The “Hog” says he wouldn’t squeal — and he got indicted because of it.
Cook County Commissioner William Beavers, an old-school Chicago politician who likes to call himself “The Hog With the Big Nuts,” has been indicted on federal tax charges.
The feds allege he failed to pay taxes on $225,000 from his campaign accounts and used it for personal expenses including gambling and boosting his city pension.
A federal grand jury found he illegally converted more than $225,000 in campaign funds into income and failed to pay taxes on it between 2006 and 2008, prosecutors said.
But Beavers, 77, said they only indicted him because he refused to wear a wire on fellow Commissioner John Daley, the former mayor’s brother.
“They tried to get to me to become a stool pigeon and I wouldn’t become a stool pigeon,” Beavers said Thursday, telling the Sun-Times he hadn’t been told of the indictment. “They wanted me to wear a wire on John Daley. S---.”
Now that John Daley wire....there's something that deserves a bit more exploration.

Hi, alderman beavers here. The feds wanted this squirrel to wear a wire on his big nuts but I put my little foot down, right on my nuts, and now I'm the bad guy.
So "Big Hawg Balls" finally got his tit caught in the federal wringer. He should have been behind bars a generation ago. Same for Richard II.
I remain in possession of a proffer for a former CPD "lieutenant", one Robert PURTILL and a redacted copy of an FBI 302 in which PURTILL confessed to S/A Daniel Berger, FBI-Chicago, that he bribed Beavers, then the 7th Ward Alderman and Chairman of the Committee on Police and Fire, to be promoted to lieutenant in the first wave (#98) of EXAMSCAM. While Purtill's scores on the two legitimate written portions of the process were abysmally poor, he scored high on the rigged "oral boards" (i.e., "notify the watch commander", etc.) which were weighted at an incredible 80% after the fact. Purtill, who entered a guilty plea to tax evasion in the "Operation Phocus" liquor license shakedowns even admits that he also paid for his chevrons. Then U.S. Attorney Anton R. Valukas and "da Mare" ignored our incontrovertible "smoking gun" evidence. Cover-up extraordinaire.

Watch this POS get his daughter in to finish his term like he did in the City Council. There, Jesse Jr's bride, Sandy Jackson, beat her out in the next election.
The County Board is more corrupt than the City Council, though. Think Bobbie Steele handing her Cook County Commissioners' seat to her Park District clerk son, Robert, so she could retire at the Board PRESIDENT'S pension rate.
As much as I hate Beavers I find some truth in what he says. The Feds approached him with the evidence against him and tried making a deal with him. Unfortunately the deal probably wasn't sweet enough and he's taking his chances with a jury.

He will go to jail. No doubt about it. It will cost him a lot of money for his attorney, no doubt about that. Whether he ever cooperates to get a sentence reduction, well, that is a good question. In the 87 lieutenants test, a few of the black sergeants were openly bragging that they would be within the top 15 on the list and they were. Rumors were strong that Beavers was fixing the exam. No one cared then and they probably do not care now.Northside had it right. No one listened to him at the time

Answer: People who aren't spending their own money. I'm sure that he gets the best rates for the taxpayers who are paying for bullshit insurance on the big goings-on in Chicago...like the G8/NATO summits. That's where Rahm will get the money to pay the huge losses.

Based on scores on the first two written legitimate components, some deserved the promotion and some did not. One (on videotaped 10%) superfluously replied "notify the watch commander" to all eight items of which four were rigged.
