- In this Intelligence Report: Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, is traditionally one of the biggest shopping days of the year, but this year Illinois residents weren't just looking for deals on TVs and toys.
On Black Friday, guns appear to have been popular gift purchases. According to Illinois State Police records, there was a giant jump in gun owner background checks on Black Friday. And, if all those gift guns are used on Christmas, it may be anything but a silent night.
What an asinine comment to make. Everyone knows the ranges are closed on Christmas.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I grew up out of state before making the disastrous decision to take this job. My father and most of my friends' parents had expensive gun racks crafted to display their most prized hunting rifles, shotguns, handguns etc. If the rationale of the author of this article were true, my neighborhood should have looked like a scene from the fucking Wild Bunch everyday. I don't think my hometown has ever recorded a murder. Of course, my parents cared about me and my upbringing and my community valued honesty and hard work. Putting in my twenty and then moving back home. Fuck this place. (fart noise)

So the last quoted comment about a silent night implies that the people who were getting background checks, after applying for FOIDs, are intent on becoming criminals. Is he on something?
I'm not a cop, but I do know that the vast, vast, vast majority of firearms used criminally in places like MI (where I'm from, and where there is concealed carry) are NOT legally purchased & owned weapons. I also believe that in a state like Illinois, where it is much more difficult to legally own a HANDgun, the rate of legally purchased & owned weapons being used to commit a crime is likely even lower.
I never quite understood when I would hear people talk about a bias in the media, until I came to Chicago. This guy’s job is to report the news, so telling us that there was a spike in background checks on a given day is acceptable, because that is fact.
However, it is NOT acceptable to add his personal bias to it, in this case, implying that all those people getting their backgrounds checked were doing so with the ultimate intent of becoming armed criminals.
The media exists to report the news, not make the news.
yes I am terribly worried about the people who buy guns at with serial numbers from licensed dealers and undergo background checks, these people are what keeps me awake at night.

Dear Chuck for twenty five years I have slept with aloaded handgun near my bed. Only once did I have to grab it to protect myself. It has never gotten mad at me, or gotten drunk and have an argument over something mundane. It has never been high on drugs and tried to shoot me.
I moved to Chicago for my job. And have left my guns with my brother in another state. I was trained by my father to respect them and treat them with care. I went into the military and learned more and have more respect at the power they have.
I enjoy going out with family and friends shooting at proper gun ranges. We have Neve had a accident or " it just went off " incident. I have worked for a time in a gun store, and have helped others be safe and enjoy the sport. In my travels I have had the pleasure to teach police officers.
I have to say what you have said was a reflection of all Chicago media. And why I do not trust you or any media types from this city. In my mind you should run for a political office. Cause you know how to B.S. the citizens like the rest.

I used to try to reason with these f__ers in this way, and gave it up a long time ago.
You could roll the whole Encyclopedia Britannica in there on a hand truck as "evidence" to "prove your point," and the Goudies will dismiss it with a glance, a yawn, and an "I don't believe that."

Actually,all 50 States have concealed carry.Its called the Second Amendment.The State of Illinois chooses through its corrupt politicians to infringe upon those rights.
