Whoops 2
Remember, trouble strikes in threes:
A 62-year-old man held on aggravated assault charges apparently hanged himself early Sunday at a Far South Side police lockup.
It was the second apparent suicide at the facility in four days. A man charged with murdering an Aldi security guard hanged himself in the same lockup Thursday.
Police said the man found Sunday — identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office as 62-year-old Melvin C. Woods Jr. — was taken into custody shortly after midnight on aggravated assault charges.
Woods was found about 1:20 a.m. hanging in a cell in the Calumet District police station at 727 E. 111th St., police said. He apparently hanged himself with his underwear.
On the bright side, the lockup is getting extra good at doing those "unusual occurnace" reports.

The new "Draft" order states that the "station supervisor" will check the lockup 4 times a tour . .
I'm sure this will fix the problem of arrestees hanging themselves.
. . . well.. at least they won't get a chance to get that stiff.

LOL - well done sir, well done
Copycat.
Did he at least have one of those new mattresses??????????????
Do you expect any less in area 2?
Who the hell do they got workin in the lock-up over there Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles?
What the hell was the agg assault? A kid? What did he feel that guilty about?
"Hold me down with another 'O' number in the lockup, squad!
Cameras on every street corner to generate revenue..... How about a few pointing at cells. Could pick up a dozen cameras a Costco for $200.
That would make too much sense
On the news tonight that two more Einstein's hung themselves in a city lockup on the Southside. True? The families will get an early Christmas bonus from the city.
"He apparently hanged himself with his underwear"
Maybe it was a drive-by wedgie.

I don't understand why the suicides the lock ups have matresses
MAPQUEST INFO... 7200 W HIGGINS - 727 E 111 ST. 26.90 MILES X 2= 53.80 MILES. Not bad til u add rush hour traffic and a inch of snow. 1. CARPOOL 2.4CYLINDER 3.HONEY,I'LL BE HOME IN A COUPLE HOURS???
That is EXCELLENT. They should take EVERYONE who gets locked up to A2. Even if the shit happened in 017.
Can you imagine?
You're under arrest.
Yeah, whatever, muh fucka...just get me my I-bond so I can bounce.
Oh, you didn't hear? We're not doing I-bonds anymore. You're going straight to Area 2.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
two lawsuits, ghetto lotto winners. hate to work ni that lock up..
This is just the warm up to all civilian lockup keepers. It is going to get a lot worse.
Where is Capt. White now that you need her?

does this mean that they won't go home early or fall asleep while watching their favorite show on mid nights.
civilians might do a better job
Think of the money the city will save for lockup bologna.
Maybe if we could generate revenue with suicide tickets they would put cameras in the cells in Area 2 Lockup!!!
The good thing about this is that they can not point the finger at a CPD first responder, suck on that MF's.
God Bless CPD and may all our officers come home safely to their loved ones.

Love it!
The stench from his nasty underwear is what killed him, he didn't have time to follow through with the actual hanging.
He gave himself a "speedy trial" !!!! Look at the money the system saved !!!
Lets not forget that the Chicago Police Department is downsizing, so more people, busier lockups means, more mishaps! The payouts will be enormous! Thanks for the great thinking Garry McCarthy. Please continue to make it easy for Lawyers like me!
You cant have all the prisoners naked in their cells. shit happens. remember, they did this to themselves. its not the police's fault. even if you phsically checked on them once each hour, an officer cant be watching them 24/7. oh wait, yes we can. we can have a camera system for the cells but but, um but, that would make too much sense.
About 20 years ago I ended up working that lockup because they were short. A crew came in with an arrest that had a serious "pumpkin head". The guy claimed he caught a beatdown from a Tac team but never complained that he wanted medical attention. He sat there and never said a word - even when the Watch Commander came in, looked at him and asked if he was ok. Toward the end of the tour the arrestee claims he wants medical attention. The Watch Commander says, "F him. He should have said something earlier."
Later, the guy gets released, goes to the hospital, makes a beef and everyone - the lockup crew, the Tact team and the Watch Commander catch the beef. About two years later the guy files suit - pro se, no less - from IDOC(I think it was Menard) after catching a pinch for armed robbery. The Corp counsel says to us, "We got you on the compensatory but you gotta handle the punitive damages . . . " (which came to about 2 million dollars per copper). The Corp counsel did their level best to accommodate this POS, trying to ensure that he hit the "ghetto lottery" before they even made him a solid offer of $5000. They kept us on ice for the next year and a half wondering if we were gonna have to sell our houses to make the payment. Eventually the POS realizes that he might lose in Federal court so he opts to take the nuisance money and leave it alone - while still in the lockdown.
Moral - #1 There is something seriously wrong with the system. #2Do your best to avoid working the lockup. Even if you're doing the right thing they can make it the wrong thing.
As far as Area 2 . . . What would you expect when a disproportionate number of idiots pass through those doors? The activity in Area 2surpasses all the other Areas - as does the depravity and anti-social behavior of some the residents.

What a way to go, hung by your own filthy stinking underwear, I hope he thought to face the brown stripe away from his mouth.
Keep up the good work you guys. You are doing an excellent job. Honestly, who gives a fucking shit if these assholes kill themselves?
Hat trick?
Maybe doing away with Watch Commanders will fix this.
Guess ya gotta just strip everybody naked and inventory their clothes prior to bringing them into the lock-up. LOL!!!!
New general order will state that all arrested will have their underware inventoried.
Just watched the news regarding this post... Apparently, there is now "PLUBIC"(thats how it was said) outcry for in-depth investigations into these deaths. Any piece of crap who admits to killing an innocent, hard-working guy trying to support his family.. Or, a defenseless elderly woman deserves worse! If all blatantly guilty assholes did the same, we'd save a lot of money on housing them, and court costs! Yeah underwear!!
People protesting outside the station demanding the autopsy reports. Yes. We are mercenaries. We kill the prisoners at will. This place sucks to high heaven. Hopefully lock-up logs are all in order.
Did you see the protesters at headquarters , all 2 of them. And for these stand up citizens who hung themselves. The best was the speech from one of them stating in part " the plublic" , not a typo. Sickening the illiteracy and all covered by the wonderful channel 7 news. Changed the channel immediately.
A/2 has cost the city millions the past week. Sorry no raise next few years.
A/2 is a mess, someone clean it up
Area 2 lock up is on by-pass until further notice
He always told the women he was well hung. If he had went to Catholic elementary school, he would have known that he meant well hanged.
As Sr. Martin Therese said:
"Pictures are hung and criminals are hanged."
p.s. Kudos to the poster @12:03 PM...and the 'brown stripe' comment.
"Hold me down with another 'O' number in the lockup, squad!

It is a universal number for this. I worked in the lockup and had a piece of shit try to hang himself. I kicked him down. I thought I was a hero, deserving a lifesaving award. Detectives came in, made a report, asked me my appointment date and told me I would take 3 days for this, maybe five. Watch commander wrote me out of it. Exonerated. No time. If you read this far, you know this happened a couple of decades ago.
If they would put all these assholes into a deep pit the hangings would not be possible.
Jail cells should be equipped with a noose and a wobbly stool. Save the taxpayers some money. And if the shitbirds' families try to sue, the city should fight it and force the case to a jury.
Even in Crook County I don't think enough jurors would be in favor of awarding damages to the shithead's family. And the ambulance chaser would probably bail on the case once they saw that they had to actually go to trial instead of just collect an easy settlement.

#1 was in the detective holding cell, #2 did it at night when only PO's were working... explain that.
I've got $5 on a "three-peat." What's the odds?
Is that considered an atomic wedgie?
Thank goodness I retired. I ran the hanging pool for more than 20 years. I made a chart of 31 squares representing a calendar. Every square cost $5 except the 31st square which cost $2.50 (as the 31st calendar square only come up several days a year). If anyone hung themselves in the lockup and died on that date (when he or she was pronounced dead) the person who had that date would win $152.50. It didn't matter what month it was only the date that counted. Of course Lockup personal were not allowed to enter the hanging pool.
I feel like hanging myself every day when I think about what this job has become, what will become of our pensions, the lack of respect we get from superiors and the public, and on and on. This job has definitely driven me to the brink of despair.
Why can't we put them all in paper suits?
This is the shitiest job a person with an education could ever land. I am glad I am history, I have never been more at peace and I have never had more money in the bank. This is the fucking truth , whiteshirts, blue shirts, gold braids. I wear what ever the fuck I want now but know this, I wasted a good portion of my life chasing the pension like a dope and addressing bonified clouted imbiciles by their rank. Life is bigger than the CPD hope you live long enough to figure that out. Get over it kiddies.
"Life is bigger than the CPD..."
Amen to that! I'm looking ahead now, not back. Some fond memories, many sad ones. My BP is down to 118/80, no more migraines even the wife is tolerable. Proud to be a "born again" civilian. 19-P
