ADS Roberts: I am proud to say I was trained by you in the academy and had a chance to get to know you with the NHL and Sheriff Zaruba. Your loss is heartbreaking to all of us, but you will never be forgotten.

Charlie, thank you for sponsoring all of those promotional study classes. Your tough approach gave me and many of my fellow lieutenant wanna bees the determination to study those orders like we loved them. Many of us wore the bars because of you. I was one of them. RIP.

I would like to thank SCC for making a special posting in my husband's memory. He really didn't know what blogging was :) but he would appreciate all of his fellow police officers, past and present, remembering him and honoring his memory. He truly was a special man who had a great gift of making people feel special. So I thank you all for your kind comments. Charlie will truly be missed by many people, most of all by me.

We crossed paths with A.D.S Roberts some six months ago.

A twinkle in his eyes...

A firm handshake...

A genuine "How are you and how's the old man?" was how he started off the conversation...

We had been out of touch for a while but the conversation although brief, flowed like a fine, very old wheated bourbon.

Very few bosses have ever had Charlie's class, humility and genuine care for his people and people in general... His example was not a bad one to emulate IOHO...

We always say that Policemen are the funnest & funniest soldiers in God's Army.

Heh... The way we figure it, God must have figured it was time to give Charlie his biggest and best promotion ever.

Our condolences, love and prayers to The Roberts Family...

...See ya later Charlie.

We're these strange and peculiar people called Chicago Police Officers...

We're family... Or did ya know that already?

For the rest of you?

Stay safe and take care.

Two taps on the West Side doorbell while doin' da slo' roll...

A class act and consummate professional. Another well respected exempt (like Guthrie) who prematurely retired because of the Brass pettiness.
For Charlie it was J.C.

For the record:

Charlie was the Director of the Sheriff's Police Academy in 1999-2000 I believe. He took over after Lt. Denny Baker retired.

He ran a good tight ship and sent his recruits out to the street well trained and ready to do the job.

Unfortunately, he ran afoul of our First Deputy Chief Malinowski. You see, Jim was always afraid of people below him that were smarter than he was. Charlie was surely that, a very fine smart man, and a great Policeman.

The world is a lesser place with Charlie Roberts gone.

I'll see you on the range, up there, some day; my friend.

--Former Range Officer, CCSPD

Whoever made this comment, I totally agree. I take great comfort everyday that Charlie is with her once again and she is probably cooking up a storm for him. :) She probably told him when he got to her, "It's about time you got here, do you know how long I've been cooking for you?" That is what gets me through the day, that and the wonderful relationship we had together, even though it was for a short time. So thank you very much, whoever said this. It made me smile.
