Police Shooting
Starts as a rail car burglary, but quickly went south:
One person was in custody after he was shot by police in the Austin neighborhood following a pursuit that started with the looting of rail box cars on the West Side that ended with an armed suspect confronting officers, authorities said.
Officers fired on a suspect about 7:30 p.m. in the 5300 block of West Harrison Street, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien. His injuries were not life-threatening.
No cops injured, so that's a bright spot.

Processing in A2. That cold.
Ot.... On VERY good authority that the city is or will offer to lift the residency requirement if we give up our medical as it currently stands and conform to a new medical policy. The new policy would operate in the same fashion as say.. The state police where an officer would be granted 12 medical or sick days per one year. Example: office "A" has 5 years on the department, he would be granted 60 medical days or sick days. Example: office "B" has 20 years on the department he would be granted 240 medical days.. The only issue I see is sayyyyyyy you are office "A" and you suffer a torn rotator cuff which could take 6 months to fully recover... You ave only 60 medical days...what do you do? Answer: loose your job!! I don't think residency is worth our medical at all.. Especially in the current economic market, who would be able to sell their homes and make any money or sell at all?? They are taking us for complete assholes knowing how bad the economy is and only now making this offer knowing full well many of us simply cannot afford to leave let alone five up one of the best medical programs in the country... I say fuck you Rham!

Moo and Oink is back in business.
I can only echo Commissioner Hoff's statements. I am a CFD Fireman and everyday I witness the courage and professionalism of the CPD. THANK YOU ALL for doing what you do.
When I came on, it was a given that burglars never had a weapon. They made a point of it; that way, they weren't accused of any kind of 'armed' crime.
Now, different story. Everybody be very, very careful out there. Always.
Glad to hear no officers were hurt.
You all be safe out there.
Made me proud to be part of CPD. No matter what with all the bullshit where else can you work in an environment where if someone tries to hurt you That person will in return infuriate a force of people who will respond for justice/vengeance with no questions asked. Nice work tonight fellas
The unit that started this whole thing was a plain clothes covert unit from financial crimes staking out a rail road car. They didnt even have a working radio with them and dialed 9-1-1 when they started the chase and on viewed the burglary from the rail car. Unbelievable. Then the female PO who was part of the covert unit told a sgt at the crime scene after the shooting that during the initial chase they finally found the radio in the back seat but couldnt figure out how to get the battery hooked up to it to go over the air. Im just glad no coppers got hurt as a result of this

LMAO - that just made my morning.
Stalag . . . sorry. I mean Area 2 . . . ? Well, no need to contact a Public Defender or the ASA. He's either gonna give it up or end it all. I'll give it . . . four hours and then it's a done deal. As someone suggested yesterday: Send all the bad asses to Area 2. It will enhance the reputation of the Area while at the same time reduce the number of idiots around the city. I think that's what they call being "productive". You can't argue with their methods out there . . . (Former Area 2 guy).
OT - FOP sues Sun-Times and City:
Chicago Fraternal Order of Police Sues City, Sun-Times Newspaper Over Daley Nephew Police Lineup
Updated: Monday, 21 Nov 2011, 7:38 PM CST
Published : Monday, 21 Nov 2011, 7:37 PM CST
Chicago - The Fraternal Order of Police is suing both the city and the Sun-Times over the publishing of photo lineups that included the names and faces of police officers with former Mayor Richard Daley’s nephew and his friends.
The Sun-Times published the photos in Monday’s newspaper with an article about how the lineups were conducted. The lineups included several police officers, then-Mayor Daley’s nephew, Richard J. Vanecko, and two of Vanecko’s friends.
Vanecko has been accused of punching David Koschman in a 2004 brawl. Koschman died 11 days later from brain injuries he suffered from the blow.
The paper also published the names of the officers in the lineup, along with their height, weight, hair color, eye color and dates of birth.
The lawsuit, filed Monday, alleges the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) had reason to expect the city would not release the photos and the Sun-Times would not publish them. It also claims the city was in breach of contract because of a shared collective-bargaining agreement, and that the city should have prevented the Sun-Times from publishing the photos.
The suit alleges the actions violated the officers’ privacy and endangered the safety of the officers. It seeks more than $50,000 for each officer, court costs and an injunction against the city and the Sun-Times to stop future publication of the photos.

On very good information, I heard that rahm is offering all of us a paid vacation including family to the Bahamas!
Just goes to show you, that many people in specialized units think they are above the rules. The rules say while on duty you must have a workin radio, the rules say you don't chase in a covert vehicle with no emergency equipment unless extreme conditions apply. Go figure and if this blog is true and this female officer is telling the truth about the radio then dump her ass back to a beat car for opening her stupid, dumb, ignorant mouth.

"Medical for Residency" Just another rumor being started. I'm sure it has been part of Rahm's brain-storming sessions along with the thousands of other ideas on how to screw the Cops. This is exactly what the Rahm administration wants....they want these rumors to put the Cops in a panic.
Back in the day "armed" burglars took an ass kicking. It was against the rules. Much the same as pickpockets having their thumbs broken before being escorted to the city limits.

11/22/2011 01:04:00 AM"
As you point out, back in the day there used to be an unwritten code among burglars that they would not be armed. Although at that time under certain circumstances burglars did get smoked by the police (there was a "rash" of such shootings in the mid-80's), but by and large police rarely expected to encounter a burglar that was intent on using a weapon.
That has all changed. Everybody and their mama is armed to the teeth. Guns are flowing like water, everyone has one and is often more than prepared to use it. The old codes are no longer followed as many of these mopes consider it a badge of honor to shoot or shoot at the police. Home invasions are on the increase because now these scumbags have no compulsion about kicking in your door and sticking a pistol in your face.
As you said - be very careful. Things are no longer like they used to be.

WTF is wrong with you? Are you that insecure that you have to bring up the gender of the officer? They both should have known where their life lines were at the start of their tour. They obviously just got complacent and luckily weren't injured. Remember every day you and your partner can go home is a good day.

There is no way the city will ever surrender residency. The only problem the city has with medical is the constant abusers with the fake back, shoulder etc. etc. Otherwise 90% of us only use the medical for sicknesses and legit injuries. You want an example of extreme medical abuse check out 023rd. There is a foot guy there that has just about been on the medical for every part of his body and been on it more days than he has worked. That's where the problem is.
If Rahm wants something, then it must be bad for us. Even though I would lovvvvve the residency finally lifted, to lose the medical would be tuff. I haven't used the medical in years so one would argue, then what's the problem but what about that one off duty incident in which you break a leg or tweak your back really bad and recovery is going to take 3, 4 maybe 6 months. Then it's working without pay status until you recovery after your med days run dry. I don't know about you, but my family is barely getting by and that's with me working, court and side jobs.

Man, what a scene, I love it when we stick together . 10, 11, 15, GEU, etc. I almost had a tear roll down my cheek, when I looked down from the roof top where shitbird was caught. The sea of blue was overwhelming, it was great to see almost everybody out there. The show of force was beyond impressive . Ever so greatful that No CPD were hurt. I know we get it, sadly some coppers in our own dept. don't . If you were out there last night you understand, or if you have been or responded to those types of calls, you understand as well. Happy thanksgiving stay safe.

Yeah, this is some bullshit. He would go for the medical as a concession. That's one of the most important benefits of our job. Our job is hazardous enough already. Some of these injuries takes more than 3 months to heal. Hell, sometimes it takes almost 2 weeks just to get an a appointment to see a doctor if you go iod...and then you have only 6 weeks after that to get well. Bullshit! This is not worth losing the medical we have in return for living out of the city. You still have to come into this muthafucka to work. If I move out of the city, I wouldn't want to see the city...not even for work. They already screwed us with our vacation days for furlough and now they wanna chip away at another important benefit...our medical. They need to leave the medical alone. The city is not losing money because of the medical and won't save either. We won't have anything left! The pension is on the table too. This job surely won't be worth it after that and I wouldn't recommend it to a dead dog.
You would not lose your job, at the most for a non iod you would take unpaid days. Lift residency, it's worth it.

It might work for you, but like anything else it might not work for everybody. If your a homeowner in 16 or in Mt. Greenwood your better off holding the fort down. Think about where you want to live. Many suburbs have had a lagre influx of section 8 rats. You might be living near them, your kids might bring them home on a play-date.
Things can always be worse, All the sudden Daley and J-fled don't seem so bad. Racoon eyes and McDumbass are a greater threat. Bad things are coming, really bad things are coming.

Actually, comp time isn't approved until the schedule is done. It's up to the officer to call in and verify if it's been approved or not. You can't just drop a slip and think you have the day off unless it's signed and approved right then.

"Nice work"? Failing to terminate the chase after a direct order will have these Officers taking time. "Nice work" is only when you're shits in order and the outcome is 100% positive. This shitbird is going to be the "ghetto lottery" winner when this is all said and done. Hope your possessions are in a very good trust. The Depts gonna leave you hanging... Knowledge and common sense goes a long way. Use the "blancing test". was it worth it? Railroads have insurance for these thefts. Now get out there and work....
Glad the Officers didnt get hurt. Hope they come out untouched financially in a few years...
