don't blame anyone for trying to further their career or trying something different.

If someone wants to apply for an open vancancy and the Commanding Officer selects him ir her then what is the problem. Let people make their own choices and start worrying about yourself. Even if the unit is not effective, you still should not care. Lets remember as Police Officers we are obligated to serve and protect. We are not not responsible for running this department, so quit blaming others because policies are not being set by your personal satisfaction, which will be only be to your advantage.

Received email from City Hall friend. Retirement age being changed to 65 nexdt spring. Anyone forced to retire at age 63 has a class action lawsuit win for two years of additional service and 5% pension increase.

Cool I'm 29 and work in 03 with no hope of moving. I'll work "36" more years. Are they fucking nuts.

I say do what's best for you and your family. The guy who lives in 017, I don't blame you for applying to the new unit. The drive alone would make my mind up. I know there are many officers who are in the same boat as you. Good luck and hope all works out. Be safe and back each other up. Those who are not traveling back and forth have no clue how frustrating it is for these officers. I feel for them they were screwed.

I was a member of HBT, We did very well back in the day with little or no equipmwnt, times changd and new stuff came out, guys are better equipped now and thats half the battle, we didn't have the schools they have now to attend, The biggest enemie of HBT was Sgt. AK. he has made very sad and undocumented things about past HBT members, this goof ,just because he went overseas and worked for Blackwater or some other company, has absolutely no business being a SGT in chicago, he will cause someone some serious injury or worst someday. The powers to be better look at this man before he screws up big time. PS. We think he is a JOKE. And to all of you out thewre who want to try out for SWAT, I say good luck , go for it.

If you volunteer for this you will not be able to fight it due to the fact you volunteered for this crap and they will treat you as such!!!!!!!!!! Just like the Obama unit where dumb ass P.O.'s left there units to work 12hr shifts all to get dumped back... Aint that right CB and AD

After reading your post, you are the ferfect definition of a asshat. Policies that force young officers to drive 25 miles to work during rush hour traffic? Personal satisfaction meaning just to say hello to your children every day instead of allowing 3 hours of driving time to and from work? I will show up to work but that is all.

If the law changes after you hit 63and then it goes to 65 too bad. Law changes are not retroactive I retired 75 years ago at age 63 so count me in on the suit I sure need the 5% for my pension Your friend at city hall doesnt have a clue
He they didnt pay my hospitalization until medicare so shouldnt I be able to collect on that and when I retired it was 2% a year so they owe me 1/2 a year and back pay with interest
My point is that the pension that applies at the time you retired is what your stuck with

For the person who has a long commute and does not get to see his child, nobody really cares about your personal problems. If you are one of those "Baby like" officers who refuse to perform their assignment because they can't get what they want then so be it but please don't get out of the squad car. I wouldn't want to see you get other hard working officers hurt because you want to make a statement. Call me an asshat all you want but you are clearly the one who has the problem. Maybe you should get help from the EAP before its too late.

To those wondering if the SWAT tryout is legitimate, I understand your concern based on how the vast majority of our Department and city government are managed. Please don't be discouraged by the naysayers. If you're interested, sign-up and come to the tryout.

In terms of qualifications for entry, it is hands-down the most legitimate unit in the city. SWAT has more unclouted members than you can shake a stick at and every one of them can pass the SWAT course of fire, is physically fit, and is willing to respond and handle every high risk incident that comes their way.

SWAT is constantly seeking improvement. We're looking for talented, motivated officers who have a good attitude (humble) and strong work ethic. If this describes you and you're up for the challenge, please apply. Help us become a better SWAT Team.

I hope this message alleviates some concerns. See you in January.
