Fourteen Years

  • Former Gov. Rod Blagojevich was sentenced to 14 years in prison and fined $20,000 for what U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald famously referred to as a criminal corruption crime spree at the time of Blagojevich’s arrest three years ago.

Patti Blagojevich buried her head in her husband's shoulder and the two embraced. He pulled back to brush tears off her cheek and then rubbed her shoulders.

As he left the courthouse, Blagojevich told reporters “we’re going to keep fighting on through this adversity. . .This is a time to be strong."

Dec 7, 2011, a date which will live in infamy in Illinois politics.

I don't agree with the sentence however. I favor the firing squad.

My question relates to those that encouraged the citizens to vote for this POS when he ran for a second term.

At the time his reelection committee consisted of Madigan, Emil Jones, Emmanuel and Barak HussienObama. They bragged that they met weekly to formulate his second term.

Now they cannot recall their activities and all claim thay had no knowledge he was a crook.

Also does anyone realize that Rezko will not be released until after Obama finished a second term in office. Is it possible they do not want him talking to the media until then!

I'm sorry but I think 14 years is extreme ~ what he did is no different than what Daley or any other scummy politician has done over the years! Look at your other post about the murderer who only served about 4 years and went on to kill again when he got out!

I'd still like to know why the Feds suddenly stopped the investigation and arrested Blogo. Everyone knows that when the Feds investigate they let it go for as long as possible so as to catch as many people as possible. My bet is that they were getting close to Tiny Dancer and Nobama and knew if they let the investigation continue they would have caught those two also. The Feds would have brought down this failed presidency before it ever had a chance to wreck all the havoc and destruction on the American way of life that it has.

Way to go Fitzgerald! You made a real nice speech yesterday about catching corrupt politicians, but yet you let Tiny Dancer and Nobama off the hook not to mention the fact that Daley is still walking around collecting three pensions.

Yes, it's embarrassing to have 2 IL Govs in the clink at the same time.
But, they are there for 2 very different reasons:
Ryan is there because he went too far. He lept going back to the system for more money and he was a bit of a pig. The question is where is all of that money?
Blago was stupid and egotistical. He never figured out that he was not the real Gov - the guys who got him the job (Lil Mike, ShortyShanks, Cullerton and Mell) were the Gov. He never understood that. I wonder if he could replay it, if he would run his administration differently? Nah--too much ego.

I can only say when it comes to public corruption, " where are our county and state prosecutors"? Where is Alveraz and Madigan ? Why don't they hold grand juries to investigte all of this state corruption? The political class grants themselves multiple inflated pensions, reduced property taxes, no utility bills, free tuition at state schools, head of the line at magnet schools, government job after government job, unqualified promotions, inflated salaries at government jobs, insider contr5acts, etc. etc. The list goes on. Lisa Madigan should be investigating state government corruption. But, I think the fact that her office does not is the primary reason her father sponsored her for that office.

If I remember correctly there were a bunch of un-indicted co-conspriators in the original charging pleadings. Don't forget everyone thought Fawell fell on the sword but they turned him after his sentence. That's how the got Ryan, by threatening his Mistress with jail time. His tight little package of a wife accepted those real estate commissions for work she didn't do but as pay offs for political favors. That's money laundering. They're about to Fawell his ass.

Now with Milorad soon to be in prison and his daughter and grandchildren living under his roof, how long before Patty lands a job say at the Committee on Finance or some state agency? There will be some $100,000 plus job coming along for which Patty will miraculously become supremely qualified. Now Patty has to elbow her way in there and get some pension credits so she can take care of "Rudyard Kipling" Blagojevich.

And of course, Patty can easily land a part timer in Mell's Aldermanic Office. Remember, Patty's sister Deborah is now a State Rep. And with Rod going away, the movers and shakers will be more amenable to getting Patty a sweet job.

I am also betting that the Blagojevich marriage doesn't last the whole 14 years prison term. She will likely dump Elvis.

Judge orders Naperville's homeless protester to find work

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-judge-orders-napervilles-homeless-protester-to-find-work-20111208,0,4925397.story

=================

Who's gonna hire this guy. Look at the mug shot and the fact he was arrested.

Some would argue the judges order to be enforcement of slavery. Indentured servitude. Where's the so called freedom. Okay he's charged with d.o. and trespassing. If society doesn't like it then society pays the $70/day to keep him locked up for the time of his sentence that's all.

Systemic failure. The best and the brightest rules leave this man outside the system with no opportunities so the system will die by it's own rules.

NO-one is going to hire this guy after we get done stereotyping all the homeless as stupid, ignorant, smelly diseased, filthy and what ever other negative whether it be true of not to them.

So society is stuck with either a) paying his welfare, his $200 bucks a month in food stamps, $100 cash and a medical card OR we pay the $70/day, $2,100 a month to lock him up!.

One way or the other society is going to pay. Instead of the best and brightest finding a way for these people to contribute to the system we get nothing. All stick and no carrot.

A paltry number of the tapes have been played for the public and Blago got off light in so far as the 360 months to life he was racking up when you tally up the time on each count.

The crap that is on books in this state per indictment doesn't mean shit.

He got off light, given his ego, attempts at influencing the jury pool and crimes commited and the damage it has done to peoples faith that this politically, systemically fucked-up state can rid itself of Kleptocracy.

Heard Blago's apology in the courtroom and unlike Zagel, I didn't buy it.

I concur with the sentiments expressed that Blago will be pardoned by our Dear Reader President Sparklefarts.

For the individual who asked about MF Global. A better question would be-- do any of the pension fund advisors use ( or used) Mf Global for the pension fund's trading account?
I would also ask if any of the other firms that the advisers use have subsidiaries in the UK and use re-hypothecation?-- meaning they take your funds and use them for collateral for their trading. MF Global did that.
If you remember Lehman brothers-- that is what did them in also. Ask a member of the board - I am sure they have no friggin clue.

Blago is a goof, 100% and he did wrong but 14 years is a joke. Having to spend 85% of that behind bars is ridiculous and a waste of our tax dollars.

I just hope that Blago decides that his life is worth more than sitting in a federal penitentiary, for doing less than those who put him there and are still governing have done.

Madigan, Daley, Emmanuel, Jackson, Obama and a host of others were complicit in this deal. If I were Rod I would make it a point to spend the next 70+ days having a daily confession with the US Attorneys Office and the media.

I am no fan of Rod's but this is designed to silence him forever. I would roll the dice and spill my guts. The People knwo that he was a scapegoat of the Illinois Corruption Concubine!

Make it a party and invite all those who partook have a seat with you Milorad!

Not a fan of any politician, but 14 years was very harsh. Especially compared to what violent criminals get. Look at all the offenders out on early release who have killed people in the last few years. Every politician in this state is dirty. Rod was just kicked out of the inner circle so he wasn't protected anymore. What he did wasn't right, but they all do what he did and much worse. I do feel really bad for his kids.

blago definitely has some sort of mental problem, he really can't comprehend that he did anything wrong, he even had his wife involved in his crap and triedcto live a gigantic life style. He still can't seem to get it. Well when those cells or doors slam shut every night and he cries himself to sleep, maybe he will realize that he screwed over
Dick Mell and the democratic party of Chicago and he got spanked.

Remember former City Treasurer Miriam Santos. She pissed Daley off when he wanted to use our pension funds to build low income housing. She told Daley to go fuck himself and the rest is history. Daley and Madigan set Santos up with her having to make personal calls to bankers to raise campaign cash. The Feds were warned up front by these two corrupt assholes and her conversations were recorderd. She did some time in jail. Just shows how "selective" the US Attorney is.

My guess is a deal was made possibly including a pardon at some point in exchange for Blago not talking and his wife (and maybe other family members) staying out of jail.

That is the usual type of deal that is made to silence people going to prison.

It always looks like they have nothing to lose by talking, but that assumes the US attorney is interested in listening. In this case, it would get very uncomfortably close to Obama, and that just won't happen. It probably ends here with a few relatively bit players spending some time in a federal penn, followed by a pardon or commutation for compassionate reasons. It almost worked that way with Ryan, but he pushed it too early. He probably could have gotten out if he had waited another year.

Well, he certainly wasn't much as a police superintendent. Look for
Kansas to go to the "gotta run" offense. . .

so, what you're saying is, that it was deviating from the established politico criminal enterprise's game plan that was what he did wrong, right?

This is probably the most incisive comment on this subject I have seen. The only fly in the ointment would be if he overturns the convidtion on appeal, which is certainly a real possibility. If that happens, and he is as vindictive as most politicians, I think you might hear some singing from him. I do think that the 14 years, based on what kinds of sentences are handed out to violent criminals is way too harsh. I also still think that the only reason that the investigation was shut down early and abruptly is only because it started to look like somebody or other, or maybe several somebodies were close to being identified as being involved. Maybe Daly, maybe Obama or who knows who. I seriously doubt that a US Attorney, even a Republican, wanted to be the guy that would stand the heat for bringing down a Democratic President, or even the Mayor. Rod clearly made the mistak of believing that he had some real power.
