Police Assist Fire

  • A Northwest Side Fire Departmenty crew on a run this evening returned to find two men leaving their headquarters with a laptop, a department spokesman said.

Firefighters who had been out of their firehouse, 4911 W. Belmont Ave., on a run returned to find someone burglarizing the building about 9:30 p.m., said Fire Deparment spokesman Sean Flynn.

The firehouse's commanding officer called for police assistance and firefighters were able to hold two men--who had been trying to leave the firehouse, at least one carrying a laptop--until police arrived, according to the Fire Department.

We don't know....there sure is a lot of sharp, heavy equipment lying around a fire house. Brass nozzles, rolls of hoses, extinguishers. Why these two weren't carried out...

I have plenty of friends who are firefighters. There is no rivalry between us and them, except for some friendly jokes. They all think the fire boss who battered PO is a fool and should be punished. Lets put this to rest all ready. We do our job when called and they do theirs when we call them.

Chicago police say a man heaved chunks of concrete at a picture window at the 16th District police station in Jefferson Park about 8:45 p.m. Thursday.

Three officers were injured when they tried to arrest the 38-year-old man, Chicago Police News Affairs Hector Alfaro said.

Police said the man entered the lobby and said "If the government wrecked my place then I will wreck yours" before removing the concrete from under his jacket and throwing it at a window.

The man then hit one of the officers three times in the face, police said, and flailed his arms while trying to resist arrest.

OT, I am just as sick of this department as the next p.o. This department is clearly not going in the direction that will benefit or better us. I can live with current contract, incentives, salary and even raggedy residency restriction. Now, they want to take incentives away while forcing us to live in this anti-police detroit-like ghetto. One could get so much more bang-for-their-buck elsewhere(lot size, better schools, lower taxes, etc.) I would encourage others to test at other departments at least out of crook county unless already invested too much in this department. Which brings me to my next question: could anyone tell me how my pension would carry over to another department in Illinois or out of Illinois? I have been hearing conflicting outcomes. Could anyone with more experience or knowledge pass along some useful information to me or point me in the right direction? Thanks

OFF TOPIC: Any truth to the story about yet another mental going off in a police lobby? (016) tried bashing shit up with chunks of concrete, fought officers, etc, etc?? Watch for the copycats folks. Molotov cocktails and automatic weapons to surely follow. People are crazier than theyve ever been, desperate and the holidays bring out the worst in looney cases. Yet the city will simply ignore the problem saying theres no money to fix it, yet theyll throw millions at pet projects to keep their cronies flush with cash.

SCC. Sorry very off topic. How obsurd is this? The detectives in Area 3 were instructed to remove all documents, equipment, and personal items from any file cabinet on the floor. All file cabinets are to be removed to make room make for the influx of detectives from area 4 and 5!

No file cabinets. Just where are detectives supposed to store thier on going cases, at home, in their garages? ( Sorry sir, I'll have to look that info up for you, please give me a hour to drive home to my house and get the file.)

Perhaps since we are now a "paperless" department thanks to Huberman, they dont need file cabinets.

CPD isn't the only ERPS where evidence is walking away!

The only difference is that when this shit happens in the burbs it makes the news and isn't buried like in Chicago.

Prosecutor: Surveillance footage no help in solving case of heroin missing from evidence locker

Before three kilos of heroin were swiped from a Will County sheriff’s outdoor evidence storage container in October, someone parked a “food delivery truck” so it blocked a lone surveillance camera’s view of the container, a prosecutor said in court today.

The truck was parked there from the early evening until the next morning, assistant state’s attorney Michael Knick told a judge this morning, not specifying the date. Investigators who reviewed about 168 hours of surveillance video believe the drugs were stolen during that time, he said. The theft was discovered on Oct. 14.

The heroin is tied to a drug case against Jose Zamago-Pena, accused of transporting drugs for a Mexican cartel using a semi with California plates.
Zamago-Pena listened to a Spanish translator as Knick dropped his objection to releasing the surveillance footage to April Simmons, his public defender, during a hearing today. Judge Edward Burmila said he would order that the footage can only be viewed by Simmons and her investigator.

At the time the heroin was stolen, there were three video cameras at the Laraway Road facility, prosecutors said in a court filing. The drugs were stolen from “locker ten” while, police have said, the other containers were left untouched.

Burmila has not yet ruled on whether the drug case can proceed without the stolen drugs. Knick said in court Friday that the case can survive, in part because the heroin had already been weighed and tested at a state crime lab. Legal experts previously told the Tribune that the case would be in trouble without the stolen narcotics.

The investigation into the stolen drugs is now being handled by Illinois State police. The Tribune has previously reported that the daughter of Sheriff Paul Kaupas, an evidence coordinator, was the one who moved the heroin into the container in April. Kaupas has said she had nothing to do with the theft.

Evidence like heroin was supposed to be kept in a secured area inside the Laraway Road substation, police have said.

Your pension will carry over as long as you work for another police agency in the state of Illinois. Your pension will not carry over if you go to another state. If you have less than 10 years on the job then in that case all of your pension money you put in would be refunded back to you. Go to our pension fund's website (Police Benefit and Annuity Fund) and read through the material. Or you can call them and ask your questions.
