Fair Warning
Lost in the shuffle is this little item taking effect 01 January:
- OT. Effective 01Jan2012. Alcohol testing will be part of the random drug test for PO's. Check appendix T of the current fop contract. Don't get jammed up
Breathalyzer tests will be given along with the "whiz quiz." A positive test will result in being relieved of duty without compensation. Return to duty is contingent upon a 0.0 reading. No discipline will be administered, but you will be placed in a "special pool" for six months of what can only be described as "closer observation." A second positive result means IAD gets involved.
Don't be the test case - you know they're looking for any excuse to trim manpower.

Random steroid testing starts on the first as well. All the juice heads better find a good Dr. to hook them up with a prescription.
That is a good thing. Who wants a drunken cop riding on their jobs. The biggest problem on this job is there are too many idiots, who cause trouble and make the rest of us look bad. In my opinion, if and officer comes to work drunk then his ass should be thrown out of this department.
A perfect excuse to reduce the cities pension obligation me thinks.
Let's create more laws and rules like we use the obscure city ordinance laws on the citizens as tools to whittle away at the number of people trying to reach their pension goals.
Can't you see the game?
Don't let a crisis go to waste either. The G8/NATO crisis will present a good opportunity to get people off the payroll with cause reducing the cities pension obligations. Protect yourself.
However if you're a clouted one like let's say a fire department captain or something do you think this law will be enforced?
Picking and choosing my friends.
Pick and choose which laws apply to whom. Illegal immigration to banker frauds to what residency means just pick and choose.
remember too..; any reading above a .02 is a positive . .08 is the legal driving limit. so 1/4 the state standard and you are flagged.
Isn't alcohol testing part of the captain's or lieutenant's deal already ?
This is blantant discrimination against us Irish. Hiccup. Yesh it is...
People with problems won't stop. I already know a few that will get dinged, and it's sad because they have already been offered help by bosses, cheeks turned the other way etc. The bottle of mouthwash in the locker won't help this time
Adolf Hitler and Joey Stalin must be laughing their arces off in Hell.
Trim man power? To what? parking meter maids and school crossing guards?
Unfortunately where I work we have several officers who routinely show up " fuzzy" . Come January it'll be like playing Russian roulette. This department will welcome the opportunity to jam officers up.
If you are worried about this test while working, you've got serious problems and need to get some help fast.
That means no more late night drinking, because with a hangover you could blow over the limit.
I heard you can blow up to a 0.4. Anything over that you will be sent home and will have to pee again and pass to get back.
I didn't hear anything about IAD. Didn't one of the bosses there blow way over?
The bosses have had to blow for awhile now, where've you been?
The problem is not the guys coming to work drunk. The problem will be for the guys coming to work hung over!!!!!! Go out on a bender and come to work the next day with a headache and your fucked should you get called down for the whiz quiz. Remember 0.02 is NOTHING!!!!!
The old time drunks will just pull the plug should they get dinged. More importantly the old time drunks on this job that I see work 1st watch. I haven't worked the 1st watch in a while but when I did you got called at 6 am for the whiz quiz. 1st watch officers are long gone now at 6 am with the new schedules. I don't remember anybody getting called for the quiz after 8 pm either. 1st watch starts after 8 pm.
When does the 1st watch get called for the whiz quiz?????
White Shirts started this past year.
Does the alcohol testing include your Superintendent?
---not a cop
Supervisors have been required since 01 jan 2011. So to answer the previous question, yes
It's about time!! How will they transport themselves home from 35th after failing said test??
Are Bosses included ? Or Blue Shirts Only ???
-----
Sgts and above have been getting tested for well over a year now for booze per their contract.
1 sgt in IAD was nailed last April I believe.
Sergeants and Lieutenants have been doing it for almost a year now. One Lt and one sgt got nailed this year.
Anything higher than .04 goes straight to call-back.
Less than .04 goes to counseling.
If you're having a severe hang-over; don't even go to work.

"Bosses" have been taking breathalyzer with their drops for some time now.

Shame on officer "Fuzzy". Puts himself and everyone else at risk.
I'll drink to to that
All supervisors are already tested.......
So I guess I can no longer have a beer and hot dog while watching the game before work? Wtf
FYI 12:40am........supervisors have been since last January!
I have no sympathy for anyone who gets flagged or tripped up in this. They have no one to blame but themselves and I don't want to work with them. Remember Abbate? Remember Callaghan? Everyone who knew either of them said in the comments on this blog they were long-time drunks and "the department" did nothing about it. Well, now the department is attempting to get rid of others like them. I think it's a step in the right direction. A small one, but a step none the less.
Sgts and above have been doing this since Jan of this year. one poor guy in our district has been there four times and he doesn't even drink!!!!!
I'll get flack for this but I can still remember when you could show up for midnight roll call in the deuce back in the 70/80's and be a little toasted from having just left a wedding. Everyone in roll call would be yelling, make "so and so blow the box"! Would the bosses throw you under the bus? No. With an artful roll of the eyes, a wink, smile, or nod, they would put you with someone safe and reliable to baby sit you till things came back in focus. It's a different world today. Stay safe. Let the comments flow. "Yeah, stay safe! The guy next to you would have been a lot safer that night without your drunken ass next to him in the squad car"! Just saying it WAS a different world then and it's a shame you young guns will never get to experience what fun the job was then.
The problem boys and girls rests in you going out on your day off. If you tie one on, it might take more than 24 hours for you to go to 0.00; you might only be at 0.01 or even less, but that is not equal to zero.
What a fucking crazy society we are coming to!

I reallyhope, for your sake, that you do not see this as an attempt to "jam officers up."
Eventhough the contract address the issue of a 0.021 reading, it better be zero, because that is the only thing the department will care about.
If you have any residual alcohol in your system from drinking on your days off, I am willing to bet the department will fuck with you up and done.
And I wonder how many of the white shirts will be called for random testing? I bet the percentage will be far smaller than that of the blue shirts.

Hey genius, the "Bosses" have been doing this for the last year and several have been popped.
Going to work with a hangover just got even more dangerous.

I don't think you get it. This isn't about being drunk. This could be about a five a.m. start time after a New Year's Eve party. Not drunk, fella, but 0.02.
So, if you have a couple of drinks a few hours before work, think about what you're doing. Go to a party or a bar? Have your one or two early in the evening, then stick to soda or coffee the rest of the night.
And, by the way, the original poster is a troll. But, thanks for playing.
Isn't alcohol testing part of the captain's or lieutenant's deal already ? REALLY? IT IS ON THE LIEUTENANTS TEST!

Dam the police changed since I was young on this job. This 2 year wonder probably still thinks he is going to fix all the ills of society.
Haha, reminds me of the old cop who used to go into Leona's on Augusta and ask for red wine in a coffee cup. Hopefully he's retired by now.
18yrs on I think it's a good thing we have enough useless p.o.s we should at least get rid of the ones that can't stay sober for work. I enjoy alcohol just as much as anyone but you should have some self control.
They should start with the Supt. Mc Carthy, he is like a fouled mouthed, drunken sailor at Subic Bay, Philipines during Vietnam!
Jose Rumpeculo
The supervisors have been doing this for a year already and 3 have been stripped. If you blow above .02 you will be stripped.
if you have to worry about alcohol, drug or steroid testing, you need help.
if you think that you don't need help, then just quit now-nobody wants to work with a drunk,, doper or 'roid user
Sgt's have been submitting to a breathalyser for a few years now when they go for the wiz quiz.
Garry are you ready to drop and then blow? He should be the first one that should be tested.
Jersey Shore is on pins and needles!
Isn't alcohol testing part of the captain's or lieutenant's deal already ?

You moron, the bosses already have had to do it since 1 Jan 2011, no wonder why you are still in blue and will remain there forever, where have you been on the medical for the last 11 months nursing that bad back, from falling off the bar stool.
It's fools like you that will get caught up in the net.
For everyone else, if the 1st blow is over .03, you are going to get a hosing, no matter what you blow the next day, most likely being placed into a program. For you folks who only drink at weddings,etc.. Watch your, self,it takes 1 hr for each drink to get out of your system, so those last shots you had at midnight, toasting the new couple, could still be in your system at 0530hrs when you show up for work.
This City should focus on drug and alcohol testing of all Aldermans and their ilk!
I believe the Mayor and Supt. are on Drugs, washing it down with Liquor!
City Hall thinks up the most stupidest shit!

It's about time!! How will they transport themselves home from 35th after failing said test??
12/05/2011 07:46:00 AM
This is a very good point. I think they should create a unit that focuses their time on driving our drunk brothers home from the test so they don't get hurt. That would be a fun day.
How much would you need to drink to get an .04? I don't normally drink but want to know just in case I do. Would that be like 2-3 glasses of wine?
I hope the firemen have this in their "Me Too" clause. Think they need it more than police... just sayin
There was a time om this job when a guy would come to work all fucked up and he would be put into the lockup to sleep it off.
No beefs, no C.R. numbers and no paper of any kind. Bosses had compassion and balls back then.
Mexican Lt. from I.A.D. just got dumped for this, nice guy but was really full of himself. He being a white shirt was allowed to pull the pin and retire. I hope this courtesy will be offered to the blue shirts as well? Ya think?
The lt from IAD got dumped to a district and took a big suspension, THEN he retired. He didn't get away with anything.
It's about time!! How will they transport themselves home from 35th after failing said test??

They can legally drive THEMSELVES home, up to 0.07999.
No tiramisu for dessert cuz it has liquor in it lol

Does that apply to FOP and McGruff?
